Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:53 (sixteen years ago)

New ILX motto^^^^^^

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:53 (sixteen years ago)

HI DERE, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

A. is so frustrated because two of the people on his team have left and he has a ton of work, but it's not programming; it's some other kind of computer bullshit. Plus, it's here not there. I'm just sayin, though!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

bye dan

max, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:57 (sixteen years ago)

deeznuts, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:59 (sixteen years ago)

Will it happen right away or will it take a while?

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:59 (sixteen years ago)

the one in the bottom left corner looks like it's screaming

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 22:01 (sixteen years ago)

John Justen, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 22:02 (sixteen years ago)

i bet that's the closest he ever got to real vag!

the poop request is 100% legit though, from what I can tell

John Justen, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

I guess while we're sending our fallen comrade poop, I should remind people that i'd love buckets full of centipedes that I can dump down my pants.

John Justen, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

John, your dedication to equity is truly admirable.

Also, I'm going to go wash my brain out with bleach now.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

ITS LIKE THE TWILIGHT ZONE IN HYAR

John Justen, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

HI DERE, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 23:34 (sixteen years ago)

Abbott, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 23:37 (sixteen years ago)

Turn back clock on computer to 2001 and all will be well.

libcrypt, Thursday, 5 June 2008 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 June 2008 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

Nice try Dan. All trying to seduce ILX and stuff.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 5 June 2008 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

Wow, I think they really have the wrong idea about ILX

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 17:35 (sixteen years ago)

really what website can resist the lure of wallogina

LOL my phone now recognizes "wallogina" as a word

HI DERE, Thursday, 5 June 2008 17:37 (sixteen years ago)

Pronounced like "Wachovia"

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 June 2008 20:30 (sixteen years ago)

Btw can someone post "ilm started sucking in 2002 when the board decided en masse that showing off your writing skills was more important than knowing anything about music, plus all of the funny people went to ile" for me? Bonus points if you add "plus encouraging people who are adamantly opposed to knowing anything about music to pursue careers in music crit is just stupid and guaranteed to ensure the perez hiltons of the world control of our media"

HI DERE, Thursday, 5 June 2008 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

where should this be posted

omar little, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

i was thinking the same thing.

maybe
ILM is kinda sucking these days (boring and meta ignore not safe for work)

carne asada, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:36 (sixteen years ago)

lol, apparently my job doesn't know about FIREFOX

HI DERE, Monday, 9 June 2008 18:46 (sixteen years ago)

Modern technology ftw!

Sara R-C, Monday, 9 June 2008 18:55 (sixteen years ago)

You know, I bet they also don't know about Camino then. (I think that's a Firefox product or something, but every person I've mentioned that web browser to looks at me like I'm making it up entirely.)

Sara R-C, Monday, 9 June 2008 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

my boss quit and was escorted out of the building

apparently the rumor on my floor is that he recommended that I get his job

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

HI DERE, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:40 (sixteen years ago)

escorted out of the building? did he quit with drama?

El Tomboto, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:42 (sixteen years ago)

Surmounter, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:43 (sixteen years ago)

Just got offed, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:43 (sixteen years ago)

tehresa, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

i would like my job to go to hi dere

gtfo

no

ok we force you to gtfo

deeznuts, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:46 (sixteen years ago)

Dan's place of employment sounds so drama-filled and interesting.

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:53 (sixteen years ago)

thinking about firing myself for a few hours later today

John Justen, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:59 (sixteen years ago)

He had no drama at all! In fact, he volunteered to spend the next two weeks doing a massive brain-dump on the missing requirements that would take us to the next level. Instead, he was told he had access to too much sensitive info given that he was going to a competitor, so he was asked to leave immediately.

If they give me his job I am going to shit (in a bad way).

HI DERE, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:01 (sixteen years ago)

Unless they double my salary, in which case it will still suck but at least I'll be able to afford a new house.

HI DERE, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

There's a bright side to every dark side. Or at least there should be. (You could decline the offer, though, right?)

xpost John, you just know you'll end up taking yourself back in the end.

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

i'm fixing to escort myself out of the building, because my brain is too sensitive to stay here for another minute.

lxy, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:12 (sixteen years ago)

ugh ppl keep coming into my office and saying "congrats on the promotion!" and then pointing and laughing

HI DERE, Friday, 13 June 2008 20:07 (sixteen years ago)

lol congratulations dan

El Tomboto, Friday, 13 June 2008 20:09 (sixteen years ago)

Look on the bright side: maybe Obama will draft you as his vice-presidential pick and you will have the last laugh.

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 20:24 (sixteen years ago)

"Congratulations! It's a ship of shit, but it's yours! hahahahahahahah"

fuck you

HI DERE, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

So did you get the job then or not? ENQUIRING MINDS, ETC. ETC.

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

not officially; however, the boss of my old boss called me to "chat about the prevailing attitude of the office". There's a follow-up chat on Monday.

argh

HI DERE, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

Hmmmm, so, you could be, like, elected against your will be the "prevailing attitude of the office?" That is just bizarre.

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

if I understand what you were trying to say, yes that is very bizarre

no, I have no idea which direction you were going there, sorry ;_;

HI DERE, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:39 (sixteen years ago)

Just trying to figure out if you have no choice in taking the job (assuming that they want you to take it)? Because it kind of sounds like people in your office are all, "yeah, make DAN do it, he'll be good at it... and then WE don't have to!"

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ Actually, now I'm thinking of that commercial about Life cereal. "Make Mikey Dan try it; he hates everything will be good at this job that none of us want!"

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

Damn, that should be Mikey

Defeated by BBcode again. ;_;

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

I like that, though.

Mikey Dan, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:50 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm not sure it's an improvement on "deX," but I'm willing to use it if only to confuse and baffle your wife.

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:51 (sixteen years ago)

I will have to practice ways to get "Mikey" to sound italicized, but I feel sure I can work something out.

Sara R-C, Friday, 13 June 2008 23:52 (sixteen years ago)

Basically my boss said I was the man to contact as he was escorted out the door and everyone else my department is taking one giant step backwards.

ugh fuck

worst part is likely there will be no pay raise

HI DERE, Saturday, 14 June 2008 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

Well, that's flattering, except that the bottom like is that is sucks.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 14 June 2008 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

oh man I hate it when it like ugh fuck
friday evening ugh fucks are the WORST

El Tomboto, Saturday, 14 June 2008 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

okay why am I still here

HI DERE, Saturday, 14 June 2008 02:39 (sixteen years ago)

See, that's why they want to make you the BIG BOSS!

Sara R-C, Saturday, 14 June 2008 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

More seriously, Dan and Tom - hang in there, cuz you are both awesome.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 14 June 2008 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

You guys did both get out of there I hope.

Dan, your fate troubles me. Escape.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 June 2008 06:26 (sixteen years ago)

HI DERE, Saturday, 14 June 2008 14:35 (sixteen years ago)

BLACK BEYONCE, Saturday, 14 June 2008 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

At least you have the option of going home and still retaining your job.

HI DERE, Saturday, 14 June 2008 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

John Justen, Saturday, 14 June 2008 14:59 (sixteen years ago)

BLACK BEYONCE, Saturday, 14 June 2008 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

^Many have.

suzy, Saturday, 14 June 2008 16:12 (sixteen years ago)

Brave souls, surely. I have always avoided entering those bathrooms out of PHEAR.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 14 June 2008 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

the idea of sleeping in a first avenue bathroom is making me want to bathe in lysol

white celine, Saturday, 14 June 2008 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

Dan, you're at work again today?! That sucks.

John, water, Advil, stay away from Dan because I'm afraid he'll punch you, etc. etc.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 14 June 2008 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

xp Exactly! When I was there in 2006, I didn't enter the bathroom, but I did think, "hmmmm, I wonder if they've cleaned this place since 1992..."

(still had fun, though)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 14 June 2008 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

gahhhhhhhhhh

John Justen, Saturday, 14 June 2008 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, well, that's what you get for not taking the Advil.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 14 June 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

the main architect announced he was resigning today, grrrr

HI DERE, Monday, 16 June 2008 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

Sara R-C, Monday, 16 June 2008 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

Upside: thing of the POWER you will have!!!!

Sara R-C, Monday, 16 June 2008 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, I do know this.

HI DERE, Monday, 16 June 2008 16:53 (sixteen years ago)

I am thinking of asking for an hour or two of lateness
I'm not quite yet in any condition to be employed gainfully

El Tomboto, Monday, 16 June 2008 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

hahahaha um they formally asked me to be TECHNICAL DIRECTOR (ie in charge)

I am totes saying yes btw

HI DERE, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:41 (sixteen years ago)

why because it look $$$$$$$$$$$

HI DERE, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

so you will be hiring? pls to give me one job? lol i a not techy at all!!!

tehresa, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

Well, congratulations! I think.

Also, could I come be your secretary or something? Also not techy, but kind of short of money due to taking out loans and more loans. I suppose the commute to Boston is prohibitive. ;_;

Sara R-C, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:46 (sixteen years ago)

^^^this

also loans. ugh. so ugh. as;lkgdj.

tehresa, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

lol hiring

Basically, not unless we pull of some miracle. Which we might; who knows?

HI DERE, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:48 (sixteen years ago)

lol hiring is not that fun. A. was reading through resumes last night and he was commenting on how desperate people seemed (since not one of the 17 applicants had relevant experience... but some had fantastic other experience - I mean, I think it's a one year internship they are offering.)

Basically, looking for a job is depressing right now. (SHOCKING REVELATION THERE, I KNOW)

Sara R-C, Monday, 16 June 2008 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

GO DANG
GO DANG
I SAID GO DANG
I SAID GO

...dang
.. perry ladies and gentlemen

El Tomboto, Monday, 16 June 2008 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

yeah my dad has been trying to hire someone for at least a year, but his co. is not willing to pay the salary for the level of person they need... someone working in a firm rather than as in-house counsel could make way more $$$. every time he thinks they may have found a good candidate, they turn the job down because $wang.

tehresa, Monday, 16 June 2008 22:22 (sixteen years ago)

damn it. because of the

tehresa, Monday, 16 June 2008 22:24 (sixteen years ago)

Because of the Dan.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 June 2008 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

I'm supposed to be headed to the airport now.

Instead I am cancelling a hotel reservation, pushing back my flight, and preparing to stay up all night to respond to a potential client issue in the UK.

srsly fuck this

HI DERE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:46 (sixteen years ago)

Well THAT SUCKS

(worst understatement ever?)

Is this your VEGAS VEGAS VEGAS trip that is being delayed?

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:50 (sixteen years ago)

Of course it is.

HI DERE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

EVIL EVIL EVIL EVIL EVIL!!!!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

(not the trip; the situation)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

yes job, you will be paying the $700 involved in paying for the hotel room I can't cancel, the change fee for the flights and the difference in airfare

you fucking fucks

HI DERE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:55 (sixteen years ago)

Well I should hope so! Jeez.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

why was I given 6 hours of work to do before tomorrow just now

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 23:53 (sixteen years ago)

Face it: your job hates you.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 00:17 (sixteen years ago)

Oh come on it's not like you were doing anything productive for those 6 hours anyways.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 01:54 (sixteen years ago)

what, like going home?

HI DERE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 01:54 (sixteen years ago)

Sleeping, whatevs. It's not like you are doing anything but dreaming during those 8 hours.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 01:56 (sixteen years ago)

You can sleep when you're dead.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 02:49 (sixteen years ago)

so fucking tired

I've been here for... 16.5 hours now.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 04:28 (sixteen years ago)

Dude, go home and get some sleep.

Or sleep under your desk.

What can they do to you? Make you work more?!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 04:32 (sixteen years ago)

I mean seriously, you do need sleep. No one really believes that "Dan is secretly a robot" business.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 04:35 (sixteen years ago)

I'm starting to believe I am secretly a big fucking chump.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 04:56 (sixteen years ago)

HI DERE, obviously you know what you are doing, but have you considered getting a new job? I know, $$$, but it sounds like it sucks stinky balls.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe he'll quit when they bring out the cattle prod.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

We can but hope.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

resume: updated
just need to put it out there

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 July 2008 02:32 (sixteen years ago)

DO IT BEFORE THE CATTLE PROD COMES OUT I BEG YOU

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

That is so fucked up Dan.

I told my boss i'll be leaving and he just gave me a sweet reference ^_^

I will be quitting v soon ^_^

wilter, Thursday, 3 July 2008 02:53 (sixteen years ago)

Actually the only people I know who work crazy shit hours like that are people who work for the big management consulting companies (accenture etc)

wilter, Thursday, 3 July 2008 02:58 (sixteen years ago)

(um since when is it fucked up that people who earn $$$ are expected to work long hours?)

Mark C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 10:11 (sixteen years ago)

HI DERE, obviously you know what you are doing, but have you considered getting a new job? I know, $$$, but it sounds like it sucks stinky balls.

Re: Disciplinary Hearing

Dear Nick
As promised we would like to arrange a follow up meeting later today.

You are entitled, if you wish, to be accompanied by another work colleague.

Regards
A******

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 3 July 2008 10:24 (sixteen years ago)

I should contexualise - I didn't show up to work on Monday due to my lift back from Glastonbury on Sunday falling through. I had enough phone charge to send a text and that was it, so I did, informing them that I would not likely be able to make it in. Not good enough apparently.

Arrived on Tuedsay to an email summoning me to attend a disciplinary meeting. They were pissed that I didn't call or make an effort to come in. WHich is fair and I expressed regret and apologies rah rah rah.

So who knows what's gonna happen this afternoon. I'm hoping it's just a warning so I have the opportunity to jump before I'm pushed but who the fuck knows?

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 3 July 2008 10:35 (sixteen years ago)

x-post so sad, i think you'll be OK HI DERE!! Hang in there friend!!1 cross your fingers, i am!

strgn, Thursday, 3 July 2008 10:37 (sixteen years ago)

(um since when is it fucked up that people who earn $$$ are expected to work long hours?)

It's fucked up when they bait-and-switch you on the job title and the $$$ but still triple the amount of work you have to do.

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 July 2008 11:33 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, that sounds fucked up.

Mark C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 11:38 (sixteen years ago)

Nick - good luck! That sucks.

Dan... good grief. (And here is where I would make my usual pathetic "please come home, we miss you, and bring that awesome wife of yours, too" bid.)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 13:09 (sixteen years ago)

Sacked. Sucks.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 3 July 2008 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

yeesh, sorry to hear that

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 July 2008 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

it's my own fault. i wasn't expecting it but i wasn't not expecting it either. gross misconduct apparently so no notice given but they are going to give me two weeks pay and references.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 3 July 2008 16:05 (sixteen years ago)

Holy crap. Sorry man.

hyggeligt, Thursday, 3 July 2008 16:19 (sixteen years ago)

no warning?? wtf

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 July 2008 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

i think as i see things (as described above) a warning would have been fair. i always thought there was a fairly strict process to these things - formal verbal warning --> formal written warning --> fired - but i guess they chose to skip those steps. I could appeal it or go to the CAb or something but I don't think that would help me get another job.

to tell you the truth, I've been moaning and moaning for what seems like eons about wanting to move on. having one was always what prevented me from actively going out and applying for things. i no longer have the comfort of a paycheque so I'd really better get off my arse.

tomorrow though. tonight I will drink.

my heart wasn't in it (understatement of the day) and although I worked hard(ish) and was good at it I'm pretty sure it

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 3 July 2008 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

Get that resume out there, Dan.

Then I will follow my own advice.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Thursday, 3 July 2008 18:41 (sixteen years ago)

I'm supposed to see if there's anything at G3n3r4l M1lls, actually; my sis-in-law is working for them (not in MN tho).

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 July 2008 18:57 (sixteen years ago)

D3an's wife works a G3n3r4l M1lls - in Minnesota and everything. She's a food scientist of some sort. She must like it okay since she worked there for years, left... and then they lured her back to it. She travels quite a bit for whatever it is that she does. (something like "figures out how to make giant batches of processed foods...")

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

Nick, sorry about the sacking. Hopefully you will find something better post-haste!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 20:29 (sixteen years ago)

(um since when is it fucked up that people who earn $$$ are expected to work long hours?)

(u don't think 16 hour days is fucked up?)

wilter, Thursday, 3 July 2008 23:32 (sixteen years ago)

Or even 17.5 hour days!

HI DERE, Friday, 4 July 2008 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

fuck you jizzmob

jergïns, Sunday, 6 July 2008 03:50 (sixteen years ago)

one of the managers just came in and took up like 30 minutes trying to convince everyone that all the bullshit lately is actually a good thing and that it's all going to be cool as long as we don't mind that we're being forced to move to a shittier, less convenient facility, complete more nonsensical short-turnaround RFIs, piss off our partners in the community and generally work harder not smarter for the foreseeable future.

At one point he actually said to everyone "I've drunk the kool-aid, okay?"

The more I think about it the more I think I should run, not walk, away from this place, even though I've basically enjoyed working here over the past year way more than any other employment I've ever had.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 00:00 (sixteen years ago)

One guy who left my company 4 weeks ago just came back because the place he went to was way way way way way worse.

I find this TERRIFYING.

HI DERE, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

jizzmob

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

One guy who left my company 4 weeks ago just came back because the place he went to was way way way way way worse.

haha yes that is the problem with possibly leaving here. I really don't have any coworkers right now that I completely can't stand, making this some kind of bubble of unreality that I fear to pop.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:14 (sixteen years ago)

FEAR IS THE MIND KILLER

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:14 (sixteen years ago)

On the other hand, I was thinking back today to some of my horrible retail jobs and it pretty much boiled down to - 1. incompetent/crazy manager that finally left the bookstore and then selling books was A+ fun and 2. unbelievably bad system of management (no shock that Casual Corner finally went out of business).

I kind of miss my job at St. Olaf. It was easy and fun and paid decently.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:16 (sixteen years ago)

I am content to be hunkered down in the job I am in. It weathers storms rather nicely.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:52 (sixteen years ago)

The payment schedule for both "student nurse" and "mother" really suck. There does seem to be no employment shortage in these areas, however.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:58 (sixteen years ago)

Also... mmmmmmm library job. It is kind of too bad that I found library school so boring... and expensive.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:58 (sixteen years ago)

oh man i am getting super nervous about job hunting in the US. not really sure how i'll go about. and as much as i love being on holiday, being unemployed really scared the shit out of me - i haven't been without a job for more than a week in 8 years.

and i'm utterly terrified of getting stuck in hospo work again - but i don't have the self-confidence to walk into a print shop and say 'hey you should hire me even though i have next to no experience and there are hardly any women in this field because lifting those goddamn typecases is such fucking hardwork'.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:04 (sixteen years ago)

also: your minimum wage is scary. here in nz the minimum is something like $11.50 before tax for an adult.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:04 (sixteen years ago)

female bartenders and waitresses with accents get like 3x the tips though

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:09 (sixteen years ago)

yeah but it is super shitty work and i'm not moving half way round the world just so i can keep working nights and weekends and never see my boyfriend. that would be pretty self-defeating.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:11 (sixteen years ago)

and apparently oakland is not all that good for tips, even for new zealish people with charming smiles and flirtatious personalities like mine.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:11 (sixteen years ago)

lol, oakland.
agreed that the work sucks.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:14 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't waitressed for years, but yeah, it does suck. I was half tempted to apply to work at a local coffee shop a few weeks ago - not for the money, but for the social interaction. I suppose coffee shops don't pay much, but the hours might be better than bartending or waiting tables.

I don't think it can hurt, though, to pursue the printing thing. The worst thing they can say to you is "no," right?

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

"The worst thing they can say to you is "no," right?"
otm. go for it.

Lingbert, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:40 (sixteen years ago)

everybody needs an intern

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:41 (sixteen years ago)

I allegedly find out on Friday if i get this job u_u

wilter, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 07:46 (sixteen years ago)

I've also got an interview next week for a better paying job that interests me less

wilter, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 07:51 (sixteen years ago)

I can't wait to flip this job off and ride into the sunset. I have my resignation letter penned in my head. I feel like I am being paid a stupid amount of money by a clueless company to install windows on dell PCs. It has a shit product developer with knowledge silos so they can't be fired for their shit work, a management team with no grip on the technology or the industry and I have over an hours commute each way to get here.

If I get into grad school I resign in november, if I don't I resign on the day I get the resignation letter and contract until I do get into grad school.

Tom, let us found a company that can somehow turn idiocy into platinum, we'll be billionaires overnight. (I know facebook has already been founded but there must be another pyramid scheme we can start)

Ed, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

facebook not actually worth anything except as an evetual telemarketing list

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 12:16 (sixteen years ago)

Mark Zuckerberg can laugh about it's demise from the window of his gold plated rocket car.

Ed, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 12:58 (sixteen years ago)

taking in $150m in revenues? maybe not worth what microsoft thinks it is but i wouldn't be scoffing at dem apples.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 13:17 (sixteen years ago)

okay I almost murdered Windows XP

fuck you, automatic updates, for giving me a heart attack

thank you, VMWare, for saving my work even when the host OS closes you

HI DERE, Thursday, 10 July 2008 13:03 (sixteen years ago)

ARGHGHGHGHGHGHGHHG, why is at least half my job giving click by click instructions on how to do basic windows XP stuff like doing multiple selections or installing drivers in windows XP. I mean fuck it fuck it fuck it, my resignation letter grows longer every day.

Ed, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 09:10 (sixteen years ago)

UGGH still haven't heard back about job. Apparently they're 'too bust with end of year stuff' = code for fail.

wilter, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 23:38 (sixteen years ago)

lol bust

wilter, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 23:38 (sixteen years ago)

motherfuckers

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't even been here the full eight hours and I feel I just pulled a twelve

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

I just had to deal with the same danish moron today and he has promised to call me again tomorrow because he won't have remembered or written down the same basic procedure we have gone through twice.

Ed, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 09:42 (sixteen years ago)

Third day with the danish moron and today we have the radio on in the office. I now know that Mark Knopfler has covered 'Walking in Memphis' a fact of which I was previously blissfully unaware.

Ed, Friday, 18 July 2008 12:42 (sixteen years ago)

Can't find any indication anywhere that Knopfler's done "Walking in Memphis", I'm guessing you just heard the original by Mark Cohn.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 18 July 2008 12:46 (sixteen years ago)

Count yourself lucky that it wasn't the glowsticks-in-the-air remix of the Cher version...

snoball, Friday, 18 July 2008 12:53 (sixteen years ago)

possibly, now we have, for the second time to day, some terrible mish mash/cover of Sweet Home alabama.

Ed, Friday, 18 July 2008 13:17 (sixteen years ago)

supporting the UK over the weekend, yay

HI DERE, Saturday, 19 July 2008 09:12 (sixteen years ago)

oops I mean ugh

HI DERE, Saturday, 19 July 2008 09:31 (sixteen years ago)

talking of support, I was woken up this morning by a support call from my favourite Danish Imbecile

Ed, Saturday, 19 July 2008 10:13 (sixteen years ago)

FUCK YOU, WINDOWS 2003

also I almost got sent to London as a sacrificial lamb but BULLET DODGED HOORAY

HI DERE, Friday, 25 July 2008 20:02 (sixteen years ago)

But but Dan, Cockfosters

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 July 2008 20:06 (sixteen years ago)

Ned, what part of "sacrificial lamb" don't you understand?

Sara R-C, Friday, 25 July 2008 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

ALLOW ME MY VISION.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 July 2008 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

Dude, you can have your vision, but I'm obligated to protect Dan from being made into "lamb" stew.

Sara R-C, Friday, 25 July 2008 20:35 (sixteen years ago)

FUCK YOU STUPID BOSS

tehresa, Friday, 25 July 2008 20:38 (sixteen years ago)

fuck you 6am support call

Ed, Saturday, 26 July 2008 08:10 (sixteen years ago)

fuck you, mscoree.dll, for magically unregistering and causing my entire team to lose a day of productivity

HI DERE, Monday, 28 July 2008 19:08 (sixteen years ago)

FUCK YOU, JOB, FOR FORCING ME TO TAKE TRIPS I DON'T WANT TO TAKE AT ALL

HI DERE, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:08 (sixteen years ago)

fuck you boss for being completely technologically illiterate and having a hissy fit every time you don't understand how the internet works (hint: stop using AOL)

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:18 (sixteen years ago)

Uh-oh, where are they making you go now? xp

tehresa - aaaaargh, are you secretly working for my parents?!

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:18 (sixteen years ago)

back to LONDON to get YELLED AT

HI DERE, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

Ugh. That sucks.

Especially when you can get yelled at just as easily here.

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

Remind me when you're quitting that job again?

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

As soon as I can actually go on some interviews...?

HI DERE, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:43 (sixteen years ago)

I love how Dan snuck that wallogina in after exactly 50 posts, just before it'd be swallowed up into "not loading all that" oblivion...

Also, plz come for drinks when in London, or something.

Just got offed, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

dan i'll trade with you. maybe.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 03:47 (sixteen years ago)

I'm going to make some face time with my deputy director tomorrow to talk about becoming an honest to god civil servant. Am I completely out of my fucking mind?

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 03:54 (sixteen years ago)

To answer this question, we're going to bum rush the fridge and order a bad pizza

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 03:59 (sixteen years ago)

then obviously you have your wits about you and i trust your decision making

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 03:59 (sixteen years ago)

THOSE ARE THE ACTIONS OF A SANE MAN IS WHAT I AM SAYING unless you are out of beer in which case i worry and fret

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:00 (sixteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

fuck you, job

Keep thinking that this is the voice of OT god when I read the title.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:17 (sixteen years ago)

I'm really rather relaxed with my job at present -- but freelancing, that's another story.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:30 (sixteen years ago)

Gah, now I want a pizza.

Are you out of your mind, Tom? Only you know the answer to that question.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:33 (sixteen years ago)

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 05:08 (sixteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 05:20 (sixteen years ago)

this morning: boss mysteriously absent from office. no idea where he is.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 14:30 (sixteen years ago)

Are you sure your boss hasn't actually quit before you had a chance to?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:24 (sixteen years ago)

oh he's back now... on the phone... in the other room... being a chatty cathy... not giving me opportunity to quit... i think i'm writing a note tonight (For real this time!)

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:31 (sixteen years ago)

i have headache.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:35 (sixteen years ago)

what in the world is so hard about quitting a job or asking for more money?

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

I have 100% of the time never ever had a problem with either of these things from my earliest ventures into the working world

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

of course I am terrible at about 89% of everything else in life that requires a modicum of simple good manners so maybe there you have it

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:41 (sixteen years ago)

i have always been really bad at quitting jobs. this is a spectacular failure, though.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:51 (sixteen years ago)

i have always been very good at leaving jobs involuntarily.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

i have never been fired.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

I used to quit my job at my Dad's restaurant every day. I think that was a dysfunctional/venting family thing, though.

I did quit a horrible retail job I had at Casual Corner once after they made me incredibly, incredibly angry.

Otherwise I think I'm in the same boat with tehresa.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

i was once fired from the same place twice. this does not reflect well on me, obv.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 17:02 (sixteen years ago)

Hey, anyone in London who likes to drink should check in w/ the ILE thread I revived

HI DERE, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 21:40 (sixteen years ago)

ok srsly FUCK YOU JOB

I just got off a fucking plane and I'm supposed to go on fucking vacation and you're sending me back to fucking London. Fuck you.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

Dan, is your job actually an experiment to see how much it will take to make you go postal?

I'm just asking.

Why do they want you to go back to London? You were JUST THERE

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:03 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't seen Dan explosively angry since middle school. These people do not want to do these things.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:03 (sixteen years ago)

I have never seen this! (but really, I'm okay with that)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:12 (sixteen years ago)

srsly fuck them with knives

HI DERE, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

HI DERE, Thursday, 7 August 2008 14:23 (sixteen years ago)

Have you considered covering them in shellac and selling them off as an art exhibit?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 7 August 2008 14:42 (sixteen years ago)

Fucking hell, dan, that sucks.

Ed, Thursday, 7 August 2008 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

So, while issues still need to be fixed, things have actually dialed down somewhat in that the boss of the customer contacts who were making our lives hell just came down on them and said "wtf, we were told that this application wouldn't do what you're trying to make it do, stop being dicks".

So basically had one of our executives talked to their executives sooner, I would be in OH right now.

HI DERE, Thursday, 7 August 2008 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

executive BLOWJOB, ceo of ASSHATTERY

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Thursday, 7 August 2008 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

Hmm. Did these customer contacts evince any shame or regret at all?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 7 August 2008 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

They should be forced to pay to get you to Ohio, plus give you the rest of August off.

Also, they should grovel.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 7 August 2008 17:53 (sixteen years ago)

so now we have moved on from "fuck you, job" to "fuck you, airline"

I should be landing in Cincy now. Instead, I am stuck in Newark until 8:05, at which point I get on a plane that departs for DAYTON. All of the Cincinnati flights were canceled because Newark had rain showers. This is, on balance, a good thing, because my flight was an hour late and I was going to miss my connection anyway because it was on the other side of the airport and only accessible by monorail.

AUGUST: a banner month for me so far

HI DERE, Friday, 8 August 2008 21:58 (sixteen years ago)

Argh, this all sucks. Will you get to Cincinnati by tomorrow I hope?

Sara R-C, Friday, 8 August 2008 22:11 (sixteen years ago)

Should be there around midnight, so yes. I am really, really, REALLY pissed that J031 has to leave the party her parents' neighbors are having for her dad to come pick me up.

HI DERE, Friday, 8 August 2008 22:24 (sixteen years ago)

I never want to get on an airplane again now. Ugh.

El Tomboto, Friday, 8 August 2008 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

(xp) Just don't fly through Newark. Ever.

HI DERE, Friday, 8 August 2008 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

Your advice is duly noted, sir.

Sara R-C, Friday, 8 August 2008 22:53 (sixteen years ago)

also to top it all the rain lasted like 20 min.

tehresa, Friday, 8 August 2008 23:30 (sixteen years ago)

argh

why oh why oh why did my coworker do a full build of all of the components on the system, even though it's been widely known that doing so is BAD NEWS for months

now I have to not only rebuild components, but also recreate changes to the INSTALLERS going back to January

ARGH

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:50 (sixteen years ago)

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:54 (sixteen years ago)
