The world's other most expensive pizza was made last year by chef Domenico Crolla, who sold it on ebay for the Fred Hollows Foundation. He said it was worth more than $3700 - topped with gold.

Did anyone ever go to that HUGE GREEK PLACE in Brockton, MA - Cristo's ? There used to be lines for lunch and dinner there and the place was seriously like 300 capacity and had 3 buildings. It was so awesome. Went back for my uncle's funeral and it was a shadow of itself. Produce sucked.

But yea, awesome greek pizza there

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'VE BEEN TO CRISTO'S!!!!

the local pizza joint where i grew up was greek. i didn't realize there was any other kind until i was about 11 or 12.

my first job was making and delivering greek pizza in southern nh/northern ma.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

there was a place "Excellent Pizza" near my parents' house growing up. Next door to the 7-11. Finally killed off by things like stuffed crust pizza and dominoes thin crust. Went out of business, but reappeared a few years later in a MUCH small location in a West Warwick strip mall (within a block or two of where the Station fire occurred, FWIW.)

ian, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

i dont get cpk hate. bbq pizza is tits and so are the sandwhiches.

chaki, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

There's this place in Red River Gorge called MIGUEL'S PIZZA & ROCK CLIMBING. It is where I've had probably 3 of the best 5 pizzas in my life. Last one I had there had sweet potatoes and shallots and cilantro. Also you can by climbing gear there.

The ubiquity of chicken on pizza at cpk annoys me. Like the very crust of pizza, chicken, especially white meat is just a vehicle for a sauce or flavor, so why waste space and potential flavor adding insipid shit like chicken? Even worse? Potato on pizza. It's just as insipid, plus you get all the gustatory delight of alloying two starches together. Wtf?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_marzu

...

Several food safety issues have been raised with casu marzu:

* Anecdotal reports of allergic reactions.
* A risk of the decomposition advancing to a toxic state. (Folk wisdom in Sardinia holds that the presence of still-living larvae are an assurance that this has not yet happened.)
* Risk of enteric myiasis: intestinal larval infection. Piophila casei larvae can pass through the stomach alive (human stomach acids do not usually kill them) and take up residency for some period of time in the intestines, where they can cause serious lesions as they attempt to bore through the intestinal walls. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and bloody diarrhea.

ah yes casu marzu: the more maggots there are on the cheese = the more cheese is eaten by them and therefore shitted back in it= the more the cheese is creamy and delicious, so they say. they also say its fun to bust the maggots with one's tongue against the top of the palate, like little champagne bubbles explosions, for they participate largely in the taste of the cheese. maybe there's a lol, internet metaphor to be found in there.

Grandfather used to be keen on the casu marzu when he was back in the Old Country. He died of heart failure aged 54. I dunno.

The larvae themselves appear as translucent white worms, about 8 mm (1/3 inch) long. When disturbed, the larvae can jump for distances up to 15 cm (6 inches), prompting recommendations of eye protection for those eating the cheese.
