yah the tokyo mids are summer/fall only. moving somewhere it snows made me realize that 76% of my shoes are only wearable for half the year at best. i've been pushing my luck with the griptape mid pros and a pair of varvatos for converse one-stars made out of corduroy otherwise all my sneakers are packed away. its just boots all the time U_U

the sizing's kinda fucked. they don't have half sizes so i'm wearing them half a size too small :(. so many sick styles but only the laceup ones i could get over my foot.

@ mj2b - the purple is a little more muted irl more gray than purple its "graphite" according to google. they also came with white laces which ruin the look imo

i have to say i'm not really crazy about either pair, they're nice to look at when they're on the floor but they might be the most uncomfortable shoes i own. the soles are really flat and the one-piece construction means that parts are always digging into your feet. the leather/suede are very soft so i guess they're nice to rub on your face but they also offer little or no support and when your foot pronates the seams dig into your feet. the suede laces *never* stay tied and by the end of the day the suede "skirt" is always coming untied. i'm scared to death of spilling anything on them or getting them dirty because they cost like three bills apiece.

finally i wear size 12 and for some reason it doesn't look so great in that size. i guess they look good on five foot tall japanese fashionista dudes but when i wear them i always feel like i'm wearing something out of my wife's closet - she has a ton of suede booties, like all fashionista girls - or like i'm wearing oversized baby shoes.

when it comes down to it if i want to wear black suede shoes i reach for these first:

there were these two grizzled old dudes who used to hang out around downtown palo alto together every day, they were in their 50s or 60s and they had big grey beards and wore the same clothes every day too. big navy nautical sweaters or varsity sweatshirts or hoodies, old paint splattered jeans, clarks boots or really plain one-color nike or vans sneakers, black patagonia rain jackets or army m-65s, rumpled oxford shirts. i'm pretty sure they were some type of self-employed artists. anyway they looked dope as fuck and since then i've been trying to dress like that as much as i can.

they also wore toques and berets but i'm not quite there yet

An accquantaince of mine is the head designer of Clarks north america. Are the wallabees really comfortable? Not sure how I feel about them but if they are maybe I should see if she could swing her friends and family discount for me.

the wallabees are ridiculously comfortable. i wore mine last night. i can walk in them like they were sneakers. i have the clarks desert boot also and those shits hurt my feet. they look a little "nicer", but i walk a mile to get to the bus and my ankle/heel feel like they're on fire.

i feel like a lot of the shoes v & j rep for might be a bit too californ aye aie for my tastes

being a san diegan i don't walk as much as jaxon does but here are my feelings about the comfort of clarks

with the wallabees, the only problem i had was that the crepe soles seemed really high and wobbly at first compared to my sneakers and i constantly thought my ankle was going to roll and break. after a breaking-in perioid though the crepe got worn down enough that it wasn't a problem.

as far as the desert trek goes i actually have suede and not leather and it feels pretty nice to my feet, i think.

i walk a fair amount and my sude d boots are great, i wear them more than any other shoe

How do y'all size your tennis shoes? I have big feet (13E in the Red Wing sizing machine, 12.5EE in Alden boots), and sometimes think I'm buying most of my sneakers a size too small (ie I ought to size up from my boot size). So I ordered PF Flyers (Cousy All-Americans and Number 5s) in 13 and 14 - the 13s feel like most of my other shoes (~half a thumb width of toe room), while the 14s have a full thumb width, but feel kind of floppy when I walk, like there's too much material at the front folding over. I can't decide the if the half-thumb or full-thumb feels closer to right.

Ideally I could just get a 13.5, but that pretty much limits me to Sambas.

its a much lighter version of the winter alta jacket most of the colorways are not your thing i think - lol magenta check - but it looks amazing on i can vouch for that. the winter version comes in more sedate colors lots of navy and dark gray/black but its slightly bulkier and so the fit is less narrow and clean

I think those campers above are much nicer, but I probably won't buy another pair of campers until I have a decent job again - 50-100% more than Clarks seemed like it made sense when I rationalized that they'd "last longer", but it doesn't matter how good the leather and construction are when the sole wears down in the same time.

I've owned many pairs of visvims and I've always ended up selling them. I think they are beautiful shoes but they just don't look right on my size 12 feet. Also tbh FBTs are just not that comfortable.

I have seen some nice nike casual shoes w/o the nike logo - cheap too, thinking about picking up a few

I will admit that the earth show looks a bit like the dress sneaker c. 2000, at least sometimes and definitely in that picture above. In person though, they look stumpy/ branwny/ intriguing/ hippie at the bottom of one's leg. To the average person or non-canadian, however, they may suggest that you have feet problems and have to wear "special" shoes. I alternate b/w the earth shoe and brown clarke desert boots from upthread after some poorly made black leather Kenneth Cole beatle boots basically fell off my feet in tatters, what a sucker I was. Those grey/white sneakers from 4 post up definitely look pretty cool though.

these seem pretty indestructible

picked up a pair of desert boots - like them lots but a little concerned about the fit. tried two sizes, got the bigger one because they felt more comfortable out of the box, but now walking around at home I feel they might be a little loose. wondering if I should have gone half a size down - do these shoes break in over time?

my are broken in but i think they will always feel loose just how theyre constructed. im not a shoe nerd tho.

how's the support? arch support? too flexible in the middle? I need new shoes bad to replace the wallabees. Clarks boots I'm wearing now are fine but not what I want to wear every day.

i have a pair of their dress boots that are really well-made and comfortable, although i don't wear them that much. not as good as church's but better than clarks. most of their boots are really heavy and functional looking tho iirc

I really like the low desert boots, I know, shocker. It does seem like they don't offer any support, though -- I would insole them to death if I were a boy and had some.

I got the 1000 mile wolverines too, Jaxon. In black. Very expensive, but my birthday is coming up. I also tried on the Ascot, another from the series, which I liked a bit more, syle wise they were simpler, but they pinched me in a weird way whereas these were super comfortable. I bought them at a super trendy shop in brooklyn and everyone there was wearing them and they were really distressed and looked great and apparently they gave the shoes to somebody who like, took a belt sander to them or something, to give them that lived in look.

Was thinking about some cross-strap tretorns a bit like that but wound up with generic surplus instead.

Dan. Did I already mention that I had to get vibram rubber soles added to the wolverines? I bout them specifically for the crazy rain we've been having, but with the leather soles on the wet ground, I felt like I was ice skating. So makes them even more expensive :(

My wolverines came with vibram soles on the heal, but the rest of the soul is slick. I have the Clarks boots I posted upthread which I initially bought to deal with snow, because I was still wearing the wallabees and those have no tread at all and I was slipping around.

Those Senecas are nice, but my issues with the food doctor were that I need shoes that are both strong and supportive and with a high heal. Those senecas don't look much better than wallabees in that regard.
