Let’s Trim Our Hair in Accordance with the Socialist Lifestyle was a television program which was aired in North Korea, broadcast on state-run television in the capital of Pyongyang. The program was intended to educate the public on good and bad hairstyles. An initial five-part series in the show Common Sense featured officially endorsed haircut styles, while a later series went a step further by showing certain men as examples of how not to trim hair. The show claims that hair length can affect human intelligence in part because of the deprivation to the rest of the body of nutrients required for hair to grow.

i cant think of any modern hairstyles for women that dont involve bangs

except for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croydon_facelift but thats probably not socialist enough and also fugly

ferzaffe (flezaffe), Sunday, 9 July 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

caitlin, see if you can get a cut with either erin @ fusion (on park ave) or lisa @ regis salon (in marketplace mall... ugh, i know the mall, but she is really good). either of them will be able to talk to you and come up w/ awesome ideas and give you a really good look. i don't know if that erin girl is still at fusion, but they might be able to tell you where she is if she's not there (if she didn't move away.. she was engaged so it's possible).

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Sunday, 9 July 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

haha, croydon facelift. one time adam told me all about "chavs". oh, adam.

it's not that i can't have bangs at all but the sticking outness of my hairparts is not accomodating. if i get them they will make more maintenance! tehresa i always go to the world hair for $11 haircuts :( i have been to that place in the mall though, when i lived on campus. it was ok.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 9 July 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

yeah the girl at the place in the mall is a "master stylist" and is really good, but i probably wouldn't get my hair cut by anyone else in that salon.

i went to world hair once and they fucked me up and the girl was all bitchy like, 'do you want me to blow dry it?' and i was like 'please' and she was all annoyed and i was like 'lady, it's 20º outside and i have to walk home!!!' also my friend used to work there and ended up like, walking out midshift one day cause they were asses.

if you are afraid of sticking out, get some awesome product. also, your hair will learn if you train it (even though it's dead!)

sorry, but i don't have a picture of myself in underpants

Arial Pink (account), Monday, 10 July 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

couple things:

your hair if short will definitely look greasy and dirty if you wash it less than every day, but this could be a good thing.

the not chubby/short hair rule only works if you have fine hair. pixie hair is fine hair. I have thick hair and when I cut it short, I looked like a guy cause it's thick and I didn't have proper PRODUCT. get good product, or keep it greasy all time.

send me a picture tooo!!!!

don't cut it short

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 10 July 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

chopping all of my hair off after 5 years of wearing it mid-length or longer was the best decision that i've made all year (aside from moving back from london). go for it. if you're hair is really thick, the stylist can thin it out.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 10 July 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

gabbneb is a boring mom

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 10 July 2006 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

my hair is super thick but that don't stop me. get a good stylist. pay at least $45 and have them thin it out. bring lots of pics. just DO IT you will LOVE IT and if you DON'T then it will GROW BACK.

killy (baby lenin pin), Monday, 10 July 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

killy is right - spend the money for a really good haircut (both lisa or erin would not charge you $45, probably closer to $30), then you can go longer in between cuts, so it doesn't end up being that much more expensive.

tehresa, who will here remain anonymous (tehresa), Monday, 10 July 2006 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, when i first got my hair cut short i looked up the salon that was voted "Best of Austin 2003". it worked out well. do it.

I found out it is better to spend the $$ on a short haircut because otherwise it grows out badly and needs to be cut again v soon. mine is getting sort of unkempt though! I went to this french guy who works at a sort of expensive salon and said, whatever you think would work, I don't really know - because a certain haircut might seem ok in a photo but in reality wouldn't suit your type of hair or the shape of your face.

oh i wanted to add a serious message to caitlin, and that is: if you're going short, the golden rule that has worked for me is this: LONGER IN THE FRONT, SHORTER IN THE BACK. doesn't even have to be by much. also those side bangs that kind of angle down are good.

killy (baby lenin pin), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

killy (baby lenin pin), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

totally.

you want something that's going to frame your face well. in the back you can go as short as you want (for keeping cool) but the front is what's important.

Darling noisers,

Why does the skin at the top of my arms turn bumpy and scaly around the base of hair follicles if I don't shower at least twice a day? Am I going to calcify? Am I coral?

I read in a gf's Cosmo that this was common, but I don't remember what it was called. Plz help.

Easiest solution: that St Ives apricot scrub exfoliant stuff. Buy a whole tub of it and scrub arms every other day. Throw on some basic body lotion on problem areas after shower. Should be much improved within a couple of weeks.

Almost every girl I've dated gets one of these Legend of Zelda haircuts within a couple of months. It is still a MYSTERY!

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 14 July 2006 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

when growing hair to the elbows, how often should it be trimmed and how much?

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

never. i am an expert because my hair was always really really long as a kid. i wish i had a jpeg of my 7th grade class pic. i'm wearing a no fear tshirt and a no fear hat -- backwards -- with my bangs pulled through the opening of the hat where a ponytail would normally go. and hair down to my ass. and big glasses.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

you're going to get scraggy dull ends if you don't get semi-regular trims, though.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

I get it trimmed about once a year because when the ends go bad it makes the whole thing tangle-ier. But I don't blow-dry or wash it much, so it stays pretty healthy. Long hair can get really dried out on the ends, remember the bottom few inches is YEARS old and hair can't, er, regenerate or anything so go easy on harsh stuff.

(XP to Lauren)

I just checked, mine is still a couple of inches from elbows if I sit up really straight.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

There's a photo of lady pooperton somewhere with nearly that exact blue dress and haircut. (I'd dig it out but I think she'd be mad)

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

haha, she might be mad, esp if it's a freshman prom photo or something.

laurel, i had no idea your hair was so long!

i'm growing mine out in a shaggy (controlled/layered-ish?) way, so i get it cut about every 4 months, otherwise it's a crazy scene - i can't do one length - too much hair. i can't move away from mtl until it's super long b/c i feel my hairdresser controls my hair destiny.

rrrobyn sharkattack battleforcenet (rrrobyn), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

nah i think its from like spring 2005?

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Rrob, mostly I'm just lazy. And cheap, in a fucked-up New York way: I don't like cheap haircuts, but I can only justify pricey cuts once or twice a year. Speaking of which, I still need to find a better salon -- maybe I'll just go stand in my work lobby and ask the magazine girls where they go.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

i just seem to get a hideous haircut everytime i go to the hair salon. so im rebelling. i havent had my hair cut in a few years.

i've dreamt of rubies! (Mandee), Friday, 14 July 2006 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

no1z3 b4b3z, where is a good place in the city to get a cheap trim?
i don't need anything special, just a little cleanup/maintenance on the ends so i don't want to spend big bucks.

i rebelled in high school and havent had my hair cut by anyone but me since 1987. i dont know how it would work with short haircuts but shoulder length and longer hair is really easy to cut into just about any style.

hoshi coupe, in chelsea and in the east village (9th st btw 2nd & 3rd), is highly recommended by some ilxors. likewise hairmates, which is on 3rd ave just south of st. marks place. i've not been to either, but they're supposed to be good value and do decent work.

rrrobyn sharkattack battleforcenet (rrrobyn), Friday, 28 July 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

Sunny, are you the receptionist at Recall, Inc.? That nano-nail-polish shit was pretty awesome.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Friday, 28 July 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

whoa where did you find that? Most metallic polishes I see are like so thin and see through and yuck, that one is awesome.

Allyzay knows where the interfacing goes. (allyzay), Friday, 28 July 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

its a new covergirl line called 'boundless color'. this one is 'gold rush', i think. admittedly, i did about 8 layers but it dries really fast and what else are you going to while watching project runway?

is recall inc something to do with total recall??

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 28 July 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that's the company that arnold goes to for his mars spy memories. the receptionist has the nail-polish that changes color with a touch. rad.

she talked me out of it :(
but at least i got it a bunch shorter. next time maybe, then it won't be so drastic. it is angular. maybe not so bad anymore since i just washed out all the gunk they put in it and now it won't be super straight. i hate irons and blow dryers and thinning scissors!

nazi bikini (harbl), Thursday, 3 August 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

did u go to sexy scissors?

killy (baby lenin pin), Thursday, 3 August 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

thinning scissors are cheating, i think.
next time: short!

rrrobyn sharkattack battleforcenet (rrrobyn), Thursday, 3 August 2006 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

it is pretty short, actually! and a lot better since washing it out. i am still having trouble with cowlick making the "bangs" part pop up and look kind of mom-ish. but it is not that bad and will grow long enough in like a week or can be glued down with a little gunk
