Better than the Royals.

I expected big laughs from "Corky Romano" (brownie), Friday, 1 April 2011 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

Off to the bar on opening day and maybe later on play a little third base for the Tribe.

brownie, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:03 (fourteen years ago)

tbh this is the one team that might actually do worse than the royals this year

Anti-mist K-Lo (Phil D.), Friday, 8 April 2011 13:44 (fourteen years ago)

BTW brownie I watched opening day from a stool at the Winking Lizard in Coventry. I think more people were watching the Houston-Philadelphia game and the BGSU-Michigan women's softball game than were paying attention to the Tribe.

Anti-mist K-Lo (Phil D.), Friday, 8 April 2011 13:45 (fourteen years ago)

^i was at the Pub on Lee Road, just a couple of afternoon drunks but a million TVs crammed into a tiny space. later moved to the Parnell.

feel bad for wilhelmsen, dude's a bro

mookieproof, Saturday, 9 April 2011 03:37 (fourteen years ago)

Pronkville is no longer, though.

Andy K, Saturday, 9 April 2011 03:40 (fourteen years ago)

Pronk is still playing but in a cruel twist of fate "pronkville" (out in right field) has been removed for the 2011 season.

brownie, Saturday, 9 April 2011 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

oops didn't read andy's post

brownie, Saturday, 9 April 2011 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

oh, pronkville has been replaced by some sort of Subway X-treme Fresh porch

you could probably find more people in an actual Subway than right field

brownie, Sunday, 10 April 2011 00:29 (fourteen years ago)

anyway, the Tribe is pulling away from the rest of the division (+.5)

brownie, Sunday, 10 April 2011 00:30 (fourteen years ago)

really tempted to go the Orioles game next Saturday (cost in a lower box behind first base = $18)

brownie, Sunday, 10 April 2011 00:31 (fourteen years ago)

An ex-girlfriend's mother-in-law was/is the club president (or whatever) of Grady's Ladies. Wonder if they'll return.

Target Field should have a Gardy's Ladies section, obv.

Andy K, Sunday, 10 April 2011 01:37 (fourteen years ago)

^Grady is trade bait imo, Morbs what am I bid?

Ridic situ right now as I try to find the game ON MY 1954 SHORTWAVE RADIO. The Cavs seem to have every local radio station under their thumb and me without cable or FM. Apparently Duke Snider along with France has invaded the Suez Canal. Things are garbled.

brownie, Sunday, 10 April 2011 02:15 (fourteen years ago)

Hey all you advanced sabermetrics guys, answer me this: are the Indians actually good this year or are they getting a nice stretch of good luck? I'm not quite a believer yet.

never knew that cider...I haven't really followed the team, do they really have a lot of talent or are they just beating up on crap teams like the Mariners and Red Sox?

i'd be pretty surprised if that happened, they basically have only one legit great player on the roster in Choo. Santana could be a second but he has yet to play a full season.

estkella (k3vin k.), Monday, 2 May 2011 00:59 (fourteen years ago)

wtf is going on with them this year - is this just sizemore finally living up to the hype or a bunch of luck or what? i kinda figured they'd nosedive like the royals but they've sustained this all throughout april

frogbs, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

what are you talking about? sizemore was an MVP-level player from 2005-2008

ciderpress, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

and this is still small sample size afaic, they've got 2 mediocre pitchers with low-2s ERAs

ciderpress, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

the 2009 royals are most instructive here i think, they were in 1st place until mid-May even though real heads said 'they dont have enough talent' and sure enough by the end of the season they were like 65-97 or something

ciderpress, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:59 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i guess bad choice of words from my part but he's dropped off significantly in 09 and by 10 i thought a lot of ppl gave up on them

Indians need a win tonight. Don't like them going to heat stricken Texas down by 4 games.

This has been Tribe Talk for August 4th, 2011.

Haha -- what? Maybe on sports radio. 99% remember '89-'05 and/or when the staff was led by Nate Cornejo... all too well.

Maybe my frame of reference is skewed, having been surrounded by U of M football fans all my life.

Haha -- what? Maybe on sports radio. 99% remember '89-'05 and/or when the staff was led by Nate Cornejo... all too well.

I only know a handful of them but I've seen on message boards threads on the Indians/White Sox/Twins where like 50% of the posts are by the same two Tigers fans constantly telling everyone how ahead they are, how Jhonny freakin' Prealta should be the MVP, about how Verlander is God and the Phillies stand no chance, etc. etc.

frogbs, Friday, 5 August 2011 17:59 (fourteen years ago)

I mean they're spot on about Verlander but still

frogbs, Friday, 5 August 2011 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

Everyone is insufferable on message boards, though.

I give Detroit fans some credit though, even since Matt Millen got canned they have been weirdly optimistic about the Lions, you'd think their will would be broken, but they do believe.

Though a lot of them are saying "Super Bowl in 3 years", poor guys

When you're 0-for-5 with four strikeouts and find yourself at the plate with the bases loaded and the winning run on third, inch a LITTLE closer toward the plate. #protips

Kind of amazing the Indians didn't win when Phil Coke was on the mound.

that was pretty much the only way Fukudome is reaching at that point

You don't see too many games decided by a second-inning suicide squeeze.

i know santana isn't a good catcher but throwing the ball into right-center on a stolen base attempt is a bridge too far

overthrowing into centerfield happens but c'mon, when the right fielder has a play on your throw...

Jimenez had been injured in Colorado, which was eager to deal him. ... Is he hurt?

"Why?" Acta snapped back. "Because he gave up eight runs? He just didn't make pitches and got hit. The MRI came back squeaky clean. He can get up to 95 whenever he wants to."

This makes me wonder: When will he want to? In 2012? Jimenez rarely hit 95 on Sunday in a huge game for his team. But Acta is stuck -- the Indians can't tolerate the notion they might have given up their top-two pitching prospects for a damaged pitcher.

still, the Indians simply can't hit- the tigers could go .500 the rest of the way and win it no problem
