i'd rather keep fielding % - i know it's kind of a flawed stat but it's an important part of the game that's normally overlooked in these things. if you can think of a better way to reward having players who actually take to the field and hold their own out there - i'm totally open to suggestions.

Inherited Runners Scored is some unfair bullshit. GIDP is completely valid. Hitter strikeouts I could go either way. I'm loving triples, cycle hitting, and no-hitters, completely random shit is hilarious.

I don't really know what I'm doing as far updating, do you guys update every day? I can't find specific rules like how many times you can bench players (because it seems like there's a limit)?

you can bench a guy as often as you like.
sometimes some leagues have transaction limits (like how many times you can drop a player and add another) - but as far as i'm aware our league doesn't have that.

i check my lineup every morning and usually try to check everyone's playing that should be a little before 7 (east coast at least) - when the lineups are posted.
but that's going to end once i go on vacation.

i guess, as the commissioner, i should give you guys a heads up i'll be in south america for 18 days starting on the 16th. so if you need me - post to the league message board, i'm going to try to check when i can, but it will be sporadic.

^examine your players using PHRENOLOGY and GAME THEORY make some executive decisions

Quails, you can juggle your lineup as much as you want, sit/start depending on pitching matchups, etc. The Opponents tab on your team page is useful, and the Research tab can be sometimes as well. Nothing like sitting a guy and then watching him go 4-for-5 from the bench for hair-pulling stress, though.

Looking at your team page, it looks like you only got credit for 2 of Santana's 3 wins because he was on your bench for one of them...? Not sure. I check my team page obsessively, but I work at home and need to get a life.

I guess Gear has tanked his team? He never even moved Kelvim Escobar to the bench, never mind to the DL.

Francis, look at the bottom of your team page for a Maximum Games chart. Depending on the league you're in, you might have an upper games/innings limit to prevent managers from racking up obscene counting stats by playing more than 162 games at a given position. Once you hit the max, you can play anyone at that position, but his stats won't count.

Also, I looked over Rock's roster because I have a surfeit of awesome OFers, but HIS TEAM SUCKS.

I mean, compared to my powerhouse. Sixth place is all right, I suppose.

I made that waiver claim pretty much right after I picked CI up and forgot to substitute a different player after the fact.

I didn't need to replace my backup catcher with another backup catcher (who still doesn't have C eligibility): I needed saves, and you didn't have any to give. Now that CI seems to have blossomed into a starting catcher I feel like shit about it, but what can you do.

yeah, it's crazy how many teams there are in this league. you really want to hold on to dudes until you're sure they're toast. i'm in another league half this size and the depth is ridiculous.

We had the full slate of 20 teams in 2005-6! In terms of depth, I think the difference between an eight and a fifteen team league is less than that between a fifteen and twenty team league. You might not have the best choices on the waiver wire in a fifteen team league (basically you need to decide which underperforming star is most likely to get his shit together) but in a twenty team league you'd be lucky to find ANY everyday starters, pitching or hitting, so you're kind of fucked if one of your players goes on the DL.

Sometimes I wonder if it isn't a net loss to field a catcher at all, if the catcher isn't top-10 at the position.

You guys should see my league with 20 teams and 30-player team rosters (27 starters!). The final round of the draft was hilarious:

I guess I'm asking, do you tweak your lineup every day according to pitcher matchups? (That question goes out to everybody.)

Not every day, but a couple times per week based on who's been "hot" the last week, Bill James be damned. I benched Ichiro because I don't pay attention to baseball.

i do (look @ pitching matchups) & tweak daily. i'd like to look at other things also like home/road splits etc. but almost never do.

i only do match-ups if the pitcher is very nasty. Otherwise I usually manage myself out of points. playing your best players no matter what is usually the best way to go I find.

That's what I usually do too, which is why I was all nervous about sitting Phillips. I only managed myself out of one hit and one RBI with that decision, coulda been worse. I've done a lot worse by continuing to play Yunel Escobar the last week or so, whadda joke.

Scratch the 3B category in that list above. Lack of a player can only hurt in counting stats, duh.

I picked up Guerrier, duly lit up. Dumped both those jabronies for Durbinator and Russ Springer, and while the latter has been ok, the Durbinator in his first two actions for me promptly throw up 3 runs in 2.2 innings, with 3 walks and 3 hits allowed. And oh yeah, I can't really give up on Putz because maybe just maybe he'll get himself right and be a real closer again.
