Zing problems

2 things:

Can't see 77 on zing
As of today, getting an error message whenever I try to post via zing

Means you're not logged in. Have you changed your password recently? Go into the account screen and hit save, see if it works then.

Keep using it for a whole after that, there's a bug in the live version that means it takes a few minutes to save the new password to disk. (or you can just reinstall from the App Store to fix)

Instance should be ILX right?

Yeah. Check you don't have a trailing slash on the server bit too.

i keep getting the error message about not being able to post, "possibly because of a login problem" or something like that? i've logged out and logged back in to zing, deleted the app and redownloaded it, and i still get the same message. i know my login obv because i'm posting here. what else should i try?

Recent update made things break on iPhone SE :(
The preview text is spilling all over the titles and everything's just crammed together on top of everything else

i figured out the solution for my problem upthread: if i delete the s=21 from the end of twitter links, they post fine. if i don't i still get the error message

Where do you get those links from? The mobile site gives me plain ones.

I dont seem to see ILM, and when i go to ILX Boards header to select faves, its not there (though quite a few are there twice?).

yeah, that happened to me recently but with ile - i had to delete the app and reinstall to get it to come back

if you swipe on a board to delete it then it can be very hard to get it back, sorry. delete + reinstall sorts

bookmarks weren’t loading in Zing so i logged out but now it doesn’t recognise my uname/pswd

ah n/m just used my old email address and it worked! still no bookmarks tho

i can't remember if i've asked this or not, but is there a way to change my login email address? i can change the email address in preferences, but that doesn't affect my login email

Unrelated, but I’ve noticed in the latest version that if I click a URL in a post, when I use the “Back” at screen top left I always get a blank screen with a hazard triangle, and have to press back again.

Can you add the newish board Je Déteste Tout to zing? It doesn't show up as in "show all boards" and its threads only appear on zing if I have them bookmarked.

Zing has given up on French as of Sund4r’s post of an hour ago - « Nous voilà enfin débarrassés de tous ces amateurs » can only be opened in Safari now.

the font size is different in posts and reading threads, but is fine on post subjects and board listings etc. Should I reinstall?

It looks like attempting to vote in a poll makes the app crash, fyi. Could just be my phone but that's the first time I've had the app turf out and it did each time I tried.

Sometimes I type something and then highlight it (to apply italics or a link), and all the text disappears?

Having a new issue: if I type until I reach the bottom of the window, it doesn’t “scroll,” and I can no longer see what I’m typing (the text disappears beneath the keyboard).

Hate it when that happens, especially when I accidentally do the swipe & erase. Sometimes I can switch to landscape mode, although last time I tried that zing died.

I am not entirely on board with zing now intuiting how to format text between slashes or text between asterisks

My opinion is that displaying format according to bbcode is fine but automatically converting non-bbcode “formatting” is trying too hard

stet, the bookmarks are still a bit out of order... am i correct in thinking they should be ordered by date post was first created? I'm regularly getting a few shuffling in at the bottom from 2020. Not a problem by any means but wondering what that means in terms of the code.

Is there a known issue with Zing and bookmarking? I'm working my way through the Silicon Valley thread as I catch up on the show, and my slowly shifting bookmark works fine on a browser, returning to me chat about the episode I've just watched, but on Zing, it always takes me to the last 100 messages (starting Nov 4, 2019).

This has always been the Zing way. I have been living with it but you are right to complain.

I’m frequently getting cookie preference windows now on links from iOS Zing that can’t be cleared - only way to view the link is to force it to open the link in Safari

You can tap on the individual posts to read them as formatted, when you see that happening

I still can't view Guardian articles in Zing on my iPhone 11 Pro because the cookie acceptance button is not accessible. Screenshots from top and bottom of scrollable cookie splash below. Can't click on sign-in link either

Just found a workaround that is semi-permanent (rather than forcing open in external browser each time): if I tap on the partners list I can accept all cookies from that screen and now my cookie seems to be set.

sometimes you can access a little sliver of a cookie-acceptance button if you rotate the orientation of your screen. this comes up periodically with different links. honestly what i would really love in zing is a setting where i can set links to default open outside of zing in an app instead (web browser, youtube, whatever). not tech savvy so no idea if that's an easy thing to do but seems like it might be?

OK this is double-fixed in the new version - links open in a proper browser view inside Zing (so no cover-up of cookies settings), and there's a preference setting to always open them in your system browser. In testing now, should be released soon

You can still get to the full composer by going into an individual post and hitting the reply button. (If you clear the quoted text it’s literally the old composer). But yes, better option coming soon.

So the new US economy thread that ends with % won’t load anymore for me, and when I search for threads or answers with % as the only character I get zero results. Interesting.

I have solved this problem with the engine by turning up the radio (changing the thread title)
