For me, I would prefer the Rays win HOWEVER I would also really like a Brewers win, so I’m happy with either outcome. This is like the inverse of the argument I had with clemenza three years ago when he didn’t really like the 83 win Dbacks going so far, both teams have dominated over 162 and in the postseason. I love that one of them is going to be a first time winner! I love that both rosters have so much young talent and various old hands with experience and bit part guys and that they’re both difficult to beat with everything working!

― bruich, a stór (gyac), Tuesday, 20 October 2026 03:43 (one week ago)

This feels like Milwaukee's year, although TB looked really good against Cleveland, especially on defense. Still, I went with Brewers in 5.

Does this long layoff affect a hot team like the Brewers? I don't buy into it much myself, but 7 days is pretty significant.

someone (joe sheehan?) noted that playoff teams are like 5-10 coming off a long break, but i don't think that's predictive

I voted for Brewers in 7 (NL plus max drama) before I realized that a Rays win will cause max pain to Yankees fans.

i don't really think this is true? the sox or mets, sure, but i think yankee fans largely think of tampa as the home of steinbrenner field

― mookieproof, Friday, 23 October 2026 02:01 (five days ago)

I mean the Rays eliminated the Yankees handily this year, won the division and are division rivals? Like if you’re a Yankees fan you probably would prefer the NL team to win over the team that swept you?

― And the former was the Brew Crew, while the latter was the Rays; (gyac), Friday, 23 October 2026 08:33 (five days ago)

Quite fitting that if this WS goes to a game 7 it’ll be Halloween 👻

The Rays checked into The Pfister, the more famous of the two paranormal landmarks, on Wednesday. When the series shifts to Florida next week, the Brewers will be staying at The Vinoy.

“It’s the battle of the haunted hotels,” Rays outfielder Ryan Vilade said.

“It is a fair fight,” Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby said.

“If you want to talk about similarities for this whole series,” Rays pitcher Tyler Wells said, “you can add the hotels to the list.”

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7715640/2026/10/23/world-series-milwaukee-brewers-tampa-bay-rays-haunted-hotels/?unlocked_article_code=1.K1E.vb9a.ZeVfG3J2m6gn&source=user_shared_article&smid=ta-ios-share

The Pfister’s legend dates back to the death of Guido Pfister, the founder who passed away three months before the hotel opened in 1893. His son, Charles Pfister, is also believed to be a friendly ghost, moving within the walls. Some believe he’s acting on behalf of his Brewers fandom in tormenting the opposition that stays at the hotel, said Debbie Cobb, a sociologist at UNLV with an expertise in paranormal experiences and, specifically, The Pfister Hotel. She believes that the stories build on each other.

― frogbs, Friday, 23 October 2026 15:52 (five days ago)

Partly right: Yount (yay) and--why, why?--Selig.

Isn’t Selig a local (and indeed wasn’t the Pfister owned by him at some point?)

― And the former was the Brew Crew, while the latter was the Rays; (gyac), Friday, 23 October 2026 16:35 (five days ago)

I don't think we'd have baseball in Milwaukee without Selig, whatever you think of the guy otherwise he's a pretty important figure here

― frogbs, Friday, 23 October 2026 16:41 (five days ago)

I lay 99% of the blame on him for the PED debacle. I turned my head too and pretended not to notice. But I wasn't the commissioner.

― clemenza, Friday, 23 October 2026 17:34 (five days ago)

starting martinez against miz instead of rasmussen is kinda ancient chinese secret

In 340 BC Sun Bin, highly talented in military strategy, came as a refuge from the state of Qi from the state of Wei. Tian Ji was a military general in the state of Qi and one of his favorite pastimes was racing horses with the King, but Tian Ji lost every time. The rules were that they each got three races and three horses and that a new horse needed to be used in every race pitted against a new horse from an opponent. There were 3 classes of horses: slow, medium and fast. Being powerful as he is, King’s horses in each class were a bit better than Tian Ji’s. Sun bin observed this and advised Tian Ji on how to win: “Pit your slow horse against the King’s fast horse, your fast horse against the King’s medium horse, and your medium horse against the King’s slow horse.” In the first round Tian Ji lost, sacrificing his slow horse to eliminate the King’s fastest horse out of the race, since the King can’t use him twice. But Tians fast horse beat the King’s medium one and his medium horse beat the King’s slow horse and it was the first time he’d won this “battle”.

I've always loved the idea that, 150 years ago, the bases were almost pretenaturally set apart at exactly--exactly--the right distance of 90 ft. More proof: a minor stumble gets a fast runner thrown out at third on a sure-fire triple.

Some phenomenal quotes from the Athletics survey of baseball fans re this series:

“Finally, fun baseball again that isn’t the ‘three true outcomes.'” — Tigers fan

&

“Can’t complain the biggest market teams are on TV all the time and take all the sports talk oxygen, and then say a Brewers-Rays World Series sucks.” — Braves fan

“I cannot root for Milwaukee. Part of me thinks their fans deserve it, but then I remember they are most likely Packer fans, too.” — Cubs fan

lmao

“This is the first time in my life that I have seen the Brewers advance this far. I sat through a lot of really bad baseball in the late ’90s, 2000s, and 2010s with my dad. He took me to games because he probably didn’t know what else to do with this little wild child and now we are going to Game 2 together. Incredible how life works.”

🥺🥺🥺

“For just the third time in our nearly 30-year existence, the Rays are in the World Series. The first one was a total shocker; the second one has been asterisked to oblivion. This time, the vibes are through the (repaired) roof. Smoked the Yankees, took a punch and recovered against Cleveland. Legit young stars, new stadium on the horizon (knocks on every piece of wood within a 20-mile radius) and management who listens to the fans. This local stingray is in a great mood.”

I tend to miss stuff like this (Posnanski):

But in these playoffs — and already in this World Series — we are seeing another game.

And I think about these two facts.

Tampa Bay’s Chandler Simpson is hitting third in the World Series.

Tampa Bay’s Chandler Simpson has never hit a big-league home run.

This combination — a player with zero career home runs hitting third in the World Series — has happened before. Sure. You only have to go back to Chick Shorten...in 1916.

― clemenza, Saturday, 24 October 2026 15:36 (four days ago)

He’ll almost certainly never hit a big league home run. He managed one at spring training at Steinbrenner Field, MAYBE if he got very lucky at Yankee stadium. It’s funny as well cos it’s not like he’s a high on base merchant (.330 for his career) but their gamble is obviously if he gets on 1/3 of the time, he’ll cause havoc enough of the time that that’s why he hits that high in the order. I definitely blinked seeing him hit in front of Caminero though. I wonder if the idea is that he’ll upset the pitchers enough when he’s on base to cause a mistake to be thrown to one of the guys who can actually hit it out.

Looking at his splits, the sample size for him hitting third is too small to mean anything. He does hit very well out of the 5th (242 PA, .319) and 6th (161 PA, .333) spots; not nearly as well leading off (465 PA, .266). Seems pointless to talk about his OBA or SA.

Conclusion: everything I know is wrong, so I don't know anymore.

Here’s a video of him moonwalking

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fnYV96Iqw0

I’m always undecided as to whether I like leadoff Yandy or not. He’s not fast and really needs Aranda or Caminero behind him driving him in…but he’s a reliable obp guy, if Walls or whoever is hitting 9th bunts his way on he can drive them in, obviously doesn’t strike out much and hit for high average…to my mind he’s more a 2 hitter though

It’s going to down to position players pitching in game 4 after all these looooong innings. Everyone’s elbows will be pulled pork. Noodle bats vs noodle arms. That’s what happens when you’re not playing the Yankees or the Dodgers, no 3 pitch ks for quick innings. Everyone’s bunting, even the big slow guys.

They are, but against other teams that don’t usually grind out ABs like they do. Rays outfield has the best jumps in the league, Brewers generally solid defensively and then have that bullpen. I can understand that POV.

I know Murphy already made the lol Contreras pitbull analogy but honestly the whole Brewers lineup is like that scene in White Fang where he fights the bulldog, just relentlessly patient and grinding towards a slow death

I do think the lack of playoff experience is a real thing that’s showing now. Rays looking a bit shell shocked. I’ve seen them play dumb before but this is not how they usually go.

Both teams starters haven’t looked great, but the Brewers pen clearly benefited from that time off. Let the rust not rest whining finally die a death!

― 龜, Sunday, 25 October 2026 17:08 (three days ago)

through a stroke of luck I managed to grab a couple of pretty reasonable tickets to this one, man what a game, prob the best one I've seen live even discounting this being the World Series and all

scoring 2 in the bottom of the 1st was obviously huge, crowd was pretty shellshocked after the top of the inning but immediately got right back in it. crowd was on their feet pretty much the whole time, also the loudest I've ever heard the place by a wide margin. was so cool to see a whole bunch of ex-Brewers there, along with our one celebrity fan (Charlie Berens)

from where I was standing I thought Yandy held his swing, suffice to say it was a crazy rush of emotion when the crowd lit up like that. man, every game they seem like they're one swing away from losing it but it just doesn't happen. but even if they'd tied it I would've felt good about their chances. Milwaukee was clogging up the bases all night, they also were often one swing away from pulling away. there really is a team of destiny feeling here, everybody is contributing, even the players who have struggled are finding ways to come through, very much a team that makes you believe anything can happen

just two more to get

― frogbs, Sunday, 25 October 2026 18:03 (three days ago)

Friend of mine was at AFF for both games and what made me laugh was the reporting about how nice the local fans were - “they hardly booed us at all!” As someone who has attended exactly 4 MLB games (including a Phillies-Mets one in London), I can’t imagine that at all. You guys love your booing!

Jeff Passan reported the same, albeit via the medium of someone insulting him for his height on Twitter.

That down the line angle looks like he didn't swing, that overhead view seems like he did. It would have been interesting with the bases loaded to continue that game.

― timellison, Sunday, 25 October 2026 22:19 (three days ago)

I think that overhead shot in Tim's link is deceiving because it's not actually overhead--it's above and behind. I just don't see any intent to swing there.

― clemenza, Sunday, 25 October 2026 23:42 (three days ago)

ya, that's what i was going off of at first; but being a bit behind makes it look like he went further than he actually did

― FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 26 October 2026 01:59 (two days ago)

yea the overhead angle made it look like he crossed the plate, though I agree it didn't look like he ever really intended to swing, the fact that one was called but not Caminero's in the 9th of G1 is bizarre, different umps just view it differently I guess

yea I still can't believe it happened, I mean I've probably been to 50 games there which made it all the more surreal ...I've seen a lot of home runs but nothing like Frelick's game tying one, I've never seen a crowd go that bonkers. for sure something I'll remember forever, though obviously pretty important for them to finish the job :)

― frogbs, Monday, 26 October 2026 13:34 (two days ago)

with the way things have been going that might be the last game they play at AFF this year!

― 龜, Monday, 26 October 2026 13:49 (two days ago)

Key paragraph from Posnanski's post today (about the evolution of the "checked swing" concept):

Yandy Diaz did not strike at the ball. I have watched the pitch 100 times at full speed, and all 100 times I came to that exact same conclusion. If you just watch the swing in real time, at full speed, I simply don’t get how anyone could see it differently. He did not swing.

― clemenza, Monday, 26 October 2026 21:33 (two days ago)

can't read the full thing, does he weigh in on Caminero's check swing in G1 in the 9th that could've been a strikeout but was ruled a walk? because that looked like more of a swing than Yandy's did. maybe they both should've been walks.

― frogbs, Monday, 26 October 2026 21:44 (two days ago)

Doesn't mention it, no. For what it's worth, I'm just interested in this as an isolated event that just happened to end the game; it still would have been one run down, two out, man on first (I think--I didn't see it). I doubt it's something that's going to be remembered beyond this series.

― clemenza, Monday, 26 October 2026 22:02 (two days ago)

I'm wrong--tying run was on third, right? Anyway, it's not exactly Don Denkinger-level.

― clemenza, Monday, 26 October 2026 22:04 (two days ago)

― clemenza, Monday, 26 October 2026 22:29 (two days ago)

It was man on first and third, so the walk would have been bases loaded. Though the batter would not have been Yandy.

I thought in real time that the furthest point of the bat was a swing. He definitely jerked it back quickly!

― timellison, Monday, 26 October 2026 23:07 (two days ago)

this is going to be an unpopular opinion but i think if you put your bat out there such that it can make contact with the ball and it does not make contact with the ball then it's a strike. otherwise every single missed bunt attempt should be called a ball

― Tracer Hand, Monday, 26 October 2026 23:34 (two days ago)

furthermore the fact that the pitcher got you so crossed up that you tried to swing but then decided not to at the last second is an accomplishment by the pitcher and should be recorded as such

If the Brewers do manage to sweep, I think you may have to start looking at them historically: 103 wins in a very tough league, blows away everyone (including the defending WS winners). And clearly, based on the past few years, it's not a fluke.

― clemenza, Tuesday, 27 October 2026 15:45 (yesterday)

They were never a fluke. They were just a team that couldn’t get over the hump. The reasons that they’re winning now are the reasons they’ve been good for years: pitching, tough ABs, resilience, Not Trying To Do Too Much. The postseason exposes and their tactic is pressure pressure pressure and it’s been hugely successful this year. It’s the strategy, it’s the execution and it’s the personnel too.

i think the brewers basically solved this era of major league baseball. the dodgers' money was able to obscure that for a few years, but MLB insider types have been saying for years that the brewers are the most admired organization in baseball, and that prophecy has proved thunderously true this year. to clemenza's point teams in any sport that sweep a conference championship series and then sweep or come close to sweeping the title series are usually some of the best teams a sport has ever seen. i don't think these brewers will be seen that way in baseball history but i do think that for this like driveline computer aided pitching & hitting laboratory, young controllable depth version of MLB this brewers team is the juggernaut and is proving it

from watching stearns try to replicate (and maybe succeed? jury's still out) this with the mets, here's how i break down the brewers approach:

-number one, the trait the brewers build around is athleticism, particularly speed
-on defense, a speedy and rangy outfield will take away extra base hits, reduce slug, reduce BABIP. brewers don't hide slow sluggers away in the outfield like the yankees or mets do... aka "run prevention"
-speedy and good defense also goes a long way towards masking an average pitcher (not saying the brewers pitchers are average, but you see how it helps)
-on offense, speed puts pressure on the pitchers/catchers to prevent steals, speed reduces double plays, increases chances of scoring on shallow outfield hits, etc.

-number two, brewers prioritize contact over lifting/pulling the ball (which every other club does to slug)
-this increases the chances of getting on base (whereby speed leads to more steals/pressuring the defense etc. as noted above)
-this can also wear out pitchers, as seen in the NLCS, 10 pitch at bats and so forth

-number three, brewers have jacbo misiorowski
-kind of a fluke that he fell into their lap, but hey all things are coming up brewers

― 龜, Tuesday, 27 October 2026 17:20 (yesterday)

-number one, the trait the brewers build around is athleticism, particularly speed

also shorter players. eno sarris put a graph up about this on twitter recently. chourio, turang, frelick, mitchell, joey ortiz, luis lara... he's not on the team this year obv but caleb durbin also. the fact that jett williams was the main return for peralta. baseball in general has shifted towards the idea that shorter, more compact players can provide contact, defensive versatility *and* enough power to be really potent (i.e. kevin mcgonigle) and the brewers really lean heavily into that style of player

-number two, brewers prioritize contact over lifting/pulling the ball (which every other club does to slug)

citing eno sarris again here but something that's interesting about the brewers is that they let the ball travel further towards the hitter than any team in baseball. like you say they go more for line drives & hitting the ball the other way over lifting/pulling and that shows up statistically in a number of ways, but they also have guys like mitchell and frelick who are serious athletes and can access their power enough

-number three, brewers have jacbo misiorowski

certainly somewhat of a fluke but miz was a pretty controversial prospect bcuz the stuff & results were always there in short stints but all the prospect rankers underrated him because of what was perceived to be extreme reliever risk. so you do have to give the brewers credit for their development w/ him to get him to the point where the stuff plays extremely consistently across full outings. people simply didn't think that was going to happen. and when you see what they do w/ pitchers like kyle harrison who aren't good for multiple orgs & then the brewers immediately shift the pitch mix and the guy is all of a sudden great it's clear that their pitching development is at the top of the game

freddy peralta really provides a clear example of the difference between the brewers, rays and the well moneyed but less successful franchises insofar as he has been amazing for both of those franchises and completely awful for the mets. the rays changed his pitch mix and w/in two starts he was back to pitching like a borderline cy young candidate

― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 October 2026 17:36 (yesterday)

re: brewers pitching, i think they have great development but i don't want to underestimate how good their defense makes their pitchers look. peralta came over to the mets and immediately started nosediving when the defense behind him stunk it up. move him to the rays and he's good again. giving the opposition extra outs and hits will expose pitchers esp those who pitch to contact

xp!

DL Hall would have been a better example. The Orioles couldn’t do a thing with Hall and he was a throw-in for the Corbin Burnes rental. That would require less known players to be something other than an inaccurate punchline to you, though.

It’s definitely cool that they won the pennant. I think they are a fun team and quite good. It was admittedly a weird year where the AL seemed to not be that great on the whole. There are probably a number of NL teams that could have had a competitive series against them.

this year's dodgers really remind me of the 2003-2004 lakers - the team with a 40 year old karl malone and 35 year old gary payton. on paper great, still had two stars in their prime, got greedy by adding on malone/payton, seen as very unfair by the rest of the league, then completely outclassed by a young athletic pistons team that was just built different

Cubs having Steele and Horton back should make a big difference, plus Ben Brown. love Shota but he wasn't enough obv and the rest of that staff is just replacement parts.

― omar little, Tuesday, 27 October 2026 17:52 (yesterday)

I suppose so, though the fact that only two teams in the whole game (Brewers and Dodgers) had more wins makes me doubt this. NL’s ceiling might have been higher but there were just as many easy pickings dregs at the bottom of the league (Rockies, Giants, Reds, Mets) to statpad off. You play the games in front of you.

I also think this is a somewhat recency biased narrative given that games 1 & 2 were so close and ruined by Rays self-clownery, it’s not like all the games were blowouts.

i mean, kyle harrison put up more WAR this year than DL hall has in his career & was one of the best pitchers in the NL before he hurt his arm. the brewers targeted him in a trade & instantly turned his career around, he's a perfectly representative example of the quality of their front office pitching laboratory. a SP pitching prospect like hall who falters and becomes a serviceable middle reliever is far more ordinary, that kinda thing happens across baseball. how impressed are you that the astros and royals were able to get 0.2 WAR out of nate pearson this season? what happened w/ kyle harrison is actually far more rare. you're obsessed w/ me which is fine but at least come correct <3

two things that stuck out last night. first of all Yelich taking 2nd during the top of the 5th. it was close, obviously it had to be reviewed and overturned for him to be safe, but I remember hearing this is something Milwaukee practices constantly...getting the right lead, timing the jump perfectly...if Yeli hadn't gotten it exactly right none of those 2 out hits would've happened. it would have stayed 2-0, they would've put different relievers in, then who knows??

secondly, how quick and decisive Contreras was challenging pitches. he used ABS the most of any catcher in the league by far, and though he didn't have a particularly good success rate (58%) I think you'd rather have that then something in the 70%+ range, because it's still better to challenge one that's a longshot than it is to end the game with a challenge in your pocket. but I think there are other benefits as well, I think it's good for the pitcher's mental state to know your catcher is willing to stick his neck out for you like that, plus I think it hones a new skill for the catcher, since in the past it didn't matter if they thought it was a ball or strike. Contreras has actually gotten really good at it in the playoffs, could be luck or maybe it's something he's worked on all year. but its just another one of those small things that they do well.

I also think this is a somewhat recency biased narrative given that games 1 & 2 were so close and ruined by Rays self-clownery, it’s not like all the games were blowouts.

ya I mean if the Brewers finish it off they'll deserve the praise but the reality is every single game outside of last night was extremely close. Padres lost one game where a would-be HR (maybe) hit a support beam, one where Miller uncharacteristically blew a save w/ 2 outs, and one where Machado came within a few inches of a game-tying homer. Dodgers were ahead in every game until they weren't, and had the tying run in scoring position so many times to no avail. Rays were a hit away from taking the lead in the 9th in game 1 and had the tying run at 3rd in game 2 only to lose on that checked swing. this is not to say everything has gone the Brewers way, they've had to battle through a lot as well and have had moments of sloppy infield defense, but they've bounced back (nearly) every time. but they've gotten more breaks for them than against them which sometimes is the main things that matters. they sure has hell have gotten eliminated a lot in years past when that goes the other way.

― frogbs, Tuesday, 27 October 2026 18:34 (yesterday)

It’s unreal that they went from being swept by the Dodgers to sweeping them right back the following year in such a demonstrative fashion especially with all the comebacks from being down and the Dodgers adding Skubal and Tucker. The mental side of this cannot be understated. Cf that article about Yelich I linked either here or the CS thread and all that postseason disappointment he’s endured plus having a bad season this year. Lot of ingredients that make up this team’s greatness.

for sure! putting up 1.3 WAR w/ as a reliever w/ 13 wins and 4 saves is a really unique statline, i think we may look back at ashby in a few years as a canary in the coal mine of pitcher stats. if you put sandy alcantara's final week of the season aside, antonio senzatela was the only other player this year who had double digit wins on the season and more than one save, but i think we're gonna see more stat lines that look like this moving forward

bomani jones & howard bryant did a podcast recently about the 90s braves and during that discussion bryant mentioned that if you ever talked to hank aaron one thing he would say is that the milwaukee braves of the mid to late 50s would be remembered as one of the great dynasties in MLB history had they been able to beat the yankees in the 1958 world series. in the eight seasons from 1953, when they moved to milwaukee, through 1960 they finished first in the NL twice, 2nd five times, and third once, and won the 57 series over the yankees. but they lost to them in the 58 series after being up 3-1, and, per bryant, aaron believed that blowing that series rendered the braves of the 50s as a footnote in history, rather than being remembered as the franchise that beat the peak mantle era yankees in back to bak world series. not sure if frogs is old enough to remember *that* but maybe i'm hearing clemenza's music...?

born in '86...but they are *the* classic Brewer team, so I know a lot about them. a know a number of people who grew up watching them and it's always fun to hear their stories. funny to think one day I'm gonna be an old guy reminiscing about Sal Frelick. anyway, the team that was most important to me was the Braun/Fielder crew that hit tons of HRs...the year we picked up Grienke and Marcum was the year I thought we were gonna win it all. losing to the Cards in 6 was a real punch in the gut since that was the last year with Fielder, who was a fan favorite here for pretty obvious reasons

Wait till you hear my opinion about who choked in games 1 & 2! Such weird revisionism about that. They weren’t all blowouts!

The number of errors and strikeouts on both sides says a lot. Nervy game!

gyac, I was referring only to the bottom of the 12th in yesterday's game. Regardless of the other games, the Brewers were three outs from the championship and blew it.

If we want to talk about other games, then I agree that TB could have, and perhaps should have, won either G1 or G2. If the Rays had won G4 as they did, to tie the series 2-2 rather than being down 3-1, then it would instantly down as one of the biggest, WS-swinging comebacks ever. And it still might! We'll see.

― And the former was the Brew Crew, while the latter was the Rays; (gyac), Wednesday, 28 October 2026 11:00 (eleven hours ago)

they're gonna need Miz to go 6 tonight. feel like he can do it, just can't be throwing wild and ratcheting up his pitch count like he did vs SD and LA. not really sure what TB is planning to do tonight. surely they can't throw Rasmussen out there..?

― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 12:59 (nine hours ago)

I was in Toronto for Marshall Crenshaw last night, but was able to catch the game on the radio from the 11th on. Conflicting impulses: 1) I kind of wanted the game to keep going for the duration of the two-hour drive home; 2) I mostly wanted the Brewers to win and not let Tampa Bay back into the series. I have this weird way of looking at a 3-1 series as almost tied: the Rays are one win away from maybe winning the game that forces a G7; 3) there was a small part of me, because I've missed almost the entire series, that wanted the Rays to keep things going so I can actually watch some of this. Which is what happened--I'm pretty clear to watch whatever's left now. Still really want the Brewers to win, and I think they will: Mis (tonight and, if it comes to that, maybe available for a couple of innings in a G7), home-field advantage, and, uh, the baseball Gods. Because they never allow an unjust result to happen--well, hold on a minute there.

― clemenza, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:13 (nine hours ago)

if you're a Wisconsin sports fan you are used to things slipping away in the playoffs right when you think you have them. the amount of soul-crushing playoff losses we've endured, especially with the Brewers...its hard not to feel the dooming right now. my nerves have been wracked from this entire playoff run, outside of Monday there hasn't been a single easy one...but it's also been awesome, since they've won almost all of them. not sure if I can take this going into the weekend!!!!

― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:30 (nine hours ago)

everyone calling out Drohan right now, idk....I think it's more on Ortiz for the bad throw and Bauers for not picking it. the very next batter shot one up the middle which would've just been a routine grounder if they weren't at double play depth. so instead of no one on and 2 outs it's runners at the corners, no outs. that's a really tough situation for a rookie pitcher, in a title-clinching game no less...wouldn't really expect him to be sharp there. if Ortiz makes a good throw I think they win it. oh well.

― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:33 (nine hours ago)

3 outs away from a world series, they should have thrown miz imo

― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, October 27, 2026 1:03 PM (yesterday)

jonny deluca, who hit the game tying rbi that saved tampa bay's season? that jonny deluca? :)

― 龜, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:41 (nine hours ago)

i figure the brewers calculus is that they have too much pitching for tampa bay and tampa bay's soft white underbelly of a bullpen will continue to be exposed. also burning nick martinez probably figured into it, the rays now have no good options for game 5

― 龜, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:42 (nine hours ago)

not sure if you can just warm up Miz for emergency relief like that, he's never done it in his career before, but yeah I was thinking the same as soon as Coop hit the HR. go for the kill!!

― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:49 (nine hours ago)

3 outs away from a world series, they should have thrown miz imo

I disagree, I like the confidence by Murphy that even if G4 gets away, a sweep would have been nice but it's not necessary, they have the tools to take 1 of the last 3.

― be dang if it aint (WmC), Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:50 (nine hours ago)

miz has looked somewhat shaky as a starter, i predict he's gonna get lit up tonight, rays are gonna stitch together a win from their bullpen, rasmussen's gonna be lights out in game 6 and this series is going 7 yeah baby!

― 龜, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 13:52 (eight hours ago)

up 3-1 with the best pitcher in baseball going in game 5 is a good place to be

― (•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 28 October 2026 14:09 (eight hours ago)

not really sure what Tampa Bay's plan is tonight given they used Martinez last night....is he going to be good to go tonight for a few innings? surely they won't throw Rasmussen with his bad elbow out there? what other options do they have?

as crushing as last night was, what I wanted coming into TB is to win at least one and to burn through their pen as much as possible. their pen had to pitch 13 innings in the last 2 games including burning the next game's starter. So I guess if you'd told me where we'd be a couple days ago I'd be feeling pretty good.

― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 14:34 (eight hours ago)

There were choices other than Miz to get three outs - Gasser, Henderson, Woodruff?

― timellison, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 14:39 (eight hours ago)

Henderson and Gasser pitched games 2 and 3. Woody might've been a decent option, but who knows how good he actually feels. Personally I would've just left Senzatela in. I believe in Drohan but he's pitched only one inning in the last month and he wasn't exactly sharp. Again...if Bauers makes the pick I think it's a different story

― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 14:49 (eight hours ago)

Mis last night crossed my mind, but only for a few seconds. Put him in and it doesn't work out, then you really might have a problem. Six innings tonight, and then maybe availability for a G7 is much smarter.

― clemenza, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 14:49 (eight hours ago)

I guess my thought is it’s only one inning. Gasser and Henderson probably did throwing yesterday.

― timellison, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 14:51 (eight hours ago)

Maybe it wasn’t in the cards for any of them, though, and they’ve obviously got a lot of opportunity still to finish it off. In a way, it’s cool to get someone like Drohan involved given he’s part of the team and if he’d finished it off, it would have been incredible.

― timellison, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 15:11 (seven hours ago)

― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 28 October 2026 16:32 (six hours ago)

ya I mean it wasn't inevitable that Drohan was going to blow it. he got ground balls. his pitching after the first 2 reached wasn't great but all our relievers got away with meatballs here and there. people also talking about how our 1-5 let the team down but all of them save for Contreras was hitting the ball hard all night. Rays made some crazy plays in the outfield. also I think two of those balls would've been HRs in Milwaukee. that's baseball!!

they don't really have another option but Milwaukee has got to be one of the worst teams to do this against, they're taking so many pitches and I don't think any starters have gone deep against them these playoffs. closest was Snell I think.

― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 October 2026 21:31 (one hour ago)

Yep, Snell six innings. Michael King, Tarik Skubal, and Nick Martinez each went five.
