Suicide Rehearsal Tapes, loud

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 1 October 2004 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been listening to so much NZ music tonight and most of it was soooooo sad. Weeping, kind of thing. I was making a comp for someone who didn't seem to know any/much music from here. TKP/alastair/demarnia's trace/verlaines "dirge" and "hanging by strands"/jay clarkson's wheeling "hold the skeletons, hold them fast....licking scratches, licking wounds" /pumice - pumiceraft/cakekitchen - airships/g jefferies - all the colours run dry/ etcetera, oh aren't we dark and lonely over here with the birds

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 1 October 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

what's that daryl hall "sacred songs" like livvie? it's hard to find out without getting buried in mr fripps fans

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 1 October 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

not that I dislike robert fripp

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 1 October 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone here like (late) swans
it's good sacred pagan music. Worshipful/wallowing mud/sun
and alastair g also always of course makes me feel like a living and dying being

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 1 October 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I'm a fan of "Mr Fripp" for sure, sorry. The record is kinda ODD; it has some really really great songs but I don't think it goes together very well as an ALBUM, no continuity or overriding MOOD or anything. SOME PEOPLE, of course, fervently disagree with that. Also I dunno is continuity even really that important? Otherwise makes me uneasy, I think.

Livvie (Livvie), Friday, 1 October 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I like that record

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 1 October 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, slip of the fingers.. i pronounce it correctly.. unlike some people. fucking good album, he has a lot of humour and a pretty strong voice, and the beats are top notch, the album has a real driving, gaining moment, too..

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I totally don't get that album. I've only heard it a couple of times but I didn't like anything about it.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

not even 'jesus walks'?, sure the topic is totally heavy handed (and even goofy), but the actual song composition is top notch

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah I do quite like "jesus walks"; that's mostly why I sought out the whole album (and because Minty likes it so much).

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

some semi-buried/fucked-with faux-splice* stuff I made that makes me feel heavy and sad.
*as in, I didn't physically splice anything, not as in how some thing by Cornelius cld be called faux-splicing because he plays all the music himself first before chopping them together.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't mind physically wresslin with some magnetic threads though!
Anyone here ever listen to Philip Jeck?

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

etc, Sunday, 10 October 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

rocket from the tombs - 30 seconds over tokyo (from 'the day the earth meet' double lp.. ).. gotta be one of my fav recordings of all time

Yeah, all the Arthur Russell I've got has been from the net.

hell no Minty Devi is a top tier Hindu deity. She seems awesome.
SCGs are "ethno" plunderers. And I do mean PLUNDERers, in a bad way (ethically/attitudinally). Torch of the Mystics is one of my favourite albums.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

As opposed to plunderers in the jocular yo-ho-ho-and-a-bottle-of-rum sense?

I'm listening to Intellectual Property. Camilla just told me that Shayne Carter used to be in the Boredoms, jeez he got around didn't he?

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

What should the SCGs do tho seeing as they make no money anyway? Luna "The Days of Our Nights"

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean I'm sure yr right, I don't know too much about them. Do you mean like those Sublime Frequencies things or in general?

Enoch Light "4-CHANNEL DYNAMITE-EXPLOSIVE!"

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry I can't xplain much now Andrew, I shouldn't be up, I have full time work plus exam on Thurs plus major project plus an art exhib coming up just for starters and am already nonstop delerious but the SCG interview in the Wire showed an attitude coming through on their parts that made me really uncomfortable. Not so much about money (not sure though) but more about credit. They take a lot of recordings of "weird far out" people from other countries and don't credit them or seem to think they should be credited...I don't know I can't remember too well.
I got a gatefold dbl Enoch Light (best of) for $2 this week. I like his "light my fire".

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

etc, Wednesday, 10 November 2004 11:57 (twenty years ago)

sweet.

got that controller.controller ep.. not bad.. the vocals are fairly romeo void, or maybe a slick version of the banshees..

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 20:50 (twenty years ago)

oh that controller.controller ep is pretty sweet (tho I wish it was slightly more DJ-friendly) - "disco blackout" is teh sex.

omni trio - "renegade snares (foul play vip remix)" (best track of the 90s? fuck I wish I'd voted on that 90s poll, I would've made a difference in the top 10!)

etc, Thursday, 11 November 2004 09:27 (twenty years ago)

There was a best track of the 90s poll? Did "California Love" win? Waitaminute... is this an ILM thing?

In any case at the moment I'm listening to a cd I made for the radio on Saturday. At the moment it's up to this Maceo & The Macks track "Cross the Tracks"

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 11 November 2004 10:42 (twenty years ago)

I voted! What did I vote for? Who knows!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:30 (twenty years ago)

little richard - 18 greatest hits. i don't think i've listened to this all the way through in at least 6 years. it sounded pretty fucking awesome in the car today, but then i've discovered that nearly everything sounds better when you're driving. i even liked a LED ZEPPELIN song i heard in the car today, for god's sake.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 14 January 2005 06:30 (twenty years ago)

sad thing about listening to a little richard hits compilation - there's only 18 of them, and you sort of wish it would just go on forever, because everything else sounds sorta tame afterward.

Hey Liz, reason I haven't got back to you with my address is I still don't have one! Argh.
Yeah that's fricken great news about the Ghost Club. The blindness thing was a mix-up at a London optometrists, but means he's legally blind in the UK.

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

legally blind in the UK

he was hopped out and aggressive (i think his son said something about mescaline..), ended up smashing both his guitars after a set of mostly unmusical noise. it was ok, but not really what i was anticipating, especially since he was backed up by alastair galbraith and brian crook
