You know I love you, but I'm playing for keeps: Your 2011 Fantasy Baseball thread!

couldn't wait any longer to start the thread!
our first official keeper year! :D

so whenever yahoo gets around to opening up fantasy for 2011 i'll renew the league and invite last year's mangers.
i know we have one person backing out this year (sad face), so if a newcomer wants Will's old team, it's yours to inherit (comes with keep eligible Hayward & McCann). if not, them and the other keep eligible guys will be up for grabs in the draft.

i liked all our stats from last year. the only thing i didn't like was that the max IP was too high. some people liked it tho - so maybe just a tiny drop? otherwise i think everything was great.

i'll aim for a draft mid-way through spring training, as usual.

what i will need to know from the managers is who your keepers are going to be, since i have to manually input that before the draft. so if you could post your keepers to this thread right after you sign up for 2011, that would be awesome.

good luck!

the keeper rules:
• total of 5 keepers
• 2 of which must be 27, 28 or 29 yrs old
• another 2 players 26 or under
• one final keeper that can be either (basically anyone under the age of 30)
• age is based on that year's opening date (Carl Crawford, for example, can be kept in the 2011 draft because he won't turn 30 until after April 3rd of that year)
• for a player to be keep-eligible he must have been drafted on draft day by your team or traded to you by a team that drafted him. that means:
• free agent/waiver pick-ups cannot be kept
• the actual keeping of players will begin with the 2011 draft
• if you keep less than 5 players - you will have a random filler pick inserted instead of a keeper. once the draft is complete you can drop that player for someone else that will count as your final draft pick (must happen right after the draft, so i can keep track of it)

corollary: if a keeper eligible player is dropped he becomes ineligible; even if picked back up by the same team that drafted/dropped him

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 30 January 2011 01:47 (fourteen years ago)

I'm cool with whatever max IP y'all wanna use.

Andy K, Sunday, 30 January 2011 01:50 (fourteen years ago)

March 11th-16th is rough for me but not impossible. or i could autodraft like gear! last year.

I was in Europe when Yahoo opened up last year, looking at my calendar that was February 11th, so the system will probably open up in two weeks or so, even though they don't say that.

sorry for starting the thread last year, i guess i jumped the gun then.

sanskrit, Sunday, 30 January 2011 02:03 (fourteen years ago)

ha ha - that's fine. if i wasn't in Tunisia/Egypt (what a prophetic trip that was, eh?!) i would have started it myself.

my team from last year has some weak options for the keepers, but it was a weak squad. i guess i'll hang on to bailey, marmol, loney, alexei ramirez. at least then i won't have to concern myself much with closers in the draft.

yeah i basically drafted all keeper-eligible guys last year. i'm gonna have to release back into the pool: clay buchholz, colby lewis, pedro alvarez, miguel montero, etc

ciderpress, Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

that is interesting news.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

At the risk of opening myself up to some CIA-level psyops, which one of these three guys would you keep?

BJ Upton
John Danks
Jacoby Ellsbury

Cobra Laser-Face (Leee), Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:18 (fourteen years ago)

Leaning towards Danks because he's a pitcher, but Upton's speed/power combo is tempting.

Cobra Laser-Face (Leee), Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:19 (fourteen years ago)

ya - it's def between those two. i think it depends on your need for pitching vs power/speed.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:20 (fourteen years ago)

i'd say that's a toss-up between upton and danks, ellsbury is trash at this point

ciderpress, Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

Porcello doesn't seem like keeper material at all -- doesn't go deep (hasn't shown he can do it), not a strikeout pitcher, etc.

Andy K, Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

Aite, my 5:

Ryan Braun 27.39
David Wright 28.3
John Danks 25.98
Madison Bumgarner 21.68
Martin Pardo 27.44

(Reviewing Thermo's rules, I kind of had to pick Danks over Upton anyway.)

Cobra Laser-Face (Leee), Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

Possibly:

Fielder
Morneau
Gallardo
Greinke
Weaver

Andy K, Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

damn son

lilwayne.quizrewards4u.com (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 30 January 2011 21:02 (fourteen years ago)

ya - those are two quality batches.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 30 January 2011 21:03 (fourteen years ago)

I have six candidates and I'm not sure which to pick, honestly. At least my two young guys (Posey and Gonzalez) will be an easy decision, but arguably my two best players (Crawford and Hamilton) will not be keeperable after this season. Verlander and Weeks are a bit younger.

polyphonic, Sunday, 30 January 2011 21:15 (fourteen years ago)

ya - those are two quality batches.

You're not referring to mine (in addition to Andy's), are you!?

Braun, Wright & Bumgarner is not bad.

Underachieving bastards/manager.

Cobra Laser-Face (Leee), Sunday, 30 January 2011 22:03 (fourteen years ago)

i'd wait until the latest possible to make a decision on morneau tbh...reports about him are still sketchy

ciderpress, Sunday, 30 January 2011 22:54 (fourteen years ago)

That's why I said "possibly."

Soria and McCutchen are other possibilities.

Andy K, Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

i would think that mccutcheon is a must-keep

lilwayne.quizrewards4u.com (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:06 (fourteen years ago)

Given what I have, McCutchen isn't top tier in enough categories (for OFs) to keep (unless Morneau remains risky). Love him, though.

Does any site track NSB (in a sortable manner)?

Andy K, Monday, 31 January 2011 00:09 (fourteen years ago)

Let me know if my math is egregiously wrong.. not my forte..

Granderson (28)
Hart (28.. probably 29 before season starts)
Kemp (26)
Ubaldo (26)
Price (25)

Looks like my OF is set. I kept Jesus Montero on my roster all goddamn year last year and Im releasing him back into the wild. Will miss u little buddy but I gotta have proven major leaguers in my stable of keepers. Was convinced he was going to be traded at the deadline last year and would be a starting C this year..

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 31 January 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)

Thermo, if one team trades a keeper-eligible player, does the other team need to send another keeper-eligible back to maintain a certain balance?

Cobra Laser-Face (Leee), Monday, 31 January 2011 02:05 (fourteen years ago)

I'll probably end up keeping:

Robinson Cano (28)
Jose Reyes (27)
Brett Anderson (23)
Matt Cain (26)

and then either

Michael Napoli (29) or Denard Span (27), depending on how much playing time Napoli is expected to get, and how much speed/power I need.

23 24 (Z S), Monday, 31 January 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)

leee - i don't see why they should need to keep balance.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 31 January 2011 03:47 (fourteen years ago)

probably:

Rasmus (24)
J Upton (23)
Ade Gonzalez (28)
K Morales (27)
Aardsma (29)

johnny crunch, Monday, 31 January 2011 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

i think i'm keeping matusz, latos, longoria and pedroia for sure.

...and then? eesh.

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

Aw sheeeeit. I knew my math was garbage. I think I can still keep Quentin right? Even tho I dont really want to, Im pretty sure I dont have anyone older than 26 other than him thats keeper eligible..

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno - how old is he?

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

I'm keeping:

Joe Mauer (27)
Ryan Zimmerman (26)
Clayton Kershaw (23)
Stephen Strasburg (22) (RIP)
Andre Ethier (28)

... unless I can somehow find space for Chad Billingsley (26). I'd seriously consider keeping him instead of Ethier if it were possible (because of age requirements). Carrying Strasburg for the entire season will sort of suck, but I guess it'll be worth it when he hopefully comes back better than ever and I can LAYETH THE SMACK DOWN ON YOU SUCKAS UNTIL 2018.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 23:45 (fourteen years ago)

that is some dedication there, brah. i commend you.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 23:48 (fourteen years ago)

I was wondering if maybe we could adapt the rules slightly so that players claimed on waivers ARE eligible as keepers but free agents aren't? I thought that might be a fun wrinkle, so that if someone discards a player the keeper eligibility isn't immediately shot.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 23:53 (fourteen years ago)

This would hypothetically apply only to the first time they go on waivers, of course.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 23:55 (fourteen years ago)

i thought about something like that (when i was crafting the rules). but i have to keep track of all of this, and while i can check back to drafts etc - i cannot see free agent/waiver moves after a few months. i want to keep this as relatively simple as possible for everyone - including me, your beloved commissioner - because once it gets too confusing (or too much work) it stops being as much fun.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 23:59 (fourteen years ago)

i would like to pick up Billingsley right now a la Rule 5 Draft.

sanskrit, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 02:14 (fourteen years ago)

Quentin was born in 82 so I think he makes the cut. My math skills are poor to say the least.

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

Thermo, I'd be happy to be your fact-checkin' cuz if that made things easier, but obv it's your call.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

It's pretty easy to see the free agent / waiver moves all the way back to the beginning of the season, fwiw

polyphonic, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

it is? you got a link? all i could find was draft results.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

Go to League > Transactions, and then you can sort by Drops and then subsort by the individual manager's team (for example) it gives you a list of every player one manager put on waivers for the season, which is a pretty quick and painless way of seeing if a player from that team's draft was ever waived. Or you can go through all the drops without subsorting.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

ya - that was there during the season, but is it still there? i thought they took that and a bunch of other stuff down. (can't check as i'm at work)

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 20:37 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, I didn't realize you were talking about after the season was over. I guess it would be tough to keep track of that stuff between the 2011 and 2012 seasons, although it would be pretty easy for me to make a list of keeper-eligibles at the end of the season.

there are 14 teams registered, only 12 have named their keepers. I'll update this list again before the draft.

fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu (Z S), Saturday, 12 February 2011 23:32 (fourteen years ago)

really torn about keeping Napoli or Span. the pre-rankings that I've seen have Napoli at around #7-8 for the catcher position (even though he'll mainly be filling a utility role in TX, he's still C-eligible), and catcher is a pretty weak position so it would tempting to just keep him, but...what if he only gets 200 PA's or something?

ok, i feel stupid for even deliberating on it for so long but I'm keeping Napoli over Denard Span. (my main concern w/ Napoli was that he'd just be platooning at 1B, but I forgot that it's the AL and he can fill in at DH too, as well as the occasional turn at catcher)

So, just to make it official, that leaves me with:

Cain
Brett Anderson
Reyes
Cano
Napoli

Gardenhire said Sunday that Morneau was scheduled to see a doctor in order to gain clearance to play in games, but he didn't have anything to add on Monday. "I have no idea," said Gardenhire. "I'm not even getting into that. That's done. Don't ask me about him anymore. You're going to start tweeting it and blogging it. That's over with."

OK Gardy that's GREAT.

is there any way to add or subtract a round to the draft? having 5 keeper picks has given us an odd number of actual draft rounds, which handicaps the people who pick late in odd numbered rounds (i.e. me)

i've done everything i needed to do. whatever yahoo lists is what they list.
Z S was awesome enough to list all our keepers upthread tho. which, aside from the Morneau/McCutchen swap, should be accurate.

when i was plugging in the keeper picks it was greying out everyone selected. going by yahoo's rankings, #s1-12 (or maybe 13) were all taken followed by a clump of old people about 5 or so deep then another half dozen more keeper pics before things meshed into more of a 50/50 ratio for a while.

I mean, is there a way to do it so that the autodraft knows your position priorities. Like, if you give it an ordered list of 10 1B, would it pickthe highest available 1B, and then the next round move on to fill another position for me? Or would it keep picking 1B until all 10 on my list were gone?

Z S, if it makes you feel any better, I came out on top of a league with a roster that began 100% auto-drafted, and I've finished second and fourth in THIS league with partially auto-drafted teams and judgments made with little/no thought due to my kids running interference.

I love the "How to Prepare For and What to Do on Draft Day" articles that tell you to go to bed early, take vitamin C, eat fruit, and ask for divine intervention ('cause you surely will be fucked otherwise).

I remember reading a similar article advising people to stay sober if everybody else was drinking at the (presumably in person) draft. Just lolling at the thought of sitting there alone, intensely shuffling papers while everybody else chills out around you.

I guess when money is involved people take it a little more seriously.

Z S, Thursday, 10 March 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

my money league last year was won by my weird astros fan friend who drafted half the astros offense and traded all his decent players away for washed up veterans and dropped Mat Latos at the end of April much to my benefit

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 March 2011 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

Good luck everyone!

I kinda thought I had a balanced team this year, unlike most years when I end up totally punting a category like SV or NSB and it ends up biting me in the ass, but now I'm looking at my hitters and realized I might be staring a .375 team SLG in the face.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 13 March 2011 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

one last time, just to be annoying - if everyone changes their "team slogan" to their ILX name it'll be way easier to track who is who

if you're into that kind of thing

Z S, Sunday, 13 March 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

Through a combination of managerial incompetence and Yahoo! inscrutability, I have ended up with four 2B-eligible guys, five 1B-eligibles, and no SS. Please make me offers. (Also looking for RP.)

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 13 March 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

i have a lot of keeper eligible dudes this year - i think i went a bit overboard in putting the "***KEEPER!!***" marker by certain players in spreadsheet!

also, for some reason mixed up Eric Hosmer with the other KC infield prospect, Mike Moustakas. Moutstakas is expected to get significant playing time this year. Hosmer is behind Billy Butler, and is expected to drink beer with his minor league friends this year.

Z S, Sunday, 13 March 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

if Hosmer mashes at AAA they could bring him up and bump Butler to DH. probably smarter of them to wait until all their pitching is ready to come up too though.

ciderpress, Sunday, 13 March 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

ya - i have a shit tonne of keepers too. how attached are you to Dunn, Z?

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 13 March 2011 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

pretty attached, because i don't really have an alternative at 1B. are you thinking of giving up butler?

Z S, Sunday, 13 March 2011 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

Given my 1B surplus, maybe we can swing a 3-way?

stronglo recommendington (Leee), Sunday, 13 March 2011 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

maybe...though not likely tbh. I was pretty ok with dunn, actually (he was my first pick) - i'd have to get a mighty sweet deal to deal him away.

Z S, Sunday, 13 March 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)

probably not going to even pay attention this year tbh, so the fact that i had to autodraft for a second year in a row and didn't really pre-rank too much isn't a big deal. done after this year, though.

Z S, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:33 (fourteen years ago)

Not exactly sure what you're asking, Jordan. Had your staff finished with 8 Ks and 0 BBs for the day, the number of Ks would merely factor into the ratio, while you'd have no additional walks to factor. If your staff had 50 Ks and 20 BBs going into today (for a K/BB of 2.5), your new ratio would be 2.9 (58/20).

Andy K, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:45 (fourteen years ago)

So, somehow I have 4 closers right now. I might be willing to deal one of them for...

1) a strong everyday catcher (in this scenario, I would throw in Michael Napoli, who is great when he plays - right now he's getting platooned yet again for no fucking reason, just like last year)

2) a strong outfielder (in this scenario, I would throw in one of my 6 outfielders to replace the outfielder that would hypothetically be dealt to me.

3) if anyone wants to take a look at my lineup and sees a deal that would make sense for both of us, let me know.

I'm about to drop Travis Snider, who is keeper eligible. It's true that he's started off the season pretty poorly, but I think he'll do fine over the course of the year - I just have a surplus of Outfielders and he's wasting space on my bench, I have another OF coming off the DL soon, so..

anyway, if anyone wants to trade let me know, I'll wait a few hours before pulling the trigger. He's keeper-eligible so I didn't want to piss anyone off by not offering him up first, just in case.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Monday, 25 April 2011 22:30 (fourteen years ago)

1) a strong everyday catcher (in this scenario, I would throw in Michael Napoli, who is great when he plays - right now he's getting platooned yet again for no fucking reason, just like last year)

serious wtf @ this. SLG .844, OPS 1.32 everyday player? Nope!

You Get Hoynes (bnw), Monday, 25 April 2011 23:00 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, idgi. he's playing a bit more often lately, so the offer is off for now, i guess. but he's still only playing maybe 3 out of every 5 games. it's baffling, and especially frustrating after i had him all last season, where mike scioscia also platooned the fuck out of him.

now i have the immortal john buck as my backup catcher, but thermo a couple weeks ago i would've given you a sweet deal for russell martin!

Royals purchased the contract of 1B Eric Hosmer from Triple-A Omaha.
Hosmer is expected to arrive in Kansas City in time for Friday's game and should get his first career major league start against the visiting A's. The promising first base prospect has been on an absolute tear at the Triple-A level, sporting a .439/.525/.582 batting line and three home runs through 118 plate appearances. He is worth grabbing in deep mixed leagues.

A Chuck Person's Guide to Mark Aguirre (Andy K), Saturday, 14 May 2011 11:34 (fourteen years ago)

I'm looking for another starter but I can't make a deal because I have no roster flexibility (i.e. too many guys on the DL and thx for getting suspended BJ Upton!)

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 14 May 2011 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

do you guys ever bench one of your SPs if they're starting against your favorite team irl? i knew i probably should have started Cueto today against the cards, but i didn't want to have to watch the game and root for him. so i sat him. and of course he dominated. :/

Z S, Saturday, 14 May 2011 23:55 (fourteen years ago)

Anyone into trading for Matt LaPorta? Hes keeper eligible and since I snagged Hosmer I kinda dont need him. He's 1B/OF. Need a decent reliever I guess..

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 21:51 (fourteen years ago)

Don't we all! I'm already sorta regretting trading Cordero, because here's what happened to my other 3 "closers" since making the deal:

- Eduardo Sanchez lost the cards closer job
- Jordan walden looks like he might lose the Angels spot soon.
- Contreras is on the DL, but since Madson is doing well it looks like closer might not be his for the taking upon return. Also, brad lidge.

D'oh!

and can i get those tips frosted, please? (Z S), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 21:56 (fourteen years ago)

Some guys on another board I post on basically say never draft closers because once the season starts its bedlam.

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 22:02 (fourteen years ago)

The problem is that with our league, most of the setup guys get drafted as well.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 22:10 (fourteen years ago)

Yep, exactly. Not only since there are so many teams in our league, but also because holds is a category.

and can i get those tips frosted, please? (Z S), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

i'm thinking i might have to toss Fowler out the airlock soon.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 19 May 2011 02:58 (fourteen years ago)

Looks like my freefall in the standings has started. I had a decent three-week run in second place with a depleted roster, which is a step up from my horrible 2010.

In most years I feel there are only about five closers whose jobs are safe and are unlikely to implode at some point during the season. If I can draft one of the five then great, if not then I might not bother drafting a closer. I've punted saves in the past because I'm more comfortable bringing in a revolving door of middle relievers who can help you in more than one category than hanging onto a closer who'll give you 25-30 SV but will kill you with a 4+ ERA and a shitty BB rate.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 19 May 2011 08:50 (fourteen years ago)

Who's got Carlos Gonzalez? Best keep an eye on the medical reports :(

Yeah I benched him for the next few days already.

polyphonic, Sunday, 3 July 2011 23:16 (fourteen years ago)

h ah haha - i always wanted to form a fantasy team based on having the fewest last names possible.
i'm 99% sure we talked about that idea a few years ago and how to best pull it off.

i've drafted all mitchell report (2nd to last), a friend tried drafting all jew (i think someone stole his youkilis) but all-Cabrera is blowing my mind right now.

sanskrit, Monday, 4 July 2011 02:16 (fourteen years ago)

During a recent Indians-Tigers game, Miguel was standing on second during a pitching change, talking to Asdrubal and Orlando, and the CF camera closed in on their backs.

A Chuck Person's Guide to Mark Aguirre (Andy K), Monday, 4 July 2011 16:59 (fourteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

that's a pretty rad trade.

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:16 (fourteen years ago)

I like Geovany Lord Sotosyn's strategy of not bothering to have a catcher at all. Maybe I should do that at 3B until Chipper gets healthy.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

I've done that in past years, it's a good strategy IMO.

xpost yeah, I like this trade (credit goes to 77 Active UZR's, who proposed it), my hitting has been awful this year so it's worthwhile gambling on keeper eligible players with upside.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 19:27 (fourteen years ago)

whoooooooooooooops, i just dropped brett anderson since he's not pitching for the rest of this year, and possibly out for all of 2012 as well. but he is technically keeper eligible, so sorry if someone would have traded for him?

future events are now current events (Z S), Saturday, 23 July 2011 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

yea re: that trade, it struck me that 2 make any sort of run this yr, saves was prob the only counting stat where maybe i could add a handful of pts w/o sacrificing too much in another category. & i felt it would make sense for both sides so im happy u said yes

johnny crunch, Saturday, 23 July 2011 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

colby does have big upside but w/ his playing time at the whim of tlr its kinda maddening in fantasy world imo

johnny crunch, Saturday, 23 July 2011 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

heh, traded in VORPed minds *and* real life!

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 29 July 2011 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

anyways - our trade dealine is almost two weeks away and i have a surplus of keepers. current needs are 2B, C and SP.
i'm on vacation in Poland right now so i might not respond right away, but i also may accept anything at the rate i'm dominating the beer/vodka here!

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 29 July 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

All of my non-Verlander starters are available, as is Dustin Ackley (who is not keeperable).

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 30 July 2011 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

I have no idea? Need to look.. My problem is I keep trying to find players who are good at alot of things but not really great at anything. Also probably handling pitching all wrong too..

HOW DARE SOMEONE ELSE HAVE MORE HOLDS THAN ME.

La Petite Mordy (Leee), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 04:40 (fourteen years ago)

Next year, I need to cut back to one team (the one in this league) and limit the maintenance. I don't think I've made any moves for either team since April -- just shuffling the lineups around whenever I remember to look.

so on the train tonight Bonita Papelbon pops into my head. good thing i googled it on my phone as tracer stuck it in Bermanisms five years ago. making it worse he was only like the seventh google result a bunch of herbs from a phish message board were all over it ranking higher than ilx.

i had to squash latos intolerant and evan loggorhea earlier in the season after seeing how common they were.

sanskrit, Thursday, 4 August 2011 02:47 (fourteen years ago)

so. i make that trade and *then* i read this about my IF safety net:

spiking Murphy hard in the process on a clean but awkward play. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Murphy has a substantial injury to his left knee and will be placed on the disabled list.

weird is one way to put it

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 August 2011 03:19 (fourteen years ago)

I don't get that trade at all.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 05:52 (fourteen years ago)

Butler is keeperable, Pujols isn't.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 06:56 (fourteen years ago)

That's why I don't get it. Why trade a keeper eligible 1B for two months of (subpar) Pujols? Unless King Felix and BBQ Show thinks he can win the league this year with Pujols.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 07:30 (fourteen years ago)

well why not then? i wasn't going to be keeping Butler - and Pujols over the last month has been much better.

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 9 August 2011 13:20 (fourteen years ago)

i might not keep Butler either.. but i have him in another OBP/OPS/BB league and for that league his real value is far greater than his 5x5 yahoo rank. the offer came in unexpectedly.. damn just noticing now he had Kimbrel up for sale. :)

sanskrit, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

won't be keeping him either!

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 9 August 2011 13:48 (fourteen years ago)

the problem is he's my only closer, so...

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 9 August 2011 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

I see, if you're already loaded with keeper eligible players then it makes sense.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

even tho he's bombed this year i'm not giving up on Heyward, and i decided i'd rather have Castro than Weiters. so that's in addition to Markakis, Hamels & King Felix. so that means Kennedy, Kimbrel and Freese are probably not sticking around.

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 9 August 2011 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

hmmm, think i'll check rotowire and see what's going on with adam dunn since he's been in a slump his last 400 at bats or so

one of the frustrating parts of this season has been the lack of playing time for mike napoli.

in only 320 AB, he's hitting .300/.397/.600, with 25 HR and 4.4 WAR.

i thought that perhaps he was getting platooned against righties, but here are his splits:

vs. right: .300/.391/.604
vs. left: .301/.410/.592

if he wasn't being benched half the time for no reason, dude might have 40-50 HR, 6-8 WAR! idgi

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 29 September 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

Wow, I jumped 11 points in the final few days and finished in 9th. What happened to the innings limit? I started benching guys toward the end of the season because I thought it would stop accumulating pitching stats once you went above 1400 IP. Or does it stop only after the day in which you pass 1400 IP? Case in point, I had 1399 IP before yesterday and benched everyone except for Strasburg.

We almost had our own version of this year's wild card races but congrats Poly, your team is more clutch than the Braves and Red Sox combined!
