I just think that if someone made the equivalence between Q and Judaism, or Q and Islam, it wouldn't really fly. But somehow when it's a minority religion and social practice, it's cool for laffs.

Judaism is an ethnic religion, the others are not. I don’t think we should systematically assume the worst every time someone jokes about a religion other than Christianity, but I come from a different cultural background, so make of that what you will.

There are not very many mods. Mostly we don't need very much moderation in this forum these days. When the need does arise - particularly overnight - it might take a minute.

I forgot about his homeless post. he was weird in that he seemed like a bot at times but then posts that hateful stuff randomly amidst the harmless stuff.

i am getting an odd thing: which is that the literary clusterfucks thread is telling me i am not logged in -- i tried getting an updated password the normal way (via email from stet) but after deploying it literary clusterfucks keeps me logged out and unable to post to it. however i continue to be logged into and can post as per usual* to e.g. the cryptids thread

to be clear i dont currently want to post to the literary clusterfucks thread so this is the definition of a non-urgent issue, but it does seem odd? (everything is happening on my one and only laptop, by design i am not logged in on my phone and plan never to be)

We've had a few glitches like that from other users and other threads - unfortunately stet's the only one of us who really gets what's going on under the hood, I don't really get what causes it or what can be done.

Concerned About The US Government bookmark is stuck at the top of the page even though I’ve bookmarked it multiple times. Not happening with any other thread.

Weird question but I got a Google alert that my ILX password was exposed in a data breach, and my account is "at risk"??? That's especially weird bc my ILX pw is the one that system assigned and is not related to any other password I've used anywhere, ever.

Err...any idea how I should understand this?

Oof, I'm afraid I have no idea - the only things I can think of are a) somebody else had the same random password generated somewhere else that was subject to a data breach (I might be completely misunderstanding how these things work but I think alerts get lists of passwords that have been hacked and then notify users with those passwords? Maybe?) or b) we *have* had a data breach somewhere but don't know it. Or, I guess, c) it's a spurious alert, but I don't know how likely that would be.

My advice either way is to change your password if you can - I know a lot of users don't have access to their email accounts from when they signed up here, but if you do then definitely do that. That's basically all the help I can be, so hopefully either stet or WmC or a non-mod person who actually understands what's going on can chip in with something more useful.

can you vaporize this post from the Slow Horses tv show thread, which seems to exist to just ruin a future plot point from the books? a bit late for me and others, but some people might not have seen S6 yet and are going through the thread as they watch, not expecting book spoilers to be dropped, and since i think it was strictly posted to ruin the plot point for people, it should be deleted on principle.

it's the thread for the TV show and at the time it was posted, S6E6 was a several weeks away from airing. i had just speculated about the character's future after a scene in episode 3, she had read the books and decided to spoil it.

anyway, as someone who has gone through TV show threads before at a later date, following along only up to the point episodes i watched have aired, i'm trying to prevent people getting spoiled in the future.

I have made a compromise edit that will make no-one happy.
