I was at a CD stoop sale in yuppie Brooklyn the other day, and this guy came by with his baby and was talking to the kid about records in that way that people talk to their dogs.
Kid: "Wazzis?" Dad: "Oh we don't want that. This came from a record club, so the sound quality isn't as good. We'll just put that back"
My first thought was "that can't be true" and my second thought was "what a fucking dickhead"

― 69, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 14:54 (seventeen years ago)
Isn't there a foolproof way to do this and not get caught?
Also re drill holes - -what is up with cds with a slice taken out of the spine?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 15:09 (seventeen years ago)
Don't some used stores refuse to take record club cds? Does Amazon have diff barcodes?
http://www.foetusized.org/cdcutouts.html
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago)
you can drill a whole box of cds on the spine easier than through the barcode, some stores refuse rec club cds, just like some refuse promos, and amazon has the same barcode as buying new in a store

Bush Buddies Represent U.S. Abroad Our country sends ambassadors to almost every nation in the world. Most of these men and women are diplomats who’ve spent their careers working in the foreign service. However, regardless of whether the President is a Democrat or a Republican, about one-third of our ambassadors are nondiplomats who are either friends of the Chief Executive or major political donors. Some current examples: * U.S. Ambassador to Australia Robert McCallum was a member with Bush of Skull & Bones at Yale. * U.S. Ambassador to Belize Robert Dieter was one of Bush’s roommates at Yale. * U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe was a close friend of Bush’s at Yale and also a member of Skull & Bones. * U.S. Ambassador to Hungary April Foley dated George Bush at Harvard Business School, according to press reports. * U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Michael Wood was Bush’s friend at prep school and his frat brother at Yale. * U.S. Ambassador to China Clark Randt was also a frat brother at Yale. * U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer was Bush’s partner when he owned the Texas Rangers.
* U.S. Ambassador to China Clark Randt was also a frat brother at Yale.

maybe radiohead could help his son
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago)
i dunno it could be that he exists only in a dimension we have no access to - or he could be half-human leading an otherwise normal life with no idea whats really going on.
― jhøshea, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago)
its true maybe radiohead has access to that dimension
― jhøshea, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 16:41 (seventeen years ago)
Also, we could choose to pay radiohead as little or as much as we wanted for the son saving.

Unless we wanted the son delivered in a very fancy box somewhat later in the year.

inventor of the jarvik artificial buttsecks
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 16:49 (seventeen years ago)
seriously tho i thought he was talking konami :(
wait, jw, you are on to something, with the contrabass saxes/artifical heart axis. i just stumbled across a sax chat board and found the following
JUST USE TEFLON POWDER AND YOU WILL BE IN A GREAT PLACE!!!!! Your other problems will vanish and it will protect your sax metal! It works. You can use it for making sure neck crook adjustments are tight too: mix it with some mineral oil, stir it in, and then screw into the tennon and you neck will have a permanent stiffie until you say so.....try it before you knock it.. I got mine on ebay for cheap and it came fast and in great condition.
Funy, Teflon valves are used as artificial heart valves (because they are inert and have a very low quoefficient of static fiction), bladder valves, etc. etc. etc., and people are afraid to put them in their saxophones!!!! DO IT!
. . .if we could just get jarvik's son to spread the word about Teflon valves, we'd really have something here. Now the question is, does Radiohead use contrbass saxes on the new record?????

I sang in a concert that was accompanied by serpent, sackbutt and ophicleide a couple of years ago. One of the awesomest concerts ever.
My Columbia House haul circa 1986:
Madonna - S/T Madonna - Like A Virgin Madonna - True Blue The Bangles - Different Light The Police - Synchronicity AC/DC - Who Zoomed Who Prince & the Revolution - Around The World In A Day Prince & the Revolution - Parade Pet Shop Boys - Actually ...
I can't remember the others right now. I know I did the CD version of this in 1990 and got:
The Pixies - Doolittle The Feelies - Only Life Guadalcanal Diary - Flip-Flop Martin L. Gore - Counterfeit EP ...
And I can't remember the rest of those, either.

Among the singers in that last picture I posted are:
- one person I regularly have sex with - three people I went to college with - three people I used to sing with in the BSO's chorus - one bass player for a math-rock trio - one shiatzu/horse massage therapist - three people I sang with in a different church choir - my on-again/off-again voice teacher - one Canadian who has since been deported - two people who were 2/3 of a really awful, mind-melting menage a trois - two people who identified as gay at the time this picture was taken who are now in monogamous hetero relationships

I just brought up jarvik because this morning after I got up I started randomly thinking about some song my head must have made up while I was asleep that went "I'm doctor jarvik jarvik, inventor of the jarvik jarvik jarvik, doctor jarvik jarvik, inventor of the jarvik jarvik jarvik"
too much late night teevee
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 17:56 (seventeen years ago)
Actually, looking at that picture again shows that you can't actually see one of the gay-then-straight people (he was from Mozambique and basically was into guys up until he graduated from conservatory, at which point his parents introduced him to a girl and he basically ditched/sublimated his gayness for her).
There are also three parents, two ringers and one bitter, lonely guy (now everyone in the picture has at least one tag).
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

Jarvik is best known from the media circus surrounding the 1982 implantation of his Jarvik-7 into the Seattle dentist, Barney Clark. Although the artificial heart continued to beat, Barney died of multi-organ failure 112 days after the operation, tethered to a dishwasher sized air compressor. The heart device acted as a blender which chewed up the blood cells. Recipients of the Jarvik-7 suffered horribly for months, finally succumbing to infections, strokes, convulsions and immune system failure with progressive decline in T cells, thus making the Jarvik-7 another cause of HIV negative AIDS. During the ensuing media coverage, the New York Times dubbed the Jarvik Heart the “Dracula of Medical Technology”. Jarvik-7 patients had the Kevorkian option of assisted suicide, a small on-off button which allowed the mechanical heart to be stopped when too unbearable.
