OH FUCK YEAH

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Friday, 6 January 2006 18:23 (twenty years ago)

i'm in.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 January 2006 18:56 (twenty years ago)

me too

(shouldn't we have two leagues, with relegations?)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 6 January 2006 19:00 (twenty years ago)

you bet.

love the relegation idea.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Friday, 6 January 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I'm in.

d4niel coh3n (dayan), Friday, 6 January 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

What is relegations? For now, I say yes I am in.

c(''c) (Leee), Friday, 6 January 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

i'm in this year!

last year i couldn't do it but i'm definitely in this year.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 6 January 2006 19:26 (twenty years ago)

i just hope i can do better than i did in my football league. but in my own defense i was unable to make it to that draft and my top two running backs and top two wide receivers were on the ir.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 6 January 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Count me in.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Friday, 6 January 2006 20:03 (twenty years ago)

relegations:
two leagues, teams grouped into great and not-so-great based on last year's results (I think I'd be in the latter league)

at end of season great league's bottom two/three teams have to play in not-so-great league in 2007, top two/three teams in not-so-great get to move up to great league in 2007

continue ad infinitum

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 6 January 2006 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Relegations sound interesting. The # of teams switching over could be higher too (four?), just to make sure that people in the Premier League don't try to coast over the last month of the season into a 7th place finish.

There was a lot of talk last year about having an IP minimum as well as maximum, or stricter requirements on the min/max number of starters and relievers a team could carry. I'm in favour of this.

The depth of a 20-team league justifies a 3-4 player DL, particularly if we have max/min quotas as per my previous paragraph.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Friday, 6 January 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

boo to this fancy foreign relegation stuff. it's un-american, i tells ya.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 January 2006 21:21 (twenty years ago)

well i don't care if we do it or not, just wanted to raise the possibility

it would solve the whole 20-team-deep league thing which makes people have to start many kansas city royals outfielders though

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 6 January 2006 22:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm in. Will try to make it through the season with fewer than 5 moves this time.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Friday, 6 January 2006 22:22 (twenty years ago)

it would solve the whole 20-team-deep league thing which makes people have to start many kansas city royals outfielders though

Now you know how I feel...

Allard Baird (gygax!), Friday, 6 January 2006 22:24 (twenty years ago)

I'm in again!

gygax! (gygax!), Saturday, 7 January 2006 01:41 (twenty years ago)

I'm debating whether I want to leave fantasy sports a winnah or not.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 7 January 2006 02:03 (twenty years ago)

ha! who are you kidding? you're a junkie like the rest of us!

come on...the annual chance to let you inner jim bowden out?

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Saturday, 7 January 2006 18:26 (twenty years ago)

yeah plus who said you were a winnah

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 7 January 2006 19:58 (twenty years ago)

i'm in.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 9 January 2006 06:22 (twenty years ago)

any room for a stranger?

ample parking (Garrett Martin), Monday, 9 January 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Could we change up the stats? Some things were just silly (holds), but a nice mix of stathead and traditional stats would be nice.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 9 January 2006 23:55 (twenty years ago)

What's so silly about Holds?

I would like to add Blown Saves as well.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:05 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of silly!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:19 (twenty years ago)

i quote the former democratic presidential candidate when i say in halting robot speak: bring...it...onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:37 (twenty years ago)

Hey we need more negative pitching stats!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:38 (twenty years ago)

That's it, I'm going to add you to the list R@p0s@.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:40 (twenty years ago)

dude, like you have to ask

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 01:05 (twenty years ago)

i'm in

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Is there a page on Yahoo that lists all the stats we can choose from? Is there a way to create our own stats?

If we set max and min for IP (or starts?) then we partially eliminate the need for both rate and counting pitching stats.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 02:36 (twenty years ago)

i'm in! and hi gygax!

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:23 (twenty years ago)

list o' stats - http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/baseball/brules/brules-13.html

I'd prefer to eliminate non-statistical categories like games started and quirky ones like IBBs given up, and I think we had separate categories for OBP, SLG and OPS, etc..

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:29 (twenty years ago)

I don't want to step on any toes, but if I were setting up a league and choosing from each, I'd start with:

Batting Average (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
Slugging Percentage (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
On-Base Percentage (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
Fielding Percentage (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
Runs Scored;
Home Runs;
Runs Batted In;
Stolen Bases;
Caught Stealing;
Total Bases;

Plus a couple more statistical categories, but I don't know which work best-
Putouts;
Assists;
Errors

Earned Run Average (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
WHIP Ratio (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
Strikeouts per Nine Innings (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
Strikeout to Walk Ratio (Rotisserie, Head-to-Head Only);
Wins;
Losses;
Complete Games;
Shutouts;
Saves;
Home Runs;
Walks;
Strikeouts;
Stolen Bases Allowed;
Total Bases Allowed;

The service we use for my local leagues combines some stats to make it easier - (two times wins) minus losses, SBs minus CS - rather than doubling up on categories. Maybe Yahoo will introduce those in the new rules.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:34 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, we should definitely get rid of the "doubling up". Using winning percentage and stolen base percentage would accomplish similar goals, but I like your way because it combines rates with counting.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:52 (twenty years ago)

Losses;
Home Runs;
Walks;
Stolen Bases Allowed;
Total Bases Allowed;

You people do this again, I don't want any complains about my light pitching staff!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 05:23 (twenty years ago)

You can't have fantasy baseball without figuring pitchers' losses in somehow. It just ain't right.

I don't really like Total Bases Allowed, but it gets as close as possible to opponents' OPS, since they don't offer that one.

Stolen Bases Allowed is a legit one, IMO - part of the pitcher's job is to hold runners, no? I think Neyer even used that as an argument against Greg Maddux being the best of his era before last season. I could understand ditching it, though, since it's unfair for that one stat to count as much as other stats.

Home runs and walks are totally legit - you need the three true outcomes for both pitchers and hitters.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:01 (twenty years ago)

He's not saying they aren't legit, he's saying he (or any of us) could dominate in those categories by loading up on relievers instead of starters.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:12 (twenty years ago)

No, that one backfired on me the year before. It was hitters I loaded up on.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:15 (twenty years ago)

I thought I was already on the list for my NO FIELDING PERCENTAGE campaign from '04!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm in this year, bitchez.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 03:36 (twenty years ago)

The draft is on my birthday!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 16:49 (twenty years ago)

Wait, or is it? Sunday night is the 26th. Gygax?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Once again, I feel like I'm 200 hours ahead of all of you for the summer.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 19:49 (twenty years ago)

I seriously doubt I spent more than 2 hours (not including the draft) managing my team last year. And that's probably way high.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 19:53 (twenty years ago)

And where, praytell, did that leave you?

c(''c) (Leee), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 20:16 (twenty years ago)

Above average. If not for the damnable holds, I'd have been in great shape.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Once again, I feel like I'm 200 hours ahead of all of you for the summer.

what are you gonna do with those 200 hours? that would be the important thing i would imagine.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 20:32 (twenty years ago)

he'll spend at least 100 of those hours on fantasy baseball threads going "I just don't get it" :)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 21:47 (twenty years ago)

Watching the Mets and assorted DVDs probly.

shit, there's a small chance i'll be on a plane from san diego back to chicago during the draft time. and fantasy sites are blocked at work, i'll try during the weekend.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 3 February 2006 14:51 (twenty years ago)

The current draft time will be pushed out until the time slated in the original post upthread. This seems to happen every year.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 3 February 2006 15:47 (twenty years ago)

dirtbombs, black lips, the lamps in san diego march 25. southwest has $99 dollar fares from here to there. i'll take my chances with a computer drafted team.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 3 February 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

Good luck with your 4 thrid basemen and 2 outfielders!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 3 February 2006 16:07 (twenty years ago)

at the casbah? that's a classic venue. petco might have an exhibition game going as well.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 3 February 2006 16:07 (twenty years ago)

cool, petco is only like 2 miles from my former roommates place. that would be sweet if i got to take in some exhibition ball too.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 3 February 2006 17:24 (twenty years ago)

They're gonna be in AZ still... too bad. Even yet, San Diego is amazing that time of year. Say hi to youknowwho from me too if you remember!

i certainly will. she'll be out here in april for the silver joos show so if i don't make it out there i'll give her your regards then.

the leglo (the leglo), Saturday, 4 February 2006 04:56 (twenty years ago)

who is Chocolate Kuegelhopf?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to play this year, but I probably shouldn't. I've been very MIA the last few months, and likely will be for the next few.

If you need an extra team to even out the numbers, lemme know.

mattbot (mattbot), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 16:21 (twenty years ago)

I finally realize that, in order to best fulfill my duties as Parodic Baseball Shitwit, I'll need to keep up to date on baseball shenanigans, and fantasy baseball is the best way to do that.

Also, I have to defend my legitimate-as-fuck championship from last year from you dweebs. I'm getting the ball, and I'm gonna win!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 17:56 (twenty years ago)

"finally"?

Winners can't walk away from the table. You and Jorge Cantu have to defend the crown.

to keep up to date on baseball shenanigans... fantasy baseball is the best way

That way lies madness, GEEK! It's lonely being the one who makes REAL beisbol a priority.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Oh, goody, the obligatory Dr. Morbius post about how fantasy baseball sucks and how we're all stupid! It had been about a week or so, I was starting to worry that he'd ascended into baseball nirvana without even saying goodbye.

Does Garrett even read ILB? Speaking of, does Blount? This thread is almost 2 months old!

What do you guys think? Blount won the first ILB season (I think?)

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:24 (twenty years ago)

And hey, Morbs is allowed his opinion (even if it is wrong).

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

I never said he wasn't allowed to have his opinion! And I like Morbs, he's a good guy to have beers with. But him appearing on a fantasy baseball thread to dis us all is kind of like Ned coming onto a thread about Bruce Springsteen, throwing feces all around, and then disappearing with a cheers and a winky.

i'm fine staying out, i haven't had anywhere near the time to devote to this i'd like for like two seasons now, i think i stopped really checking in before the all-star break even last year. i haven't scoped any draft analysis either so woefully underprepared.

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

How did I miss this? I blame everybody but myself.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 6 March 2006 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Questions:

1) GS and IP are counting stats, but the IP max is 1250. This seems low. I think that's less than the average IP per team from last year, when teams had less incentive to carry a lot of starters. Should the innings max be higher?

2) No max for trades and moves? Will Raposa go more than two consecutive days without a roster move? We'll see!

3) defense: if I have Chone Figgins, and I list him at 3B every day, do his defensive stats count *only* for the days that he plays 3B IRL? If not, players with multi-position eligibility at either C or 1B just became a bit more valuable.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 20 March 2006 05:37 (twenty years ago)

I just remembered that #3 was answered on another thread:

Including Chances weights the defense peformance based on opportunities, something that fielding % doesn't. For example, say your 3B is a player eligible at both RF/3B and spends most of his time in RF... it's going to be to your advantage that he's not spending time at the hot corner. Whereas a true 3B is going to get peppered at during the game.

-- Steve Shasta, February 2nd, 2006 12:52 PM.

What I'm trying to say about including Chances is that it doesn't punish managers who draft pure position infielders as opposed to those managers who throw utility guys into critical defensive infield spots.

-- Steve Shasta, February 2nd, 2006 12:55 PM.

If I'm undestanding this correctly, the defensive stats accumulated IRL count toward fantasy league stats, provided the player isn't listed at DH in the fantasy lineup.

This means you could draft a 1B and a 1B/3B (who mainly plays 1B IRL) and dominate in fielding % and putouts.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 20 March 2006 08:18 (twenty years ago)

2) No max for trades and moves? Will Raposa go more than two consecutive days without a roster move? We'll see!

I'll make a move right now if you want, Sparky!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 02:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to get the draft time as close as possible to the originally stated time way upthread but as of now, it's:

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 03:21 (twenty years ago)

In which round will the following players be drafted on Sunday? If you're feeling ambitious, predict which managers will draft them.

Barry Bonds
Alfonso Soriano
Felix Hernandez
Jason Giambi

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Friday, 24 March 2006 01:39 (twenty years ago)

Aw man, my draft is going to suck. I'd be better off letting Yahoo pick for me.

c(''c) (Leee), Sunday, 26 March 2006 18:45 (twenty years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 27 March 2006 05:18 (twenty years ago)

my outfield is bobby abreu, adam dunn, and jason michaels?

...

gear (gear), Monday, 27 March 2006 05:36 (twenty years ago)

I might have choked in the fifth round when I picked Bobby Crosby. Before the draft, I put a priority on drafting a shortstop before I started filling spots in the outfield or at first base. However, a lot of good 1B and OF had been chosen in the previous two rounds and I started getting worried. I wanted to pick Bonds but couldn't bring myself to do it. I used the full 90 seconds.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 27 March 2006 05:59 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm cool with my draft. Definitely long on potential, but short on pitching. Got two or three first basemen too many, too.

Also, to avoid confusion, and to foster an atmosphere of transparency, I'm changing my "handle" here to match my team name. So it's chocolate kuegelhopf from here on out, and no more ample parking.

chocolate kuegelhopf (Garrett Martin), Monday, 27 March 2006 13:04 (twenty years ago)

It will make victory that much sweeter. OH YEAH

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 27 March 2006 13:15 (twenty years ago)

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 27 March 2006 17:21 (twenty years ago)

I feel okay about my team. I like my infield, though it's a little old. I like my pitching, though it's a little young. I'll need a couple of breakout years to contend, but I feel better about it than I thought I would, given how many managers there are in our league. d4niel coh3n (dayan), Monday, 27 March 2006 17:21 (twenty years ago)

How about Francisco "The Throw-In Guy" Liriano?

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait.

Francisco Liriano is likely to make the Twins' Opening Day roster as a reliever.
If the team also keeps Dennys Reyes, then Liriano will be a long reliever. If Reyes is cut, that would leave Liriano as the bullpen's lone lefty and tempt manager Ron Gardenhire into using him in a short-relief role.

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:23 (twenty years ago)

I can't say I'm not happy with my team - but some cheeky bastard nicked Chacin and Durham just as I was preparing to get them!
That and my team is kind of old - and I have no one to get some SB for me. So I'm already putting the trade feelers out on that one.

jonathan quayle higgins, almost esquire

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Dear Mr. Would-Be-Esquire:

Would that the free agent market were not so bereft that I could unleash my Lil Bow-wow-den and pick up toolsy bench cozies. As it stands, my hitting lineup is surprisingly efficient, as is my pitching, when it doesn't suck hairy mints. That said, I am looking to kick Ted Lilly and his walkies to the curb as soon as a better replacement walkies on by.

I am open to any & all trade offers, as long as they are not of the sort that I was offered in my other league, when someone thought I'd actually be amenable to giving up Fran Liriano for Hanley Ram-Ram. In a pig's brown eye, bro-ho. In a pig's brown eye.

Courage,
David R.

i need outfielders. one solid outfielder, actually. please look at the Disorderly Veterans for players of interest...

gear (gear), Saturday, 22 April 2006 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Daver,

You do not have pitching because you do not respect pitching. You must learn to love pitching as you love fielding, as you love offense, as you love your Fenway Park or your "green monster."

You must study middle relief, embrace the situational lefty, learn to appreciate the veteran save artist.

You must open your eyes to the gold mine of pitching free agency or trade with someone who has. Despite my poor auto-draft results, I am building a staff bit by bit to rival that of the Kugelhoff or the Taco Hut. I will make Takashi Saito a star, mark my words, perhaps to trade for superstar first baseman. SInce Lee got hurt, every day I get up and thank god that Aurilliarules is qualified at 1B.

DEAR LEEEEEE READ ONE BOOK (actually it's in #4, so READ FOUR BOOKS)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:10 (twenty years ago)

this is my first ever year playing some kind of fantasy sport thang. i'm in a yahoo rotisserie league rn, 5th place (out of 8 pps :'(). savvy move of the day: failing to return chipper to the lineup before he hit a two-run homer. ken griff is also wasting space on my bench. the strategy of this rotisserie thing hasn't become apparent to me, because the number of points you can actually have stays the same the whole way through? so i am sort of unsure of what i can/should do to improve my standing, or if it's just a lol@me sitch.

IT'S NOT CALLED GYM-NICE-STICS (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 23:34 (twenty years ago)

I did the same thing with Chipper. Part of me was hoping he wasn't going to do that.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 23:42 (twenty years ago)

I think Chipper did the same thing to me last year hitting a two or three run jack his first day back from the DL.

I'm glad Shawn Green are finally starting to hit, someone needs to have a talking to Francoeur. Frenchy hit a jack today against the Brewers, but the guy is still only hitting his weight and O-for the season in walks.

Edwin Encarnacion is starting to hit like a big league third basemen, but the dude is stone hands in the field already with EIGHT errors. He alone has half of my teams errors.

What is the deal with Beltran? The guy hasn't played in over a week or so, but they haven't yet put him on the DL.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Thursday, 27 April 2006 01:16 (twenty years ago)

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Thursday, 27 April 2006 11:40 (twenty years ago)

Like a moron, I started Josh Towers against the Yankees and Randy Johnson in New York. He gave up a four-spot in the first. He's single-handedly killing my pitching staff, but with Rich Harden going on the DL yesterday I didn't think I was in a position to start picking and choosing starts for my pitchers. Then again, I didn't think Towers could regress from 0-4, 8.35 ERA but four runs and a juicy taco to Giambi in 1 IP (so far) says the opposite.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 29 April 2006 16:48 (twenty years ago)

my giambi thanks your towers

gear (gear), Saturday, 29 April 2006 17:05 (twenty years ago)

Lee you fucker, I was going to take Buchholz!!

Literally -- I had it all set up but stopped to think "do I really want this guy facing Cinci tomorrow?" so I watched a bit more of the Jays game and realized "any SP has to be better than this".

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 29 April 2006 17:30 (twenty years ago)

1. With that pickup, I've now passed the quarter-mark in moves, 23 games into the season.

2. I'm going to start him tomorrow! Yay a team record of 7-10 and 4.70 ERA!

3. I was scoping El Dookay and Groove Armas-da too!

4. I'll hook you up with some Bardo stuff!

c(''c) (Leee), Saturday, 29 April 2006 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Ha, I'm not surprised that we were both keeping an eye on the same guys. All's fair, etc. Buchholz was probably my #1 FA choice but once you took him and Towers got hammered yet again (and his likely opponents over the next few weeks don't get any easier, N.B. for anyone who is thinking about grabbing him) then my next moves felt obvious.

#4 would be nice though.

so far i am leading my league in fewest strikeouts and caught stealingz, but also have the fewest hits. i don't think i understand this game :'(

since i am playing rotisserie, leading in errors or ibb is worth the same number of points (eight, since it's an 8-person league) as leading in hr. i don't really understand how to improve my roster? like, is it pointless to go out and cherry-pick the guys who have done best in certain areas (completed games, stolen bases, whatever), and replace my current dudes with them? cuz it's not like those stats will count for me, nor do they guarantee that they'll keep on producing numbahs. i feel like it'd be smarter for me to not try and change the roster to catch up with the guys who have 300 hits and whatnot, and instead try to snag a lead in the categories where the difference is a lot smaller. i just have NO IDEA HOW TO DO THIS HELP :(

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 11 May 2006 15:51 (twenty years ago)

Depends on what stats you want boosted.

Berkman's been mashing, so he has to start.

c(''c) (Leee), Thursday, 11 May 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

well, i am dead last in runs, hits and homers, so i guess i should be wanting a boost in those areas. the thing is, i have too much depth at 1b. i COULD start berkman at OF, but that would mean losing ichiro or beltran. probably ichiro, but he's my best guy in terms of stolen bases and overall hits. :/

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Trade one of your first basemen for a real third baseman. Ty Wigg is a mirage.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:25 (twenty years ago)

You also might consider trading Jose Reyes, since Ichiro and Beltran should give you plenty of stolen bases. You're weak at 3b, ss, and c, and yet berkman and reyes are sitting on the pine.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

also, i just dropped griff a couple days ago... right before he comes back and hits a HR :'(. should i pick him up again???

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

Sure. Drop Castillo and get Griffey. But he still rides the bench on a team with Giambi, Berkman, Beltran and Ichiro.

Castillo shouldn't see the field on a team with Wigs, Weeks and Iguchi.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

ooh, thanks.

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:32 (twenty years ago)

wait, trade reyes? he was my replacement for Cabrera! who should i replace him with?

casey blake's sitting out there in free agency right now. good enough replacement for wiggy?

i just benched ichiro for berkman... i am weak at catcher, but the options out there seem pretty shitty overall. i'm not sure who i should pursue.

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:40 (twenty years ago)

Cabrera and Reyes are both weak options in my opinion, because your team already has two very good stolen base guys in Beltran and Ichiro. Unlike those guys, Reyes doesn't add much more than SBs (although he has been getting more walks this year). Cabrera is actually a better option on your team than Reyes because he's a bit more well-rounded.

What I would do is try to trade Reyes for a SS with some pop (Nomar? Jeter?), or for a solid 3b guy.

Blake is a much better 3b than Wigs, imo. If your league has a DL slot you could stick Rowand in it and pick Blake up for free.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:50 (twenty years ago)

i am weak at catcher, but the options out there seem pretty shitty overall. i'm not sure who i should pursue.

Don't worry too much about catcher. Estrada has been perfectly fine so far. If you can get a Victor Martinez or a Joe Mauer or a Josh Willingham, sure, pull the trigger, but catcher is the least important position on your team.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:53 (twenty years ago)

Don't undersell the importance of a catcher's intangibles!

Meanwhile, over at AcidMotherPendletonville... Someone please trade me for Matt Cain! I can't bear cutting him.

c(''c) (Leee), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:58 (twenty years ago)

i'm trading cabrera for felipe lopez rn, and am trying to trade konerko and reyes for schilling (lol). getting curt would be a major coup, cuz i can start him as an rp.

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Sunday, 14 May 2006 01:31 (twenty years ago)

Hi Barry! Still want Bucholtz??

c(''c) (Leee), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 00:06 (twenty years ago)

i think that has been the trend this year: pick up a hot pitcher right before he shits the bed. at least i've noticed it w/ guys i've picked up and guys i've wanted to pick up that someone else got.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 00:23 (twenty years ago)

Yup - I just picked up Ramon Ramirez today and he gives up 3 runs while getting only 1 out. Thank god he doesn't show on my roster until tomorrow! But now I'm reconsidering my decision :/

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 01:52 (twenty years ago)

GOD I HATE THIS STUPID FUCKING GAYWAD GAME. i picked up glavine, arroyo and harang in FA and I'm still losing points. I JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS SHIT

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:21 (twenty years ago)

Thermo, I'm in the same boat. Really a bummer to see him touted so highly by cowboy Tracy Ringolsby only to have his confidence fucked tonight.

scrimhaw1837 (son_of_scrimshaw), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:45 (twenty years ago)

i think I'm going to hang on to him still. He was bound to get hit sooner or later and all i need is guy who'll get me a few holds and not walk everybody.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 04:14 (twenty years ago)

that IS the rub, innit?

what the hell happened to lidge? usually reliable holds dude jc romero?

ach!

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 09:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I need a whipmeister--was in a holds league a while ago and sort of miss the thing, it gave greater fantasy purpose to misfit middle chuckers.

xpost

scrimhaw1837 (son_of_scrimshaw), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 11:16 (twenty years ago)

I keep having days where Jeff Kent will suddenly go hot after I've benched him. So I switch him and Justin Morneau around, and then Morneau bats in, like, eleven runs or something. Fuck.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

this was wily mo and yours truly last night...though mike jacobs did me right.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 21:31 (twenty years ago)

I sit Cain and Buchholtz because both of them got rocked in previous starts.

Two complete-game shutouts; Cain tosses a one-hitter, Buccholtz a five-hitter.

c(''c) (Leee), Sunday, 21 May 2006 22:53 (twenty years ago)

when am i going to learn to not start joe blanton? seriously, i don't know what to do with the fucking guy. i feel like he's gotta come around and put it together, but this is nuts.

and i don't know why i'm hanging onto frank thomas, come to think of it.

SECOND PLACE SUCKAS

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 21 May 2006 23:42 (twenty years ago)

Out of all the injury-prone pitchers drafted in the early rounds (that is to say, nearly all of them), why did I end up with the two guys who can't seem to get off the DL?

I also want to send out a friendly reminder to people to stick to ILB Fantasy League talk on this thread -- all non-ILB fantasy talk can go here:

Your non-ILB roto/fantasy teams

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 21 May 2006 23:54 (twenty years ago)

At this rate (20 pts/day) I'll be in first place by Friday. WATCH OUT.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 27 May 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, well last night i climbed more than two points, which means i'm bound to lose about 8 today.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Sunday, 28 May 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

+ 20
+ 12
- 12.5

My team is bulimic.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 29 May 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Barry, what's your price for Kinsler?

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

I need more speed and walks.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Monday, 29 May 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Barry, what's your price for Kinsler?

Magic beans that will get Sheets and Harden off the DL and back in my rotation.

I probably owe you one for "taking" Buchholz off my hands, but I honestly don't know what I'll be needing until I know when those guys will be healthy. And when that happens, I'll probably be looking to deal some pitching, not hitting.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 29 May 2006 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

my team is terrible

- maddux, mulder, and blanton are useless
- dunn and giambi have gone in the tank
- abreu needs more HR
- chavez will never have that "breakout year" and will forever remain a 27hr/90rbi/.275 guy
- frank thomas is awful
- if i combined khalil greene and david eckstein i'd have a pretty good player
- javy lopez needs to get back on the juice
- my entire relief corps seems to be on the DL
- my third outfield spot is now on its fifth different player (xavier nady) after the failed jason michaels/preston wilson/jeff davanon/nate malouth experiments.

just about the only guys who have been steady are halladay, crede, biggio, and escobar. take that for what it's worth.

gear (gear), Monday, 29 May 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

i'm fielding offers for anyone on my team (except abreu and halladay, i need them)

gear (gear), Monday, 29 May 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

My entire team is slumping but at least they're doing it as a team.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

Good luck on Nady, he lost his starting job (hence why I dropped him).

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

Complaining that your team is terrible when it's been in the top five for most of the season, C/D?

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

- dunn and giambi have gone in the tank

yeah, those 29 homeruns must be killing you dude.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 29 May 2006 23:26 (nineteen years ago)

dunn has hit .198 over the past month (albeit with eight HR) and giambi has been pretty atrocious lately. my team was playing above its head for awhile, now they're coming back to earth.
