Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

i have never seen Donnie Darko. whenever i tell people this, they're all, "you should see it, everyone has." and then i tell them that i've never seen the Lion King, and they sort of look at me like i was raised in a barn.

The tendency of women to be almost-raped on Heroes makes me sadface.

CSI is just fucking stupid.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:06 (eighteen years ago)

for some inexplicable reason i have a bunch of co-workers who watch 'crossing jordan' every day on their lunch break.

‘•’u (gear), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:07 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i get a bit sadface about that in heroes too
xpost - cannot deal with crossing jordan either, even though she's a judge
i'm feeling very sensitive about violence and sexism lately - prob b/c i have increased by pop culture intake - it just seems like 80% of pop media/culture is either about violence towards women or is talking down to women (and even worse, talking down to women while appearing to respect our intelligence - 'here is a show just for you women! that's right girl! on it we will talk about high heels/healthy eating/weight-loss/babies! yaay! kick that man outta the room!')
- oh the innocence, but i mean, even though i know this already, being bombarded is no fun

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

crossing jordan is a coroner!

i mentioned something on another thread about the only times i hear sponataneous applause in a movie theater--other than when some bad guy gets his comeuppance--is when a character tells it like it is OR an "uppity" female character is slapped/shot/etc.

‘•’u (gear), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:18 (eighteen years ago)

i wrote a pretty scathing email this morning to a fashion/trends website that sends out daily emails that have become increasingly more insulting over the past couple of months. (i rarely do stuff like that. they are cdn and have a small staff, so i know it'll be read (and pos ignored, of course.)) so that got me fired up all day...

‘•’u (gear), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

haha of course it's 'judging amy' y'know cause she's a judge
crossing jordan intrigued me b/c of the premise but i couldn't watch it - boring

an "uppity" female character is slapped/shot/etc.
pitting women against women is a tried and true tactic, and apparently great entertainment!

36. ilx

am0n (am0n), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:26 (eighteen years ago)

I am going through the same feelings, rrrobyn! the worst part is how people are pushing self-objectification (lol, if I ACT like a sex object, I'm not really being objectified!) and the same old find a man/have babies or you are NOT A REAL WOMAN ideas as if they are "super-progressive feminism for the woman of today!" I highly recommend Ariel Levy's "Female Chauvinist Pigs."

Especially after watching Hostel, I am really starting to align myself with the Blechdel test:
I only go to see a movie if it fills three basic requirements:
(1) It has to have at least two women in it
(2) Who talk to each other
(3) About something other than a man

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:26 (eighteen years ago)

those are pretty good requirements!
and it means i can still watch Aliens! and David Lynch movies! but maybe not vin diesel movies?

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

i still don't fully hate ilx, but i hadn't really spent time on ile for months before the sandbox and then on the sandbox i half forgot about it. was on a few threads today though. it's all about choosing wisely. ilm, NO.
