If they can get past tomorrow, I wouldn't be shocked if the Yankees go on to win it all. They've got two starters who are sometimes among the game's best, and Happ is an okay #3 with run support. Chapman's dominant most of the time. I don't know about their middle relief. Most of all, though, they've got guys who hit home runs #1 through #8 or #9. Home runs are at a premium in the post-season, and barring a team slump, they'll be very hard to keep to fewer than three runs. Boston outscored them by 20 runs, but I'm wondering if the Yankees had a more consistent offense.
They could also be finished tomorrow.

still thinking about Gore at 3-2 w/ no outs, the announcers saying "you really should not swing at this", and then Gore striking out on a curve that was like 8 inches out of the zone. I don't think they'd catch him stealing 2nd or 3rd so chances are the Cubs at least tie it. if only he'd listened to A-Rod. oh well
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 13:16 (six years ago)
pretty representative game for this season's cubs, where they really struggled with run production for some reason. lots of losses where they got 1 or 0 runs.

lol, that hug was a funny and weird moment. i'm imagining there were plenty of cubs bros who were mad at baez for showing any sort of affection for a player on the other team during a wild card game, though. and although it wouldn't be a big deal the vast majority of the time, once of the announcers (i forget who) was correct in noting that it shouldn't be allowed to do that during a live play, because one of the runners on first or second could have tripped and fallen on the basepaths (for example) and arenado would've been hindered from throwing him out.
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 16:32 (six years ago)
While I agree that the hug shouldn't happen while the ball is live, Arenado seemed intent on not making a play and went for the hug as much as Baez did.

would that be ruled differently if Arenado was trying to make a play? I remember the announcers bringing up something like that.
on a related note, Prince Fielder chatting up everyone who made it to first was one of my favorite things about him. Baseball's kind of a funny sport like that. in football and basketball it's natural to dislike the man who's on you because they're always in your face and/or shoving you around. you don't really get that in baseball.

Glad I don't really care, if it was the Giants I would be going out of my mind. Today, oh well

This sets up nicely for a Chapman meltdown.

― Bee OK, Thursday, 4 October 2018 02:23 (six years ago)
If Luke comes up again, I'd be willing to bet he'll catch one in the ribs or mid-back.
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 4 October 2018 02:30 (six years ago)
I meant Aroldis.
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 4 October 2018 02:33 (six years ago)

A's payroll: more or less the equivalent of 2 yankees relievers + their DH + their entire disabled list.

― nba jungboy (voodoo chili), Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:09 (six years ago)
6th largest payroll, 100m plus than the Oakland A's.
It's not like we aren't consistent, most of us here cheered against the Cubs last night.
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:11 (six years ago)
6th largest payroll is frugal by Yankees standards
― nba jungboy (voodoo chili), Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:12 (six years ago)
It is still more than the double the ressources of the Oakland A's.
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:15 (six years ago)
In any case I hope you are excited for the retirement of Yankee legend Luke Voit next July.
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:26 (six years ago)
