Some transfers come to light only when a footballer is spotted relaxing on the yacht of a rival club's billionaire owner or dining at the favourite restaurant of their chief executive, but a young Crystal Palace player has moved the whole business into the modern era by posting details of a proposed move on his Facebook page.

Ashley-Paul Robinson, an 18-year-old winger who has been with the Championship side for five years, wrote a message on the social networking site announcing that he was having a trial with Fulham. His 194 Facebook friends were not the only people able to read exciting news of his dalliance with the Premier League club, however. The message could be seen by all 2.7m members of the site who have joined its London section, unwittingly breaking the story to supporters of both clubs and to anyone else in the capital interested in reading candid transfer gossip.

Robinson posted a message on Saturday which read: "Ashley-Paul is goin fulham on monday. If i pull dis off im on dis ting." On Sunday he added: "Ashley-Paul is travling 2 Bath With Fulham Fingers Crossed."

After news of the move spread, he posted a new message yesterday afternoon saying: "Ashley-Paul has been very naughty lol!"

Palace, however, have not found Robinson's frankness a laughing matter. "It's pretty embarrassing for the club that this guy is telling the world he's looking to leave the club," said a Palace source. "Perhaps someone should tell him to be a bit more private about what he's putting on the internet."

Robinson has been at Palace since he was a 14-year-old academy player and he broke into the first team at the end of last season, making his first-team debut as a late substitute against Preston North End in March. A month later he was offered a new contract by the club's manager, Neil Warnock, but a parting of the ways now seems inevitable. "We feel it's probably better that he looks elsewhere to further his career," said Warnock.

Was this ever a serious thread? I don't think so. I think it was a tedious and boring thread that Roz and I pretty much breathed some silly fun into.

I wouldn't be caught dead on an ILM dance thread. You geeks could suck the life out of a gabber track with your pointless tedious .xls spreadsheet genrefication and your "ooh, girls like it now, it's jumped the shark" homosocial buddy-buddy dickmunching.

If you'd stop listening to music you love because someone you didn't like got into it, well - clearly you didn't love it very much to start with. Now take it to your livejournal if you wanna just bitch.

Let's talk about the non- pop culture pop culture enjoyed by Real Amurricans in the '70s.

Aside from the "Amurricans" part, referring to what is in fact mainstream popular culture as "non pop culture pop culture" just because it doesn't have the ironic kitsch value to be resuscitated seems awkward and also a little condescending.

"body work/fuck my brains out" was the double single.
Dream has a lyric where he talked about dropping his next album in 2011 ("6/7/2011, ahma drop that Love Affair"). He didn't but he did drop the single. Love IV is a reference to the fact that his prior three albums all have love in the title: Love Hate, Love vs Money, Love King.

The thing that really bothers me about this is the general Radiohead fan community's insistence on calling their albums "LP7" "LP8" etc before they come out. ILX is not the first place I've seen this. Brony levels of dork shit.

JAZZ IS LIKE HEROIN TO ME ! ! ! ~~~~ ILM POST-1945 blah blah

neutral sequence for flute (blank), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 04:18 (thirteen years ago)

I feel mildly guilty about posting this one, but

Feminist Theory & "Women's Issues" Discussion Thread: All Gender Identities Are Encouraged To Participate

i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

to be clear, it's just the "All Gender Identities Are Encouraged To Participate" part, as though, IDK, the transsexuals of ILX might otherwise be unsure whether the thread was a safe space for them

i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

seems like a harmless and possibly helpful disclaimer to me, esp since otherwise a feminism thread would pretty quickly turn into a lot of "why are so many dudes posting in here, should they?" etc

sarahell, Monday, 28 January 2013 04:23 (twelve years ago)

I've always read it like that - like it's called "anticipate" less because anyone will anticipate anything, and more because this is ILX shorthand for "thread about a specific film."

Doctor Casino, Monday, 28 January 2013 04:28 (twelve years ago)

those seem like two different things to me, even if the anticipation is really a false enthusiasm

A classic 'lost in the mists of time' thing to an extent, but I've always assumed it was something from the books of MOLESWORTH, which has contributed much in the way of GRATE slang to ILX. Please refer to the Sunday July 16 2000 entry here from the inestimable I Hate Music where a Molesworth parody is used against the Cocteau Twins in such a manner as to suggest the breeding grounds for FITES!

― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 01:00 (12 years ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

No this didn't start from Molesworth (he may haf used it but I can't recall it off the top of my head... maybe, but it's not the Molesworth variant that I use at any rate) - it just came into my head when posting "me vs GURLS: FITE" and since then it haf passed into ILx canon, innit.

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 8 June 2015 20:51 (ten years ago)

that's not really a grievance is it? petitioning to have c&ps removed from search results is complaining, that is more of a caveat to an ongoing violation of a known basic rule

The Fields of Karlhenry (nakhchivan), Monday, 8 June 2015 21:04 (ten years ago)

eh, the Scaruffi c&ping and the 77 c&ping are still two separate incidents (even though they stem from similar drunken impulses), and it's good practice to start a new mod request thread for a new incident rather than turning an existing thread with a specific purpose into a 'rolling [user] behaving badly' thread. but I'm not seriously bothered about this, and I guess it was fair game to bump that thread considering that the mods chose not to lock it.

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 8 June 2015 21:19 (ten years ago)

the reason was more to situate it within that pattern of drunk excesses rather than call inordinate attention to something which has got people banned before

The Fields of Karlhenry (nakhchivan), Monday, 8 June 2015 21:28 (ten years ago)

ah, in that case I can see where you're coming from, although I still feel like a generic 'delete 77 content' thread would be better for that purpose. I just didn't want my thread to turn into a wins pile-on, but that was clearly the opposite of your intention.

I'd never heard it before, but it seems to predate Twitter.

“Goat roper/rope” and “goat rodeo,” as well as several other variants (“goat dance,” “goat screw”), are apparently all euphemistic forms of the original slang phrase, which involves the venerable “f word” and is close to another variant, “goat raper.”
