I don't know if I have the authority to start at new ILB Fantasy thread or if that's a right reserved by the mod, but I'm starting one anyway. The old one was loading slow on my TRS-80 here at home.

I gots nothin' to say, just start posting ILB Fantasy league stuff here now.

boldbury (boldbury), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Cliff Lee looks pretty good. He's got a great record, a decent ERA, he's a got the heart by beaning Griff for masturbating on the field, and in most leagues, he's still just sitting there in open waivers.

What would anyone say about picking up Jerry Hairston, Jr. from Baltimore or Juan Castro from Cincy?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno - I drafted Lee in the 9th round, but cut bait sometime in late May (I think) because those walks were scaring me (and even if he's pitched fantastically at times, that WHIP's gonna bite him in the ass more often than not).

Hairston = sure, but he won't get PT as an Oriole; Castro = only Red I'd avoid more is Felipe Lopez

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

what about streaky mo pena?

j.q. higgins, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I appreciate the advice on Hairston and Castro. It's always weird to see two guys sitting there with .300 averages, and no one's giving them the time of day. I know they've had some DL time, but hell.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i say hairston's worth a flutter. i'm an o's guy, but watching the o's a lot, mazzilli's making a commitment to get the guy in the lineup any way possible. this is also good for his position eligibility.

brent: do you know anything about this newhan guy? he's atearing it up in mel mora's stead and i think the o's got him from tx.

j.q. higgins, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

MRF:
i meant to send comments with that response, but effed it up.

amounting to: it's an interesting offer... i'd want to think a day or two about it, maybe counter, but i'm off on vacation for a week. let's talk then...

the leglo (the leglo), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha - took me a sec to realize you were talking to me and not making some dissenting dismissive noise. I can wait a week, s'cool.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm looking to deal players. any interest in mackowiak, shea hillenbrand, russ ortiz or millwood?

looking for saves and hlds...homers would be nice, too.

j.q. higgins, Thursday, 1 July 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm looking to trade an infielder* for an outfielder.

*2B-SS-3B

Hit me up!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 1 July 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i want pudge + the studs to reply to my trade offer¡

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 1 July 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got Barry Larkin and he is available. The Mets Ty Wiggington will be available as soon as Chipper Jones gets the nod to be play at 3b, which should be sometime in the next day or two. Wiggington can be play at 2b and 3b.

earlnash, Thursday, 1 July 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

god forbid he get any run support, johan santana is looking AWESOME in his last 5 starts. yes, he's given up his mandatory homerun, but 12Ks/2BBs across 8 innings is an incredible 51K/6BB ratio over his last 5 starts = 8.50K/BB.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 1 July 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
frank thomas, luis gonzalez and roy halladay:
the dysabled parade of pain continues.

next time i do fantasy baseball i'm thinking of a name that does not invite so much ironic torment.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm flirting with disaster baby," sez Pronounced Dead manager.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a good general manager, I just blame the players.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the Giambi principle - your player's team scores 12 runs - you think "oh, my guy musta been in on that" only to discover that somehow in the midst of that game he went 0 for 3 with a walk.

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

be glad he got a walk.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm now #2
thanks to pujols going OFF
(watch today's oh-fer)

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

that must've been the best offensive performance of the year.

giambi has turned into year-of-retirement big mac only without the home runs.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(hint hint, jason)

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone want to trade teams? I will entertain all offers.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

really¿ even a team with it's 1st 5 picks total write off's¿ even a team that has lost it's entire (save 1) original pitching staff¿

a trade's commin' yer way¡

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

oh balls¡ yahoo keeps telling me it's "uneven trade" :(

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooops sorry, I was in my IF WE'RE NOT IN FIRST PLACE, WE'RE NOTHING mode. I often forget how it is for you cellar folk.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Thursday, 22 July 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

In one of the great managerial blunders of all time my starting roster sat the bench while winning three games. Heads will roll.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 22 July 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm self destructing. I neglected to start Wells. That's four wins in two days I've missed out on. Time to hire an intern.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 23 July 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Meanwhile I just keep
rollin' up on you Tamil,
Kerry Wood is back

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 24 July 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, so quantrill, when he pitches 2 innings every single game, gets fatigued and pitches poorly?? i would never have imagined! thanks joe you fucking idiot!

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 24 July 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, this is...unbelievable. ly stupid. i'm speechless.

[above commentary on bringing in felix heredia to pitch to david ortiz and then LEAVING HIM IN to face manny after he walks the bases loaded]

[sorry i know this isn't a vent thread but i've gotta, i just gotta]

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 24 July 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

quantrill's on my team,
this bodes ill for E.R.A.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 24 July 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR GODDAMN FANTASY TEAM GODDAMMIT I"M PISSED OFF> STOP BEING RELEVANT

proctor strikes out nomar swinging. gee, i wonder if he should've been brought in, like, 4 runs ago.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 24 July 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously i don't think i've ever been this emotional about a single game, possibly ever. maybe game 7 last year.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 24 July 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

rivera's got nothing. not throwing strikes, hard hit balls all over the place.

i almost called a mo blown save a couple innings ago, dammit, at least then i could've gotten some satisfaction out of this.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 24 July 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, game over. i'm gonna go shoot myself now.

here's some words and phrases i'll loan to the press corp first: turning point, resolve, cowboy up all over again, blahblahblah i want to die

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 24 July 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, it's a good thing I didn't tune in until the 5th. Otherwise, I would be all sorts of goofin'. As it stands, I'm going to abstain from any catchphrasing or woo-hooing, at least until I get some details (& learn which BoSoxxers are getting suspended). John, tho, you're sounding a little Soxy right there - isn't your team the one with the insurmountable lead?

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 24 July 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

more bad news for all you riding cliff lee's jock... eek.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw that the other night and I actually took a screen shot of it 'cuz I figured it was just some late night stringer having fun and I was SURE they'd change it, but nope it's still up there.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

the guy who's in charge of that stuff is in my other fantasy league. he posted it on our board to show off.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It works on so many levels.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds like somthing David R. Popshots would say.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 29 July 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

What I can't stand is that Beg's always at the top of the rankings. He's the Yankees of ILx fantasy leagues! BREAK UP THE STARFIGHTERS.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Thursday, 29 July 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

B, you still owe us The Ballad of To Saguchi - where is it?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 29 July 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Does that mean the tamil tigers have finally fallen? And why doesn't Dave Popshots go for my captain caveman offer?

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm mullin' it over, sir.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

A. I am NOT always at the top. I was #1 for exactly two days, and have spent most of the season at #7, even though 50% of my position players were all-stars, because my pitching is for shit. I will entertain all offers for a great-to-prolific closer for Lyle Overbay.

B. I am working on my Taguchi piece. I have currently rhymed "Taguchi" with "cuchi-cuchi" and "Gucci."

C. I don't think there's any way I can catch Lawrence Kansas.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

The chick on Fox Sports Radio in the afternoon has been using the phrase "That is SO Taguchi" lately.

EX.

Co-host: The Yankees are looking to pick up Randy Johnson. Don't you just hate it that they can go out and get whoever they want.

Chick: Oh, the is so taguchi.

Co-host: Huh?

boldbury (boldbury), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Herges is prolific!

(And I just wanted to be petulant because I seem to top out at 4th place all the time.)

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah and he's also horrible, which is why I dropped him.

(And yeah, I'm still 20 points behind our fearless leader. Fight the real enemy!)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

omg, if you were watching espn just a minute ago, as they were cutting to break they showed loaiza sneezing into his glove/on the ball! way to use your cold to your advantage esteban! (i'm sure jorge was happy too)

(...unfortunately, it didn't quite work out for him, as the a's jack the ball all over the park and take a 4-2 lead. but spitballs are always cool)

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(ok apparently it was just him swearing into the glove after he gave up byrnes' HR. @#$%!.) he went 6 IP 4 ER, so...i guess he did his job, by the yanks thinking.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 5 August 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

amusing quote slightly related to one of ilb's fantasy enigmas:

Bill Scheft, Sports Illustrated: "The Rockies say they will only accept legitimate prospects for starter Shawn Estes. Legitimate prospect. What does that mean, the scout who signed him has to be married?"

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

my pitching is imploding v3.0

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

so all the focus on the yankees health problems have been on the SP, but of the big three on offense:

sheffield: bum shoulder, needs surgery
giambi: benign tumor, out for year?
a-rod: bum leg for the season, can't run/field/hit as before

this team is not that good.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

A-Rod is playing hurt? Since when?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know! i just found out about it watching the game. they talked about how it's hobbling him on the basepaths and in the field, and he's had to work w/ mattingly on changing his stance. i don't know if it's very recent or what, i have no idea what brought it on or anything.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Thursday, 12 August 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Begs2, I've got a surfeit of relievers. I'd be willing to swing a deal but I'm not sure who you'd want to give up. It seems like all your starters are too good to trade for a reliever! So I don't know. I could use a 3B myself though. Then again, since we're both fighting it out in the upper reaches of the standings, swinging a trade might feel like "trading within the division." But maybe we can work something out.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Thursday, 12 August 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

This job's really getting in the way of my fantasy productivity. I should quit.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Injuries and poor performance have pretty much ended my chances of winning the league. I would be in good shape if Chavez, Chipper Jones and Barry Zito played to their old form. If I taken Rolen, Mulder and Moises Alou, all of which I could have had instead, I would probably be close to winning the the League. Mike Hampton also stunk it up real bad in the first half until I dumped him.

I messed up not getting a closer in the draft and I am so far back in saves that I can't make it up. I did make a couple of good later draft choices in Carl Pavano, K-Rod and found a good 2b in Rockies rookie Aaron Miles on the scrap heap.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, I saw the start where Jared Wright turned it around in Atl against the White Sox and picked him up. Other than one start against the Orioles, he has done quite well.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

If my middle relievers hadn't all decided to spit the bit at the same time (i'm looking at you Riedling, Miceli, and F-Rod)(although F-Rod appears to be back on track in his new surroundings) - thus killing my WHIP and ERA - I'd be in first place. Ah, the price we pay for holds.

Begs, I hit you back...

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

got it, and I'll think about Cabrera like really quickly. i'm still waiting to see if anyone else bites on my one-on-one trades today. but if not (and maybe even if!), we'll swing this.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 19 August 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the good word on Cinci's Felipe Lopez? Are they finding him consistent playing time with Larkin making a last(?) push?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 19 August 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, this doesn't deserve its own thread: you know the analyst's stand-by, that when a pitcher starts walking batters, the defense behind him starts to get sloppy because they aren't involved in the action. What about a pitcher who starts mowing guys down with SOs? The rest of the team, aside from the catcher, isn't really in the thick of things either.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 19 August 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i've heard it said in that case as well.

*checks boxscore*

Aw, hell Begs2 - that's not so bad; you got a vulture win!! I was fearing some kind of 5 ER 0.1 IP meltdown. I'll give up 1 earned in an inning to gain a win EVERY damn time. Wins are hard to get!! Think about how often you'll have a starter cruise through like 7 strong, only to give way to some no-count middle reliever who blows the game. Naw, man, I'll trade a save for a win any day. Even that 1 earned doesn't hurt much at this point in the season. There are so many innings pitched at this point that it takes a real meltdown to affect your team ERA.

Perhaps you know all that; i understand your goal was to trade for SAVES. But I wouldn't scoff at a cheap win. I dunno. I didn't think it was a "panic" type trade. Hell, you've since passed me in the standings!!

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Friday, 20 August 2004 04:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't think it was a panic trade either until I realized that I am still checking the Florida standings every day hoping that Cabrera's tanked it. Plus I have wins aplenty I NEED SAVES. Plus I have Oliver Perez in my other league and I really need wins over there too.

My pitching selection has been awful this year. Injuries yes, but no excuse for some of my moves.

Oh and speaking of meltdowns...ladies and gennelmen...Mr. PAUL QUANTRILL, ALSO ON MY DAMN TEAM>

Earl Nash (earlnash), Monday, 20 September 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

my pitchers have apparently gone on strike for the rest of the season. i'm in 3rd today, i figure i'll wind up 5th or 6th for the season.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 20 September 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate my team and want Odalis Perez to die and / or GET SOME RUN SUPPORT. Also, Rafael Furcal can suck deez donuts.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 20 September 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

What's wrong with Furcal (besides the jailtime)?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 20 September 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I traded Furcal away because a) he wasn't hitting as well as I liked and b) he wasn't stealing for sheeit. So I swapped him & Jason Bay for Jose Reyes (riding bnw's bench) & Octavio Dotel. Sure enough, Reyes goes gonzo on the basepaths despite having a FRACTURE, which, ultimately, puts him on the shelf (and how in holy hell does one go A MONTH without having a fracture diagnosed? I HATE THE METS). Meanwhile, Furcal, free to drink & scout poon & snort blow & cause a ruckus away from the straightlaced chicanery of the MRF clubhouse, decides to steal something like 29,384 bases in the following month while hitting like Baby Bonds. Meanwhile, his double-play partern, Mr. Marcus Giles, decides to shit the bed, presumably because there's no room on the Braves to have two good-hitting speedy middle infielders; clearly one must suck so the other can thrive. I HATE THE BRAVES!

Also, Jason Marquis can take a long walk off a short pier holding 35 copies of all Bill James books. Nyeah.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I pulled Matt Clement (as well as CC Sabathia) into my fantasy clubhouse and had "the talk" with the two of them.

I'm almost maxed out on innings so I'm going for a 4 man rotation for the balance of the season:

Johan Santana, Orlando "EL DUQUE" Hernandez, Rodrigo Lopez, and the recently acquired Bartolo Colon who is looking really nice for a waiver acquisition (top 50 player in the league for the past month).

Relievers are: Eric Gagne, Brad Lidge, Dustan Hermanson, Danny Graves and an LA pitcher with the catchy name of Yhency "Strickler" Brazoban.

Remind me why I'm in 8th place in this league? Oh yeah, because my offense suck's donkeynards (aside from Edmonds, Derrek Lee and Mike Cameron).

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"the talk"

Now CC, Matty, there comes a time in every boy's life...

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 20 September 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

...when you must be led behind the barn and shot at pointblank.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 20 September 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Gygax!, you and I have the opposite problems. My pitching is the dog's dinner, but I have so much offense it hurts. My team is so bad-ass that I traded away Miguel Cabrera and picked Placido Polanco and didn't miss a beat. On the other hand I think I have like four wins this month. GRRRRR.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I rank top 6 in total hits, yet my OPS is 7th worst. More like Pronounced Ichiro!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm almost maxed out on innings"

You can max out on innings? It seems that my wins are not being added anymore, is this the reason? Wright's win last week didn't seem to be added into my total.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

1250 is the inning ceiling.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Earl, you have indeed maxed out in pitching:

http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/53801/2/positioncaps

according to our league's settings, you have 1250 innings to pitch during the season.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

My four man rotation cleans you suckers out.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Taking sides - gygax!'s 4 man rotation vs. LEEE's 4 man rotation:

gygax!
Johan Santana
Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez
Bartolo Colon
Rodrigo Lopez

Leee
Randy Johnson
Tim Hudson
Brett Tomko
Noah Lowry

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Nash-- Justified & Ancient Starters
Carl Pavano
Greg Maddux
Jaret Wright
Tom Glavine
Barry Zito

Oddly enough Zito is the dog of the bunch.

Criminy, I would have been resting starters if I knew I would max out of innings three weeks to go in the season (esp. Zito and Cliff Lee in the 2nd half).

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess my pitching won't get any worse, except that people might catch me in wins and Ks.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Step off, smuckers!

MRF Rotation of DOOOOOOOM:
Curt Schilling
Brian Lawrence
Zack Grienke
Vincente Padilla
Odalis P-Rez and his Godawful Luck
Adam Eaton

3rd in wins, 2nd in K/BB ratio, 1st in HRs allowed. Suck on that, Ornaldo! ONLY 50+ POINTS BEHIND WOOT

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

BALCO The Moon:
Wins: 3rd with 77 (MRF is actually 2nd with 78, LameDuckNash stuck at 79)
Strikeouts: 1st (1,179 almost 200 above the nearest competitor)
ERA: 1st (3.47)
WHIP: 1st (1.21)
Strikeouts/BB: 3rd @ 2.98 (MRF = 3.00, Tamil Tigers an amazing = 3.23)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I was glad that someone passed me for the dingers allowed. I pretty much ruled that in the first 2/3rds of the season.

The lack of a closer the first half of the season sunk my battleship. I'm a Jose Mesa away from winning the league.

If Eric Chavez hadn't missed 35 games, he probably would be the AL MVP. Chipper Jones was a gimp the first half of the season. My hitting has been pretty good, although I don't measure to high in OBP war, so I suppose my team isn't very Sabermetric.

I'm not too disapointed in how I have done, this the first year I have done fantasy baseball.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

no way, I thought I had first in homers allowed locked! (we should do a "who's worst" league next year.)

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

My homers allowed started evening out once I gave Mike Hampton the heave ho about half way through the season. Of course, he won like seven straight decisions or something in the past few weeks...it figures.

I can't diss Leo M., I picked up Jaret Wright off the scrap heap and outside of one or two starts, he has been quite good.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Pish posh gygax -- back when my Colon was Fartoloing my rotation, I effectively had THREE starters.

But yet!

6th in Ws
3rd in Ks
3rd in ERA
2nd in WHIP
4th in K/BB

AND. Even with the Bartolo Home Run Experience, I've still allowed the second fewest dingers. EAT MY HOLDS.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 27 September 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

League standings going into final weekend. It looks like the Kings have everything wrapped up, but it is going to be tight from then on out.

1 Kings of Oblivion 275
2 Nash Ramblers 256.5
3 Pronounced Miller 254.5
4 Tamil Tigers 252.5
5 precision ottos 247.5
6 Texas Metrosexuals 246.5
7 The Starfighters! 239.5
8 Monkey Robot Fun 232
9 BALCO The Moon 230.5
10 My Bobby Valentine 224.5
11 caveman pups 222.5
12 Shorty You Phat 206.5
13 Pudge & the Studs 184
14 Diamond Anarchybots 176
15 The Ex-Beaus 168
16 the dysabled 160.5
17 The Remaindermen 151
18 St. Kilda Bouncers 132
19 Le Fannies 130.5

Having my pitching run out of innings with two and half weeks to go has hurt me a few points, as I have lost ground in wins and Ks. It probably should be 1450 innings, instead of 1250. I guess I will read the rules next time. Definitely need to get a closer in the draft.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Friday, 1 October 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

well don't worry about the whole 'closer in the draft' thing because sometimes you can draft someone like billy wagner and he can miss half a season and then you do things like trade miguel cabrera for jose table because you're desperate and it still doesn't help

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 1 October 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, things are looking pretty good. But I'll count no chickens before they're hatched. I've seen certain teams put up those overnight +11 spots these last few weeks. But BEgs, honestly I think I'd still have a sizable lead right now with or without that trade. Yeah, I've gotten a few homers out of the deal, but I don't think it was exactly 20 points of lead worth of homers. Also I've dropped a point in saves since then. Anyway, the best move I made by far all season was picking up A.J. Burnett while he was still on the DL. Total crapshoot, his arm could have been jelly, but the kid has pitched real nicely down the stretch.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

my consolation is that i am finishing in first place with room to spare in my other league. i guess a first and a last pretty much balance each other out for the season.

the leglo (the leglo), Friday, 1 October 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I had Burnett early in the season as my DL player, then my team hit the infirmary all at once in late April.

I kick myself not getting Glaus. I thought about picking him up a couple of times a week or two before he came back. He has hit really well since coming off the DL.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Saturday, 2 October 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, he's hit .217 since coming back. Some decent run production, but otherwise nothing too spectacular. Not to say I regret picking him (& Mr. Burrell) up for my late-season run for 8th place.

2004 I LOVE BASEBALL FANTASY AWARDS based on Yahoo!'s fantasy ranks for our league:

NL MVP:
1) Albert Pujols
2) Barry Bonds
3) Adrian Beltre

AL MVP:
1) Vlad Guerrero
2) Carlos Beltran*
3) Bobby Abreu**

*Split season between KC and HOU (NL)
**I know, Manny's #4 but Abreu's 40 Stolen Bases versus only 5 times caught propels him upward perhaps unfairly into this echelon

NL Cy Young:
1) Randy Johnson
2) Jason Schmidt
3) Ben Sheets

AL Cy Young
1) Johan Santana
2) Curt Schilling
3) Pedro Martinez

NL Reliever:
1) Eric Gagne
2) Brad Lidge
3) Armando Benitez

AL Reliever:
1) Mariano Rivera
2) Joe Nathan
3) Keith Foulke
