This watercolour evokes imagery from the Book of Revelation, Chapters 4 and 5. St John witnesses the glorious vision God, surrounded by a rainbow. Around his throne are twenty-four elders dressed in white and 'four beasts full of eyes before and behind'. The deity holds 'a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals'.

Governor of Missouri declared a state of emergency due to all the freezing rain last weekend. A good amount of it has melted now. But we're supposed to get more precip this weekend.
There was a 2" sheet of ice over everything on Sunday morning. Sucked.

i just realized i was an idiot and put out my recycling friday night and they didn't pick it up and now it's buried under 2 ft of snow + plowed snow + soon to be another foot of snow = i am never getting it out
― harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:14 (sixteen years ago)
Welcome to ultimate snow season, we're getting another 5-8" here. I was going to wait to clean my driveway, but I could only get my car halfway up it. Then I ended up destroying one of the pins in my snowblower and had to replace it. Good times.
― mh, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:46 (sixteen years ago)
anyone ever mess around with any of those ergonomically-designed snow shovels with the curved handle (Fig. A), or the ones that rest on a huge wheel so it's like a big rolling scooping lever (Fig. B), or the plow-y ones with a bar on each side of the shovel so it looks like a lawnmower (Fig. C)? if i had a driveway or something i think i might wanna upgrade, but as it is i only have to shovel the sidewalk in front of my townhouse and a little path to the back gate. i pride myself on my quickness and i think a fancier shovel might just slow me down.

Fig. C why can't you be more like Figs. A and B
figure A are good but B and C i don't understand
― harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:52 (sixteen years ago)
seems like B would reduce strain to your back by giving you this portable fulcrum that you can just push down on to lift and then just swivel over to the side to dispense, whereas C appears to involves absolutely no back strain at all, but i'm not sure how you would clear the spade of its snowload.
this is what midwestern VFW hall patrons discuss once football season's over, isn't it
― iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:02 (sixteen years ago)
sometimes you need to throw snow further away so not being able to lift seems bad
― harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:17 (sixteen years ago)
you should get an A, iiiijjjj. B and C are for people who have a lot of newfangled gadgets

Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake has raised the city's Snow Emergency Plan to Phase Three, the highest level.
It means that all vehicles must be taken off the street, except for city authorized emergency vehicles, including police fire ambulance, snow plows and BGE emergency vehicles.
According to WBAL's Jayne Miller, the mayor has ordered snow plows to stand down because of very dangerous conditions.
Heavy snow and gusty winds have hit the city since 9 a.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for the Baltimore area. It remains in effect until 7 p.m.

First, the National Weather Service has upped its estimates of the total snow accumulations once this storm finally ends tonight. Instead of the 10 to 20 inches they've been warning about for two days, forecasters have just upped the ante to 20 to 30 inches for Baltimore and its suburbs.
want to go outside soon, it's stopped blowing as much snow--couldn't see a thing this morning

More than 12 inches fell at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn. The previous record for the day was less than a tenth of an inch, in 2000, the weather service said.
