So many people on this board posted comments on Last FM, where they put my name up there and started and account for me. Not one person there commented on my music. It was all mockery. All of them regulars from this board. This board is Satanic and demonic. You are people involved with the occult. Jon L has ruined my music and puts it on the radio with noises that he added to it.
He never puts my music on the radio without ruining it first. He is a regular here. He is also very much into the occult.
I know because he told me that he goes to occultist festivals.

I am not sure about everyone, but I do know that corporate people are saturating every corner of the internet. They are bent on having total control of people's thoughts and opinions. They will go so far to slander people and defame people on the cover of a fairly large newspaper. They pay people to ruin people's reputation. It is about power. Genesis is commercial and much less talented than Gentle Giant and the band Renaissance blows Genesis away on every level.

Renaissance is way above Genesis. I am on the money about Renaissance. That band is soooo high class, so awesome. They blow Genesis away on every level. This is very commercial to my ears, though she was better than what they have now in the commercial world.

It is called Sylan's Song. I do not like barracuda. I am not interested in commercial music very much at all....especially Americana.
Iva Bittova and other people all over the world are more interesting than Joni Mitchell and other commercial acts.

joni is actually pretty non-commercial i'd say. especially in the later half of her career, and if you read interviews w/ her, i think she feels very alienated from the broader musical community.

Joni Mitchell is very Americana. I am not into folksy music from the Americana world. I like Iva Bittova better or people singing in Japanese from Japan.

I listen to alot of middle eastern music. I like Turkish music. I don't care about Americana very much. I also love Medieval music.

I really like American folk music. Sometimes I think it's the music that I love most. I think that's bc it's what my parents played for me growing up, so when I listen to it, it resonates deeply with me on a family level.

I like the song Help Me from Joni. She had alot of good musicians who played on that song to make it sound as good as it did.

I love turkish music. I love asian music. I do not like Americana music .
I think it is hicky, and mostly redneck and for people who know nothing about music. I don't want to sound offensive...but American music is on the lowest level of any country culturally.

I am a big fan of that band Renaissance for songs that are less canned sounding. I am not a big fan of contrived or canned sounding music. Midas Man and Can you hear Me from the band Renaissance are very mystic and haunting and they sound very NON-commercial.

I like that mystic and that middle ages sound sounds cool to me.

this Italian band is a great Progressive band.

I have always LOVED medieval music of every kind.
I love the music of the middle ages. I love that mystic sound of the band Renaissance. Songs like Midas Man, Can you hear Me ...Black Flame, Can you Understand.

The album Novella is the one I love and turn of the cards.

Prologue was an awesome song.

They are extremely under-rated. Alot of people are ANTI-refinement. I love classy and elegant people like this and Aprhodite's child...
The more refined and elegant, the more I love it.
This doesn't mean that the music has to be void of soul and passion.

Only grungy, unrefined and grimy people would insult a band like Renaissance and say that they are beneath commercial acts like Genesis, Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.
That band is as good as it gets in many respects. Their style is unique.

That industry is very anti-refinement. If they have any classical music it is always rehash.

Anyway, I love the middle ages. I love their clothing, and alot of their styles.

This is why I like Jethro Tull, Led Zepplin , Gentle Giant and I love some of Banco Del Mutuso Soccorso because they have some influence from the middle ages....but they do it well.

It is just my interests.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with drawing pictures of women with long gowns and clothing from the middle ages. I was 7 years old, but that is what I thought was cool.
I also liked some modern clothing.

I have saved some of their music as my favorites on youtube and I love that haunting sound of the MIDDLE AGES. This has been my taste since I was a little kid. My parents played tons of classical music in the home and my mother played advanced classical music on the highest level morning noon and night when I was a toddler. I love CLASSICAL MUSIC.

I was a big fan of Renaissance when I was 13-14 but then my prog guru told me they had SOLD OUT with the Camera Camera album so I denounced them, I was a big fan of denouncing bands for SELLING OUT at that time.

They had to sell out just like Gentle Giant. They ruin people because they tell them that what they are doing is not sellable and put pressure on them to make money.

Since their interest is only in making money, they are interest in selling albums, and think that dumbing down music is the way to do it.

If that is what they think, they must not feel that the general public has any taste or intelligence.

I am not sure about that. Taylor Swift is very elegant, and she is not very musically inclined, but she does know about clothing.

Some people may want to be on a higher level in their thinking but they are being brought down by a few grungy people who wish to run our world.

There are some people who don't follow the crowd into grunginess. One of the best things in the world is elegant, refinement and class.
I think that it is a virtue. My mother played classical music all day long when I was first born and all through my childhood. Elegance was part of the scenery. Marisa, I have been listening to the Virgo Noir songs for some time, and they really stick with me. They genuinely intrigue me and pull me in.

'Gyokuro', to me, inevitably conjures both Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush - two artists I do immensely love, as opposed to you - and it's a better song for it, to me. I believe this one is a demo? Don't change it by "properly recording it", for it's perfect I think.

I love the sultry Arab-like sway of 'Psyche', and the Spanishness of 'Kombucha Wine'. If this is what you mean by being inspired by and wanting to implement foreign elements in your music, I say you are doing a great job.

I do feel that your singing adds to the music tremendously, which is why I favor the songs with vocals over the instrumentals. If there is one on the way, I for one am anticipating your full-length.

Kate Bush doesn't do music like this at all. This is a blues, progressive, fusion song and it is jazz and classically influenced, which is nothing like Kate Bush or Joni Mitchell. Also the end of the song is Rhythm and Blues ....Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell do not write music like this and their style is completely different.

marisa, I think maybe you just haven't been exposed to it but the second half of joni mitchell's career is heavily influenced by jazz, you should especially check out her album Mingus which was a collaboration w/ Charles Mingus.

Meredith Monk said something similar about her own work -- she claimed that it was its own tradition and was inspired by no one else. Of course, marisa, you say that you are inspired by non-American artists so it's not quite the same. I always felt like Monk maybe couldn't quite see her own influences -- or at least she didn't realize that her music was arising in a time of great vocal experimentation so even if it didn't perfectly correlate to another particular artist she was very much of her time. Sometimes it's hard to see ourselves clearly, I think, because we already know ourselves so well.

Because someone is jazz influenced doesn't mean that they have improv skills...Improvisational skills is what better musicians are able to deal with....and a real jazz musician or even a good musician has improv skills

People who can't improvise are usually more stiff in their approach to writing and approach to music in general..but that is my opinion...not all music has to be improvised...but actual magic happens when people have heavy improv skills.

Guys, i feel like we're making a kind of footnote to the history of popular music in this thread RIGHT NOW

Anyway, I trained in the area of opera for many years. I need to record my voice in this genre. I studied advanced level bel canto singing...ADVANCED singing..not just pop singing...but never had money to record my voice in a pro studio...so when people compare me to pop singers it makes me very uncomfortable.

This flamenco guitarist heard me LIVE in my house and I was not singing pop songs..it was a spanish sounding song that I wrote...nothing like what you have heard..He compared me to Lisa Gerrard. I took it as a compliment. He has been on the radio and he is a top notch professiona guitarist and composer.
These are the people that I think should critique me.

People who hear me live are the best people....because my recordings right now are extremely limited.

This is why you need to stop bothering me on the net.

You are not seeing me live or hearing me live.

You are also not speaking to me live...and I sick of the comments on the net from people who don't know me at all..

Sure, I am not equipped to 'critique' music, for me it comes down to 'interesting' or 'not interesting'.

That piece I wrote was in response to a whole shitstorm that was going down at the time on the web regarding your point of view, and I felt it was totally unfair, that it raised a great many interesting points about how music production is funded, and how musicians can carry on in the face of reducing 'revenues'.

in short, you either love what you do, or you shouldn't do it.

I what I do in the privacy of my own home, I will never give up music.

I don't have time to read all the posts in this thread but I understand some things about the music you like from a few posts that I've read.

I believe that people all have different "baselines" that contribute towards liking one band over another. Vocals are very important to me but when I list my favorite musicians I am often in a minority or outlier when compared to the favorite musicians most commonly talked about on ilx. I figure that my "baseline" is just a heck of a lot different than that of your typical ilxor (not that I don't share some common favorites).
