seriously considering making the trip for this

if you don't get tickets for anything at all, which I'm sure I won't, is it worth it? I guess you just stand in a big mob real real far away from where the actual swearing-in is taking place?

dmr, Thursday, 6 November 2008 18:25 (sixteen years ago)

good ?
i think it would just be a super fun party

;n_n; (tehresa), Thursday, 6 November 2008 19:08 (sixteen years ago)

friend said she is getting tickets by writing to sherrod brown? she didn't mention paying for anything but maybe it's different in ohio where way less people want to go. maybe i will write him also and do a free ticket giveaway right here on this thread

horrible (harbl), Thursday, 6 November 2008 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

you don't need tix to stand on the motorcade route, at least you didn't last time. i was right in front.

Blackhawk and/or Cubs fans help me out!

Since there are a lot of Chicago people here and I’m desperate, I offer the following: I have a pair of inauguration tickets that I will trade for a pair of NHL Winter Classic tickets (that I will also pay face value for). A special ILX bonus is included: since tickets are pick-up only they will be listed under the name of a much-despised New England Republican (who in reality is a super swell guy). This is a great connection for snowmobile enthusiasts!*

Surely someone knows someone?

* Offer is void if I win that non-season ticket holder lottery.

:) Mrs Edward Cullen XD (max), Friday, 5 December 2008 15:30 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, yes they are. Actually I think EtOH can only be served until 5 a.m.; don't know how long the gap is before they can start serving again?

quincie, Friday, 5 December 2008 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

Ethanol???????????

Mr. Que, Friday, 5 December 2008 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

They can start serving again at 10am - I think maybe half the bars will stay open until 5, and 10% of those 24 hours. I mean, if you let people drink until 5am and then stay open after you're really just asking for people to throw up and fall asleep in your bar.

Mr. Que, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:17 (sixteen years ago)

Ca-hoot na na na oh oh (HI DERE), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

gabbneb why u wanna go down after the party's over??

que - it's ace bandages, not zombie flesh. get it straight.

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

i'm more interested in the new admin vibe (and what's on at the museums) than the party/zoo. and it costs a lot less.

gabbneb, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

are any of you guys actually hooked up or en route to getting tickets? i waited like three days and all my senators, etc, have stopped accepting applications.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT HATRED OF THE ETHIOPIAN IS NOT LEGALLY CONVEYED TO THE WIFEY UPON SIGNING OF THE MARITAL CONTRACT.

quincie, Friday, 5 December 2008 18:02 (sixteen years ago)

agreed quincie - we will not take Mark's bizarre dislike of Ethiopian food out on you. that's weird about SF. very small world. especially for my bidness.

hi tza. I hear you are coming down to DC for inauguration?

stinking center-right free-market corpse (Kitties!!!), Friday, 5 December 2008 19:23 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno why anybody would come down for the inauguration when there's the NEW ADMIN VIBE starting the week after

TOMBOT, Friday, 5 December 2008 19:27 (sixteen years ago)

uh oh. now look what you've started. do tell.

stinking center-right free-market corpse (Kitties!!!), Friday, 5 December 2008 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

haha gab coming down here the following week for NEW ADMIN VIBE is such a perfect intersection of his government wonkishness and phish fandom.

I'M ACTUALLY FINE (I DIED), Friday, 5 December 2008 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

while new admin vibe is obv awesome, i want to actually celebrate and share those vibes with my fellow humankind.

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

won't the NEW ADMIN VIBE take a few weeks to set-up?

it's a pretty big vibe

new admin vibe is everyone remotely connnected to dem politics scrambling to see who knows somebody who knows somebody, because no way does team obama have time to sort through 250,000 resumes!

I HATE NFL (daria-g), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

MotorwayAve (5:26:48 PM): what would be the ultimate in person rickroll
roxymuzak (5:27:50 PM): i would say, traveling to DC for the inauguration after they opened up the entire mall and instead of obama coming out and being inaugurated it is rick astley performing "never gonna give you up"

roxymuzak, Friday, 5 December 2008 22:39 (sixteen years ago)

pretty decent rick roll would be leaving yr man at the altar and playing never gonna give you up instead of the wedding march, imho

Tanganyika laughter epidemic (gbx), Friday, 5 December 2008 22:48 (sixteen years ago)

Congrats, I didn't think you got to do stuff like that.

i would like to come, there is even a CMU bus trip but I am already freaking out about the amount of work they want me to do.

Ed, Friday, 16 January 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

i don't do stuff like that for a living. but i am lucky enough to work in the same section as our production crew. Past 2 inaugs I said hell no, but this time I asked in August.

Ed, Saturday, 17 January 2009 00:47 (sixteen years ago)

has you enjoyed the delights of the cathedral of learning and the second largest inner-city park in the states yet?

(my only experience of pittsburgh)

very envious of anyone who's going to be in dc on tuesday. came very close to some drunken flight-buying last night but it didn't quite happen.

schenley park can wait till it warms the fuck up, or at least gets close to freezing.

this is as close to the cathedral of learning as i have got but I must get over there.

8====D ------ ㋡ (max), Monday, 19 January 2009 19:10 (sixteen years ago)

no doubt. just walked around downtown for a while. tons of people

in my neighborhood a few blocks away, there is a giant inflatable george w bush with pinocchio nose (it's about 20 feet tall, like.. if you ever see those giant rats the unions bring out for protests) & has a target on the front where you are supposed to throw shoes at it. lots and lots of shoes left there

not sure where i would have done that...... i dont think they were selling replicas of arethas hat....... they would have had to make it pretty quickly......... or had advance knowledge of what it would look like

my friend + i woke up @ 430 AM to get there (his parents live in prince georges county & we stayed w/ them) and took the train in -- after the inaugural met some friends for drinks in georgetown, that spent the day bar hopping/walking to capitol hill, took a cab somewhere else, went to three more bars, stayed out until 4am @ nite, crashing at a friend's place -- stupidly i stayed up to watch the lakers-cavs game the night before

my sleeping schedule is way messed up and i gave myself a cold but it was a great time

the crowd was insanely huge

xhuxk d (deej), Thursday, 22 January 2009 07:52 (sixteen years ago)

damn deej why didn't you tell me you were in my general locality

some dude, Thursday, 22 January 2009 14:43 (sixteen years ago)

i found out afterward that four or five of my coworkers & a former colleague who i hadn't seen for a year (and had moved to atlanta, isn't in DC a lot) were pretty much in the exact same part of the mall right by the washington monument. didn't run into any of them. oh well!

wish i'd had the energy to go bar hopping afterward but just ended up getting korean food for dinner & crashing out at home.

NFL RUNOFF miss u plaxico (daria-g), Thursday, 22 January 2009 16:58 (sixteen years ago)

They said on the news there were 0 arrests! wau

haha, i think everybody was right near the monument--so was my whole family (didnt see them, they didnt see each other) and some other friends--i guess it was cause they had the jumbotrons there + they blocked off 14th st (corny)

8====D ------ ㋡ (max), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:10 (sixteen years ago)

i was by the 3rd jumbotron back -- was the sound + picture off at the other jumbotrons also?

xhuxk d (deej), Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)

why would they hv arrested anybody when Bush & Dick went out the back door?

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:18 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i think there was an audio delay on all the jumbotrons

8====D ------ ㋡ (max), Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:22 (sixteen years ago)

hey so this was pretty rad

i ended up just behind the reflecting pool, in front of the jumbotrons. came out of the 395 tunnel and got really really lucky. there wasn't even a security screening at my checkpoint, they just let people through.

my video of GWB going byebye

i met tombot. tried to go see moodyman but nothing was doing. ended up in an irish bar where people dirty danced with an obama cutout. slept on the floor of union station
