Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

oh man maybe i will try five guys for lunch at work today and then document my bloated fat ass as it goes through the five stages of five guys this afternoon

Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

they just opened one right by our house, up connecticut from the circle

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

that burger looks good but maybe seven or so bites would be enough.

Tim Ellison, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

that is about how many it takes for me to finish one

strongohulkington, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

i have had two $5 five guys gift certificates on my desk for two months now. RESIST TEMPTATION.

strongohulkington, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

i went there yesterday. their food goes right through me ugh D:

the other time i ate there was after drinking one night and i felt like that dog looks

am0n, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

is there a wiki for food?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

should I get pastrami with brie or steakumms with provo today

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

pastrami

no brie

strongohulkington, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

OK I will substitute another kind of a cheese and report back

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

is this a DC thread?

cutty, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

every thread is a dc thread

Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

where am i

cutty, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

dc

Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

pastrami + swiss with lettuce tomato hot peppers and bean sprouts was profoundly over-tomatofied, red juice all over my bun

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)

other than that perfectly enjoyable

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)

red juice all over my bun

is this how you talk on dc threads

cutty, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:09 (eighteen years ago)

lemme post the thread title again for the dc dummies:

Five Guys

am0n, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

why do they even have two sizes of fries? the small is a lunch bag full of fries. is the large where they pour fries down your shirt and stuff your pockets

am0n, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

the large they deliver to your house with a backhoe.

Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

wow that looks a lot like the one on H st but the corkboard for random I CAN HAS BACONS messages from tourists is in the wrong place

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

I used to warn people to never get the large fries unless they were in a group of five and only one person ordered it but now that I no longer have the opportunity to send FG virgins down the street I sort of regret that advice

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

dud: peanut shells completely covering the floor by 11:45 every day

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i never even mess with the peanuts

Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

i still have no good idea as to what pastrami is, despite having lived for 2 months w/ 3 complete & total stoners & worked in a sandwich shop for another month that was entirely populated & run by stoners. i guess maybe i just never worked up the courage to ask.

deeznuts, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

i like how they keep their stock in the dining area so your sitting next to sacks of potatos and vats of peanut oil

am0n, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

when the schef was a kid she used to think pastrami came from its own particular animal, like somewhere there were herds of pastramis getting fattened up

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

somewhere on the way from DC to Hot Springs VA there is a five guys built in an old silver diner-type structure which is infested with flies, that was my first clue that their franchising might be proceeding a little too quickly

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

i like how five guys tells you where your potatoes that day are from

Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

the sheer number of locations in virginia alone, knowing that there were all of about six total three years ago, is basically terrifying

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

five guys is the Checkers for the 21st century

you know what we really need is more SONICS

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

bullshit TOMBOT. Five Guys is quality.

what you need TOMBOT are some TATER TOTS

Mr. Que, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

i've seen so many SONIC ads but have never laid eyes on an actual SONIC restaurant

elmo argonaut, Monday, 7 May 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

sonic needs to get their marketing department to stop wasting money

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 7 May 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

also five guys is basically impossible to eat, 8080 about the concept of large fries there, i mean the small size is an entire giant brown paper bag full of nothing but fries. it's like 3 lbs of fries. why would you order a large, ever, unless you are trying to feed a small country?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 7 May 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

elmo 4 real?? they have decent burgers but their boston cream shakes taste exactly like toothpaste.

btw tater tots are excellent with mayo

i'm weeping to think of pastrami treated like this. bean sprouts!

elmo argonaut, Monday, 7 May 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

the only drive-in place around here is a tiny crappy A&W

elmo argonaut, Monday, 7 May 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

you could go inside the sonic but why would you want to do that

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 7 May 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

i love the drive in places on the way to philly from nyc....

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Monday, 7 May 2007 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

SONIC in Lexington has no indoor seatig but they do have benches. Good for bike ride pit stop.

BLASTOCYST, Monday, 7 May 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

sonics don't ever have indoor seating as far as i know. and their food sucks. i like that they always seem to have some new featured speciality item every week, but it's always like their standards -- sucky.

when did this happen? there used to be about a mile from where i grew up in massachusetts. i'd assumed the whole place went under or got bought out in the '80s.

chicago kevin, Monday, 7 May 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

iirc Jack in the Box had an E. Coli outbreak in the early 90's that resulted in a few deaths and a hell of a lot of bad press

elmo argonaut, Monday, 7 May 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

hm well i dunno about that. i see they stretch out from the west to north carolina and up to illinois as well. but they hate arkansas apparently so you can't rely on having JACK IN THE BOX at every stop if you take I-40 from california to north carolina.

http://www.jackinthebox.com/images/locations/us.gif

yeah it was that E. Coli outbreak that prompted the image makeover + corporate spokesman Jack

iiiijjjj, Monday, 7 May 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

hmmmmm, but they are in illinois...

k, the newish sonic a block from where pleasant plains and i work has indoor seating and a drive thru. no drive in. inside the restaurant you sit at a table and pick up a phone to place your order.

i heard krystal is opening in your town real soon. JEALOUS.

sunny successor, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

whoa kate that is awesome and i will surely eat there. what's your source for these delicious informations?

deeznuts, jack in the box sucking ya that's a good one bro DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH

RE: the FIVE GUYS bacon double cheese up there, is that MUSHROOMS under the patty on the left? cause it's either that or entrails or something

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

um..pleasant plains. he was reading it from somewhere. i dont know. they're calling it the first arkansas krystal. apparently west memphis isnt in arkansas anymore.

sunny successor, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

SONIC in Lexington has no indoor seatig but they do have benches. Good for bike ride pit stop.

haha I used to stop and eat there when I lived waaaaay out Versailles Rd and rode my bike to and from LCC every day. I would intentionally induce burger lethargy and take a nap in the grass where I had frequent nightmares about riding out into a desert and getting lost.

There is one with a limited menu in the Fayette Mall foodcourt now.

regular fries=seemed like less fries but was probably not. i ate two hours ago and i'm still really full. so 10,000=y

have we had a ranking the new york burgers thread yet, I can't remember

k where can i find one of these

bell_labs, Friday, 11 May 2007 04:06 (eighteen years ago)

i was wrong about there being two sizes, but it was still a good portion. they split it almost in half and put two (i think) bacon strips on it then slice of cheese. the fries are a dangerous add-on and i'll probably never eat their burgers again because of the "side-effects" but two plain dogs would make a good cheap meal

holy crap @ bacon omelette dog

tehresa, Thursday, 12 June 2008 13:48 (seventeen years ago)

we did the five guys/in and out challenge: 1) Had Five Guys for dinner, 2) next day flew to vegas had in and out for lunch. . .

nd guess what FIVE GUYS IS BETTER THAN IN AND OUT in all categories and especially:

1) the bun. in and out's bun is weeeeeeak and crumbly. five guys has a bun that is soft and delicious
2) fries=five guys fries are thicker and tastier and yes we got our in and out fries "well done" they were still so average
3) burger=five guys better is tastier, thicker, better. in and out's burger was thin and uninspired

Mr. Que, Thursday, 12 June 2008 13:52 (seventeen years ago)

it should be mentioned that you can get 2 in and out burgers for the price of one five guys

jhøshea, Thursday, 12 June 2008 13:58 (seventeen years ago)

--a good point. in and out was pretty cheap. . .or maybe it's just that 5 guys is on the expensive side

Mr. Que, Thursday, 12 June 2008 13:59 (seventeen years ago)

I meant the Shack in BK. I know where the one in mhhtn is :\

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Thursday, 12 June 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

ehh i go to the 5 Guys near my apt. out in the sticks more anyway, but it was nice to have one a couple blocks from the office -- definitely felt a little stranded where it was, though, it's almost like the surrounding area doesn't even know Park Avenue exists

crazypoxyfule (some dude), Tuesday, 27 October 2009 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

the other day a friend was visiting from colorado we passed a five guys and he told me abt how a new neighbor just moved from dc and was saying the only thing he missed was no five guys then realized like a week later there was a one 3 blocks away - these things are spreading like crazy - theres got to be like 500 guys by now

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 27 October 2009 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

agree the location wasn't ideal, thats why i used lolscarequotes. just been seeing so many restaurants, big and small, getting shuttered in the past few months. anyway there's still one @ the harborplace i think

what people don't get about in-n-out is that nobody in california actually believes that this is the best hamburger in the world, but it's $2 for a hamburger that is great, omnipresent, and has v. quality ingredients.

I live on the cote est now and go to five guys once in a while cause there's one near my work. I like the fries and the peanuts and it's not bad but once you're paying that much for a meal you might as well spend the extra few bucks and go to a sit down place.

first had 5 guys in an airport somewhere lol. NY? DC? got a small burger, which seemed like a pretty ordinary burger joint burger, but better than most, and super cheap for airport food. like normal burger price, 3 or 4 bucks. it did not seem massive or physically debilitating. it was just a burger. actually i've only had 5 guys in airports lol, and only twice. ten guys.

now they have one in seattle, which seems incorrect. plus it is way out in northgate, stuck in the side of a movie theater, three or four parking lots away from anywhere you'd want to be. it makes me sad because i feel that it is lost and needs to be taken home.

Str8 Drapin It (chrisv2010), Thursday, 11 November 2010 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

it was ok. kinda just like a good burger stand. nothing special. way too many fries. and why is a regular 2 patties and a small only 1?

jaxon, Thursday, 11 November 2010 22:10 (fourteen years ago)

you're saying a small should be one and a half?

wakafledia (k3vin k.), Thursday, 11 November 2010 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe one should be reg and two should be large

Better yet call the single patty a grande and the double a venti

tebow gotti (k3vin k.), Friday, 20 January 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

huh, the dudes who work at my local 5 guys have to be the cheeriest group of fast food employees i have ever seen. not even to the customers, just to each other. looks like they're having a party back there at the grill.

tylerw, Friday, 20 January 2012 20:11 (thirteen years ago)

mizzell, Friday, 20 January 2012 20:42 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, i've been to in n out, but in n out is usually so busy when i'm there that they're doing more work than being smiley.

2 five guys in my metro area are always packed

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 20 January 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

there are people in my office that eat at 5 guys like three times a week! can't understand why they all aren't double obese.i have to plan months in advance with two a days at the gym before I can even eat there.

Aerosol, Friday, 20 January 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

well, with adequate exercise, an average-ish guy can take in more than 2500 calories a day and stay balanced. i doubt a 5 burger tops that, even with fries and a coke.

not that i'm anyone's role model when it comes to such things...

where was that? the only 5 Guys i've ever seen close was the one near my old workplace in midtown Baltimore that's just in kind of a sad no man's land where few things thrive so i tended to blame the location
