any pissing that goes on in my kitchenette with an integrated sink-urinal is perfectly legit - I used a receptacle and poured it down the drainer. Then gave it a thorough wipe with my sleeve afterwards.

during one emergency I used a pyrex jug that was sat by open window on a freezing night, it must have been very cold because my urine shattered it.

when your only other options are either pissing yourself or risking exposing yourself to minors pissing in the garden, then that sink will get it every time. I suppose you could start a collection of piss bottles, this is something I have seen irl before in a workplace. It was in a bookies where you had to shut the shop down and go upstairs and use the toilet in the barbers if you wanted a piss. I'm not making this up. The regular manager there had bottles of piss under the counter. His piss bottle cycle had got so out of control he kept forgetting he'd left some under the counter.

we have a two bath place. the toilet is broken in the bath adjacent to the bedroom. when my partner is using the bath with working toilet and i really gotta go, the other bathroom sink gets it. and uhh now i've started using the sink when i'm home alone and lying in bed and i don't want to walk across the place.

I've pissed in the back yard a couple of times, but not in the sink (yet).

not an option for me, there are windows that can sight me everywhere no matter how tall I grow my hedges because its a hill and also thoughtless architects. Some post-war British social housing estates were seemingly planned with absolute contempt for the people who were going to live in them. If I can get in my bathroom and open the window I'm practically eye to eye level with my neighbour if their back door is open and they are stood there having a smoke. If I go for a piss out back there are at least half a dozen upstairs windows of which I'd be in full view of. I'd rather be a house savage than someone who frequently gets spotted pissing outside by neighbour's kids.

shower, bath, river/sea, against a tree, but never in a sink; that's just gross. And usually impossible since most sinks are too high.

not sure how peeing in the shower can be gender-affirming, since this has never been gender-specific to begin with

using a receptacle and pouring it down the sink is how to do it - pissing directly into a sink is just outright savagery! Although you should avoid pissing into very cold pyrex receptacles, that's a life piss lesson I learned.

from the murky depths of my memory stirs a story i read long ago, where a woman visits her boyfriend's hoity-toity family home for the first time and needs to pee but is too embarrassed to say the word "bathroom" and instead asks where the powder room is, and the boyfriend's mother shows her to the powder room which is apparently a real room that rich people have for powdering in, and there is no toilet but there is a sink, and iirc the story ends with the woman trying to pee in this sink and accidentally breaking it off the wall? i guess the moral of the story is to always look your prospective mother-in-law in the eye and loudly announce when you need to take a piss.

what followed the axes was just the beginning (cat), Sunday, 11 February 2024 11:59 (one year ago)

Do we have a distinction here between sink types? Kitchen sink, nope, it has dishes in it. Bathroom sink, why? (There's a toilet and shower/bath right nearby.)

Mud room / laundry room sink (if you have one), that might be a bit more, um, situational for some folks.

Like, personally, I grew up in a house with one bathroom and five to ten people. I would rather just go outside, but can understand expediency.

There is also the phenomenon of the Pittsburgh Toilet

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_toilet

Virginia Wolfman (Ye Mad Puffin), Sunday, 11 February 2024 12:21 (one year ago)

In many non-North American homes the toilet has its own little room leaving “the bathroom”, where you clean yourself, free of excrement and urine, which is a pretty good deal for everyone except when the toilet is located far away, or on another floor, or attached to someone else’s bedroom, you see where i’m going with this

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 11 February 2024 12:27 (one year ago)

let me just spell it out - in my in-laws’ place for many years there was only one actual toilet, it was downstairs, and so if you wanted to use the toilet in the middle of the night you had to walk downstairs in the dark. but the kicker was that their staircase was made of this like metal grid material that absolutely murdered bare feet. so….

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 11 February 2024 12:29 (one year ago)

the house I was born in and very briefly lived in for the first few months of my life had no bathroom and had an outside toilet. My mum says you could hear everything through the walls and the bloke next door would come home drunk from the pub and would be singing while he was pissing in a bucket.

not sure how peeing in the shower can be gender-affirming, since this has never been gender-specific to begin with

― Lee626

yeah a lot of gender shit is hard to explain in rational terms, trans people and bathrooms, it's hard to explain

for instance, i've known women who are scared of using women's bathrooms for fear that they'll get clocked by how their pee sounds. i never really noticed that men peeing and women peeing sounds different. it does, for the record, but even though i actively listen to things a lot of people take for granted, the thought of listening to people peeing never occurred to me, and honestly, even now that i know it's an option it's not anything i've ever done or would ever want to do.

this may be doable for the bewanged among us but i wld need to hoist meself astride the sink and i'm not sure as the bathroom sink could support my weight and there would be objections if i attempted this in the kitchen which leaves the sinks of my enemies or the public, in which bathrooms i would already be feeling nervous so i'm afraid this is gonna have to be a no from me

― what followed the axes was just the beginning (cat)

pissing in the sinks of one's enemies a poor second to pissing on their graves imo

-

ok here's the thing about pissing in the sink. i was once "bewanged", as cat so beautifully puts it, and my aim was... every stereotype about guys pissing you can think of. part of it was that i wanted to spend as little time acknowledging my bewanged status as possible. spending time to actually aim correctly didn't seem particularly worth it. i have also been blessed with an enormous prostate, meaning bph, meaning even before my egg cracked i spent most of my time sitting down because of the quantity of dribble. finally, my diplopia means that i functionally do not have depth perception. all of which means that it was more accurate to describe me as peeing _on_ toilets than _in_ them. based on my observation, this is pretty common practice among the bewanged.

which is to say the whole "peeing in the sink" thing just seems like a new way of doing what guys have been doing from time immemorial: peeing on the floor.

When my son is eating meals in the living room I am effectively a kitchen prisoner and sometimes it takes him hours to eat it. If I go upstairs to use the bathroom, the opportunist dog will burst through the door and steal his dinner. I put a latch on the kitchen door for this problem and would lock the dog in the kitchen and go out the side door and round the side to the front door to use the upstairs toilet. This system stopped working when the front door lock broke and the council replaced with a cheap shit lock that can't be opened from one side if the key is in the other. I cant leave the key out of the door because one of my son's myriad of OCDs is that the key has to be in the door and I can't hide it from him because that would be effectively making him a prisoner. lol .. this is what drives me to pissing in sinks.

Fwiw, hospitals (and other medical workplaces) as well as art studios do tend to have footpedal-operated sinks. Because if your hands are covered in germs or paint or clay you don't want to touch a faucet/tap handle.

But if you don't see handles, it's not unreasonable to think it might be a peeing place.

my son (who doesn't piss in sinks) got sent home from college a couple of weeks back. They do horse therapy for autistic students there, and he'd got too familiar with the horses after weekly stable visits and kept running into the horse enclosure and trying to play with them as you might with dogs. Which is a bit of a safeguarding issue when some of the horses had riders on them. His one-to-one said it was a moment of sheer panic for them at the time. I told them to do more boring activities with him, it's always fraught with danger doing interesting stuff with him.

Kitchen sink when I was 10 or 11, and my parents left me alone to babysit my little sister. I don't think there was any reason why, except to be a little 5th grade maniac. I cleaned the sink up with dish soap afterward because I wasn't a total monster.

As a younger adult, I did this a few times in the bathroom sink while intoxicated. There is something luxurious about the feeling of cool porcelain on the ol' oat tote. I don't drink anymore, though, and have kept that impulse in check for a while.

I only do this when I've literally got no other choice other than risking exposing myself to neighbours or pissing myself. By my standards that doesn't make me a savage. And I have very high standards of personal and domestic hygiene!

If we take sink to also encompass any basin or bucket or vessel that's accessible when the bathroom is not. Which reminds me of an old, old ilxor post (Beth??) where she said the most convenient thing to blow your nose in at night is the pair of not too dirty underpants on the floor. I appreciate that.
