gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i realize i didn't include Ks as a detrimental offensive stat... what do y'all think?

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

aw, screw it. let 'em whiff!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i would support k's as a minus, but am not going to raise a stink about it.

j.q. higgins, Friday, 2 April 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

But there is one female in the league! She's a cool Chicagoan.

are you calling me a woman, punk?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe... ;-P

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

well..... at least i'm a cool woman.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

now that i think about it, maybe your roommate is familiar with the other chicagoan (from a mid-late 90s mailing list).

LEAGUE UPDATE:
• You have elected to run retroactive stats for your league. As a result, all previously accumulated stats will be cleared and rerun from opening day. Please make sure all of your managers have their desired retroactive stat lineup set by 11:59pm PT on Sunday, Apr 4.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

How come we're doing retroactive stats? It's like having a wayback machine to see who did well in the Yankees-Devil Rays games.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

does that mean i could bench mussina to lose his bloated ERA?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool it Aaron W-brenner!

Unless you forfeit your #1 draft pick, you're not allowed to complain.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

my dog knows this other person?!?!??!?!? weird.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, according to friendster pictures, that may not be too far off.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

linus has a very active social life.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

So what is the deal w/ the retro stats? Should EVERYONE be forced to put in the players they had play those two games, to be fair? Or is this assumed?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i.e. Yanc3y must play the Moose!

bnw (bnw), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i NEVER would've started him against the d-rays! they're giant killers!

i'll stay out of this decision, but it seems that if a team were to start a player because they played well in those first two games the opposite should also be true.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Like Tino? But he was due after being so sucky with the Cardinals!

Seriously, it's a long season. Gaudy numbers from those 2 games will fade in a couple weeks.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

bnw otm, we're arguing about like 1% of the final totals.

Vitamin Leee (Leee), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

We're arguing?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 2 April 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

you best be gettin' outta my face, popshots.

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 3 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

DON'T GO THERE MORAN

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 3 April 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we talking about rounders, chaps?

Dorien Thomas (Dorien Thomas), Saturday, 3 April 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, don't be bringing that namby pansy brit speak when we are about to get ruff.

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 3 April 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

B!ll S!mmons (not) to thread!

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 3 April 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

the retroactivity was announced prior to the draft. sorry guys.

if the 2 games played would have significantly changed your drafting strategy (well up to round 16 at least), i apologize again.

gygax! (gygax!), Saturday, 3 April 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

But I only drafted John Burkett b/c I thought we were going retroactive to 1993 :(

bnw (bnw), Sunday, 4 April 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

<table border="1">

yeah baby!

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

crap, looks like it won't take a table eh?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, unfortunately the site mod disabled table and pre tags.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

poop, the crux of it was that mike timlin went 2/3 of an inning, and came out with a whip of 7.46 and an era of 40.50.

onward and upward.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, yes. it would appear that mike timlin's evil twin has reared his ugly head. so hard to tell w/o the evil twin facial hair, but o's fans are quite familiar w/ his performance.

j.q. higgins, Monday, 5 April 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The Red Sox filed for a Mulligan following the game. I think everyone for the Bostoneers was sleeping (or, in Damon's case, hibernating).

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Johnny Damon = Unfrozen Caveman Centerfielder

earlnash, Monday, 5 April 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What is this "flyball" you speak of? And this round spherical object hurtling towards me, am I supposed to track this down and "catch" it with this animal skin you tell me to wear? I am sorry, but I have been frozen for over 2 million years, and your concept of "defense" and "outfielder communication" confounds me.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

dude: seriously.

actually, i think w/ the locks and the burly scruff, damon looks more like a freshly thawed caveman centerfielder.

somewhat related questions: who's put on more weight a) sir sidney ponson or b) david ortiz?

j.q. higgins, Monday, 5 April 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

C) Don Zimmer.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

baseball's answer to lawrence tierney?

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey higgins, with regard to your waiver priority query... because of the draft order, those drafting last are given higher priority in claiming players from the waiver wire. so if someone drops a player and more than one manager tries to pick him up, the manager with the higher waiver priority gets first dibs.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i figured that much, just curious what accounts for the shift in priority. i'm pretty sure i drafted last.

i'm really just bitter you snagged rod beck, but i guess i should have just given him a higher priority. i mean, it's really an issue of my own ignorance of the waiver system, i just don't want to make the same mistake twice...n'ahmean?

j.q higgins, Monday, 5 April 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I know... I had to pick up Koch, Nen and Beck because my pitching needs some big help and I needed to take some risks and get some trade bait if these guys start racking up some big time #s.

If this works out: Koch, Nen, Beck, Lidge and Gagne could be the best relieving pitching I've ever had in Fantasy Leagues, and I got them all in a 19 manager league!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy shit. Corey Patterson just absolutely destroyed the second pitch of the season. I guess he's healthy.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Holds Me Now

The Tamil Tigers are looking for long relief. If somebody needs a mediocre starter make me an offer.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

shit, i'm without a tv for the next couple hours. wood is fun to watch. i hope the yankees make a play for jimenez...or at least SOME 2B.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Rich Harden pitch yesterday vs. the Giants and he did fine against the MLB players. It was those pesky Fresno AAA players that did him in. He looked sharp.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

baseball prospectus says he'll be the best starter on the A's staff by the end of 2005 EVEN IF they keep zito, mulder, and hudson. that's unbelievable praise.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

and w/ joe blanton coming up...that would just be unbelievable if they could retain all those guys. i'm sure they can't, though.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i figured that much, just curious what accounts for the shift in priority. i'm pretty sure i drafted last.

Also higgins - when you make a pick-up off the waiver wire, you automatically go to the bottom of the queue. So, yeah, you did have the number 1 waiver pick, but when you used it on Larkin you moved to last. As others use theirs, you will move up again (i.e. Starfighters used his today so now he is last and you are 18th).

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost RE: OAK vs. SF 4/3/04

Blanton relieved Harden and looked pretty good, although nothing special.

On the other hand, Brian Cooper (Fresno AAA) was perfect through 5, only giving up 1 hit (albeit a dying quail HR to damian miller) and one walk in the 6th. He finished with 6Ks. Had a couple 4/5 pitch innnings.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

ALou 3 RBI double.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(middle 6th) Detroit 4, Blue Jays 0. The scorer gave Halladay 4 ERs when it should have only been 3.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, the al east top dogs are having rough opening days. i hope it bodes well for the season.

i wonder why the hell the O's didn't hold on to jason johnson.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

They took it back... only 3 ERs for Halladay.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

unbelievable. (3rd time i've said that in the last half hour)

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

DET 7
TOR 0

Halladay out: 6 2/3rds, 6 ERs.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

here is the post where I bitch about not getting hitting stats for pitchers, esp. when kerry wood just collected his first RBI of the year. okay I'm done now.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

last season halladay gave up a total of 2 runs to the tigers.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder if detroit can be this years royals? if pena and others have big years, rodriguez doesn't decline, and johnson, bonderman, and...oh, i'm dreaming.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Sandy Alomar Jr. 2-run shot

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

hiya, broheems!

Kerry (dymaxia), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm changing my team name to Pudge and the Studs to celebrate this magnanimous victory.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Kerry!

Yeah even Paulie came through! Maybe this year won't be a disaster after all..

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

El Caballo HR!!!

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 5 April 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

womack with 2 walks and 3 SBs out of the leadoff spot. i'm enjoying it while it lasts.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, royals score 6 in the bottom of the ninth to pull off the comeback.

bnw/anyone else - didn't morris used to throw in the low-mid 90s? he wasn't topping 90 today.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost = Marte gives up HR-single-HR = 6 runs in the bottom of the ninth for KC. Royals win 9-7.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oy, my pitchers are getting crushed. Nomo + Matty Mo = Many Mo Homeros

bnw (bnw), Monday, 5 April 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy mackerel. It's last year all over again. Guillen = 1 game = 1 managerial mistake.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 5 April 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

this lincoln kid (for the cards) has a 95 mph fastball and a very nice curve, but i've never heard of him. he should be a big boost for their pen. looks like LA is going down and pitt-philly is going down to the wire.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder how long it will be until batters come to the plate fully encased in plastic armor.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 5 April 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Rueter is all over the place.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

re: halladay - today has indeed been a sad day but halladay was off to an awful start last year and we know how that ended.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 5 April 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Bonds hits HR #659 off Oswalt, a screamer to Right Field to tie the game. Ray Durham and Michael Tucker were on 1st and 2nd.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

must....fight....urge...to...cheer....for...bonds...

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

No shit? Why did he have to wait right until the start of the basketball game started to do it? I was enjoying that stros/giants game and I just turned away a minute ago. Oh well. Gygax, who was the Giants reliever that was getting roughed up?

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Leo Estrella, who with Wayne Franklin and Kevin Walker, was picked up in the 10-11th hour by Giants GM Brian Sabean.

These 3 guys have been UGLY this spring (double digit ERAs) and now that these season has started, show little improvement.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Octavio Dotel is ALL over the place... totally out of control.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

So F-Rod is in line for the vulture?

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

F-Rod ideally is the 7th inning guy with Herges (currently doing his best Tim Worrell impersonation) setting up Nen as closer (wishful thinking).

However, with Schmidt, Eyre, and Nen all on the DL as of opening day, Sabean grabbed some cheap arms... looks like a desperate move... we shall see how it pans out.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

barry hits #659

http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20040406/capt.hta11004060151.giants_astros_hta110.jpg

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

amazing that oswalt was left in.
i'm not facing the same dilemna as bnw. i love watching the guy hit but god knows i'll never go so far as to actually cheer for him.

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

you can't really fault oswalt, this one was low and away as well...

http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20040406/capt.hta10904060158.giants_astros_hta109.jpg

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ray Durham (2B) on the trading block - see above & think of all those runs scored batting in front of Bonds

Looking for quality relief pitching. Make me an offer.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

HELLO TROY GLAUS! 2 HRs, both to center-right-center, and 4 RBIs. He's looking foine (encroaching bald spot notwithstanding).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i was going to mention his new bionic eyes but your talk of "encroaching bald spots" has made me sad.

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

nice!

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

sheff's not on roids anymore (i would assume) but he just launched one to the opposite field (as did a-rod before him). mussina is apparently looking very flat, not that i can see it. 4-1 yanks early.
the boston bullpen was sharp as expected. no hits or walks in 3 innings of work.

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

meanwhile the angels are letting the m's know there's a new second fiddle in the AL west.

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

k.mat apparently homered in his first at-bat!

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah he jacked it fierce. that is so fucking awesome! i wish i was in tokyo tonight.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone know if it was it the first pitch? that would be truly spectacular?

almost a year ago, my friend's little brother and i were wagering at a yomiuri giants/yakult swallows game whether kaz could make it in MLB. he ended up giving me a seibu lions hat (his team, and kaz his favorite player) and i sent him a NYM hat.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

kaz had a loooooooooooong double for his 2nd AB.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

glavine should just retire.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

So should Mussina.

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

He is Tampa's bitch again.

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hehehe.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

They just said it was the first pitch Matsui saw. 20th player in MLB history to hit a home run off his first ever pitch.

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

that has made my day... MATSUI KAZUO!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Kaz-watch: with the bases loaded, he coaxed a walk. you have to love the power and plate discipline combination!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to know Glavine's career ERA in the first inning, he always gets touched in the first. As the typical, he has settled down and pitched pretty well from then on.

I hope the Mets hold on, I have Glavine.

earlnash, Tuesday, 6 April 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

kaz only had 50 walks last year. i'd expect that to drop. nevertheless i really really wanted the yankees to pick him up and trade sori for a-rod. fortunately they had the balls to do the latter.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yankees lose big to d-rays, cardinals losing to brewers, and dmitri young is out for 6 weeks (did you know he had a .909 ops last year? that went completely under the radar.) :-(

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I sat two different guys who homered today...but The Starfighters! had three (3) triples this afternoon, so boo-ya to that.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

wait wait wait .... John, did you just say that Dmitri Young is injured???!!!

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=240406114
blame it on the astroturf.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ha - yeah, I did believe you. I was just making a lil' joke at the oft-injured Young's expense..

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, i figured you were having a fantasy baseball freakout.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

soriano: 2 games, 2 walks. PLEASE don't tell me he's gonna pull a sammy.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

fuk. i traded for a new outfielder just in time (to full in for young).

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Simontacchi is suxors.

earlnash, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

unless ESPN is glitchy, Frank Thomas just fouled off 13 pitches to draw a walk in the first inning against Darrell May. anyone watching this game?

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

go to mlb.com, click on gameday for this game, let it load, then click on the current inning tab.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, i bet that's on FSN or WGN over here. i wish i'd seen that AB.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

that is called a productive at bat.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

beltran continues to be the man. he's only walked twice in this game but it's a sign his spike in bb/k last year was for real.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

must be on fsn, i just walked by a tv tuned to wgn and sharon osbourne's show was on. bloody hell.

Joe Mauer, out for the rest of April with torn miniscus cartilage:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1777585 ... This sucks as he's on my other team. Luckily, I picked up Benito Santiago last night, and now HE can get injured, and the world goes round.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds like YOU need a Molina brother, Begs!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone watching the yankees game? brown has given up two groundball singles, one through short and the other an infield hit to second. i'm wondering if an average fielder would've had a good chance at getting outs on both of them.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't he getting outpitched?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

he apparently is now. 2 line drives after the infield hit. my guess is that if they had an actual second baseman playing second base (or even miguel cairo who is twice the player enrique is), the score would still be 0-0. i wasn't going to mention the paul abbott no hitter because i keep expecting it end with a bang pretty soon, but maybe i should try to jinx him.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

paul abbot, journeyman last-minute replacement is sticking it to the yanquis. what do you think is on george steinbrenner's mind right about now?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

the jinx succeeded, 2-1 yanks.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

oh fack¡ please no one draft dimitri, please please please.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 8 April 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a good day, which could have been great if the A's and Cubs hit as both Maddux and Zito pitched good enough to win. I've gotta like Vlad and Chipper both going deep, I hope that happens every day.

earlnash, Thursday, 8 April 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

dyson, email gygax! or wait for him to read this. i'd imagine the commish can override these types of mistakes. i saw young on waivers and had thoughts of scooping him up and planting him on my dl but i'd just moved mauer to my dl spot.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 8 April 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! -- how does the k/bb stat work? Cos right now, Colon's got 5/0, which shows up as a nil in that category. (Not that it's going to matter, must curious.)

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, yahoo! stats div/0 = 0 or INF depending on what screen you're looking at. i checked your team k/bb on stattracker which is 2.86 (20K/7BB).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Im thinking about dropping Austin Kearns, as I already have plenty of power and I drafted him drunk. I have an intense hate for him three games in.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

kearns just came home on a passed ball by barrett. i think ron santo needs to be put under a suicide watch.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

sox have 2 hits against vazquez so far, both of them groundballs to short that any decent shortstop could've fielded.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

John, how long do you give the Yanquis before the switcharoo takes place?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

my guess is that, if next year beltran is not available for some reason, the yankees will move on one of the available 3Bs (probably koskie) and trade lofton. that'd shift jeter to center, where he belongs (and he can save some face and stroke his ego what with the glory assosociated with that particular position).

it won't happen this year; jeter is not a guy that makes a lot of errors or blatantly awful plays -the kind that would most likely get george riled.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 8 April 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

they're already talking about re-signing boone to play 2nd...as if enrique wilson won't suffice. uhhh...

btw...i'd never really paid much attention to tejada before he moved to the o's, but i gotta say: his defensive chops are quite impressive.

AND Ryan Vogelsong! 7 innings, 7 Ks, 1 BB, 1 run, and a win (no thanks to the Pierats throwing walking shark chum Jose Mesa out there to secure the win). Phear my pitching staff (Cliff Lee notwithstanding).

Also - I might change my team name to the Boot & Ears, thanks to the awkward efforts of Mr. Mora (4 Es in 4 Gs!), Mr. Giles, and Mr. "Y'all Warned Me, I Know" Furcal.

My starters are all pitching well and not getting a win, it is suxors just like Simontacci.

If John Olerud didn't wear that funky helmet and it would hurt his feelings, the Mariners would have sat his ass on the bench over a year ago.

Like most of his Twins teammates, Torii Hunter has a boo boo and is on the DL. To replace him, I get Karim Garcia, which might work out OK if my fantasy team gets in a street fight. At least he is playing every day.

My bullpen is pitching well, other than the fact none of them are going to get any saves, which was a mistake in hindsight. I can at least feel good that it would probably work out in real baseball.

earlnash, Saturday, 10 April 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Dusty Baker had no love for Hee Sop Choi. Most pundits had no love for Hee Sop Choi. But I had love for Hee Sop Choi. And the love is being reciprocated (3 HR, 6 RBI). Love ya, Hee Sop.

Also, please, Melvin Mora, when you're in the field, just run away from the ball. Don't even THINK of fielding it. Just run. Away. Do it for the quintuplets.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 10 April 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Pitch 7 - Foul
Pitch 8 - Ball
Pitch 9 - Ball
Pitch 10 - Foul
Pitch 11 - Foul
Pitch 12 - Ball

News: Word circulating among baseball executives suggests that Mark Prior's right elbow injury might be serious enough to require Tommy John surgery and keep him out the entire year, according to a report in Sunday's Newark Star-Ledger. Cubs manager Dusty Baker has been confiding in friends that the situation is bleak.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have intimate friends like that I'd tell, No. 1. No. 2, it's a lie. That's as big a lie as I have ever heard. I wish whoever started this or wrote this would leave my name out of it." He goes on to say: "That's bad journalism. That makes no sense. That's just wrong. For us to even have to answer it, it doesn't get any more wrong than that."

mattbot (mattbot), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Leee/David, what on earth makes you think I'd start him (or any other pitcher) at a game at Coors?

We're talking about a 2nd week Free Agent pickup in place of a guy with no role on the Os! This is not a controversial 4th (or in my case 1st/2nd) round pick!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

by the way, when I drop darrell may, please no one pick him up. just let him lie there dying the death of 1000 dogs after his first two "performances" of the year almost singlehandedly negated the rest of my pitching. and benito santiago keeps striking out. better call me prince charles because I got the WORST of the royals.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Other notes:

He had a great last start last year (as Mattbot notes above), he looked just as dominant in Spring, and has started 2-0 against LA (1st in the NL West, dear Leee) and Arizona. He is currently the 11th most valuable pitcher in our fantasy league.

obviously it's early, but estes's k rate is nothing to shout about and he's not inducing any more groundballs than usual. and estes is infamous for making a dominant start or two and then sucking for a month. i probably wouldn't pitch him anyway other than la.

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

well i don't know where to stick this and it doesn't deserve it's own thread, so: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-angels-anderson&prov=ap&type=lgns
Anderson agrees to $48 million, four-year extension with Angels

i feel like they overpaid here for a guy who's solid but not exceptional, entering his decline phase, and will probably revert back to a corner outfield position soon. then again, colon got more than that and he's probably the pitching equivalent, talent-wise. i can't help but feel like 10M tops should have covered it.

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

the biggest knock on Dontrelle (and probably the reason why he fell apart at the end of last season) is he has SERIOUS control issues. he is not the most efficient pitcher out there and he seldom goes more than 6 innings without getting in to trouble.

his Pitches per Innings last year was 16.6. in the playoffs (fatigue) he swelled to 20.7 (with a near-double digit ERA).

so far this year he looks like last year: 2 starts, 16.3 pitches per inning.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, he's awful: 0.00 ERA, 2 wins, 12 Ks (to 5 walks), 1.000 batting average, 3 RBIs. just stinking the place up out there.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Those 5 walks came today, though, in only 5 innings. I'm worried JUST a bit, but if he can pitch something like his first start, I'll be happy.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 15 April 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

B2D, i'm just saying he needs to work on his control because he throws a lot of wasted pitches. after about fifeen-twenty more 100-pitch starts where he fails to get out of the 6th inning, he may not be so invincible.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 15 April 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's still possible for him to get his control under wraps, but if not, this is why his leg-kick is going to be dropped eventually, sad to say.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 15 April 2004 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear ya gyg!, I hear ya.

and hey Popshots, he only walked four guys today in five innings. his last start was 8 Ks, 1 walk. and dude's got as many RBIs and home runs as A-Rod (o I love ESPN sometimes).

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

With highly touted Twins catchers LeCroy and Mauer on the DL, 3rd reserve catcher Blanco is on fire:

BA: 8/22 = .364
OPB: 5 BBs = .500
SLG: 3 HRs, 3 2Bs = .909
8 Runs scored and 7 RBIs

A couple more of those and we'll be in contention by May.

John (jdahlem), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

It's early, but the Marlins are off to a good start. That starting staff is looking as good as promised, 30 innings of shutout baseball in a row going into Friday's game and a team ERA of 1.22. That is freaking nasty. Benitez seems to have regained some form at the closer position, as he already has 6 saves and has pitched well.

The day I realize I'm in fifth place (been busy preserving my hot start in my other league where money is involved) and start making roster moves, the team goes in the shitter. -20 this week so far. Call me Bowabot, my team hates my presence.

mattbot (mattbot), Friday, 16 April 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i pulled a -18 out of my ass yesterday. thanks josh fogg!

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 16 April 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Tho I'm in first place, I fear my team's going to be involved in a lot of 10-8 games due to shoddy defense (HI MELVIN!) and piss-poor bullpen options, and if my #1 goes down w/ an injury, I will be free-falling.

Mattbot OTM re: roster moves killing teams - in a previous keeper league I just abandoned, I gutted my team's hitting lineup 10 times over, when it was my pitching that needed help, for reasons I can't fathom now. And I was doing OK in the league UNTIL I started making moves. So sad about me. In this respect, I must thank gygax! for putting this transaction cap on the league. Thanks, gygax!

Also, could Philly just can Bowa already?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 22 April 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Rivas has hit two jacks while on the bench and has some Rbis. Polanco isn't hitting terrible, but like many of the Phillies isn't scoring or driving in any runs.

I think the Bowa death watch is on, if they aren't above .500 before May 10th, he will be toast.

Beware the snake power of Diamondback Danny Bautista, 5-8 2hr's 5rbi in today's win over the Brewcrew. He also has a 13 game hitting streak, but until the past couple of days they have all been singles for few runs. With Torii Hunter on the DL, he is a definite improvement than my first replacement outfielder.

Eric Chavez also has a crazy line going today: 1-1 hr, 3rbi, 3runs, and 3 walks.

Scratchy Simontacci is on waivers for any who are interested. I scoped SD's Ismael Valdes out of the free agency and he got a win today.

JIMMY ROLLINS IS GETTING HOT, he is now up to .163!

I'm as puzzled as Billy Beane about why I picked up Eurbiel Durazo.

I think I am going to stand pat for at least the first month or so and just troll through the dregs. I think Rollins will come around, he has been pretty consistent the past three years.

I drafted Hawkins with the belief that he will be the closer down the road. Borowski doesn't have it to be the closer on a team going for the golden ring. Hawkins is left handed and throws much harder, so I have to think he will eventually be the guy.

earlnash, Thursday, 22 April 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

plus borowski seems to have lost some velocity according to the tribune and sun-times so the last hurdle hawkins has to overcome is dusty's loyalty to his "proven guys". which could take a while.

what, no batting average? c'mon B2D, you just missed your REAL opportunity.

and also, I just want to see how Dontrelle "Thank God I don't play for Dusty Baker" Willis is doing come June/July.

Webb held his own with Prior and Schmidt after the allstar break last year. Dontrelle was seemingly transported to Coors Field in every other start.*

*may or may not be true.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 26 April 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just sayin', man, you talk shit about my man, you better have your Webb-gem facts in hand. Yr slippin, g!

Seriously, though, Webb is a great pitcher. I never said otherwise. I just think that there's something, as I've heard on ESPN and other places, in letting yr racehorse run. Some managers would be trying to mess with D's delivery to expend less energy, some would yank him more...but at what cost to him? It's gonna be easier this year, with Beckett coming on early and Pavano being so solid; he doesn't have to carry the team psyche on his back in the first half, which is bonus.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 26 April 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 26 April 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

K/9IP
Willis = 6.39
Webb = 8.61

GB/FB
Willis = 0.68
Webb = 2.31

I bet Dontrelle could break this record in 9 innings:

"April 27, 1993: Pirates knuckler Tim Wakefield tosses 172 pitches in defeating Atlanta, 6-2, in 10 innings. It is the most pitches thrown by a pitcher in one game in the 1990s. Fernando Valenzuela, in 1987, was the last to throw that many pitches in a game."

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 26 April 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Pshyeah - Al Leiter could throw that in 5 innings!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax, I don't even know what GB/FB stands for. I was gonna try to throw this one at you (Webb = .6 BB/inning, Willis = .4 BB/inning), but what does that mean on any kind of practical level? I have no idea. All it means to me is that they're both very good young pitchers, and that Dontrelle is NOT necessarily less efficient a pitcher than Webb.

I'd love either one of them on my team, but Willis would get the edge because he's the very embodiment of enjoying baseball. I'd think you'd be more appreciative of that quality than you seem to be.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

"Some managers would be trying to mess with D's delivery to expend less energy(...)but at what cost to him?"

more importantly, at what cost to US??

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously though, the times i've seen dontrelle pitch i haven't been at all impressed with his stuff. i think the legkick might be a huge part of his effectiveness.

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure he's trying to impress YOU with his stuff, John.

And what the hell, delivery is ALL part of it, for every pitcher. But I thought we'd already established that he's just a flash in the pan, a one-trick-pony, that his little leg-trick-thingie was already exposed by the all-star game last year. So what the hell is everyone's problem this year? Have they been trying that new Mendozaberry Kool-Aid?

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

jeez, i write (what i thought at the time to be) a 100% positive dontrelle post and begs still finds something to nail me on!

webb must be really out of it. he's been walking lots of guys in every game, but his history suggests he'll turn it around (dontrelle's does too). my guess is that webb's not as good as he last year would suggest (=better than d-train, sorry begs), so it'll be interesting to see how these two develop.

btw begs, i've suprisingly never heard anyone say that his leg-kick was just a gimmick that lasted only for so long before the big leaguers started catching on. if anyone did, yeah i'd say it's untrue, because he actually had just one bad month last year (august)(and, well, october if you count that) and smoked through all the rest. he was better in september than he was in may.

by the way guys, randy johnson looked really good tonight. it'll sure be nice to see him in pinstripes come july 31. (Fuck U All)

John (jdahlem), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, John, bless you that you still have high hopes. Maybe the Yankees can gut out a 3rd place finish, if things go their way. I'll be rootin' for ya, chief. Even as the Red Sox lap the competition, I'll have you and yours in the warm cockles of my thoughs, John. Chin up. ;)

Begs, GB/FB = ground ball to fly ball ratio. I've been slacking on my Stat Siginficance Studies this semester (darn that beer!), but I imagine it's better for a pitcher to have a high GB/FB ratio, since fly balls struck well can do more damage than ground balls struck well. (Sorry if I sound like a Pitching for Dummies seminar leader - I get like this when I start talkin' all authoritatively.) Also, the higher K/9 for Webb means less hitters are making contact (also a good thing). HOWEVER, that, coupled w/ the slightly higher walk rate for Webb (which is SHOCKING, given I thought D-Train was a free-pass lovin' cat) means he's probably going to throw more pitches in a start...? (I'll conveniently ignore D-Train's pitcherific 1st inning last night, BTW.)

Outside of all this conjecture - I've no doubt in my mind that, as great as Dontrelle was last year, it was the publicity that got him the ROY award, when BWebb should've gotten the love.

And, for bnw (channeling BDiff):

Hee Sop Choi is tall.
It takes more than a Baker's dozin'

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

higher g/f doesn't necessarily mean better pitcher - it's just part of who you are, like. BUT if you post a very high g/f (avg is about 1.20 i think - ex: derek lowe at 3.92), you're going to be keeping the ball in the park more often than a guy with a low g/f (ex: curt schilling at 1.05): good thing. another way to keep the ball in the park, obviously, is striking out guys, but a high k-rate is quite a more important than a high gb rate for obvious reasons (a strikeout is better than a groundball, duh): better thing. if you can combine a high k-rate (avg. is around 5.7 per 9 innings maybe?) with a high gb rate, you're basically a guaranteed golden god of baseball...if you can keep the walks down to a reasonable level, naturally. (no idea what the average here is, but extremes would be david wells and kerry wood - one effective in spite of his low k-rate because he doesn't walk anyone; the other gives seemingly every other batter a free pass but Ks the next guy to make up for it.)

right, so in 2003, webb's k/9 was 8.57, and his g/f was 3.44. his k/bb was 2.53 (the magic number here is generally considered to be 2.00, but again bigger isn't necessarily better, as home runs are a part of the equation: cf curt schilling/javier vazquez 2003 vs. brandon webb/tim hudson 2003). so yeah, the kid's alright.

(that's also DIPS theory in a nutshell. kind of.)

i'm sure none of you find this stuff nearly as fascinating as i do but i need a geekout post every once inawhile and you guys were just begging for one, so you know where you can stick it.

Current ILX Fantasy Free Agent Chad Moeller hits for the cycle... Brewers fans rejoice.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG the mighty Darren Oliver is starting against the Marlins so OF COURSE you bench Hee Sop because, in a place where pop-ups turn into moon shots, you wouldn't DARE start your 2nd-best HR hitter against the mighty Darren Oliver because lefties have never hit lefties, and the best way for a leftie young'un to learn how to hit them southpaws is to ride the pine. No, start the wife-beating warm & fuzzy asshat because he's a "proven veteran" and "swings a mean stick" and "insert Communications Major thesis statement here" and watch him go 2-for-5 because it's a real feat to get a hit in Colorado, especialy against that vaunted pitching staff in the pitcher-friendly confines of Your Fucking Commercials Suck Sexist Ass Field.

I need Torborg's son to give McKeon a helping friendly DDT right about now.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

who do you think dropped moeller? that would be ME. but I was really happy they won!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Choi's been misused like that his entire major league career. I wish I could find some AAA splits for you, he hit lefties in the minors quite well if I recall. No manager has yet given him a shot to hit lefties in the majors but they're positive he can't hit them.

FREE HEE SOP CHOI! ARREST RANDALL SIMON! EXCOMMUNICATE DUSTY BAKER!

I really hope Simon doesn't end up cockblocking Craig Wilson (doing REALLY WELL right now) (see what happens when you give hitters playing time, folx?) or Jason Bay once Bay comes off the DL.

Jack McKeon must've been asleep at the switch yesterday. Hee Seop was allowed to face a lefty (for just the 22nd time in his major league career, which is unfuckingbelievable) and promptly hit a 3-run DONG.

they pulled kim after 5, his final line:

5 innings, 1 hit, 1 bb, 2k's.

WP - B Kim.

Pitches-strikes - B Kim 70-44.

Ground balls-fly balls - B Kim 6-6.

Batters faced - B Kim 17.

considering there were two errors behind him facing 17 over 5 innings is a damn fine debut.

Falls From Grace: Damian Moss

This guy was pretty great for Atlanta 2 years ago. Check out the line from his start against Boston tonight:

Top of the 1st
-J. Damon walked
-B. Mueller singled to left, J. Damon to third
-D. Ortiz singled to right, J. Damon scored, B. Mueller to second
-B. Mueller to third, D. Ortiz to second on wild pitch
-M. Ramirez singled to right, B. Mueller scored, D. Ortiz to third
-J. Varitek homered to deep left, D. Ortiz and M. Ramirez scored
-D. McCarty singled to left
-M. Bellhorn struck out looking
-G. Kapler doubled to center, D. McCarty to third
-J. Halama relieved D. Moss
-P. Reese singled to left, D. McCarty and G. Kapler scored

7 Runs charged to Moss on only one out recorded. Yikes.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Recipe for the worst fantasy day ever:

- have 2 starters give up nearly twice as many runs as innings pitched
- have said starters cough up 4 HRs in only 6+ innings
- have 1 of those 2 not even make it through 2 innings
- have a 3rd starter on your bench pitch a great game
- have 3 rainouts lead to 5 lost games
- have a 6th player leave a game early w/ back spasms
- have your #1 guy hit a home run (#9!), only to turn around and drop a foul pop, causing your league-trailing fielding % to dip to somewhere around the fielding Mendoza line, which allows for one of your fucktastic pitching performances to bloom like a festering pussy (that's full of puss, you pervy luvvas) fast-food-enabled pimple.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 1 May 2004 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

How many points did you lose? I had a went from around 238 to down to 170 in a weekend three weeks ago and I am just getting back to 200 points.

I had three starters all get shelled the same day and my team had only 3 hits one day.

My hitting has been feast or famine. I had a day two days back where I had three hits and one rbi. My infield is hitting for shit, Durazo/Oelrud, Polanco, Rollins & Chavez. (Durazo did hit two jacks last night, so maybe he is figuring it out or more likely it is just playing against TB pitching.)

I picked Danny Bautista off of the scrap heap when Torii Hunter went on the DL and has helped out quite a bit and has been on a 21 game hitting streak. With Chipper Jones taking Hunter's place on the DL, this has been a fortunate pickup.

Ismael Valdez has helped make up some ground for my cruddy relievers like Ben Weber as he has won a couple of starts since I picked him up, but I have a quandry on Sunday as Valdez faces Glavine and I have both pitchers. Glavine has pitched pretty well so far this year and has had the Met bullpen clutch defeat out of the jaws of victory costing him a win.

earlnash, Saturday, 1 May 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, early on, point losses like that aren't too shocking, given that everyone's still in the hunt, to some extent. But because of yesterday's crapitude & lack of kismet, I dropped 16 points. Were it not for my ridonkulous hitting, I'd be sleeping with the fishes. And Jimmy Rollins is walking Spam.

hey begs, here's an article you might be interested in showing to your baseball-boycotting friend:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=neyer_rob&id=1792127

from infamous yankee-hater rob neyer, of all people.

John (jdahlem), Sunday, 2 May 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

John that's a good article! But my friend is more talking about money and spending imbalance than competitive imbalance. He says, "I decided not to give any of my money to Major League Baseball until there's less imbalance. Plus, the Brewers pretty much suck."

We fought, briefly. My arraignment is Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 3 May 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

b-b-but what's the problem with spending imbalance if it doesn't lead to any significant competitive imbalance, i ask him???? oh well, at least the second reason is kind of a good excuse.

Kerry (dymaxia), Monday, 3 May 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Whom should I start at Util: Adam Everett or Pedro Feliz?

Cos of that sexy Astros lineup, Everett gives me mad runs scored, which I sorely need (haven't even broken a hundred yet!).

But Feliz, who's finally gotten a semi-regular starting job, has better overall numbers with loads better power potential, although he'll score less given that the Giant's recent offensive explosion is probably a fluke.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Monday, 3 May 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I vote for Little E. Of course, I'm a little biased being an Astros fan, but I'm just ecstatic about the offense this guy is giving us.

Alex "Absolut" Cintron.

Although I always thought the Bermanisms that referred to somebody's name were lame. Ex: Tim "Eli" Wallach

boldbury (boldbury), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

One of my new faves is Cards outfielder Colin "Cole" Porter.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 6 May 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

All I have to say is that whatever Leo Mazzone did to turn Mike Hampton to a decent starter last year has completely worn off. Hampton is pitching like every start is in Denver again.

I had a great offensive night freakin ruined a couple nights back by four errors. Remind me never to draft a middle infielder from Philadeldelphia next year as between them and Hampton, I am not going to win jack squat.

Jimmy Rollins .182
Placido Polanco 1 RBI -- hasn't missed a start all year.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 6 May 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"Still sure you don't want Adam Everett???"

I'm going old skool and am taking a risk on Barry Larkin. He is playing quite well so far this year (fingers crossed) and I hope Barry can make it through his final season without having a serious injury, which has plagued the last few years of his career.

I'm gonna keep Rollins around for a while, he has been a decent ss for a few years and I hope this is just a slow start.

I just don't want to unload Hawkins, he will be the closer soon enough.

earlnash, Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)
