EUROPEAN DANCE MUSIC IN AMERICA: A TREATISE BY SIMON REYNOLDS

I'm some British dolt who actually thought for a second that Americans might care about absolute GARBAGE music like the frickin' Chemical Brothers or frickin' PRODIGY.

What a goddamn fucking joke.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

we like rednex "cotton eyed joe!"

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

It's funny, but it's not me. I am very short and while not exactly skinny, not especially large, no.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

i always imagined that you would be skinny.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

i went for a drink with simon and geeta last month. paul kennedy was djing, and played the house crew and manix for me. it was good

charltonlido (gareth), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I am.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

i mean, the only fat people in europe are american tourists.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Everytime I talk to Simon we talk about the shirt I am wearing.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

no, actually, thats not really the case. i know this fat guy. okay, i dont know him that well, and i guess hes not that fat, but hes definitely some way heavier than me

DRAGOSTEA DIN TEI

by Haiducii [OZone]

(Love from the linden trees by The Outlaws)

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haha

Alo, Salut, sunt eu, un haiduc,
Si te rog, iubirea mea, primeste fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt eu Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

Vrei sa pleci dar nu ma, nu ma iei,
Nu ma, nu ma iei, nu ma, nu ma, nu ma iei.
Chipul tau si dragostea din tei,
Mi-amintesc de ochii tai.

Te sun, sa-ti spun, ce simt acum,
Alo, iubirea mea, sunt eu, fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt iarasi eu, Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

Translation from Romanian into English

Hello [on a cellphone], greetings, it's me, an outlaw,
I ask you, my love, to accept happiness.
Hello, hello, it's me, Picasso,
I sent you a beep [cellphone signal], and I'm brave [or strong],
But you should know that I'm not asking for anything from you.

You want to leave but you don't want don't want to take me, don't want don't want to take me, don't want don't want don't want to take me.
Your face and the love from the linden trees,
And I remember your eyes.

I call you [over the phone], to tell you what I feel right now,
Hello, my love, it's me, your happiness.
Hello, hello, it's me again, Picasso,
I sent you a beep [cellphone signal] and I'm brave [or strong],
But you should know that I'm not asking for anything from you.

what the fuck is a livejournal bear community? can we just set all livejournalers on fire or something? is this allowed yet by the us constitution? i'd support that.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

ally if you really can't imagine what a livejournal bear community might consist of, i want your brain.

I really enjoyed and learned from Generation Xtacy but Rip It Up bummed me out. Too much old-school rock crit! Half the book read like capsule reviews! And I think the publisher fukked him over -- no discography or PICTURES in a book abt postpunk = weird. Even though I've always been mixed on Scrtti Pllti, SR should've written an entire book about Green or focused on him and a few others.

the title alone indicated that Teh Sex Revolts wasn't my cuppa.

omg his blog actually has "simon reynolds' blog Blissblog" as the title now. way to bro.

Before the Klaxons, stepping in for the canceled and much-touted 120 Days, was a local band called Holy Hill (I think), two girls (one with a piercing shriek, the other a tough bassist/Gabi from Luscious Jackson lookalike) and two guys (Fred Schneider-type inaudible on keybs and vocals, pretty good discopunk drummer) and while savagely indebted to ESG, they had a certain something too.

how much, latebloomer? (latebloomer), Monday, 25 September 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

you got a certain something!

the UK ed had a few pix; the discography is on the website (oddly it's page proofs -- presumably it was gonna be in the book at some point).

FROM DISSENSUS
07-21-2005, 12:59 PM

I'm banning Marcello cos firstly because I was pretty sickened by the chest-thumping and general foul behaviour on the hip-hop thread. I fucking hated this and am guilty for just discovering the general unpleasantness therein (two people alerted me). Other people may have been stirring the shit and I'll be checking them out too.

Also, and just as importantly, I'm sick of him nitpicking blissblogger. What the fuck is your problem with Simon, Marcello? Grow up. What it boils down to is this. If I'm going to have a forum in which either Reynolds or Carlin are going to feel comfortable, then it's a fucking no-brainer.
