The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The Nico songs in 'The Royal Tenenbaums', esp the one that plays when Gwyneth gets off the bus. Lots of other songs from the movie, the Dylan instrumental was a cool thing to pick (esp since it's from a cowboy movie, appropriate for Eli)

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 30 January 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

is that nico song these days? those songs are lovely. written for her by a 16 year old jackson brown when they were lovers.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 30 January 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Gwyneth makes a pretty damn good Nico, huh? Suprising, given how boring most of her roles are. Somewhere there's a Nico biopic being written with her name on it.

I dunno what my favourite song is at the moment, probably something by Can.

Minty (Minty), Friday, 30 January 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i would never sully Nico's memory with letting gwyneth play her. i reckon wossname from Run Lola Run would do a better job. franka potente or whatever.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 30 January 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

who played her in that doors movie?

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 30 January 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I'm 90% sure it is, those are about the only Jackson Browne songs I can stand (well I love them really, maybe not as much as the Velvets stuff on the album), except that "Somebody's Baby" song from um Fast Times at Ridgemont High? That's a good movie too. Anton that's a bitchin idea

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 30 January 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

That girl from Run Lola Run has the wrong colour hair to play Nico!
As of right now my favourite song's probably "Angelina" by Ray Charles.

Minty (Minty), Sunday, 1 February 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

mine is WXJL tonight by human league

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 1 February 2004 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Sunday, 1 February 2004 06:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the jackson browne song they used in taxi driver, though i doubt i'd like it if i hadn't heard it first in the movie.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Sunday, 1 February 2004 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm fucking addicted to "more than this" by roxy music. on some other thread i claimed avalon was better, man thats so wrong!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 9 May 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

george is gonna give you a lecture di..

picked up the undertones 3rd album at pennys on saturday.. some good shit, especially the more mellow numbers at the start of side b.. that feargel sharkey had a weird lil voice alright

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i already heard some of george's views on roxy music when i was in chch!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

..as expected. apparently the reports on the george vs. dave imlay vintage cuts show (i missed it, i was at soccer..) were that they sounded like a duo of crotchety old bastards..

its my turn next sunday, i'm thinking im gonna do an old-skool hip-hop show. any song suggestions?

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes!

Minty (Minty), Monday, 10 May 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, Kool Moe Dee - How Ya Like Me Now? Grandmaster Flash - The Message, Slick Rick - Children's Story. Do Public Enemy count as oldskool?

Salt n' Pepa, everyone likes them

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 10 May 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

eric b. and rakim is a given (prolly paid in full and lyrics of fury), baby got back is a serious no-no (way too frat-boy these days). gonna knock together some of the usuals as mentioned (the full 11 minute 12" version of rappers delight..), some public enemy, afrika, kurtis blow, kool herc, run d.m.c, boogie down productions, ultramagnetic mcs, flash and the furious five, etc..

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 10 May 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't forget Double J and Twice the T!

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 10 May 2004 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

That Roxy Music conversation was interesting, how's the book going? My favourite track is PRINCE, "I Would Die 4 U".

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 10 May 2004 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

oh eno just left the band, but now i have to put the book aside and do some feckin research. :-(

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually think it would be pretty hard to find that double j track these days, though i have it on video somewhere.. i do recall seeing a 7" copy once though..

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

funk 4 plus 1 - "that's the joint", l'trimm - "sexy"/"we like the cars that go boom", jj fad - "supersonic", roxanne shante - "roxanne's revenge". if you dare, play mc tunes vs 808 state's "tunes splits the atom".

current fave = sugar pie desanto's "go go power".

etc, Monday, 10 May 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

nice pics.. i dunno if ive even heard the full clip of 'thats the joint', i could play roxannes revenge.. or i could play 'roxanne roxanne'.. or both maybe

chris andrews (fraew), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no no Eno! They did okay w/out him I guess. So you're liking Avalon okay? My favorite song is now Rolling Stones, "Under My Thumb".

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

meh. post roxy Eno >>>>>>>> Roxy music

chris andrews (fraew), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Once I felt this way but I saw some light and it was the light of Roxy's post Eno records and it was FUCKING BRIGHT

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't had a chance to listen to the record in its entirety yet, livvie. i wish i had more time to actually listen to the records i buy :-(

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Well you could equally say he did okay w/out them, sure. But make that equation more like "Post-Roxy Eno > Roxy Music" and I'd be inclined to agree, although STRANDED and FLESH AND BLOOD are two of my favourite albums in the world and Avalon is very very nice so ONLY JUST.
