Tim Lincecum's All New In-n-Out-Free Nutritional System (Panda take not) -- 2010 World Champions San Francisco Giants 2012 thread

Sweet jaysis Timmy:

Needless to say, Tiny Tim isn't so tiny anymore. Lincecum is now admitting that his love for fast food contributed to his 40-pound weight gain over the last year. He was his heaviest in October, when the 5-foot-11 player weighed a whopping 196 pounds.

So much for erotic languor. -_-

anyways i think one of the biggest news stories is Andrew Baggarly is no long the San Jose Mercury News beat writer but is now working for CSN Bayarea.

he wrote this today:

In case you hadn’t heard, Aaron Rowand, now a non-roster player in Florida Marlins camp, was able to get his familiar No. 33. The player who gave it up was none other than Scott Cousins, the baserunner who injured Buster Posey with his spearing collision at the plate May 25.

Cousins decided to switch to No .6, saying it was in homage to J.T. Snow – his favorite Giant while growing up a huge fan of the team.

Here’s the weirdest part: It was Snow, remember, who once famously collided with a catcher in Florida – Pudge Rodriguez – in a failed effort to knock the ball out of his glove. The play was the final out as the Marlins clinched the NL Division series in 2003.

so Giant fans how do you feel about this years team?

Bee OK, Monday, 27 February 2012 07:00 (thirteen years ago)

my opinion is they are going to be right there but they won't have enough firepower to put them over the hump. this is such a great window with our pitching but at 130 million they just didn't spend enough to really make that impact.

Bee OK, Monday, 27 February 2012 07:02 (thirteen years ago)

personally i wish they retained Carlos especially since we gave up a Wheeler but he was such a pre-madonna that maybe we are better off without him.

Bee OK, Monday, 27 February 2012 07:05 (thirteen years ago)

the nl west is mediocre as all get out this year. no team had a compelling off-season except san diego. anyone can take it - except LA. they are hot garbage. =\

wolves in our wounds (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 27 February 2012 18:28 (thirteen years ago)

this time last year i thought they could win the division in 2011. looking back, i still don't think it was an unreasonable prediction and they are still a team loaded with talent.

i'm so glad it spring training:

The Rockies pounced on Lincecum in the first two innings, scoring five runs as the former two-time Cy Young Award winner struggled with his command.

The Giants ace gave up five runs on seven hits to the 13 batters he faced. In the first inning, he threw 29 pitches and yielded a lead-off homer to Charlie Blackmon and two-run triple to Michael Cuddyer.

His struggles continued in the second as he gave up two-run single to Carlos Gonzalez.

"I felt fine, said Lincecum. "I felt like my times to the plate were good. Both innings were kind of rough, obviously.

"Just one of those things where you've got to eliminate the fact that you're trying to get super competitive out there and trying to get outs and really focus on what you're trying to work on," Lincecum said. "I wanted to just keep throwing my fastball and hopefully pound the zone with that. At times I thought I got changeup-happy."

Brewers OF Nyjer Morgan Hit In Head By Pitch

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan left Saturday’s spring training game with the San Francisco Giants after being hit in the head by a Barry Zito pitch, according to MLB.com.

Morgan stayed in the game to finish the inning, even playing the field, but he was replaced the following inning.

Brewers spokesperson Mike Vassallo said Morgan was removed while pretending to be in pain to make Zito feel a little better as a precaution.

Office Tebow (Leee), Sunday, 25 March 2012 22:08 (thirteen years ago)

A former employee of the Giants, convicted late last year of wire fraud as part of a scheme to embezzle funds from the team, was sentenced to 21 months in prison and ordered to play $1.4 million.

Robin M. O'Connor, who worked as the club's payroll manager, transferred $2.2 million into her personal bank account, according to court records.

Monday she tearfully apologized to family, friends and the team.

The judge ordered O'Conner to pay more than $1.4 million to the Giants and forfeit two cars prosecutors say she bought with the stolen money. She previously paid back $960,000.

O'Connor, 42, processed payroll for Giants employees, including players, and was responsible for making changes to amounts of money sent to employees' bank accounts.

Giants executives confronted O'Connor last July after being notified by Bank of America that she was applying for a loan and had recently received two large deposits from the Giants.

According to court documents, she admitted to the embezzlement and was immediately fired. She was charged in federal court July 7.

are they really going to send brandon belt down again

mookieproof, Saturday, 31 March 2012 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

Belt leads the entire team now in AVG (.407) and OBP (.446). He’s third in slugging (.678) behind Hector and Melky, and he’s second in OPS (1.124) behind Hector. Now, I know ST numbers “don’t matter”, but if that kid hasn’t earned a job then nobody has — except maybe Hector.

*sigh*

Send him off to Fresno then, go ahead. Break Twitter, see if we care. He’ll just dismantle that league and (hopefully) be right back up anyways.

i LOVE this deal, the Giants had to sign Cain there were no if, and or buts about it. he has never been injured and is an innings eater, his win loss record is not something to go with because he never really got run support.

LOVE this deal, thank you Giants front office!

Bee OK, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 02:03 (thirteen years ago)

Cain deserves to get paid a lot, for sure. But that is a pretty huge contract.

The plus side is that he's a bull and has pitched 1300 major league innings at 27. The down side is that he's already pitched 1300 innings at 27.

(Having said that, he's one of my favourite pitchers, so I'm pleased for him)

Votto deal definitely makes every other deal this winter (except for the sale of the Dodgers) seem great by comparison.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

i think you have to understand this from a fans point of view. the Giants ownership said that keeping this pitching staff was the number one goal. they spent no money on any bat whatsoever this off-season. they let Carlos go for only $13 million a year and lost Wheeler on top of that for that, fine. so us fans wanted Cain mainly because he is home grown and we have watched him grow up before our eyes. he is our guy and he really wanted to stay and would not take a discount because he signed two home town discounts the last two times. the Giants are not small market anymore, 130 plus million and growing, they had to get this deal done. did they over pay, well yes but i look at it like they are not just rewarding him for the future but for the past as well. i'm very happy that we kept him from going to the Dodgers or some East Coast team and the fans are very happy as well.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 04:46 (thirteen years ago)

plus Cain would have gotten more if he waited for free agency next off-season.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 04:50 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think anyone's begrudging you that. it's more of a question whether that money might have been better spent on a bat, etc.

it's definitely tough giving up something you already have, but successful teams have to be willing to do that if they can pick up something else/better instead.

mookieproof, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 04:52 (thirteen years ago)

We understand this from an everyfan PoV where emotion and superficial responses are key. From a strict value PoV it's less obviously great, partly because of the return Cain must (and could well deliver) on a $ basis and partly, as Mookie says, the opportunity cost.

Mark C, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 10:17 (thirteen years ago)

Bee OK you managed to squeeze every fan cliche defense of a ridiculous (thankfully for Giant's fans it's really not that ridiculous) contract into that paragraph. Bravo.

the Giants have signed Madison Bumgarner to a five-year, $35 million contract extension. he will probably be around for a lot longer than that though.

i meant with the Giants as there are options that Madison or the Giants will probably pick up.

the Aubrey Huff statement, get well.

Thank you to the fans, media and Giants organization for the outpouring of support during this very difficult week. I’m especially grateful for the texts and calls from my teammates, who are like my brothers and have let me know they’re here for me.

My goal is to get back on the field as soon as possible. To do that, I have to focus completely on getting well. I know I’m in a public job, and I’ve been one of the more open guys. But sometimes you have to pull back and work on things in private. This is one of those times.

I appreciate your understanding and patience."

Pot Leeedom (Leee), Friday, 18 May 2012 02:34 (thirteen years ago)

from Baggs:

The Giants added an experienced arm on Friday, signing veteran major league pitcher Bred Penny to a minor league contract.

Penny threw off a bullpen mound Friday to the satisfaction of pitching coach Dave Righetti, manager Bruce Bochy and GM Brian Sabean. He will report to extended spring camp in Arizona on Monday, vice president Bobby Evans said via text message.

Penny was added "as a candidate to help us out of the bullpen," Evans wrote.

The Giants are down two right-handers from their opening-day bullpen, following Guillermo Mota's 100-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance and closer Brian Wilson's season-ending right elbow surgery.

Penny, who turns 34 on Thursday, is a veteran of 12 major league seasons. He was 11-11 with a 5.30 ERA last season in 31 starts for the Detroit Tigers. He averaged a career-high 11.0 hits per nine innings and a career-low strikeout rate of 3.7 per nine innings. Right-handed batters hit .345 against him.

Bee OK, Saturday, 19 May 2012 03:56 (thirteen years ago)

http://sports.cbsimg.net/images//visual/whatshot/Melky.gif

Bee OK, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 05:25 (thirteen years ago)

Cabrera’s throw in the first inning was a thing to behold. He caught Nyjer Morgan’s fly ball in what looked to be a few steps deep of medium left field and heaved a throw to the plate that arrived on a line. The throw had to have the perfect angle to avoid the runner. It was also just up the line enough for Posey, who was positioned very wide in fair territory to avoid getting leveled. Aoki appeared stunned when he was tagged out.

Cabrera, the understated showman, held up two fingers and kissed them.

Just now realized my post this morning was on the Giants thread--was thinking it was the Dodgers thread when I posted. Considering the long-standing love and affection between these two franchises, maybe not the best place for it.

clemenza, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 17:06 (thirteen years ago)

Nobody in baseball was hotter this month. Period.

Oh, others had great months, but from start to finish Cabrera was as good as it gets. He hit .429 in May with three homers, five triples, seven doubles and 51 hits. FIFTY-ONE. That tied Randy Winn’s San Francisco-era franchise record. He also drove in 17 runs, scored 24 times, stole four bases and played flawless defense in left.

At the moment, Cabrera ranks first in the majors in hits (78), second in batting average (,373), first in triples (6) and sixth in total bases (114). Truly a remarkable month, any way you care to slice it.

Bee OK, Friday, 1 June 2012 03:39 (thirteen years ago)

the amount of run support Cain gets is criminal

johnathan lee riche$ (mayor jingleberries), Sunday, 3 June 2012 16:06 (thirteen years ago)

You're not kidding. I went through ESPN's yearly leaders, and here's Cain going back to 2006:

2006 (the one year he got decent run support): 22nd out of 41 ERA qualifiers
2007: last out of 43
2008: last out of 45
2009: 39th out of 46
2010: 36th out of 45
2011: 48th out of 50
2012: 55th out of 64

Which explains the disconnect between a 3.31 career ERA (8th among active pitchers) and the .500 W-L record.

the Giants have only taken the series once from the Braves, at their park, since it has opened in 1997. regular season only. it has been a nightmare but playoff have been different as the Giants have always won.

they need to turn that around. score right now is 1-1, while the Giants have taken the first game.

Will be interested to see if the Braves try to put one in Melky's earhole next month on their west coast trip. I assume he's doing that "make up an imaginary enemy" thing with the Braves that athletes sometimes do to stay motivated.

Neil Jung (WmC), Friday, 20 July 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

so i'm watching tonight game on DVR right now.

it's very surreal as there are bats that are flying in front of the center field camera tonight. in light of what happened in the last 24 hours with the Batman movie.

Bee OK, Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:51 (thirteen years ago)

4 of 6 road trip. will take that every single time during the regular season.

Bee OK, Sunday, 22 July 2012 23:38 (thirteen years ago)

i have never seen this before. Padres LF catch's a ball on one-hop but the third base umpire called him out. they go to a commercial break, then the umpire huddled up and overturned the call. credited back to a base hit and run scored. the umpires did get it right i just have never seen a overturn of a call like that.

screw it, my silence on ILB is over and i need to vent.

first i heard about this from Andrew Baggarly about three weeks ago. he reported it and then got slammed because he would not say his source. when they asked the Milkman about it he first said what is the source, not oh no that has to be wrong. well then Baggs took a beating, people were saying how could he say something like that if it's just an internet rumor. well Baggs was not wrong and the truth has come out.

Bee OK, Thursday, 16 August 2012 03:24 (twelve years ago)

this is probably a blessing as Melky Cabrera was pricing himself out of the budget for the San Francisco Giants. people were saying enjoy while you can because he is going to be too expensive for next year.

Bee OK, Thursday, 16 August 2012 03:26 (twelve years ago)

the Giants will be fine as they are the best team in the NL West. the Dodgers have been playing over their heads, should come back down to earth, they don't have that good of a pitching staff and have the best luck of any team this year.

but some teams just ride that wave all year long.

it the Dodgers so they won't!

Bee OK, Thursday, 16 August 2012 03:29 (twelve years ago)

so it's time to step up, this team with either rise to this occasion or let this be an excuse.

pitching matchups for this series look good.. too bad the dodgers have been shitty at home. last successful road trip they had they followed up by getting swept by AZ.

johnathan lee riche$ (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 20 August 2012 17:03 (twelve years ago)

this should be fun mayor, just got home. what a 2-1 game tonight?

Bee OK, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 01:57 (twelve years ago)

Madison Bumgarner outduel Clayton Kershaw last night but the manager let him throw like 135 pitches. not good, not good at all this late in the season.

hoping for a win tonight but Lincecum is pitching so this could be ugly.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 02:06 (twelve years ago)

re Giants feed: — According to Comcast, last night’s game was the highest-rated game on the network since the final game of the 2010 regular season.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:10 (twelve years ago)

already have 3 and Matt Cain hasn't even thrown his first pitch.

Bee OK, Thursday, 23 August 2012 02:24 (twelve years ago)

the best out come was a sweep, didn't expect it in a million years. that was rather BIG. the Giants just wanted it so much more this series. they have pitching, some of the best in the NL.

Bee OK, Thursday, 23 August 2012 05:59 (twelve years ago)

dodgers didnt do shit in this series.. the top 4 in the order stunk on ice..

johnathan lee riche$ (mayor jingleberries), Thursday, 23 August 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago)

so now a four game series with the Braves, both teams have something to prove. this should be a lot of fun.

Bee OK, Monday, 27 August 2012 00:24 (twelve years ago)

when we won the first two, i expected a let down. knew that they were going to lose game three. thing was Lincecum pitched the last game and they lost. the baseball gods are on our side as now we go to Houston and Chicago. should and need to go over .500 on this road trip.

Bee OK, Monday, 27 August 2012 03:26 (twelve years ago)

Today’s win ended a second straight 5-1 road trip for a team that's now 19-6 on the road in the second half.

Bee OK, Monday, 3 September 2012 06:22 (twelve years ago)

yeah it was against the Astros (RIP) and the Cubs. they are suppose to win these games and they did just that.

Bee OK, Monday, 3 September 2012 06:24 (twelve years ago)

just can't beat the D-backs these last couple of years.

luckily it does not matter and goes down as just another day.

Bee OK, Thursday, 6 September 2012 05:08 (twelve years ago)

so not we have a three game series against out arch rivals. if we take only one we will be fine. if it's two then we win and if it's three than we will put the in the dagger...

Bee OK, Friday, 7 September 2012 04:48 (twelve years ago)

so now it's on. should be a fun three game series against the Dodgers.

Bee OK, Saturday, 8 September 2012 02:07 (twelve years ago)

Bochy had Matt Cain pitch into the seventh. 106 pitches total tonight, 18 added in the seventh. the Giants already have the West won, there is no reason to stretch him out tonight. 88 pitches through six with a 7 to 1 lead, game over, coach has Cain pitch through the seventh even though the game was already won.

Bee OK, Thursday, 20 September 2012 05:28 (twelve years ago)

so i thought there is no way Bochy would put Cain back in the game.

wrong, Cain ended up pitching yet another inning and threw 116 pitches tonight. again, the Giants have pretty much won the West. i really don't like the way he manages games...

watching Posey right now is fun. he went 1 for 2 with a walk an a RBI. he could have had one more a bat but Coach did take him out when he was up next.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 05:07 (twelve years ago)

though he kept Pence in however.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 05:08 (twelve years ago)

BTW God speed Dusty Baker, even though this should go in the Reds thread.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 06:21 (twelve years ago)

Bee, should Timmy be on the postseason roster?

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago)

Zito is, right?

Bee, should Timmy be on the postseason roster?

i thinking after last nights game, no. he just has no idea where the ball is going and no confidence in himself. i think he will get one or two more starts and if there is no improvement they will have to not put him on the roster.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:20 (twelve years ago)

Zito is, right?

according to Bochy, all five starters are going to be on the post season roster. Bochy is so bull headed he will stick to his guns but the playoffs are different. hope that he looks at the big pitcher, which i think he will, and for the betterment of the team pick the best players. not the ones who he personally loves.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:22 (twelve years ago)

had no idea Freak was goin that bad

kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:54 (twelve years ago)

he has actually improved since the all-star game. then last night he went back to where he once was. he didn't get out of the fourth inning last night and gave up like six runs. all those feel good starts against sub .500 teams, now that feeling is gone.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 September 2012 03:08 (twelve years ago)

Posey just got his 100 RBI. has gone 1 - 2 so far. i also think he just tied McCutchen's batting average.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 September 2012 03:54 (twelve years ago)

http://www.csnbayarea.com/baseball-san-francisco-giants/giants-talk/Bochy-Were-moving-forward-without-Melky?blockID=780113&feedID=2796

Bochy confirmed on Thursday morning that Melky Cabrera would not be a part of the club’s postseason roster.

i think this is a horrible decision. he did his time and has paid the price. so the Giants would rather go into the post season with a guy with a bum shoulder and some guy that the Nationals cut earlier this year. they could pick up a guy who played all but 50 games with them and was an All Star MVP. play the best guys available.

Bee OK, Friday, 28 September 2012 03:00 (twelve years ago)

c'mon Giants fan, what do you think of our chances?

Bee OK, Friday, 28 September 2012 03:02 (twelve years ago)

btw, Posey went 2 for 4 to raise his average to .333 and claim the highest batting average in the league.

WoW

Bee OK, Friday, 28 September 2012 03:03 (twelve years ago)

Posey first at bat tonight, a triple. his first of the year. i think he might want that MVP this year.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 September 2012 02:24 (twelve years ago)

and now Posey just hit a double.

incredible!

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 September 2012 03:40 (twelve years ago)

the Padres intentionally walked him in his next a bat.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 September 2012 04:22 (twelve years ago)

they should have just let the game play out. yes they had a open base, as the Panda was on second base. why, however, just pitch to him if he does something special than let it be...

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 September 2012 04:24 (twelve years ago)

They struck the next guy out.

timellison, Saturday, 29 September 2012 17:39 (twelve years ago)

Posey first at bat tonight, a single.

Bee OK, Sunday, 30 September 2012 00:46 (twelve years ago)

btw, happy birthday Tim Flannery as he turns 55 today.

Bee OK, Sunday, 30 September 2012 00:48 (twelve years ago)

Posey second at bat tonight, another single.

the guy is on fire!

Bee OK, Sunday, 30 September 2012 01:30 (twelve years ago)

listening to Dick Enberg tonight is kind of a trip...

Bee OK, Sunday, 30 September 2012 01:37 (twelve years ago)

i finally agree with a Bochy move, he is taking out Madison early in this game. this game doesn't matter, good move Boch.

Bee OK, Sunday, 30 September 2012 02:02 (twelve years ago)

Posey walked in his next at bat.

Average is now .337 McCutchen batting average is now at .328.

Bee OK, Sunday, 30 September 2012 02:13 (twelve years ago)

Posey is up by nine and only five game left. almost over.

Bee OK, Sunday, 30 September 2012 02:13 (twelve years ago)

this game doesn't matter

Thought they were still trying for home field advantage?

timellison, Sunday, 30 September 2012 05:07 (twelve years ago)

no the Giants are pretty much the number three spot. there was a way to jump higher but for about 10 days now it was a forgone concussion.

Bee OK, Monday, 1 October 2012 02:29 (twelve years ago)

only three games reminding. it will be fun to watch Posey.

also to knock out the Dodgers will be a bit satisfying.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 02:12 (twelve years ago)

Posey just doubled and got another RBI. pretty close to being out.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 02:15 (twelve years ago)

out as in home run...

Bee OK, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 02:16 (twelve years ago)

so Posey is most likely going 1 for 4 tonight, the same as McCutchen.

i can't see Posey losing the Batting Title this year with only two games remaining.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 04:39 (twelve years ago)

batting average title that is.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 04:46 (twelve years ago)

Posey first plate appearance a home run.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 02:28 (twelve years ago)

i love the fact that the Giants are going to end the Dodgers hopes.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 04:15 (twelve years ago)

so, so happy to knock out the Dodgers. i guess i really am a Giants fan.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 05:40 (twelve years ago)
