We think Circuit City and Virgin in Union Sq opens at midnight.

Nintendo World opening at 6am.

Other places to think about:

Toys R Us - not opening at midnight
Best Buy

roc u like a § (ex machina), Saturday, 18 November 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

UPDATE: If the rumors hold any truth, TRU may have only reserved 20% of their stockpile and may still have more units per store than ANY other retailer. If true, this would upgrade the Toys R Us ranking from "Last Chance" to "Best Chance"

Wii looks like exercise. I don't wanna hold my arms out for an hour. Isn;t that how they punish people in the army? "Don't drop these buckets" or something.

sleep (sleep), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

I think whichever poster made the point that "it's not real bowling, don't LET GO of it" has probably got the winning insight here. If you think about the bowling follow-through I can easily imagine how letting go of the remote at the normal time you'd let go of the bowling ball could pitch the controller right off your wrist with the strap loop slipping right off.

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

sure, but they used the slipped-out-of-my-sweaty-hands story, and supposedly the strap loop actually broke which i'd think would take away some of the force.

But if time really is money, why aren't we paying Chinese students and homeless people to play our video games for us too?

Wow, I can't believe that one got by the Wired editors. Momus has fucking tunnel vision / horsey blinders on / a cognitive eyepatch and "grasps" whatever he's writing about without being sufficiently immersed in. See his posts on this thread: "I was otherwise very normal before I became 4 years old" I'm sure someone else can analyze why he likes to frame everything in the manner that makes the most sense to him.

roc u like a § (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

zingamabob.

ANYWAY I don't really think that Momus article is worth discussing, he's just an old man complaining about the kids these days (again), just using a couple of recent articles about gadgets as the frame of reference (as old men who like to complain are wont to do when they are getting paid to grumble and bitch).

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

no, momus isn't very interesting, but i will say this to cement jon's point above -- leave it to momus to explore the dubious 'ethics' of the air-guitar shirt without giving a single thought to the possible medical applications of the underlying technology. fucking idiot.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah the Wii was the only thing that could rouse me at 7:30am. It's really cool so far though the network/web channels aren't implemented yet. We got Zelda and an extra controller. BOXING IS FUN! Mike beat me in every Wii Sport except baseball, which was 0-0 for three innings.

bowling and tennis are probably the best multi player WII sports games. Although if we had the extra nunchuk controller, 1 on 1 boxing would be intense! oh and zelda was awesome until i turned into a goddamn wolf! what the fuck.

Oh no, Link turns into a wolf in that one? My wolf-obsessed gamer friend is probably spanking it to that game right now.
