Tombot, Jon, what kind of coffee makers do you have?

gr8080, Sunday, 27 January 2008 05:55 (seventeen years ago)

A modded Xbox is cheaper than this set, but may not fit your decor. I don't know if you really want to spend $190 on a "Ultimate" set of a series they haven't stopped making - and for Standard Def DVDs.

But if it's what you want, you go get it. Buy us a box of chocolates to distract us from hatin' for a minute and get some Bond, and deduct it as a training expense.

Kerm, Sunday, 27 January 2008 06:04 (seventeen years ago)

Tivo allows for wireless or direct download from hard drive; it is my friend of friends.

forksclovetofu, Sunday, 27 January 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

I got all four box sets for $80 on Black Friday. The extras are actually pretty rad -- lots of well done documentaries, TV clips, vintage trailers/promo material, interviews, stuff like that. And the remastering job is actually noticeably better. I've been watching through them in chronological order, because yes, I am that big a geek.

Jeff Treppel, Monday, 28 January 2008 04:31 (seventeen years ago)

you get a better sense of the overall story arc that way.

It's actually pretty interesting to follow the evolution of the series, and see where certain conventions started and how the movies adapted to the times. That being said, You Only Live Twice has kind of sapped my will to go on for a little while. Giant volcano base aside, pretty damn lifeless. And then there is the wasteland known as the Roger Moore years...

I have nothing to say about the English Beat.

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 04:52 (seventeen years ago)

I saw SpecialBeat live the other week. They did all the Beat and Specials hits, it was pretty damn good.

Trayce, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 05:09 (seventeen years ago)

where did they get their name?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 06:05 (seventeen years ago)

That being said, You Only Live Twice has kind of sapped my will to go on for a little while. Giant volcano base aside, pretty damn lifeless.

SO RONG
I might agree with you on the roger moore era but otoh I have come to appreciate all the extra zaniness that was added during those years. also some of the most amazing bond girls in the franchise history - compare to brosnan and you'll see moore's career is quite fucking awesome. living daylights and casino royale are the only pieces from the more recent stuff that come close. but whatever.

I have nothing else to say about the english beat myself! GIVE ME DAS 12" COLLECTION WITH MARCH OF THE SWIVELHEADS

Good Bond movies: Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, Casino Royale.

All of them have their moments, but there haven't been too good Bond movies in a row since that first Connery streak. Have you seen You Only Live Twice recently? Connery just seems bored, the writing is subpar (despite being written by Roald Dahl), and the direction uninspired. The set design is phenomenal, but otherwise a clunker.

I deserve a Thunderbird bass, but that'll have to wait for a bit. Or a year.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 2 March 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

im a big fan of the stan smiths and the nike cortez's, and wallabys are a good look forever. are shell toes ok to wear again?? for awhile i couldnt even look at them

deej, Sunday, 2 March 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

superstars are kinda iffy, but i think they're okay if they're clean. i like the hemp ones because the shelltoe is about the same color as the hemp which makes them scan less obviously as adidas superstars. the snakeskin ones i can get away with because they're snakeskin.

adidas has been making lots of loud and terrible shoes for a few years now. but speaking of clean adidas, i forgot that i own a pair of these adidas tennis vintage (the original shelltoe sneaker) which i haven't come quite to terms with but that i'm starting to get into more.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 2 March 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

another shoe i've been thinking about a lot lately is the nike tennis classic.

stan smiths are basically the best shoes ever, i always keep a clean pair on hand, so i think it's ok for nike and new balance to blatantly rip them off, actually, i think it's cool.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 2 March 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

I had Sambas in college but they are garbage for running.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

sambas are too "loud" for my taste. black suede, black shiny leather, black matte leather, corrugated leather on the tongue, brown sole, white shiny leather, gold lettering. each of the pieces sort of pops and it doesn't have the sort of "unity" that a cleaner shoe like a gazelle has.

it is true though, all the teenagers i know who play soccer at lunchtime, afterschool and on weekends basically wear black sambas

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

I liiiiiike Sambas and their look-alikes, but they do come in some RLY AWES other colors if you look hard enough. Need insoles, tho, very flat.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

i think the thing w/ sambas is its just ... they are sambas. they look like sambas look. no one wearing sambas is going for some sort of loud vs. quiet textural color scheme tension, they are just saying 'i wear sambas.' thats really all there is to say

deej, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)
