As of one hour ago, I am official $100,000 in debt.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:19 (twenty years ago)

Anybody want to come to my house this weekend and get drunk on credit?

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:19 (twenty years ago)

official-ly.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:20 (twenty years ago)

Try owning property, dude.

Dan (Lightweight) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:22 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking of throwing a rent party, for realz.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:24 (twenty years ago)

same here, bro

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

how much money do you think you can turn over by turning cocaine into crack?

A BOLD QUAHOG (ex machina), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:26 (twenty years ago)

my tally is somewhere around $23,000

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:27 (twenty years ago)

which, to be fair, is only 575 pitchfork reviews

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:28 (twenty years ago)

They (we?) should bring back rent parties.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I found a nice couch and oak table on the sidewalk last week, brought them into my apartment and cleaned them up. They're both really nice, but were too big for the space I had. So I rearranged the apartment, and now have enough seats for a party. Catch is: bedroom = living room.

At any rate, my friends are so damn cheap that a rent party would probably be more like a cell-phone-bill party.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:49 (twenty years ago)

About seventeen grand. I'm on a plan that should have me covered in 19 months. Meet you back here then.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:54 (twenty years ago)

I have about 6,000 in debt but seeing as my surgery is coming up and I'm applying to schools, it will be something like this soon.

The funny thing is, I'm not really worried about any of it. I'm currently too busy pondering my own mortality.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:59 (twenty years ago)

its not so bad to be in debt, if its on the way to be pulling in the $?

i dunno, i dont have any debt, and i earn good money, but its...finite. it'll all change when i go back to school in september, and who knows what'll happen after that. hopefully i wont have to take out any loans, its afterwards that is the great unknown

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Where are you going to school?

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

i feel your debt pain. i'm in the 6 digits of debt realm too. although, i do have a house. near the end of this year, our car will be paid off... RULE! THAR BE LIGHT AT THEE ENDAR THEE TUNNEL SPONGEBOB!
m.

msp (mspa), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:09 (twenty years ago)

right now i have a couple of thou in credit card debt. i guess that's not too bad.

stockholm cindy (winter version) (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:11 (twenty years ago)

just do yourself a favor and never miss a payment. i let shit go 90 passed due once... holy uncool. i'm serious peeps. you don't want that kind of action. for seven years you get treated like trash. it's really fucking annoying sometimes. it's especially annoying when you get married and they have to live with your mistake from what seems like three lifetimes ago.

m.

msp (mspa), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:18 (twenty years ago)

i'm hovering around 20K, but literally just treading water. with the way my consolidation is set up, the balloon payment is more than i can afford to start paying down principle meaningfully...

blackmail (blackmail.is.my.life), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:19 (twenty years ago)

In a few years I'll probably be $150k in debt.

Thanks, medical school!

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:36 (twenty years ago)

tap into that hollywood money, remy dude. become some exec producer's manservant for cash.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:36 (twenty years ago)

what dan says. i'm probably in bigger debt than all of you combined

team jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:37 (twenty years ago)

yah, but you have something tangible to show for it... I have some Ikea, crap, a few thousand pages of unsold script, and a collection of parking tickets.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Jaxon, are you in SF? Because if you are, then yeah your debt pwns.

Dan (My Place Would Be 3x As Expensive) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:39 (twenty years ago)

for sure. decent houses here are dirt cheap compared.
m.

msp (mspa), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:46 (twenty years ago)

speaking of exec producers, who knows some? im going to LA to meet with some CAA dude about the film/tv rights to my book, but wouldn't mind talking to a producer directly. or if not for that, i also wouldn't mind being a poolboy

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:46 (twenty years ago)

what book did you write?

Is it a novelization of the chinese train guard story?

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:50 (twenty years ago)

My wife wrote a book.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:50 (twenty years ago)

funny you bring that up, i was just fantasizing about that day not too long ago. anyhow, no, its this book about living in that model dorm. s1mon & schust3r bought it last month, so now i gotta try to sell the film/tv rights.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:54 (twenty years ago)

dan, yeah, SF.

phil, email me? i might have a friend for you to talk to.

team jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:55 (twenty years ago)

Jaxon's loft has probably appreciated in value more than he and wifey are in debt, but he's bad at math so I forgive him.

Steve Shasta

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:55 (twenty years ago)

I still don't actually KNOW the chinese train guard story. What's a "model dorm"?

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Hey steven shasta

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:56 (twenty years ago)

shasta, appreciation only comes into play when and if you sell or refinance. neither of which i'm planning on doing any time soon. what happens if shit just sinks like a hard turd when i try to sell?

team jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:01 (twenty years ago)

also, hey steven shasta

team jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:02 (twenty years ago)

oh, basically, in a sentence, i was drunk and delirious on an 80 hour 4th class train ride in china, and i jerked off (and might accidentally let it slip into my mouth) some hot iranian guy - and then he unexpectedly jizzed on my face. thats about it.

the m0del d0rm, was this apt i lived in where there were these bunkbeds and all these visiting teenage models would come and stay while they were in new york. it was pretty funny. lots of sex drugs etc.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:03 (twenty years ago)

This was a guard you jerked off? I can see why you are a successful writer.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:04 (twenty years ago)

no, he wasnt a guard. he was from tehran and was taking a train to shanghai to buy lots of fake prada and fake tommy hilfger to bring back to iran to sell. he was really hot.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:09 (twenty years ago)

JD-

Have any similar units sold in your building recently?

Shasssta

PS: Phil, HOTTT story(-ies). Rock on bro.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:11 (twenty years ago)

I always stare at jaxon's building from my car. I never see him in there, though.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Not that that's creepy or anything.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Just a regular straight bro, staring into another bro's apartment building from a pasing motor vehicle.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:14 (twenty years ago)

"every time a noize dude roffles, an angel gets his zings."
m.

msp (mspa), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:15 (twenty years ago)

i stare at cutty's building everyday. i have never seen him inside. i do not even know which apartment is his. i probably also stare at ddb's building but do not know it.

it is creepy.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:21 (twenty years ago)

email me, phil re. EPs.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:22 (twenty years ago)

whats your email address? i think i lost that odd email you sent me a year or so ago.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:30 (twenty years ago)

jcoombs@gremovemail.com

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

(also it's terrifying to be reminded of the weird crap i've sent people in the past)

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:34 (twenty years ago)

coming from your mouth, i know that email must be weird

team jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:44 (twenty years ago)

don't say "coming from your mouth" after phil just told us that story

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:44 (twenty years ago)

it ended up on my face! not in my mouth, yuck.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:46 (twenty years ago)

and might accidentally let it slip into my mouth

oh, I hate when that happens

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Thursday, 26 January 2006 23:10 (twenty years ago)

tell us more

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 January 2006 23:10 (twenty years ago)

Is it all over Phil's face? You got me love dancing.

Confounded (Confounded), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:16 (twenty years ago)

17k in debt. I am frantically paying $1k a month to credit cards to get it down to something manageable before we have the baby, my wife quits work, and we lose $50k a year in income. See you all on the streets. Please be kind and spare your change.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Better learn to do some tricks or make things with your hands.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:30 (twenty years ago)

can I say how disappointed I am in the chinese train story? it doesn't measure up to the sick shit I had imagined (no team of chinese midgets, for one thing)

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:31 (twenty years ago)

...The Aristocrats!

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:32 (twenty years ago)

Dude is this officially the first time the Chinese train story has been extracted from phil on ILX? If so, like, red letter day!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:48 (twenty years ago)

So...is that illegal in China?

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:49 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe he told it.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:52 (twenty years ago)

What's the big deal?

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:54 (twenty years ago)

We've all been there.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:54 (twenty years ago)

Speak for yourself, hon.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:55 (twenty years ago)

stockholm cindy (winter version) (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:56 (twenty years ago)

can I say how disappointed I am in the chinese train story?

um hi, you try getting jizzed on while a bunch of chinese dudes are sitting around slurping instant noodles. it was a huuuuge thick creamy load too. very hard to get it all off.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 27 January 2006 01:58 (twenty years ago)

pah, i jerked off three dudes on the way home tonight.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 27 January 2006 03:17 (twenty years ago)

gbx (skowly), Friday, 27 January 2006 04:38 (twenty years ago)

i thought it was at night, phil.

it was! but chinese people dont sleep! well, some do.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 27 January 2006 06:12 (twenty years ago)

did you milk him like a yak?

brokeback titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Friday, 27 January 2006 12:02 (twenty years ago)

that's a lot of money

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 12:08 (twenty years ago)

it's true, the chinos never sleep! I find the 24hr noodle houses are packed at midnight with entire families w kids and mad students, not just the dealers. did you knwo that we actually only sleep every third day? the other two we build allllllllllllll the computer chips in the world

LeCoq (LeCoq), Friday, 27 January 2006 12:23 (twenty years ago)

i have € 0 debt, and i hope to keep it that way

Yawn (Wintermute), Friday, 27 January 2006 13:23 (twenty years ago)

are you a german trustafarian?

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

i think i am about 2k right now. i am annoyed, though, because i am going to end up moving home for a while to straighten things out. my parents gave my sister's boyfriend a 2k (or so) loan to move to dc, but all i've wanted to do for 2 years is move to nyc and they won't help me at all. granted he had a job with the nat'l symphony, but i am their daughter! i generally don't want their money but in this case, i do not want to live in rochester and do not want to live in sc. i am fucked either way.

tehresa (tehresa), Friday, 27 January 2006 17:06 (twenty years ago)

2k is nothing. come back with it's ten times that much.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:09 (twenty years ago)

but do come back.

Serge Protecteur (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:12 (twenty years ago)

i just found out the film school i want to go to this summer is 8.5k! for three months!

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:26 (twenty years ago)

how can i move into model dorm?

and yancey, you are invited to come over anytime, my name is on the buzzer.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:26 (twenty years ago)

what film school is that, Mark?

Serge Protecteur (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:27 (twenty years ago)

shamefully that blade runner joke is the first thing to lighten my mood all day

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:31 (twenty years ago)

what's for dinner?

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:35 (twenty years ago)

rice and beans? that would be nice.

Serge Protecteur (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:36 (twenty years ago)

i know 2k is not that bad in the grand scheme of things, but considering it's all stupid credit card crap (like, say, gas to drive from ny to sc and back), it makes me feel angry and pathetic. and i have nothing to show for any of it.

tehresa (tehresa), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:42 (twenty years ago)

what, like a B.A. in History? uggggh....

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:44 (twenty years ago)

but you are a famous author!

Serge Protecteur (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Serge Protecteur (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:46 (twenty years ago)

2k of debt sounds like a beautiful dream

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:47 (twenty years ago)

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:48 (twenty years ago)

ok, 2k of debt used to be like 10k... and i have a bachelor of MUSIC to show for it (trust me, it's much more worthless than a ba in hist!), which means i am not qualified for any job anywhere. it's awesome.

tehresa (tehresa), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:49 (twenty years ago)

my friend megan worked in publishing in NYC in the mid-90's. she spent all her time recovering from hangovers, emailing me, and drinking the bathroom.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:50 (twenty years ago)

Tell me about publishing in NYC (or Laura H can tell me) - we all know it's shitty but are there jobs?

well everyone i know who wants to work in publishing works in publishing, so i guess there are jobs. every editor ive ever met has been a perky blonde or a gay. maybe try getting in via a lit agency. my pal worked in the william morris mailroom for a few months, then took a job at ICM as assistant to one of the biggest lit agents in new york. now he's meeting tons of people, or whatever. and he's white and straight. like you!!

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

$35K in student loans, $1K in credit card, less than $1K in debt to pshrink/bank

I have two BS degrees in Engineering, yet am massively underemployed(despite interviewing right now). Currently making about 90-95% of my monthly bill amount, which is causing me to have occasional anxiety attacks/"episodes."

Life sucks, presently.

kingfish kuribo's shoe (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:57 (twenty years ago)

But thank you!

Also I'm Jewish, so I'm not like WHITE white.

Serge Protecteur (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:58 (twenty years ago)

Basically I'm just not-white enough to have my own funny dances and off-color phrases.

I'm just sayin' there are always Production openings. Although since the jobs involve a fair amount of specific knowledge about paper/printing/etc, it's probably harder to accidentally step in one, a la Phil's meteoric rise in publishing.
