gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

(haha i think i stole the qwuake thing from a review of a mille plateaux record.)

benito mussolinington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

strongo why do you think an album chock-full of overdubs in any way represents a "live" sound?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

wait do you mean the lightning bolt thing?

benito mussolinington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

(the ass photo is kind of unnerving me.)

benito mussolinington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah! I mean I'm not Metallica defender but clearly the Black Album is the furthest thing away from an attempt at capturing them live!

I thought you were implying he is an ass.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i was told by my editor that i needed a "comparison". i think i had just watched the metallica "rockumentary", wherein they explained their goal was to have bob rock achieve a sound closer to their live show. so i emailed her back "metallica". clearly the moral is to not listen to a coked up james hetfield.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

kari wuhrer is your friend?

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

am i pulling a suzy? we were friends in high school. she went out with my brother. she was in anaconda with j-lo. she would bring home good blow from her job at the palladium in the 80's. she worked in the mike todd room. i have never met mike todd.

i didn't know where the store is, or its name. we went into a couple junk shops, and that one bookstore that sells beer, tho (weirdly enough, this skinhead chick who dropped out my freshman year was working there).

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 13 October 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

it's right on the main drag there in hudson where all the antique stores are. it's called john doe. it is across the street from the theatre that the guy from human sexual response runs.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 13 October 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

jess,

here's some quality sf altweekly action for you to enjoy, please share your thoughts/feelings:

"When UK garage first broke in Europe, around 2000, its glossy, champagne-fueled sound didn't resonate with Bay Area club-goers."

and

""

I "interviewed" Wolf Eyes about a year earlier than this cat*'s first experience and thought they were mellow, we talked about great music, and were all pretty down to earth (which is almost everyone I trust's opinion as well).

*does this guy lurk on the noise board? that brian wilson thing is too close to my post here. if so: what's up justin, at least the SFBG has that courtesy of shout-outs/ref-cites.

gygax! (gygax!), Saturday, 15 October 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

ah ok we looked in the window. dang.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 15 October 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

the dubstep piece at least seems to have its facts together. it's boring as fuck at home, but the one time i heard it in a club there were some cool things about it, not least of which being, like, how do you fucking dance to it. (the general consensus seemed to be some kind of weird skank, piston-thrust thing.)

the wolf eyes piece is just dumb. (and i know from dumb wolf eyes pieces.) if you want actual, thoughtful response, you never, ever a. interview a band while drunk, b. try to interview a band when they're in from out of town and trying to have a good time with their friends, and/or c. try to interview someone while they're on tour without setting a firm date beforehand. (which is driving me nuts this week.)

i have heard from multiple people that wolf eyes are lovely chaps, which just makes me feel worse.

i have to go listen to a bunch of shitty metal bands now.

strng hlkngtn: what does it mean? (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Dubstep is okay in small doses. Plasticman is fairly consistent. I hope he gets some vocalists if he does an album. The Kode9 stuff is good too. Can't really make it through any of the Dubstep Allstars comps. I'm not going to the Plasticman/Vex'd thing tonight, and last I heard from Alex he isn't bothering either.

Lion-O (nordicskilla), Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

that guys story (which seems to boil down to "wolf eyes were having a party and i wasn't invited") and the way he treats it in that article is just odd.

from here:

The rest of the album oozed essential oils and upscale r&b respectability. "Girl" was a stroll over a 9th Wonder-produced Dramatics sample through bros-before-hoes territory as latte frothy as its "Sex & the City" video.
