Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy) is a forensic pathologist who lost her job with the Boston medical examiner's office because her passion for solving homicides frequently extended beyond the autopsy table. Years later, an old ally rescues Jordan from court-ordered anger management training in Los Angeles and rehires her to her former job in Boston. Jordan is still feisty and mercurial and a pain in the butt, but management tolerates her because she is good at her job. The driving force in Jordan's life and career is the crime she took the longest time to solve -- her mother's murder.

i don't know if this is "noise", but it was definitely a "moment":

last night i dreamt i was sitting at a picnic table with someone in a prison-cafeteria-type place. a song came on the radio and i shushed my eating partner and said "i love this song!" but i loved it because it was so cheesy, not because it was a great song, and i felt awkward like he thought i was really into the song. the chorus repeated the word "tomorrow" and it sounded just like that Bush song from 1996-ish called "Swallowed," but substituted the word "tomorrow" for "swallowed". so i was singing along and having a great time.

today (not dreaming) i decided to listen to some old tapes while i cleaned my room. the first one i popped in was a tape i made from this "modern rock" station (WDRE 103.9, long since defunct), and it was RIGHT at the part of the chorus for Swallowed by Bush. WHOAAAA

I don't know what happened to the noize dreams thread but i had one.

i went to an old man's house that was also a store and i bought some little things. then i realized that maybe he was the one who had the AMM DVD i was looking for (????). he wasn't, but he said "the one you need is my daughter" and he opened the door into this huge mansion with a lawn in the center of it. it was suddenly daytime! i waited on the white carpeted stairs with a doggie and a boy for the daughter to come out with the AMM DVD. her husband made a comment that the movie was really short and boring. she gave me the AMM DVD. it had a pink cover.

Every fucking second of Fishing with John. Example:
Fascinating, our world today. With technology, man now knows more about his fellow man and the world he lives in than ever before. Yet we still know very little. We know very little, for example, about the topic of today's program: the shark. The shark has lived in the same form for millions of years. The word "Shark" came from the German word "shirke," which means "villain." How deep is the ocean? Nobody really knows for sure. Today's program and fishing adventure should prove to be fun. But it could also prove to be very, very dangerous. The shark has made fatal attacks on humans in every ocean in the world. There are 27 man-eating species of sharks. When it comes to the shark, man is on his menu.

the Shea Stadium PA sometimes plays "Gone Daddy Gone" when a Met hits a home run, which is pretty noise for the major leagues.

last may wgn was using the reigning sound as it's fade in/out music between the innings sending most of the chicago garage idiots in a frenzy to find out who got a job with tribco.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

I think ESPN Sportscenter was using "Gone Daddy Gone" as transition music for a while.

Some soccer show in the UK used "Theme From Sparta F.C." for a while

I go into HMV and within 3 seconds, Mogwai's album 'Come On Die Young' starts on PA.

I go back to HMV about 45 minutes later, and we've reached 'Ex-Cowboy'. In a fucking HMV. After buying, I stay until the end of the song, grinning broadly.

Yeah, dude, I am TOTALLY going out next week to buy The Twang's new single, maybe The Fray's album, perhaps Mark Ronson's or The Kaiser Chiefs' as well...oh, and there's this new Scottish group called Mogwai, just released a short, snappy, commercial record full of indie hits and disco beats called 'Come On Die Young', I reckon they might be the big new sound! All the indie kids will be dancing their PANTS off to this shit. God, when Radio 1 get their hands on 'Ex-Cowboy' or 'Chocky', they'll be practically unavoidable!

Same lady today telling me about how she's seen Shonen Knife and The Cramps.

-- Hurting 2, Friday, March 30, 2007 5:17 AM (3 months ago)

Today this woman (Martha) was going on and on about how much she hates religious people, and then segued into a rant about the surgeon general and abstinence education. A black lady walks in to get a file, and she keeps ranting, and I'm getting a little embarassed because I have a feeling the lady is religious. Then Martha looks at the file and says to the woman "Look, this file has SIX SIX SIX IN IT!" And the lady says "Oh, I don't believe in that. I'm protected by the blood!" And then she starts singing it to herself, "Protected by the blood! Protected by the blood!"

I don't know if it was noise, but it was strange.

Here is another example to try the Nash Equilibrium approach on.

Two radio stations (WIRD and KOOL) have to choose formats for their broadcasts. There are three possible formats: Country-Western (CW), Industrial Music (IM) or all-news (AN). The audiences for the three formats are 50%, 30%, and 20%, respectively. If they choose the same formats they will split the audience for that format equally, while if they choose different formats, each will get the total audience for that format. Audience shares are proportionate to payoffs. The payoffs (audience shares) are in Table 6-1.
