cankles, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

i think ryan howard will be fuking you in the ass

james blount, Thursday, 8 March 2007 05:42 (eighteen years ago)

I thought Cox's contract was up after this year.

This team isn't going to fuk anyone but the Nats.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:59 (eighteen years ago)

they blew, what, 29 saves last year? if they won even a third of those games they would've won the wild card last year. with Wickman on board for a full season, and Gonzalez and the (hopefully not seriously injured) Soriano hanging around, the bullpen shouldn't be a problem this year. they still have a great offense and the rotation should be better than '06. there's no reason to think they're incapable of contention.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

lol is dat really blount? anyway yeah, last year's biggest weakness (bullpen) is now their biggest strength. it just remains to be seen if anyone in the rotation besides smoltz can delivah. also, druw's in a CONTRACT YEAR~~~! he is gonna blow sum foolz up imo.

cankles, Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

I can't check stats right now (TUBES B SLOW), but I was under the impression that the Braves' offense was mediocre @ best?

David R., Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

the Braves scored the second-most runs in the NL last year, less than the Phillies, but more than the Mets. they've lost LaRoche, who had an excellent second half, and Giles, who was just awful, but unless Chipper misses more time than usual there's no reason to expect a notable drop-off in offense.

of course Mike Hampton had to go and squander some of my hope this morning, but that's what that dude does best, so I can't begrudge him too much.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
Nice, locking up McCann for six years.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 23 March 2007 03:16 (eighteen years ago)

and Brian McCann WILL be the National League's MVP for 2007.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

I don't see that happening, but I'll give you top 5, maybe top 3. Last night my wife asked me "Did you just say 'BRIAN MCCANN, YOU MY SWEET, SWEET BOO!!'?"

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

he's certainly the mvp of the braves. i loved that they walked him just now to get at francoeur.

cankles, Thursday, 5 April 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

i hope blount feels like a douche for not repping his BWOYZ!!!!!!!!!

cankles, Thursday, 5 April 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

Two of three from the almighty Mets, and a great start from their not-even-number-five starter. The excitement is starting to come back, but I've always been a pushover for this team.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 9 April 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

I always get so excited when I see Braves baseball is on TBS, then I'm glassy-eyed and bored in about two innings. Do I just hate the NL?

call all destroyer, Monday, 9 April 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

Could it be Caray-related?

Andy K, Monday, 9 April 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'd take Skip's mocking of TBS's other programming over Chip's dull "professionalism" any day of the week. I'd bet set if the Braves Radio Network could find an affiliate in Boston.

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

Skip seems to have a hard time maintaining his interest in any game that's not a nailbiter.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

as long as I don't have to listen to Joe Buck, I'm cool with whoever.

i'm not gonna get too stoked about them too early. watch them get swept by the nats or something now.

cankles, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Tim Hudson: 0.62 ERA

(mothafuckas)

-- cankles, Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:31 AM (57 minutes ago)

The other night, Joe Simpson was hinting around the idea that one of Hudson's problems last year was Roger McDowell, but that they're starting to learn to get along.

In the meantime, this thread title isn't true anymore, Willy Aybar got home from his Lost Weekend and found out he wasn't a player anymore, and Francoeur already has a two-walk game this year. (And he walked last night with the bases loaded instead of trying to hit a taco bellgrande.)

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 21 April 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

idk i remember hearing b4 the season started that cox's intention was to retire in two years. so this sort of fits in with that imo. and yeah, francoeur looks a lot better than i was anticipating.

i will probably shun the team forever if/when they let andruw walk.

cankles, Saturday, 21 April 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

He's doing fuck-all with his contract year so far. Maybe he likes it in Atl.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 21 April 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

He most definitely likes the strip clubs in Atlanta.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 23 April 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

Son of a bitch! Cox needs to be slapped sideways for sending Hudson back out for the 9th.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 26 April 2007 01:36 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still waiting for him to be slapped for having BRIAN MCCANN bunt w/ 2 on, no outs, and a THREE RUN LEAD. & then, after McCann got popped on the finger w/ the pitch, he tried bunting AGAIN.

Maybe McCann needs a slap, too.

David R., Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe Francouer does, too, just because he annoys the shit out of me.

David R., Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

yeah that was some grady little pedro shit right there. i was listening in the car and i about shit myself when the 4th run was knocked in.

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)

lmbo, cox would've been run out of town years ago if this city actually cared abt baseball

francoeur's esteem has risen in my eyes since i found out he's a bosox fan! his old man took him to fenway when he was a newborn just like mine did ;____;

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

Francoeur's like a tiny-brained dinosaur that gets kicked and says "ouch" a month later, but eventually he does learn. There was a funny interview clip yesterday with him talking about how the '06 season taught him that whatever he was doing in late '05 couldn't continue. It only took him ALL YEAR to figure it out, yay, hi fives!

I rag on him a lot, but I actually do like him, and he's been good for the Mystery Trainers.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

i'm irritated by him because of all these non-baseball things that i associate him with, but he's probably a nice guy and he is improving as a player. i guess i cant hate on homie

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

Frenchy must be showing some more discipline at the plate this year, as he already has 8 walks. I swear I don't think the guy had that many before the all star break last year.

earlnash, Saturday, 28 April 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

Second game in a row that Cox has mishandled the pitching staff in the 9th. Arguably the third game in a row, since he brought Wickman in with a five run lead two out of the last three games. Wickman's tired, he's worked four of the last five games. Quit trotting him out there like he's Ray King, Bobby.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 28 April 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't see Saturday, but Wickman looked out of his game on Sunday. They put him on the DL today, so I suppose using him the last four games was not that good an idea.

Andruw Jones got one of the most awkward hits I have ever seen. The guy I think both hit his bat off the ground and nearly fell down hitting a single. Jones then followed it up with a terrible slide into home plate. They definitely were not his most graceful moments on a ball diamond.

I don't get Frenchy in the field. The guy can make a crazy sliding catch like the one he did to save the game, but if you hit the ball right at him the guy has a 1 in 3 chance it will skip by him to the wall. I think the guy needs some bi-focals or something.

earlnash, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

Mark Redman has the worst looking delivery in baseball. That jerky three-piece throw is one pitch away from a ruined shoulder at any time.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Bobby'll get there.

I like how, at least twice a game, there'll be a close pitch and the director will lovingly hold a shot of Cox saying "jesus CHRIST."

Rock Hardy, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah Chipper, NO SHIT

Dr Morbius, Monday, 14 May 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

OH SHIT, SMOLTZIE, FINGERS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BEND THAT DIRECTION.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

there's a greater injustice that remains unaddressed:

"It's not fair for those who can control themselves. Some guys just like to have a couple of beers to calm their nerves after a game."
--Braves center fielder Andruw Jones

"When guys hang around and do drink, they're usually just trying to let the traffic die down. People know what to do. It's not fair for any team or Major League Baseball to ban alcohol. We're all man enough to control ourselves."
--Jones

cankles, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 07:20 (eighteen years ago)

via SABR-L:

on May 2, Braves catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia broke the
prestigious record for "longest MLB surname", with 14 letters. The
previous record of 13 had lasted 113 years since Gene DeMontreville
set it in 1894, and was shared by 15 players.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 11 June 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

It sounds like Lilly got a raw deal.

mattbot, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

He got a completely raw deal. Throws two high-and-outside balls to Renteria, then hits him with what didn't appear to be a fastball (then again, it's Ted Lilly). Plate ump calls warning, then somewhere down the line tosses Lilly. Plate ump, who had a mic on him, said he "knew it was coming."

The first pitch once play resumes, Renteria steals second, throws a forearm/elbow into Fontenot. That was OK, apparently -- as well as Soriano getting plunked the day before in his first at-bat.

So, basically, the Braves can do whatever and Piniella gets his just desserts for his antics.

Andy K, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:08 (eighteen years ago)

And lol that the Cubs hit two batters after Lilly was ejected. Clearly, the home plate ump has a sixth sense about intent.

mattbot, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:31 (eighteen years ago)

Haha, Fontenot just hit his first home run.

Andy K, Monday, 11 June 2007 02:12 (eighteen years ago)

I missed the middle of the game for the Sopranos, so tell me if I'm wrong -- Joe Morgan is unwilling to say "Saltalamacchia," isn't he? All he says is "the catcher."

So did Fontenot and the Cubs' bullpen.

Wolf, Renteria: MLB Jackasses of the Week.

Andy K, Monday, 11 June 2007 20:23 (eighteen years ago)

Hudson, too. Round them all up.

Andy K, Monday, 11 June 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

"He got a completely raw deal."

lol you're a fagtard. he was clearly retaliating for when Soriano got beaned the day before. it was still a horseshit call, ump shoulda warned the managers before the game that he was watching for it, but it's not like he decided out of the mighty blue sky that lilly just cold wanted to knock some niggas heads off.

renteria looks like spiderman in that picture~

cankles, Monday, 11 June 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

Slurs LOL

Yes, Lilly's sad "What just happened and why can't I pitch some more tonight?" look in the dugout was a clear indication that the 2-0 beanball was flagrantly intentional.

Andy K, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

The cooler heads at AJC prevail and assign blame correctly:

The win wasn't secure until Soriano, who'd homered three times Friday to amp up tensions, lined out hard in the ninth inning.

The message is clear: don't homer in ATL.

mattbot, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

The nerve...

Steve Shasta, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

Renteria took exception to where the ball hit him on the chin.

hurrr

cankles, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

Had he been hit on some other part of the chin, however...

Andy K, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:09 (eighteen years ago)

Steve Phillips acknowledged Hudson beaning Soriano during his salute of the Lilly ejection. "They [the plate ump] went after the aggressor" and "They [plate ump] thought it was done intentionally." OK.

lolll another shutout

maybe they can go after rowand when andruw leaves

cankles, Monday, 25 June 2007 03:56 (eighteen years ago)

At this rate, they'll be able to keep Andruw for pennies on the dollar. Also: I'm not sure the Braves could handle a gutty dude like Rowand, when they already have guttiness in surplus w/ Chipper & Schmoltzie.

Also: I AGREE WITH CHIPPER

David R., Monday, 25 June 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

Also: WTF happened to Francoeur's supposed plate patience this year? Bro is on pace for 36 walks (and I'm thinking he'll only get there if moved to the 8 hole). Two words, ATL - Shea Hillenbrand. SI cover (& when the fuck did THAT happen) don't mean shit if you can't work a pitcher.

lol @ ade calling me something (pre-emptive)

David R., Monday, 25 June 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

what's nut is they're still only like four games behind the Mets, despite being horrible for over a month.

somehow this June has become even more painful than last year's.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 25 June 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

dude i was gonna make a post like that re: francoeur. i think he had double digit walks by the end of april, and it had me going all "wow maybe i underestimated this guy", cuz I've always had a pretty dim view of him - but nah, he's back to hacking at everything now. kelly johnson's cooled off a lot but he was looking like a really shrewd hitter for the first couple months, it was a real contrast.

btw andruw's average FOR THE SEASON is now .197

cankles, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 05:33 (eighteen years ago)

haha yeah garrett but they're still in third place. tho it's looking like the braves have a better shot at catching the mets than they do any of the teams in the west. it's division or bust.

where do you guys stand on the SALTALACONTROVERSY??? mccann became my fav player last year, he is all chubby and cute and in general seems like a laidback dude i could hang with, no homo, but it's looking like salty is the better overall player :'( it'd be a shame to move him to first permanently cuz he can call a good game and handle himself defensively, but it's better than the alternative (ie. THORMAN)

cankles, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 05:45 (eighteen years ago)

also, where were kelly johnson and willie harris all this time??? they have been ballin' outta control all year, and along with renteria nobody else has been as consistent & productive imo~

cankles, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 05:55 (eighteen years ago)

Whatever Willie Harris is doing, he's doing because of some combination of luck, good clean living, ritual sacrifice, and luck.

Do you not like the trade?

polyphonic, Monday, 30 July 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

not really! i mean i dunno, maybe i should - 1st base has been their biggest (non-pitching) weakness this year by far, both in terms of production in the lineup and defensively (salty wasnt adjusting well), and any excuse to keep thorman and franco off the field is a big plus. but tex is a free agent after this season and salty still has like 6 years left on his contract, and it's possible (likely?) that he ends up being a better player than mccann, much as i hate to say that. i guess schoerlerhulz knows more about this shit than me tho~

cankles, Monday, 30 July 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

He's 27 y/o rent a slugger, but as cankle and I chatted about, it will be interesting to see how his power numbers translate away from Arlington:

Career:
Home .302/.378/.576 = .954
Away .264/.358/.489 = .847

Steve Shasta, Monday, 30 July 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

also Teixeira isn't a free agent until 2009. perhaps they can redirect some of the Andruw money towards keeping Tex around for a few years longer.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 30 July 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

that's what i was thinking garrett - this is a move to plug the gap in the lineup when andruw jets.

cankles, Monday, 30 July 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

Braves take lead in bidding for Dotel

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7074020

Andy K, Monday, 30 July 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

Teixeira is a pretty good pickup. Jarrod Saltalamacchia looks like he will be a good everyday catcher, but the Braves have McCann.

I would not touch re-signing Andruw Jones for nothing. That guy screams of having a collapse and he was looking freaking terrible at the plate earlier this year.

earlnash, Monday, 30 July 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

in a way i wonder if i should be happy abt andruw's shitty year - if it drives his asking price down then maybe they can afford to keep him after all, which i would be pretty stoked about. i'm not sure how torii hunter being on the market effects this - presumably he is going to be more sought after at this point, which could give the braves some leverage w/druw, not to mention rowand being available as a cheaper alternative. or they could move francoeur to center.

cankles, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 06:06 (eighteen years ago)

i think the idea that salty will be better than mccann is really what niggles at me, so i am hoping he turns out to be shitty as hell. playing for the rangers probably increases the odds of this.

cankles, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 06:07 (eighteen years ago)

I expect Willie Harris to be the everyday center fielder next year. I'll be happy to see Andruw go. I think he peaked about a year or two ahead of when most players peak, and he's on the downhill side. And it's fucking infuriating to watch a .220 batter refuse to make swing adjustments. He's fun to watch defensively, but he's dragging the lineup down.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure about this deal. Three of your best prospects for a year and a half rental of a guy whose offensive splits have always erred on the side of Arlington seems pretty high.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

Every time I watch Speedy McCann stretch a triple into a double, I think it might not be the best deal either. But he's tied up, and Salty's best value is as trade bait to fill their weak spots, so I can't really argue with it.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

hey, don't be selling 'em short, Alex, it's five of their best prospects for eight months plus of Tex and eight weeks or so of something called "Ron Mahay".

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

you really think willie harris is sticking around? i like him but he seems like a wandering journeyman type. also i was really impressed with him for the first month or two (i thought he was a rookie lmbo) but lately i am digging diaz a lot more

they really should've said 'fuk u' to chipper's ego and moved him to first, put esco at third, and ~*blaow*~ they are awesome

also it looks like dotel is a done deal which i am wayyyy more stoked abt than tex.

cankles, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

The Teixeira trade seems crazy to me now that we know all the players involved, especially when they could have acquired someone like Mike Lamb for far less (i.e. not Salty!).

polyphonic, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

I thought Harris' contract was through 2008, but I see it's just for this year. (Cot's BB Contracts website is already showing Tex, Mahay and Dotel as Braves -- dude needs to get out of the house a little.)

Harris & Braves are a good fit financially and on the field. If he doesn't stay with them, he's nuts, and if they don't offer him a couple of years, they're nuts.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

lol but mike lamb sucks :'(

cankles, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

If .299, .378, .480 sucks, please give me some suck.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

"hey, don't be selling 'em short, Alex, it's five of their best prospects for eight months plus of Tex and eight weeks or so of something called "Ron Mahay"."

Yeah the deal kept getting more lopsided. Of course then for some reason Daniels got juked by Epstein for Gagne.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

mike lamb should be called mike butts, because he is buttsy

(okay i didnt know his numbers at all until now, MY BAD)

scheurholz must reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally think this will push them over the top this year. i suppose it is pretty much the best lineup in the NL as long as utley is MIA.

cankles, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

can I be the first to say HEARTBREAK DOTEL

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

Dear folks who think signing Willie Harris to an actual contract & having him man CF full-time qualifies as a "smart move":

2004 (w/ the White Sox): 129 games played, 262 / 343 / 323

David R., Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks, Morbs.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)

Dear folks who think signing Carlos Beltran to an actual contract & having him man CF full-time qualifies as a "smart move":

2000 (w/ the Royals): 98 games played, .247/.309/.366

polyphonic, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

OK:

1) Carlos Beltran had a great rookie year before that (age 21), then had a sophomore slump & got sent down / read the riot act before snapping back & giving the Royals a .306 / .362 / .514 line w/ 32 stolen bases, & was under arbitration during this time (obv), so the cost to the team was minimal.

2) Willie Harris is 29, has done nothing @ the ML level to impress anyone outside of his performance this year, screwed the pooch the one time he rec'd any sort of regular playing time (in 2004), and is leaving July hitting like a bargain-bin Juan Pierre (a punchless .244, & that's after getting 4 hits his last 2 games) after hitting a WTF .391 and .355 the previous two months. Paying him like a starting CF (even as "low" as $5 mil) off of his performance in 130 ABs is something best left to the Pirates.

David R., Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

Or the team paying Gary Matthews Jr. $11 million this year to do what he's done every year except 2006.

David R., Wednesday, 1 August 2007 01:51 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i love the year WH has been having but after i looked at his past stats i was like "dang :("

cankles, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

John Schuerholz has a good record trading off prospects, there have been a couple that have done OK after leaving Atlanta, but most of those trades have worked out in the Braves favor. I've got to figure that the Braves are planning on signing Teixiera for a few years.

Schuerholz has also had success finding guys out of the baseball scrap heap like Willie Harris, Jaret Wright or even Julio Franco that seem to come out of nowhere and play well.

earlnash, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

Schuerholz has also had success at finding guys to ghost-write the worst book ever on his name.

Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

grr, UNDER his name.

Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz

David R., Wednesday, 1 August 2007 03:59 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, sorry - confusing the shitty book about the Cardinals w/ the shitty book about the Braves.

David R., Wednesday, 1 August 2007 04:02 (eighteen years ago)

Also HAY

okay i think i like this tex guy

cankles, Thursday, 2 August 2007 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

this deal is awesome now that it's clear the rangers are moving salty to first for good. he is worth so much less as a first baseman than as a catcher, i am just interested in how elvis andrus turns out now~

cankles, Thursday, 2 August 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

Woody Williams is some bullshit.

David R., Friday, 3 August 2007 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

braves have scorned 50 runs in the last 4 games

cankles, Friday, 3 August 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

wait my bad, 49

cankles, Friday, 3 August 2007 04:48 (eighteen years ago)

And the Astros have now given up 53 runs in their last 4 games.

And for the first time in franchise history have given up double digit runs in 4 straight games.

boldbury, Friday, 3 August 2007 05:35 (eighteen years ago)

this game tampered with my emotions

Yeah Daver, don't cite ACTUAL PERFORMANCE facts around the Krukites here! They hate numbers!

Dr Morbius, Friday, 3 August 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

One thing that's assured is that Willie Harris shouldn't play 3B.

polyphonic, Friday, 3 August 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

I love numbers! But I also think the numbers from 130 games in 2004 mean as much or as little as the numbers from 225 ABs this year. I sure as hell don't advocate paying Harris $5M/year based on anything he's ever done -- Dave brought that number up, not me.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 3 August 2007 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

Joe M credits Glavine's ability to throw strikes.

Andy K, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

Will he do it TONITE?

P Niekro looks younger than I remember him from his last playing years.

Andy K, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

I am senile LOL.

Frenchy has made two great throws catching runners at the plate tonight against the Phillies.

earlnash, Monday, 13 August 2007 01:16 (eighteen years ago)

...and then a third into the crowd

mookieproof, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

his glove has been getting better and better all year. and honestly he is really awesome at the plate since the ASB. i guess i wrote him off too soon!~

cankles, Monday, 13 August 2007 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

great Miller call on Frenchy overthrow: TOUCHDOWN!

This in-game interview garbage is going to be all 9 innings soon, isn't it?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 13 August 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

It's like everybody else said "whew, Big Tex is here, he'll save us" and quit trying.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

uh, okay, I made that happen with the power of my doubting mind.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

YAY BRAVES!!!!!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha, I QUIT WATCHING IN THE SEVENTH INNING :(

my only hope for them at this point is that they can ruin the playoff hopes of other teams (like, say, philly). even if they did make the playoffs they wouldn't get anywhere, since you can count all their decent pitchers on one hand.

cankles, Thursday, 6 September 2007 05:55 (eighteen years ago)

JOHN SMOLTZ IS DOING SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES THE LETTER N AND H

I HOPE THIS IS NOT A JINX

well, the Bravos are just 3 behind the Phils going into Tuesday. Sufficient motive to sweep 'em.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 24 September 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

i'm not sure whose playoffs hopes i'm more interested in seeing be crushed - philly's or nym's. either way we win~~

atlanta has the most pythagorean wins in the division btw~~

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

i hope he fucking does, that shitbag is a fraud and always has been. i can't wait until pendleton takes over.

he's gonna be a Hall of Famer,dude!

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha dude i was going to make an aside along the lines of "if he gets into the HoF you can officially write the whole thing off as a joke," the guy's a chickenshit and should've been run outta town years ago. what the hell does he bring to the table anyway? besides his masterful strategic acumen. will it really be so hard to find another guy who can clap and shout "go get 'em Jeffery!!!" from the bench?

cankles, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, you are HIGH. On DRUGS. Cox is grebt.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

Hudson and Smoltz better come through...

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

THANKS, LARRY

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

So long, Andruw

Brooklynsnakes (33 minutes ago)
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR DAMN MIND??????? Who do you think is going to give you Andruw $20 MILLION A YEAR! My Yankees would not give you that if they were hungry for a centerfielder (ok maybe they would sign you if Melky had not come on so strong). Dude, in your walk year you hit .222! You are the Venezuelan Richie Sexson. Go dive into the Dodgers. They're waiting for you. Juan Pierre, please pick up the white courtesy phone!!

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

lol, ya i heard this afternoon. it's amazing... a year ago now i would've been ready to boycott this team if they let my nigga go. and i honestly still do LUV ANDRUW. i love watching dude play center, and i just love how *~*~*~*kewl*~*~*~* he is. but dude just fukkin sux now.

btw, just for kicks go back and look at his pecota writeups from 10 years ago, they're.... something.

1997

A comparable prospect to Alex Rodriguez. He’s going to be a slightly better hitter than Rodriguez, and probably will develop more strongly. I wouldn’t trade him for Rodriguez or vice versa. Probably one of the top ten outfielders in baseball right now, and will be the very best within four years. The Vladimir projections aren’t meant to be more than a one-year tool, and we all know that iterative modeling is a dicey proposition at best, but let’s throw caution to the wind and let Vladimir project his entire career. Just for fun.

Works for me. Alex vs. Andruw will be the next generation’s DiMaggio vs. Williams, but the arguments will be more equal. Why hasn’t Atlanta offered him a 10-year, $50 million deal? I don’t know. The scary part is that Andruw could take it, and be 30 when it ended.

cankles, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 00:14 (eighteen years ago)

But that's before A-Rod started juicing.
