Brewers & Rays though it will probably be the opposite.

Two seven game series leading to Dodgers Guards

― H.P, Sunday, 11 October 2026 04:36 (three weeks ago)

For the first time under the 2022 expanded 12-team format, no Wild Card teams had ever made to the League Championship Series nor the World Series, as all four teams made it are top two seed division winners.

Whoever wrote this on Wikipedia doesn’t know shit lol, the NLCS last year was Brewers-Dodgers (both division winners) and ALCS was Blue Jays-Mariners (both division winners). I guess they’re leaning REALLY hard on the technicality of “top two seed division winners” even though Cleveland won their division this year with a wild card contender type record and the only reason they’re the 2 seed in this year is the ALW champs scraped in with a .500 record lol.

MORE IMPORTANTLY all these teams are bye teams, the “rust not rest” excuse needs to be dead and never heard again. (It was always shit!)

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Sunday, 11 October 2026 04:48 (three weeks ago)

I'll root for the Brewers and Guardians, so that's who I voted for. Really hope Mis/Skubal lives up to the hype: in a long-gone fantasy world, the Brewers win 1-0 with a Chourio walk-off in the bottom of the ninth (both starters still in the game, of course).

― clemenza, Sunday, 11 October 2026 13:27 (three weeks ago)

This morning user Sharivari reminded me that he turned to me during game 3 of the CHW-CLE series, around the time Jo Adell hit that triple, and said “That’s it, they’ll come back to win this series.”

I laughed at him.

“The game’s not over yet, how can you be so sure.”
“It’s going to happen.”

And so it did. And while his lifetime supporting Spurs undoubtedly conditioned him to see disaster approaching from miles away that might be impossible for fans of normal teams, there is a pattern that repeats here too.

I remember when I was first getting into baseball and my two gurus on the subject were Tracer Hand and Mookieproof. Tracer Hand told me a formative memory for him was “the Bill Buckner groundball” of 1986:

https://i.postimg.cc/fRFWn5Jp/IMG-2150.jpg
And I focused on the impact on him as a fan, but later on I realised talking to our other Red Sox fan friend that there was a game 7. What the fuck! I thought. There were pitchers who didn’t make outs, batters who couldn’t score runs, and a whole nine innings to get it back, and Buckner was the scapegoat?

I think I have referenced the Athletic’s incredible oral history of the 2003 Chicago Cubs before on here. I had heard so much about this brilliant doomed team and their two aces. If you haven’t read it:

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4890443/2023/10/05/chicago-cubs-2003-season-oral-history/

They do a bit about the Bartman catch of course, but the Kerry Wood quote here always stuck with me:

https://i.postimg.cc/J4ZS4qYL/IMG-2148.jpg

We know what happened next, of course.

Finally, I thought about a point Mookieproof made to me about the difference of fan mentality and player mentality, about how fans live and die with every pitch, but players are quicker to shake off losses than fans because they have to. There’s always a game tomorrow, always a plane to get on, always a new pitcher coming in. You have to be able to shake off failure, or the game will eat you alive. So for regular season losses, he said, fans probably wouldn’t like that players move on faster.

But the postseason is different. We all know this, but this one so far has really underlined the truism that you get exposed hard in the postseason.

That Red Sox-Yankees season, for instance. I never believed in their hot streak. I remembered reading Cole Hamels dismissing Cody Ross in the not-yet-lost 2010 NLCS series to the Giants.

“He’s been battling and hitting pitches that most normal people can’t hit at this time,” Hamels said. “If he can hit that through the regular season, we’ll be very impressed, but that’s what happens when guys are hot: they can hit anything.”

Show some respect to 2010 NLCS MVP Cody Ross, Cole Hamels! Thing is, he was right, just not in that situation. It was true of the Red Sox summer streak which replicated a similar hot streak that propelled them to the playoffs last year. They got huge production from a selection of fringe and quadruple A guys. The pitchers were basically unhittable. And then they got to the playoffs and the fact that they couldn’t hit anything in September came up and sent them back home, just as it did last year.

The playoffs expose because the timescale is compressed. 162 season, you can shake off a losing streak, because you know you always have time, within reason. That Red Sox team was dead and buried 14 games under .500. The Boston Globe was publishing articles saying they should make a decision to sell in June.

But most players simply can’t overcome a brutal shock like that in such a short timeline. The 86 Red Sox and 03 Cubs teams were full of veterans with cumulative decades of experience. The 2026 White Sox, as we know, are the complete opposite. Now, they never had the pitching to make a deep run, but the bats simply couldn’t overcome enough to grind something out.

The Yankees fan interference catch, similar thing. They hadn’t led once the entire series. They think they’ve tied it. The umpire overturns the call, run comes off the board. They are punctured, they lose.

And that’s why the playoffs are everything that’s great about the regular season in a brutal do or die timeline.

― FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 11 October 2026 14:42 (three weeks ago)

Teams do come back from crushing post-season losses. The two that come to mind immediately are how the Reds came back to win G7 in '75 (after the Fisk HR in G6...that may not fit because it's not like anyone on the Reds made a monumental error or anything), and the Diamondbacks coming back from the two devastating Byung-Hyun Kim HR in 2001. Being able to wheel out Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling helps. Much to my surprise, Kim came back in 2002 and had a very good season--if they'd lost that series, maybe not.

― clemenza, Sunday, 11 October 2026 15:47 (three weeks ago)

i sit here with a thousand yard stare after reading that Kerry Wood quote, that series collapse is the source of so much Cub fan PTSD, mostly erased by the 2016 title, but not completely.

― omar little, Sunday, 11 October 2026 15:50 (three weeks ago)

xp they do, but like the Red Sox ALCS comeback, they tend to be remembered cos they’re anomalous, I’d argue.

Omar, have you read the article? It’s a heartbreaker. I think of that specific quote because of the way it instantly captures the way it turned in an instant. But there’s plenty of other awful stuff in there like

The next morning, the talk was about the Cubs collapse and the so-called Billy Goat curse more than Wood starting Game 7 at home. Steve Bartman’s name started getting out in the media.

CLEMENT: I’m a sympathetic person. So, in my mind, I’m like, man, we gotta win so this guy doesn’t eat this.

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Sunday, 11 October 2026 15:58 (three weeks ago)

Yeah, that whole story is just rough. I think ultimately Bartman was obviously not the reason for the whole thing falling apart, the Cubs were not psychologically able to close it out and that was the big part. The way the media went at that poor dude was not just irresponsible, but kind of evil.

― omar little, Sunday, 11 October 2026 18:12 (three weeks ago)

And of course, rather than the beginning of a new successful era, it just heralded the end. Like the 2015 cubs got booted from the playoffs, but that just led to 2016. 2004 was just a disaster in comparison, Mark Prior and Kerry Wood were done and Sosa declined and they just remained disappointing for another decade.

― omar little, Sunday, 11 October 2026 18:14 (three weeks ago)

Great post gyac. I read somewhere that in order to find a "true" series winner you need 20+ games to reach statistical significance. What is, in the regular season, just the ups and downs of the job take on a mythical status in the postseason, particularly once you're past the WC. The narrative machine goes into overdrive.

― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 11 October 2026 23:30 (three weeks ago)

With all due respect to WSGM7 winner Will Smith.... I have no idea what Roberts is thinking batting him 3rd with this slump he's got going

― frogbs, Monday, 12 October 2026 00:47 (two weeks ago)

Lights too bright for Miz? In a vacuum, game played in an empty stadium with no stakes you pick him over Skubal, but I think Tarik's traditional I-am-literally-a-psychopath starting pitcher temperament is what you want here.

47 pitches 1ER after 2IP against Miz. Not much more you can realistically ask for

― H.P, Monday, 12 October 2026 00:56 (two weeks ago)

man if only the Brewers could've made an offer for that guy

― frogbs, Monday, 12 October 2026 01:01 (two weeks ago)

but yea I don't think Miz's issue is not enough rest here I think he's just jittery and not yet mentally ready to be the ace pitcher you bring in for playoff games vs. superteams. a couple years ago he wasn't really considered much of a prospect and had long stretches where he was totally wild, might take another year or two before he feels fully comfortable I think

― frogbs, Monday, 12 October 2026 01:03 (two weeks ago)

With a little luck, he's doing fine. The Dodgers should be up 2- or 3-0.

― clemenza, Monday, 12 October 2026 01:09 (two weeks ago)

I can guarantee if you asked every dodgers fan in the world, they would all in a heartbeat take a 1-0 score 70pitches in 3ip from Miz

― H.P, Monday, 12 October 2026 01:10 (two weeks ago)

70 pitches through 3 though, mission accomplished by LA really

― be dang if it aint (WmC), Monday, 12 October 2026 01:11 (two weeks ago)

Not to say this game isn't still very winnable by the crew, but you know, you got your ace pitching you don't want to be down. This is smelling like NLDSgm3 Yama vs. Sale

― H.P, Monday, 12 October 2026 01:12 (two weeks ago)

but yea I don't think Miz's issue is not enough rest here

Mis IP
2022: 1.2 (A)

2024: 97.1 (AA/AAA)

Love it. Dodgers lost that game in the first three innings. I know Misiorowski was off, but I figured get through five (he almost did) and the Brewers must have decent middle relief if they won 103. And I still remembered Skubal melting down a couple of years ago in a G5.

Brewers struck out 13 times pretty hard to win when you do that

― frogbs, Monday, 12 October 2026 03:19 (two weeks ago)

I mean all around it was a pretty bad game for them and they still eked it out, they really needed it with their best pitcher going and Yamamoto tomorrow. who knows maybe they get to him

― frogbs, Monday, 12 October 2026 03:22 (two weeks ago)

11 walks and 13 hits is pretty wild for a 2-1 squeaker. so much for dominant pitching!

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Monday, 12 October 2026 03:23 (two weeks ago)

hey at least they didn't strike out 21 times

― mookieproof, Monday, 12 October 2026 03:50 (two weeks ago)

I was watching a video of Brice Turang saying yesterday that the hardest pitcher for him to hit was Skubal. Skubal is notoriously difficult for left handed hitters to hit home runs off, I think he might be in the single digits for his career still? Sinker at the knees, left on left off Skubal to left centre. I bet you line that up a billion times in a simulation and it comes out like that one time. The place must have gone crazy.

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Monday, 12 October 2026 07:28 (two weeks ago)

― lag∞n, Monday, 12 October 2026 13:41 (two weeks ago)

i actually thought smoltz was not too bad when discussing skubal/miz, some nice insights from a former pitcher. he was clearly geeked up to be watching this matchup

― 龜, Monday, 12 October 2026 14:02 (two weeks ago)

I like how he called out the Brewers relievers for issuing dumb walks, lotta announcers won't do that

― frogbs, Monday, 12 October 2026 14:05 (two weeks ago)

kind of a must win for the Brewers so they did what they needed to do

― (•̪●) (carne asada), Monday, 12 October 2026 14:29 (two weeks ago)

So we weren't wrong--we kept looking and looking for whatever caused that balk and couldn't see anything.

If they manage to beat Skubal and Yamamoto then I hope someone has a nice banana type pie waiting for Murphy

”If two-thirds of the inning is over, it means one-third of the inning is left, and a lot can be done. One-third is a big piece of the pie, you know what I mean? Like, I love banana cream pie with vanilla wafers. Or banana pudding in a pie-shaped form, if you know anyone that makes them. Anyway, I love that. And if I eat two-thirds of it, that's a big portion, but there's a lot left for tomorrow."

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Tuesday, 13 October 2026 00:29 (two weeks ago)

They gave away 4 runs and left 12 on base and still won by 3 vs. the best postseason starter in the game, awesome win

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Tuesday, 13 October 2026 00:35 (two weeks ago)

Brewers pitchers only gave up 4 hits (3 singles, 1 double) and 2 BBs but LA capitalized on that for 4 runs. Truly old school baseball.

Ohtani and Smith are both obviously hurt, might as well slot them in the meat of the order right?

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 13 October 2026 00:38 (two weeks ago)

De Paula as DH, Feduccia as C. Roberts just has to

― H.P, Tuesday, 13 October 2026 00:40 (two weeks ago)

Only way I'd miss that game is for tennis, and unfortunately, that's what happened. Love the result. Win one in L.A., one more at home. (Not that such thinking ever works.)

― clemenza, Tuesday, 13 October 2026 00:43 (two weeks ago)

Rays put in Cole Sulser instead of their #1 set-up man Kevin Kelly and Sulser ended up imploding. Thought the Rays were gonna cruise through this round but this game might set the tone for the rest of the series.

the Bauers BB was unreal. the Yelich single was basically nailed on after that

― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 October 2026 10:59 (two weeks ago)

I still see the Dodgers getting back in this series and sending it back to Milwaukee. I would not be upset if the Brewers win out though, they are a good story and at least it's not the Padres.

― (•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 13 October 2026 13:01 (two weeks ago)

brewers sweeping the dodgers in nlcs one year after getting swept by the dodgers in the nlcs would be such a good story

― 龜, Tuesday, 13 October 2026 13:24 (two weeks ago)

especially since they lost to the Dodgers in the playoffs twice before that, one in an NLCS that went to Game 7...still remember Yelich hitting a home run in the 1st inning and thinking, oh my god, this could actually happen....they lost 5-1. they just cannot score against this team in the playoffs. until now!

not counting any chickens though, Milwaukee has lost in the postseason in pretty brutal fashion before, this team definitely feels different though. they did all the things last night you do when you lose big playoff games, didn't really play great in Game 1 either...but they won both

― frogbs, Tuesday, 13 October 2026 13:39 (two weeks ago)

hard to say, I think Murphy has done a great job managing this team in Bud Grant style, he believes in his guys and expects them to be at their best but he's not pushing them too hard or forcing them to do things they're not good at. personally I think their pitching coach and related staff have to be the secret sauce, for the last decade they've made solid starters out of castoffs, great bullpen guys out of failed starters, lockdown relievers out of people who weren't really on anyone's radar, a lot of these guys like Burnes, Peralta, Hader etc. have gotten big contracts elsewhere but they've never been as good as they were in Milwaukee

no, can't find it either (they do have one on Contreras, who is also awesome)

Yeli is a good example of what makes this fanbase so great. feel like that kind of career - one MVP season, one near MVP season, then a bunch of seasons underperforming and hurt, never really coming through in the playoffs - would not play well in a major market. he's still widely loved here and you can tell it means a lot to him.

He and Joey Ortiz were in the Corbin Burnes trade and it’s taken both of them a little while to start clicking. Ortiz is a pretty good defensive shortstop, he’s a league average bat but they don’t need him to be a bopper, they just need him to put the ball in play.

Only two first-pitch HR in post-season history both given up by Snell (flashed by quickly, but I think I read that right...and I of course remember the other.)

― clemenza, Thursday, 15 October 2026 13:33 (two weeks ago)

Speaking of which...on this day in 1968: "MLB American League expansion draft: Kansas City Royals pick Baltimore Orioles pitcher Roger Nelson, and Seattle Pilots pick California Angels infielder Don Mincher first as they choose 30 players each."

― clemenza, Thursday, 15 October 2026 15:31 (two weeks ago)

did last night's game even sell out? there looked to be plenty of open seats in the upper deck and after the back-to-back HR it looked absolutely dead. I can't believe people were streaming for the exits while only down 2. yes the offense looked dead but this team won two straight WS and won 100 games this year, you really think it's over?

― frogbs, Thursday, 15 October 2026 15:37 (two weeks ago)

I've always said the postseason is all about watching teams with stars like the Brewers hit home runs.

― il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Thursday, 15 October 2026 15:46 (two weeks ago)

dodgers stadium is old school and seats 56k so harder to sell out xp

― 龜, Thursday, 15 October 2026 16:01 (two weeks ago)

did last night's game even sell out?

LA, if you've never been, is a carbrained quagmire of traffic at all hours. Dodger Stadium is located smack dab in one of the most isolated areas of that urban megapolis with zero mass transit solutions. The stadium is notorious for snarled congestion leading in (and out of) the park that backs up several major freeways on gamedays.

Dodger fans have the reputation for arriving in the 3rd and leaving in the 7th, and as someone who once lived within 2 miles of that stadium I can be empathetic to their plight as some fans have spent several hours in the car already just to get there, who wants to spend another hour or two idling in the parking lot in a sea of brake lights.

So that's why you never really see pictures of Dodger Stadium unless it's midgame because you will wonder if anyone even goes to the games due to the wide swaths of yellow and orange empty seats early and late.

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 15 October 2026 16:04 (two weeks ago)

dodgers stadium is old school

It was designed during/for peak carbrain-ism and is now a living fossil of that tattered empire.

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 15 October 2026 16:06 (two weeks ago)

(remember LA lost one of their basketball superstars because he thought taking a helicopter might be safer and faster than driving 60 miles)

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 15 October 2026 16:11 (two weeks ago)

If the Brewers win tonight I'm 100% turning this thread into a Mike Davis tribute.

Rays bullpen woes continue... wild.

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 15 October 2026 18:40 (two weeks ago)

Idk if I’d call giving up a two run shot to a random woes and not just standard variance tbh? Guardians look like they’re throwing everything at them pitching wise and the Rays haven’t been able to break through. 3 runs in 9 innings isn’t anything if they were hitting. And they were fortunate Wells and Matz looked good coming in.

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Thursday, 15 October 2026 19:51 (two weeks ago)

We’ll see, I’m not convinced either team has the juice for the WS on this form so far. I think you could have expected the Guardians to win this one with their ace going. Who was saying the other day they liked Chandler Simpson cos they loved Rickey?

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Thursday, 15 October 2026 19:53 (two weeks ago)

― 龜, Thursday, 15 October 2026 20:39 (two weeks ago)

I can’t recall where the clip was now but when they had that Negro Leagues game at Rickwood Field he made this fun post (nothing to do with Rickey, just Chandler Simpson tipping the cap to an older tradition of baseball that is important to him!)

hah love that. can't remember where i read it but i'm remembering now a lot of modern baseball strategy like the double steal was first innovated in the negro leagues (iirc it was considered unsportsmanlike in the white major leagues at the time?)

― 龜, Thursday, 15 October 2026 21:37 (two weeks ago)

so many redass killjoys back then too

― omar little, Thursday, 15 October 2026 21:51 (two weeks ago)

Yeah. I only got into the game in 2022 so a lot of the cultural knowledge and context of the game is something I have to learn for myself and form connections that would be obvious to long term fans, especially Americans. 42 was really helpful in that regard because the film specifically highlighted how Jackie played, as a legacy of how they played the game in the Negro Leagues, and how much certain white players in the league despised the way he played because “playing the game the right way” to an extent has always meant “playing the game the white way.”

https://www.mlb.com/royals/news/ozzie-smith-rickey-henderson-ferguson-jenkins-and-luis-tiant-enter-hall-of-game/c-120476322

Rickey debuted long after integration but he was still inducted into the NL HoF as a recognition of how his play reflected how those players played - fast, fearless, flamboyantly.

I actually really like Glasnow and he’s very good and frank about the realities of the game and what it demands from pitchers (look up his Chris Rose rotation interviews) & it’s good he got paid cos he’s been running his body into the ground for teams his whole major league career. Supremely talented when he’s on. He’s like 6’8 and throws hard, not that many teams can afford to have him as part of their rotation because you can’t guarantee he’ll qualify for the ERA title.

He and Snell have basically one Yamamoto’s worth of a rotation spot between both of them. It’s kind of what I was saying with risk not being a concept the Dodgers experience the same as the rest of the league due to their resources.

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Friday, 16 October 2026 06:10 (two weeks ago)

Whats so awesome about the sweep for me personally is that months ago I got tickets to see Weird Al, the Packers/Cowboys game, and BEAT, unbeknownst to me that these all fell within the same week, which are today, Sunday, and Monday, the potential games 5, 6, and 7. I don't know how I could've concentrated during any of them!

― frogbs, Friday, 16 October 2026 12:44 (two weeks ago)

2025 sour-grapes guy: what I especially love is the humiliation factor. You're going to get swept, you're going to lose the final game at home, and you're going to lose the lead in every game.

― clemenza, Friday, 16 October 2026 12:57 (two weeks ago)

last year sucked but it wasn't exactly difficult emotionally because it never really felt like the Brewers were in it. when Shohei hit his 3rd home run in that game where he also struck out 10 it just made me laugh like, okay, I get why they gave this guy four trillion dollars

2018 (also against the Dodgers) was the one that was brutal. Brewers were up 2-1 and had a chance to get them on the ropes but lost a 13-inning Game 4, the one where Machado (possibly) tried to injure Jesus Aguilar and then scored the winning run with the help of a wild pitch. pretty sure this happened at like 2 AM and I had to work the next day at 6:30 so that was brutal. they got it to Game 7 and Yelich hit a HR in the 1st inning and I remember thinking, oh my god, they could actually be WS bound. they lost 5-1 though. iirc things flipped when Yelich got robbed in the outfield and then Puig hit a 3 run HR off Jeffress, which was fairly predictable given the announcers saying Jeffress hadn't given up a homer in soooo long

at the time it seemed like that was gonna be their last chance for a while, insane they've made the playoffs every year since. Yeli of course is the only one left from that team and outside of Burnes, Hader, Woodruff, and maybe Orlando Arcia (?) none of those players are even in the majors anymore.

I’ll watch the rest of that clip in a minute but this reminds me of a conversation I had earlier about how Hamilton was hated in Boston even though then as now he was never an everyday player and was basically moved around various positions, not encouraged to or directed to bunt, attracted disproportionate amounts of hate. He’s not an everyday guy on the Brewers either, but he’s been deployed perfectly and I’m so happy to see him doing so well.

― frogbs, Friday, 16 October 2026 15:01 (two weeks ago)

“We adore our ’82 players,” Marti Wronski, the Milwaukee Brewers’ chief operating officer, said on Thursday night. “We celebrate them whenever we can.”

Wronski was 10 years old that fall, watching with her father at home in Neenah, Wisc., up near Oshkosh. Her favorite player, Robin Yount, did all he could in that World Series, hitting .414 to match the Milwaukee area code. When the St. Louis Cardinals won in seven games, the city still held a parade down Wisconsin Avenue. The Brewers had made them proud.

I don't get the logic of never challenging. The one reason you might do that is to get the umps on your side...which, with the challenge, doesn't matter.

His logic is apparently that it takes him out of the game, but one of the beat reporters said the team doesn’t like it (that he won’t use ABS). When they reported on this in August (with a quote from June):

Outfielder Chandler Simpson had issued only four challenges through Tuesday, none of which resulted in an overturn. Designated hitter Yandy Diaz has so far refused to make a challenge, occasionally giving the umpire an unsavory look but never tapping his helmet.
“I don’t like it,” Diaz said via interpreter Kevin Vera. “When I go to home plate, I need a hit, not a challenge. … Maybe in the World Series some time, but now, (no)."

I agree that this is a dumb stance, he’s got a great eye for the zone.

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Sunday, 18 October 2026 06:15 (two weeks ago)

this was the AB in question:

https://i.ibb.co/BK52zksd/Screenshot-2026-10-18-at-9-01-08-AM.png

runners on 2/3 and no outs in the top of the 7th of a 1-run ballgame in the CS.

that is a no-brainer from an analytics side but i do understand the mental focus of a gamer who needs to suppress anything that may interfere with their talent.

if his eye is great for the zone, then it would come in handy in a challenge here.

Yandy waking up and remembering he hates Cleveland is so good. Also he had another ball blatantly called a strike in his last AB which he didn’t challenge.

Messick early hook really hurt the Guards pen, but full credit to them they are fighting every single inning.

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Monday, 19 October 2026 00:03 (one week ago)

I've got a mild rooting interest for the Guardians (more a rooting interest against the Rays), but if the two teams with the best record in their league end up in the WS, I think that's a good thing.

Rays are obvs a better team on paper (98W) but Cleveland (85W) is doing the WC/Cinderella special and staying hot by playing long series and hopefully have not run out of gas. Cleveland is playing esp. well on the road which will make this St. Pete finale unpredictable. I think Rays take it.

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Monday, 19 October 2026 03:44 (one week ago)

a bold prediction

In series with the 2-3-2 format that have been tied 2-2, teams winning Game 5 on the road (before going home for Games 6-7) have gone on to take the series 21 of 28 times (75%)

― mookieproof, Monday, 19 October 2026 04:01 (one week ago)

FPeralta has been announced as Game 6 starter tomorrow, making his 9 pitches appearance yesterday a fairly notable bullpen session.

― imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Monday, 19 October 2026 04:16 (one week ago)

I agree with Shasta, the Rays are clearly the better team but there's a weird X factor about this Cleveland team. Guardians vs Brewers feels like a more dramatic series than Rays vs Brewers but history will be made either way.

― NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 19 October 2026 04:56 (one week ago)

looking at his stats trying to get an idea of what an analog might look like (outside of "fast!") and surprised at how few doubles he gets (15 this year, 16 last). and it's not like he's tuning them into triples (9 career total). i guess when you can take second base anytime you want (3/4 of the time), you don't have to push your luck.

Re Thermo's trivia I messed up above...I'd actually be more inclined to view it through the prism of cities, not franchises. When Toronto faced Atlanta in 1992, neither city had ever won a WS--and I doubt Milwaukee's WS win in 1957 meant a whole lot to people living in Atlanta at the time. Conversely, even though neither franchise this year has ever won one, I bet there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of people in their 70s and 80s living in Milwaukee who were kids when the Braves won in '57.

― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 October 2026 15:33 (one week ago)

it feels right for the Brewers to win, they've got that 2016 Cubs vibe imo, hope it's a fun series and Milwaukee fans aren't quite put through the same wringer Cubs fans were in G7 against Cleveland.
