I just want like Alien Lanes and Bee Thousand and some other randoms. I think my CDs were scratched so I sold it to Newbury Comics?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Can give u. I think there's probably 2 or 3 other must-haves besides the ones you listed. Also have a playlist someone made of random highlights from their tossed off sidebar releases.

listening to Masami Tsuchiya "Rice Music". pretty fucking epic. has YMO and Japan players on it and sounds like a mix of the two.

jaxon, Thursday, 9 August 2007 02:39 (eighteen years ago)

that record is amazing. also features percy jones, unsung hero of fretless bass

creme1, Thursday, 9 August 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

you should check out ippu do, masami tsuchiya's band. their album from 1983 night mirage features richard barbieri and steve jansen from japan and is similar ro rice music. my fav is the first record, a weird mix of ska, new wave, and tripped out jpop w/traditional instruments and arrangements. really cool

creme1, Thursday, 9 August 2007 02:55 (eighteen years ago)

i'm assuming he's not the same Masami Tsuchiya that was a member of Aum Shinrikyo

jaxon whar did u shoppe in LA?

sanskrit, Thursday, 23 August 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

amoeba, record surplus & soundsations

jaxon, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

soundsations is in hometown (westchester, near LAX) and is run by really nice guys, but completely clueless. total dinosaurs. listen to elvis costello, squeeze, pearl jam, etc. an album of smashing pumpkins covers was on when i was there. but i usually find the coolest shit for really cheap because they don't know what they fuck they're doing. found that Alice Coltrane w/strings for 15$. you have to really dig though.

jaxon, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

currently listening to Dan Deacon. i actually really like it despite the fact that i hate his ironic ugliness and annoying videos.

yeah its on rong.

its ok. title track is smooth, clean, mid-tempo live disco/ whitey neo-soul. feels too short.

1987 is more nu-disco dancefloor sounding. feels too short.

Two Far Gone - (Carlos Hernandez Natural Mix) is back to live disco/ whitey neo-soul but groovier sound with improv keys and guitars. feels too long.

will leo if u want.

http://lorian.bigmindcatalyst.com/cgi/bmc.pl?page=pubpg1.html&node=1009

i found a record in the thrift store yesterday for a buck, but i've seen it at the local expensive beat digger store (forget how much for) and online it sells for 30-40$. it's by the New Troubadours and it's mellow acid folk. mine's got a big ol scratch on one side though :(

jaxon, Thursday, 23 August 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

that's a weird record. we had it at the shop once, and sold it for around $20 i think. i saw it a BUNCH of copies at FMU last year for between $10 and $50; go figure. My favorite religious hippy dippy folk LP i bought on the cheap is EARTHRISE.

jaxon, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:07 (eighteen years ago)

jaxon, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:08 (eighteen years ago)

jaxon, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:09 (eighteen years ago)

yeah but that doesn't make it a sonic youth side band, dude.

why does the wifey get free records? giving out free clothes?

she doesn't do anything w/clothes, besides tellin chix where to shop, and what restaurants to eat at, and what movies to watch, and what music to listen to. it's like citysearch + myspace + a blog

have you heard the new album? to me, this sounds like sonic youth (other tracks even more so)

jaxon, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

no i have not heard it because it is not out and i am not an elite blogging type such as your wifey. i think it comes out in october?

hstencil, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:21 (eighteen years ago)

listen to the clip, tell me that sounds like sonic youth and stop trying to be contrarian.

jaxon, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:25 (eighteen years ago)

how am i being contrarian? it's not a sonic youth side band, dude.

hstencil, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:28 (eighteen years ago)

also i will listen to that later but i have seen them plenty of times and have a few albums and honestly a lot of their stuff reminds me of some weird amalgam of harry pussy, teenage jesus and the jerks and the germs.

hstencil, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:30 (eighteen years ago)

BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THEM!

jaxon, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:30 (eighteen years ago)

there's an interview clip w/ranaldo on pfork where he talks about how much songier they are now.
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/43929-the-magik-markers-reveal-ibossi-new-album

jaxon, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:31 (eighteen years ago)

dude loud guitars don't always equal sonic youth. older magik markers stuff doesn't have near the melodicism of most sy traxxx. i heard that the new one was supposed to be "different" so maybe it does, sure. but i dunno, i've been listening to them for a while now, and sy wouldn't be the first band to come to mind when describing them (see post above).

i don't even know what we're arguing about anymore anyway. i just am jealous you got a copy.

xpost - yeah, their old stuff isn't songy. n00b.

hstencil, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

anyway let's just relax and watch this: resurrect dead

hstencil, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

I just found Boss, shall I put it on lmj?

W4LTER, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:49 (eighteen years ago)

putting something up on lmj before it's even out seems kinda tacky to me, but hey it's a free country.

hstencil, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:52 (eighteen years ago)

that was what i was thinking..

W4LTER, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 06:52 (eighteen years ago)

slapp happy - ça va

dmr, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

How were Golden Error? I couldn't stay past like 11.30 so I wussed out, but I wanted to hear them...Pink Reason and esp Lil Claw not really my thing.

Laurel, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

lil claw bailed in DC to go visit a grandma, so all 5-6 of us there got a rad-as-shit blues control set, then an impromptu psychedelic horseshit set, and then pink reason. everything ruled, awesome night, everybody hung and was cool.

69, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

yeah russ said that dc show was good.

hstencil, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

Close Calls with Brick Walls out on Load, dudes.

If this was already discussed somewhere on ILX and I didn't see it, I APOLOGIZE.

Tim Ellison, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

Thought Pink Reason was great; also VCR i am into. Such enthusiasm for rock n roll. Li'l Claw had some good moments in their set, but I wish the sound was better--couldn't hear what she was doing with that violin/contact mic combo at all.

ian, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

whoa i played w VCR i think??
