No Gareth, No Bummed, BUT I do have the new Kasabian which I am reviewing. Here is what the NME has to say about Kasabian: "From Badge wearing indie-snobs to Ben Sherman-clad townies out for their biannual night of culture, EVERYONE likes Kasabian."

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 7 February 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

"The last time people made tunes like this, The Stone Roses were refusing to go on Wogan, and Shaun Ryder's face didn't look like it was moulded out of wet lard" sez Mixmag!

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 7 February 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

i once worked in a used book store and when someone wanted to send a book to a friend or relative in prison, they had to have the store send it. so, once someone had come in and wanted us to send some sci-fi paperback to someone in prison. someone else from the store packed it up and i had to take it to the post office. i'm walking down the street and i look at the name on it and OMG it was one of the manson girls! i can't remember which one now.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

i been listening to lotsa rekkerds: An Oval record i never play (Now i remember why too cuz i can't take that skipping cd sound for longer than a song or 2. what kinda drugs do yoo have to be on to dig the skipping cd sound?) A Little Feat record. I took that off too. I wasn't in the mood. Sleepy Hollow by the Siegal-Schwall Band. I took that off too. It's not my bag. Too corny for me. A Stone The Crows album. Which is pretty horrible and they have 2 singers who can't sing which doesn't help matters. Fuckin' hippies. A Humble Pie record. That one made me groan too. I dunno, it's not what I need in my life. An album by Stu Martin & John Surman (??) called LIve At Woodstock Town Hall which is freejazzhorns&drums&electronics and it is noisy, but also kinda, i dunno, not great. The first track has a nice electro-drone underneath those doodz freakin' on their horns and drums though. A White Witch album on Capricorn. 70's Xian hardrockers and they are pretty funny. lotsa falsetto and nonsense lyrics and big dumb guitars. Fave lyrics from the song "Class Of 2000": "Class of 2000, we were wearing silver suits that year. Mum's hair was slick, she looked like a rooster. Dad's was way past his rear. Dad still hits the weed, but us kids, we don'tsmoke now to get high. We just turn on this machine, it sends out this frequency and it blows our minds." I listened to New Order singles too. They always sound rad. "Thieves Like Us" and "Blue Monday" and "Murder". And I listened to a Monotract album. That one woke me up. And Tim Hollier's Message To A Harlequin album. That one is pretty good dreamy space/psych/folk/pop. It's a decent record and you can buy it for, like, 2 bucks used. And I listened to The Hook's The Hook Will Grab You. That has nice fuzz all over it. I just put on some Sea and the Cake rekkerd, but it's coming off right now. I'm picky today.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

IS YOUR HOUSE MADE OF RECORDS?

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

those lyrics were badical

what kinda drugs do yoo have to be on to dig the skipping cd sound?

i absolutely love this sound. whenever i'm at a store and this starts happening, i'm the only one in the store who appreciates it. it usually sounds better than whatever crap they had on the speakers earlier anyways

today i listened to Cam'ron "Purple Haze", Gal Costa "S/T" & now Gene Clark "No Other"

Tito JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

"Scott, are White Witch the rad glam or do they sound like Grand Funk or what?"

i only have the one record. It's called *A Spiritual Greeting* and it has the cool embossed White Witch logo on the cover. It's a cheap record. I wouldn't pay more then 3 or 4 bucks for it. Not like Grand Funk. Yeah, kinda glammy. Really over the top. Lotsa falsetto (that Darkness doofus wishes!) Lotsa guitars. A little proggy, but they aren't all that great at it. Pretty entertaining. The last song is really good. Good riff.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 10 February 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

the lcd soundsystem 3xCD is probably one of the best packages i've picked up in a great while.

Lester Bangs on White Witch!:

"What do they sound like? Great! Grunge noise and mystikal studio abstractions, better than most of Black Oak's stuff, vocals and organs and other things quite Deep Purple, and if you've got any sense of humor or no standards at all you'll love 'em."

I like the cover of the first album a lot, with that picture of them with the makeup.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 10 February 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

And on the next page over in Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung, lyrics to Lester's song "Barracuda Anthem":

Hey motherfucker!
Hey motherfucker!
All you do is sit on your can
Get out in the streets and prove you're a man
We've been sittin' still too long
It's time to pull the lever
On the ones that stole the ground from unborn feet forever!

he is touring with high on fire, no? and, of course, he is on the new album.

right now i am listening to a moonspell album. before that an old relapse comp. before that an old Pit Magazine comp. before that a suburban voice zine hardcore comp from 2001. before that the death by blowjob singlesbox with bunnybrains/slugbait/voodoo muzak.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

JAH...he is touring and on the record...but sadly his presence isn't strong.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

he is also looking pretty "normal" now with short hair...last time I saw the thrones, he looked like scary mountain man living in spider hole.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

i've only seen him pre and post mountain man phases. in witchypoo he had shortish hair and same for the show last summer.

or was it the hat... ? i can't remember.

i got an album by Transistor Transistor in the mail today. I like it. Produced by one of the Converge doodz. Screamy, noisy, punkcore. lotsa cool riffs and stuff. i like the stuff i get from level plane and dim mak. i like the mix of punky punk and hardcore punk. and the distortion and the screaming, of course.
