I have a need for really simple narratives so on threads that resulted in somebody getting banned I always want to see somebody say "Ok, that's it, you're banned" - I think there was one thread where somebody (the w00den wand dude I think?) said "fucking ban me!" and then somebody who hadn't been participating in the thread said "OK" and that was the whole post and then there was, like, silence and peace

What the original poster called laxity is a relatively high level of tolerance for stupid or offensive behavior. That toleration can be and sometimes has been exhausted.

However, I don't think the moderators can or should give directions about the best way to get banned. That's like giving matches to pyromaniacs

I banned Mickey - I think the straw that broke the camel's back with me was some aggressive behaviour towards a female poster and generally being a dick all over the Columbia shootings thread. I was kind of surprised that no one at all complained about that one actually. I was totally unsurprised that no one complained about Roger Adultery/Manlishi.

J0hn D@hlem and AaronHZ were both banned for flooding the boards with multiple threads, some aggressive, in one case containing a load of personal shit that other posters had confided in them. I think both of them were going through breakdowns of sorts?

Darramouss was banned and then unbanned in a fit of conscience and then immediately banned again.

thing is that roger adultery was actually a really good poster on ILM, it's just that he liked to antagonize ILE's liberals. IIRC he didn't get banned for racist comments so much as his views on gun control & the second amendment? I don't follow ILE political threads much, so I could be wrong. Also, RA was a nice guy in the real world. Totally bought be beer on a few occasions.

He seemed alright a lot of the time but I think he got really o_O with some of the race button-pushing towards the end. Assuming he's not here in some other incarnation.

Fwiw, I'm not butthurt over the banning at all. I briefly considered sending Pashmina a missive detailing why Tombot is the worst, but then decided it wasn't worth it. I am mad however, about Tombot falsely accusing me and Jordan S. about spreading really terrible rumors that we wasn't even aware of, let alone involved with. I'm actually glad that thread got deleted, because things got really fucked up toward the end.
