the good news: fantasy baseball is awesome and shall continue to be awesome throughout 2012.

the bad news: looks like we're contracting this year. Leeeeee and Will (iirc) are out. i'm told they are running off to start their own, three-person nerdball league with Morbs.

if any newcomers want to join - doors are open!

congrats to last year's winner, polyphonic. this year, going for the threepeat dynasty!

i'll try to pick a draft date mid-way through spring training, as usual.
and if everyone can post their keeper list to this thread by the time you sign up, that would be awesome. once the 2012 yahoo leagues open up, i'll post a link and also send out invites to the managers.

and just a refresh on the rules:
• total of 5 keepers
• 2 of which must be 27, 28 or 29 yrs old
• another 2 players 26 or under
• one final keeper that can be either (basically anyone under the age of 30)
• age is based on that year's opening date
• for a player to be keep-eligible he must have been drafted on draft day by your team or traded to you by a team that drafted him. that means:
• free agent/waiver pick-ups cannot be kept
• if you keep less than 5 players - you will have a random filler pick inserted instead of a keeper. once the draft is complete you can drop that player for someone else that will count as your final draft pick (must happen right after the draft, so i can keep track of it)

You can keep them if you drafted them or traded for them (from an owner who drafted them). If they were ever on the waiver wire then they aren't eligible.

rule is exactly as it states. Lawrie and Moore are not keep-eligible. ditto for Freese from my roster.

Yes, it was all the trash you talked about GLORP, how it wasn't even a real stat and such.

And btw, I'm taking my keepers with me, muahaha.

I have to think a bit more about who I'm keeping. Strasburg and Kershaw, obviously, Mauer and Zimmerman are also no-brainers (provided they're healthy), no idea who my fifth pick will be. Not sure if I want to give Kyle Drabek another chance, I carried his dead ass all last season because of his keeper potential.

same set-up as last year, with two important things:
• for some reason 8:30 was not available as a draft time - so right now it's at 5:30. i've emailed yahoo about this and am waiting to hear back. the day is still Sunday 25th.
• i will need to "lock" the league in order to manually input our keepers into the draft. same as last year, the deadline to sign-up and have your keepers submitted is two weeks before the draft (March 11)

to zachlyon - yes there is a spot open.
there is a team you can take over, actually, if everyone else is ok with you inheriting Leee's team and keepers, it's ok with me.

i can post his final roster and you can pick you're keeper picks from that based on the rules above.

My gut feeling is that adding a new manager (aka not just replacing one) would be strange. Like, each team is going to get up to five kept players just from Leee's roster? That seems weird to me. How would it work?

This might be a dumb question, but are last year's draft results not online anymore? Last year's rosters show the draft position for every player, but not the teams they were drafted to.

I didn't mean to stockpile so many SP's, but IMO there were a lot of good hitters not getting drafted in the early rounds, so I figured I could hold off on drafting them. In this case it really helped to be able to make back to back picks.

Yeah but he's currently the fourth starter, as far as I can tell (and has looked pretty bad at it). They brought in new guys for the 8 and 9 so they don't need him there as much as they need a starter.

As for the 3B thing I just figured that none of the guys who were left were dudes I liked that much, so I tried to pick up a few guys to stash on the DL before I grabbed filler dudes in free agency.

bard will move back to the pen eventually and be fine there and get a good number of holds

It'd be cool if Yahoo added a "records" section that would list out who holds the single day records for most home runs, strike outs, biggest jump in points in one day, best overall offensive week, etc. Not that I'd ever be on it (although the 12 runs I've got so far today are more than I've had in weeks!), but it's one of those things that could probably be added with virtually zero cost to Yahoo and would add value to the experience for users.

is there any benefit to having 4 of 5 of your sps going on the same day? seems like you go buckwild for one day then the rest of the week youre fucked. need the schedule to start breaking up these dudes' starts.

What's the difference, over the course of the week you pile up the same stats. The problem with having too many SP's going on one day is that you might have to bench a reliever or two (and lose out if they happen to pitch that day).

I have 17 QS but only five wins from my starters.

my hitting suuuuucks this year, so far. Getting a healthy Morse back into the lineup would be nice, but still.

my problem is i have no bench. just a AAAA short stop and a 1B that plays every 4 days.

There are a lot of good hitters who haven't really gotten going yet (e.g. Bautista, Pujols). So everyone seems hesitant to trade hitters until they figure out whether their guys are any good or not. I guess that's my problem too -- my hitting stats are being propped up by non-stars who I don't trust in the long term, and the guys who I expected to be good have been sort of crap.

Vogelsong finally imploded vs Washington after something like 17 straight quality starts. My hitters and pitchers have been slowly switching roles for the past month anyway (one side goes from good to bad, the other the opposite).

it took me a long time to pull the trigger, even with hamilton and cruz and burnett in return. i'm already doing relatively well in hitting, especially the power categories, so i'm not sure about the extra upside i'll gain there. also, i only have 3 players who will be 26 or younger next year (dropping shelby miller today after stupidly keeping him on my roster all year - won't do that again!) , so losing zimmerman means i'll be keeping lance lynn instead. lynn's good, but i see zimmerman as a really reliable, perennial deserving all-star for the next several years.

fuuuuuck, looks like yadier molina (my catcher) might be out for a while. no word yet, but he got knocked down HARD on a play at the plate a little bit ago and was taken out of the game. i, typically, have no backup catcher.

i'm going to wait until i heard word on the injury, but if he's out, i'll be looking for a catcher, and willing to trade Aaron Hill, who is having a great year at 2B, but unfortunately not quite as good as Robinson Cano, my starting 2B.

imagine trying to convince someone in April that some of the best players in 2012 would include RA Dickey, Edwin Encarnacion and Mike Trout

It's pretty amazing how my team is just treading water in the middle of the pack despite being amazingly bad offensively. I feel likei go weeks without a multiple homer day. And lately I'm just dropping bench players just to watch their expression change. I should just start thinking about keepers now.

My team finally lived up to its name when suddenly half my lineup got injured and was day-to-day but NOT on the DL (= not accumulating stats). I've been slowly shedding points all month and now I'm probably out of it, although it was fun while it lasted :(

nothing in particular, although I'm sure other people would have good ideas. I think ditching fielding percentage might be a good idea, since it's the one category I pay literally no attention to and it seems like a crapshoot. in a sense, GIDP is kind of a crapshoot too, but at least it seems more tangible, I notice it more, and it's the stat i love to hate (YADI, QUIT HITTING INTO DOUBLE PLAYS). Whereas i always forget fielding percentage even exists as a category.

i drafted Crisp thinking he would balance out Castro's brutal glove. that backfired, to put things mildly. that was also my first time truly giving a shit about either stat, so obviously won't miss it if we replace one with something else.

but really, i just totally lucked out this season. i drafted lance lynn as a kind of afterthought, and even though his ERA and WHIP and K/BB wasn't off the charts, he did manage to get 18 wins and a ton of strikeouts. cueto turned in a great season as well, unexpectedly. i figured he was due to regress. matt cain (CAIN) did his cain thing, which was nice. and on the hitting side, aramis ramirez was a really nice surprise (i expected to drop him by may or something), and of course yadi.

I completely lost steam and interest this year but I might have it again next year. haha. Having my fucking power turn off 30 minutes before the draft didnt help my enthusiasm.

My team waited until September to be true to its name (everybody injured, almost nobody on the DL) but it was a fun ride, I even got to be in first for most of August. I might have lost ground over the last month but there was no way I was going to catch any team with 190+ points ... that's just too good. Congrats Z_S and CAIN!

Thanks also to Thermo for handling commish duties this year. We've got to get you on one of those year-to-year/lifetime contracts like Selig has!

Hopefully I'll be back paying closer attention to baseball next year, getting sober took priority. Will be back competing next year! Congrats Z_S!
