CC Sabathia is definitely a shadow of the former power pitcher he used to be but the guy has some guile. CC had one inning tonight where he totally came apart at the screws and gave up five runs, but somehow was able to regain control and then looked better than before he lost it. It wasn't enough, but he got through six which considering how gone he looked in the 2nd was kinda a sad impressive feat.

He's at the "...goes out there and competes every fifth day"/"minimizes damage" stage

just trying to give the team a chance to win

CC was a total beast that partial year with the Brewers. Only sporadically saw him pitch in his prime, but his stuff used to be lethal on right handed hitters as he could throw hard, down and in movement.

i haven't been watching MLBN lately but this is depressing given that the original appeal of the network way back in the day was that it offered so much more parity than ESPN, which was the yankees/red sox channel for so many years

not too complicated -- 90s kid growing up in upstate NY so obviously yankees. parents went to grad school at syracuse, followed melo to the nuggets. dad grew up in lancaster and is an eagles fan, so they were my team

while i do follow those teams and care about their success, this is the league pass/MLB.TV era now -- i'm just as much a fan of the league as a whole and interesting players and/or teams and follow accordingly. and because players generally don't receive the recognition they deserve unless their teams are winning, sometimes i root for the team too. hence i often root for the clippers even tho as a fan of the game the team pisses me off

this is a much more common sentiment on ILH than ILB i've noticed, y'all are so sensitive and old fashioned! like when i posted that judge comment i wasn't rubbing it in or anything, just pointing it out as a fan of the game

yeah i think the combination of fantasy and easy access to any team's broadcast has led to an increase in what you call sports cosmopolitanism. twitter too -- i can follow any team's beat writer i want to and have a better idea of whats going on in the clubhouse than people could have decades ago. plus i imagine national columnists like zach lowe or jonah keri are just a lot more informed about aspects of the league, story lines that otherwise would not have gotten the same attention. i mean i read fangraphs every day, that site pretty much sums up how i consume baseball and i imagine the same is true of a lot of sports fans these days

people are always surprised that i don't do fantasy, but i don't. believe it or not from how often i post to ilx i do try to limit the distractions in my life, and i always worry fantasy will consume me. i have to study like 5-10 hours a day
