nice cdsingles, di! any cool remixes/b-sides?

haven't checked out the remixes and b sides yet BUTTTTTT nina skye and christina milian have the videoclips on the singles, man i dig that feature and its especially imperative for christina milian when she's writhing around in that black paint like a slutbag.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 2 January 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

oh, I love that about cd-singles! I can't remember how many times me & my flatmates have watched the "cry me a river" while drunk.

I remember there being a really good remix of "move ya body" w/vybz cartel on it - if it's on, it's pretty U&K. haven't seen that christina milian video! i'll try & rectify this. what do you think of the new kylie/scissor sisters song?

etc, Monday, 3 January 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

It's gay

Deluxe (Damian), Saturday, 5 February 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Hey Damian! We decided that your writing style and reluctance to post on IRE meant the mystery TR fan was not you, but I guess we were wrong.

Livvie (Livvie), Saturday, 5 February 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

the benefits of living near penny lane:

alpaca brothers - legless ep
stephen - stephen ep
the clean - live dead clean ep
the rip - timeless port ep

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 7 February 2005 06:41 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah I am the mystery TR fan. I was laughing at myself instead of saying "Todd is Godd" or some such thing, because he isn't Godd or God, but verily he does rock, often, even if I'm always one hit of acid short of appreciating some of his stuff.

Deluxe (Damian), Monday, 7 February 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

I was kinda hoping there was some other big Todd fan hanging around Ak somewhere. Hey Chris which Rip is that, "Stormed Port" or "Timeless Piece"? Or is it somehow both?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 7 February 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Real Groovy Ak charge a reasonable $50 for "Live Dead Clean", btw

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 7 February 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

oh sorry, stormed port... i've got timeless piece too though.
i got each of them for $15 a pop. live dead clean isn't anything to write home about (especially if you have the anthology / compilation etc...) but the alpaca's ep is great

chris andrews (fraew), Friday, 18 February 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

Elisabeth At Work, Sunday, 20 February 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Todd Rundgren - Runt
Big Star - The Best Of

I know the idea of a Big Star compilation is weird, especially a compilation of songs off their first two albums which are of course on one CD anyway, but if I think of it as someone's dream fantasy super Big Star album then it makes sense.

Deluxe (Damian), Monday, 21 February 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

is "Transistor Madness/Future D.J." off the Dr Buzzard as good as the title? that UR's supposed to be a goodie w/some sort've morse code spelling out the producer's name or something, which if true isn't really that hard a code to break, honestly.

etc, Wednesday, 11 May 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

The morse isn't v long, it is a WONDERFUL record. I don't remember that song yet, the whole thing's great tho, 40s/50s sorta big band sounds w/disco 4/4 kickdrums, really pretty.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 12 May 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

ditto on the SCOOOOOOOOORE, ducking.

gonna have a harder look at the $5 7"'s @ RG - I want to get some stuff on thursday. anyone know if scritti politti's songs to remember floats around on vinyl much? RG's got the "asylums in jerusalem"/"jacques derrida" 7", but it's a different mix of the latter which lacks the rap(-acious), blah.

hey anyone, how much trade do RG give on CDs? like, y'know, canonical indie/punk/rock/blah blah blah (eg nice shiny reissue of Low, &c)? also, is there anything I should know about picturediscs before buying them? they're fine for DJing & shit, right?

etc, Saturday, 16 July 2005 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

& what're people's experiences of ordering stuff through Play/RG/&c like (y'know, stuff they list on their website)?

hey andrew if yr after a.r. kane's "pop"/"what's all this then?" 7", it's in the singles bin in the little island. "what's all this then?" sounds different to the i version, tho I haven't heard that since my CD got scratched . . . two years ago?

!!! - me and giuliani down by the schoolyard (a true story)

etc, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

The David Thomas Lp's v good, a sad/sweet/funny songcyclish thing about a monster and Lake Eerie (maybe) or something lyrically, v spare and improvised off simple themes musically. I really like it but the other DT recs I have ('Sound of the Sand'/'Variations on a Theme') are maybe better ones to get first as far as his solo stuff goes. I love them all, as much as PUbu easy. I guess. I don't know. Etc nah I don't really want that single, I saw the 12" around for ages but never bothered. Picturediscs have a v bad reputation as far as sound goes, I've never heard one tho. I got Autechre's "Chiastic Slide" today.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 21 July 2005 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

I got "Compass Point" by Desmond Dekker a while ago, it's beautiful

mick elbo gave me an mp3 disc crammed full of rare, unreleased and unavailable stuff he's been involved with last night, like the unreleased minus 2 album, the drowning is easy ep etc... some pretty great stuff on there

btw the renderers were incredible last night

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 21 July 2005 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

when's their new album gonna come out? they've been promising it for a while! also, chris, if you check this today - d'ya reckon the danse macabre reunion gig is worth going to? don't think I can afford it, but . . .

from play:
was (not was) - was (not was)

etc, Thursday, 21 July 2005 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

the album is supposed to be finished, but brian and maryrose are both perfectionists... i think they rerecorded a bunch of the parts when they got new band members. they played some of the songs from it last night - its maryrose fronting all their songs, but still has great brian-led guitar bits (much like dream of the sea) its gonna be called 'ghosts of our vegas nights' i think (which is also the name of one of the songs).

danse macabre is a hard call - if they shape themselves like YFC did and focus on the post-punk elements it could totally rule, but then danse macabre DID evolve into a shitty pop act in their later years, and thats not a good sign when your talking reunion shows...

chris andrews (fraew), Friday, 22 July 2005 02:49 (nineteen years ago)

oh btw - john bellows (original bassist) is back, and he was excellent last night - he's really fit into the later era sound nicely.

chris andrews (fraew), Friday, 22 July 2005 02:50 (nineteen years ago)

etc, Friday, 29 July 2005 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

they were pretty good at the chch show, not quite as good as YFC, but 'caroline's dream' and 'go slow' kicked my ass...

chris andrews (fraew), Friday, 29 July 2005 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

No they blow as in their gothy songs are all bad, like everything I've heard w/C. Matthews's name on it (thanks for yr glorious contributions to "5 by 4" Chris! "Flipper Go Home"! Killer shit!). etc, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

That was me, it was at RG. So far I don't like it much at all, if things don't improve you can have it. It's the vocals. They're horrible. I'll prob start loving it now, tho. I got Merle Haggard and the Strangers "Pride In What I Am" and "Earl Hines Plays Fats Waller" today.

is that a boot (the stooges album)? any good?

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 22 August 2005 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

Nah it's a German press (on Line, I thought they were Italian cos (I guess) of Base Records who're pretty similar (the other Line pressing I have is of the Fall's "Room to Live", Base pretty much do Rough Trade, pretty close)) of a Bomp! thing. It's got the "I'm Sick of You" single (title track, 'Scene of the Crime', 'Tight Pants' (alt version of 'Shake Appeal'), "Gimme Some Skin", "I Got a Right", "Jesus Loves the Stooges", and diff mixes/takes of "Johanna" and "Consolation Prizes" off "Kill City". That was long. It's extremely good. Also it's a pretty fantastic roundup of the stuff that isn't on "KC" w/out having to buy 3 or 4 records complete w/various versions of the same songs. That was long.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

chris andrews (fraew), Sunday, 28 August 2005 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

btw - the beefheart remasters are ok, but the mix comes out a little uneven (i think they've tried to push the treble and bass too far...)
