Srsly my two roommmates who I have lived with for years asked me to move out.
Because I have been unhappy. And I've been unhappy because they are having guests over all goddamn summer long, and I'm sorry if that's made my grouchy, along with getting dumped & finding out my grandfather's dying, but you're going to kick me out over it? Without ever mentioning the problems to me beforehand? That is so fucked.

SO, anyone in NYC who knows of anything, let me know.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:27 (sixteen years ago)

aww man dude I'm sorry.

the evil genius of Zaiger Genetics (J0hn D.), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:28 (sixteen years ago)

so sorry, ian. that is straight bullshit. i will definitely let you know if i hear of anything.
are you on the lease? can they actually kick you out???

tehresa, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:29 (sixteen years ago)

oh dude that totally sucks and your roommates are fucking jerks

Do they leave passive aggressive notes?

shithouse. nice premeditation w/the new lease too :(

wilter, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:35 (sixteen years ago)

yeah that is bullshit. like, instead of plotting all this behind your back, why not be mature and have a conversation about it? jeeeeze.

estela, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:37 (sixteen years ago)

you should go to the landlord, dogg

omar little, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

they do NOT leave passive aggressive notes.

So fucked up. I'd expect some kind of e-mail or sit-down talk about my "unhappiness" or rudeness or hostility or whatever, but before I could even say much abt why I'd been so grouchy lately (out of town guests esp.) they were just all "we want you to leave the apartment."

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

the landlord is a crepe tbh.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:39 (sixteen years ago)

also yeah, aside from the past month or so i haven't had any major roommate issues. i just don't get it.

srsly why i generally prefer to live/work with men. has been highly successful (with one or two exceptions).

it's been ages but the one i met seemed totally normal and not bitchfaced like this at all!

tehresa, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:43 (sixteen years ago)

you should ask them where in the lease that it specifies that you have to be happy

this is just amazingly and unbelievably immature

heave imho (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:49 (sixteen years ago)

I tried to tell explain that if they'd be willing to compromise on some issues that it would be possible for me to be much happier, friendlier and a better person to live with but they had no interest in exploring that idea.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:50 (sixteen years ago)

so unfuckingbelievably pissed. the cost of moving alone is prob more than i can handle, much less the excruciating search for a place that is a) not miserable and b) affordable.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:50 (sixteen years ago)

did you put down any sort of security deposit? i.e. do they owe you money for kicking you out/taking you off the lease?

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:51 (sixteen years ago)

i did pay security when i moved in but that was like 5 yrs ago and i have no doubt that my landlord will try to fuck me out of it.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:52 (sixteen years ago)

No, but if your roommates have taken you off the lease and are evicting you, then they should return your security deposit.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

that's true, yes.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:55 (sixteen years ago)

i would throw around the phrase "explore my legal options" if they refuse to do that

omar little, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:55 (sixteen years ago)

not a bad idea.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

definitely stay until you find something ... don't be in a huge hurry to go. It's actually a major pain in the ass to evict someone if they don't want to go.

call 311 theyll connect you to the housing people - im suspect yr landlord/roommates violated the law by not offering you the option to renew the lease - you might be in a position to negotiate something thatll make yr move to a new place much easier

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i'm kind of freaking out abt it honestly cuz if i do stay, the longer i stay, the more unbearable and uncomfortable it's going to become.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

thanks for the headz cr?m.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

Aw Ian I'm so sorry to hear about this, that blows!

MY NAME IS ERICA AND I AM FUNKY (& eclectic) (ENBB), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

yeah def check that out - i had some minor beef w/my landlord abt lease renewal and was fascinated to find out abt all the wonderful laws on the books out there

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

yeah iirc ny state is pretty friendly toward tenants!

tehresa, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, it's really up to you how much stress you want to deal with w/roommates in this regard. Totally understand if it's too much grief, but they should be paying you something, and that would presumably make having to move less stressful.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

or just negotiate for like 3 months free rent so u can save up some $$ to move

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:04 (sixteen years ago)

definitely ice cr?m's idea about contacting housing people/tenant's law center type place is a good first step.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

i'm just unbelievably pissed & blindsided by this; i thought i was the one with legitimate complaints!

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:06 (sixteen years ago)

it was funny when i talked to them i ended up defending my landlord like oh u know hes actually a pretty nice guy and they were all really would a nice guy try to fuck around w/yr lease like that

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:07 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i don't know wtf happened here. one minute laura is telling me she talked to the landlord and they're not gonna raise the rent, and next thing i know i'm not on the lease and it's already been renewed.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:10 (sixteen years ago)

a bitchfest is what happened here.

estela, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:12 (sixteen years ago)

man what a shitty situation. over here all parties need to sign off on changes to a rental agreement, possibly to avoid situations like this i'd assume! as much as it'll be a pain to move i'd say you'd be better off away from a couple of schemers like that, ian.

"woah man, flügelhorn" (haitch), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:13 (sixteen years ago)

estela know what up.

"woah man, flügelhorn" (haitch), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:13 (sixteen years ago)

This is FUCKED. I have liked all of yr roommates and thought they were your FRIENDS and wouldn't do anything like this. So confusing, and so shitty. I hate to say it, but it makes me wonder if they have someone else lined up. Not that that would be the reason for bringing up yr unhappiness, but maybe it's the reason for them not being willing to discuss further. Definitely pursue some help/legal options here.

How much notice are they giving you? Last time I got two months' notice and managed to be out in 1, which was good. But yeah, the atmosphere was pretty unpleasant for that time.

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:14 (sixteen years ago)

yeah it definitely sounds like they decided they wanted someone else to live with them and are grasping for a bullshit reason to kick you out/not discuss it.

they HAVE to give you notice and your security. if you are no longer on the lease, i'd think the landlord has to pay you your share of the security you paid him/her. either that or the parties now on the lease are responsible for covering it. but either way, someone must pay up.

tehresa, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:18 (sixteen years ago)

as in, you weren't in violation of any terms, etc, so there's no reason they could withhold the security.

tehresa, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:18 (sixteen years ago)

I called 311 and they said they're going to send me a pamphlet? fat lot of good that will do.
sara suggested september 15th as move out date but tbh i'd like to be out sooner.
if i can find a roommate i have a line on a $1500 2br that my friend dave owns.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:18 (sixteen years ago)

i was thinking someone else lined up as well, some squee "it's gonna be great!!!" plotting and a bitchfest to rationalise it.

estela, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:19 (sixteen years ago)

Okay! That's something...surely a roommate is a thing you can find?

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:19 (sixteen years ago)

its worth being understanding of their pov - obvs its difficult living w/anyone and for whatever reason u all werent getting along - on the other hand they totally deserve to be held accountable for their weasely tactics

"ladies im sorry you feel this way and i sure wish youd just come to me and discussed this so we couldve worked it out all civilized like - however now that youve forced my hand..."

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:19 (sixteen years ago)

fyi ian--i hate your roommates

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:20 (sixteen years ago)

"i'm sorry it had to come to this but you've put me in a very difficult situation..."

omar little, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:21 (sixteen years ago)

tbf i have been unhappy and vaguely hostile lately, but that's no excuse for not talking to me abt it esp when i've tried to broach the subject of the unhappiness with my roommates--fwiw here is the e-mail i sent to her yesterday when i was upset abt a guest still being here--

The length of time you have guests stay over, and the frequency with which you have guests stay over, is totally inappropriate and very intrusive.
I asked really nicely before if you could not have guests so frequently, but since then it's been a few solid weeks of guests. A few days ago I had to let Adam #2 into the apartment at midnight because he couldn't manage to unlock the door. When the first Adam visited, there were several days during the week when I had to go to work without showering or brushing my teeth because he was in the bathroom.

Please try to limit guest visits to a night or two in the future, and not more than once or twice a month. Anything beyond that I think is abusing the common space of the house. Thanks.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:21 (sixteen years ago)

A bitchfest seems weird cos I know Ian has been on good terms with them for years. That's what made me think maybe there's someone else. But whatevs. When events force you to make some change happen, sometimes it ends up way better and you were just avoiding doing the work to get there. And by "you", I mean "me".

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:22 (sixteen years ago)

that's a totally reasonable email

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:22 (sixteen years ago)

Esp since you have apparently had all of humanity in your place, enough to start repeating names at least at the beginning of the alphabet. What's next, Brian #2 and Connor #2?

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:23 (sixteen years ago)

This is the most lowdown thing I've heard of in a long time -- good luck, ian.

Beanbag the Gardener (WmC), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:24 (sixteen years ago)

eh ian try calling 311 again to get another operator - maybe call during business hours - when i spoke w/them the guy was v knowledgeable and helpful - or maybe try to find a free law center or something - its really worth it to talk to someone who can walk you through this stuff

and especially since moving is expensive try to figure out what leverage you have and use it to get some free rent or a buyout or whatever - however uncomfortable this is for you it is equally uncomfortable for them so theyll prob be looking to end this situation as soon as possible

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:25 (sixteen years ago)

real sorry to hear this ian

max, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:25 (sixteen years ago)

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:31 (sixteen years ago)

Your roommates sound like jackasses. Sorry you're going through this. I'm not familiar with New York law, but ice cr?m's idea is good -- look into state statutes and local ordinances to assess your leverage.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:31 (sixteen years ago)

i would at least talk to the landlord and ask him/her why he renewed the lease without everyone who was on the lease! that seems really strange. i mean, did they tell him/her that you were moving out and not to worry about it???

scott seward, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:32 (sixteen years ago)

i have no idea what they told him.
what is rent like in greenfield? need an employee? will live in basement.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:33 (sixteen years ago)

i wonder if their new person is on the lease?
i know that in my old apt, i moved in mid-lease, and we just switched out my name/info for the previous tenants when it was time to renew. but my landlords were also idiots.

tehresa, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:33 (sixteen years ago)

rents are cheap! come on up. i will give you your own spot to sell records in.

scott seward, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:34 (sixteen years ago)

according to them only one of them is now on the lease.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:34 (sixteen years ago)

i could prob live off my record collecting for a while...

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:34 (sixteen years ago)

Ian, my sitch was also stressed and bad but once I found an "out", I wasn't bothered by the drama anymore. It was interesting how quickly my viewpoint changed from "FUCK no one likes me, I failed at this, I hate you, now I will panic" to "Hello, there, roomate who doesn't like me! This is your problem and not mine, plus I have something better, so fuck you! Oh, did you want to shower now? Sorry!" I was wishing I could have felt the latter long before, but I got trapped by other people's expectations. But it's all perspective, really. When you feel solidly like you have some options, maybe try to reject their vibe? It's not much but it could make your last month/weeks a lot better.

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:38 (sixteen years ago)

ugh. ideally i will find someone else i know who needs a place to live & i will move into the railroad apartment in ridgewood that my friend owns :\

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:42 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah but if you get them to give you the two weeks of Sept free or something, it could be worth your while to stick it out. I know, I know....

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:44 (sixteen years ago)

is yr place rent stabilized ian?

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

sorry dude

mookieproof, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

sux

mookieproof, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

i do not think we're rent stabilized but honestly i don't know.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 01:53 (sixteen years ago)

dude, that sucks. IIRC NYC laws are skewed heavily in favor of tenants' rights, and if you are living somewhere it's very hard to force you out (as long as you're working the system). try to contact a tenants' rights organization maybe? where are our literal board lawyers when you need them?

I have a vindictive history when it comes to asshole roommates, so maybe I'm not the best one to advise... but I'd drag your feet moving out, especially if it fucks with plans they have for a new person to move in. of course you've got to have a strong stomach for unpleasant situations but revenge is a dish etc.

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 02:04 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i plan to call tenants rights ppl tomorrow. kind of weird tho cuz i'm not really being fucked over by the landlord so much as i am by the roommates. still just astonished this is such an abrupt thing! they had never mentioned anything to me. it was clear things were getting tense, but i was attempting to address that via my e-mail above.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 02:06 (sixteen years ago)

the ny attorney general should have a tenant's rights pamphlet online (probably the same thing they said they'd mail to you, wtf) that would be worth looking at and less confusing than just plain old statutes and regulations, even just to give you a vague sense of direction so you know what to ask people about on the phone.

This would be such a stressful situation to be in. How many nights a month did they have someone over? Really, people don't even have to be sleeping over, because if someone's at your apartment for four hours that's as good a de facto overnight guest for all the space (and possibly resources) they take up.

I would probably start getting intense rushing to the head until I eventually started crying one day if I were in this situation.

bamcquern, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

also, I'm know nothing about these people and I'm sure they heartless bitches, but consider that women can get very nervous about their personal safety living with men who are displeased and vibing at them. Uh, my roommate laura has had guests over at least two of the last three weeks, as well as a week-long guest in june.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

ALSO, i have been out of the apartment for most of the last two weeks. First in Rhode Island where I was visiting my terminally ill grandfather and then I was dogsitting last week and only home briefly, spending most of my nights at my friend's place where the dog was.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

it's pretty weak though. as someone who 'passive aggressive housemate' could describe even generally, whether or not one was talking about what i am like as a housemate, it sucks that you get edged into non-communicative anger because you don't wanna be hassling/putting up with shit all the time -> you slouch around a while -> you get kicked out for being slouchy. it's like the whole 'pick up the gun' thing. that they made it into a putsch is the depressing thing.

Yeah, this is more like they were afraid to discuss/confront Ian's anger head-on because they were aware they would be at fault and felt too guilty to initiate the conversation. And then he went away for a while and they thought, oh hey, if he's NOT HERE we never have to HAVE that conversation! which is a fucking sham of a sop to the conscience.

I know in Texas that it's not legal.. You have to sign an addendum to be taken off the lease. You should check and see about your state laws.

Sunny River, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 03:14 (sixteen years ago)

seriously ian, from somebody who's been in a similar position, gtfo pronto. there's no way to fix this. getting confrontational can make it worse (cops can be called), trying to be palliative means you kiss a lot of ass, feel bad about yourself and probably the same outcome. Just set a reasonable two week goal or something and get out as quickly as you can. it'll save you lots of needless headache. I know its unfair and shitty and it sounds like the worst answer but really, sincerely, I really think you'd be doing best by yourself if you just vacate the premises and the problem.

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 03:19 (sixteen years ago)

getting out asap is def. my top priority. i can be out within the week if i can find someone to move into this place with me.
otoh, yes, it seems very very shady that i was removed from the lease without my knowledge. hopefully talking to a housing lawyer or aid person will make that aspect of the situation clear.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 03:21 (sixteen years ago)

i've been living with this girls for 4-5 years (depending; lived here longer than one of the two.) and considered them friends, despite my frustrations with them. I don't think I ever behaved in an irrational manner in my dealing with them, short of maybe being distant/weird or a bit surly lately.

maybe you're right icecream, but my experience in similar situations is that if it's reached the level where they're trying to kick you out, the only way to do that is to litigate and now you're spending all your free time and emotional energy dealing with it.
i moved into an apartment when I first came to the city, redid it top to bottom, put new flooring in, painted walls and ceiling, bought furniture to fit the room. After three weeks, lease holder bounced me out as untrustworthy. Cops were called, twice. Total disaster. I was in the middle of a severe depression too. And just lost my job. The more distance i got from that crazy situation, the better off I was.
living well is the best revenge and all that.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 03:54 (sixteen years ago)

According to the tenant's rights pamphlet i am reading online, the tenant "is subject to eviction at the end of the lease term." i have not received any notice of eviction, and in fact had been led to believe that we'd agreed to renew the lease with no rent increase. does anyone know what my options are here? i know this is probably fighting a losing battle, but I don't want to ignore any possible recourse I may have (at least as far as not having to pay rent for this apartment & i am a leaseholder for, for this month while i try to move out.)

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:16 (sixteen years ago)

well u already dont have to pay rent for the month visavis yr security deposit - but that certainly does sound like you shouldve received some sort of notification

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:19 (sixteen years ago)

i moved in in the midst of the previous lease and iirc paid my security directly to the previous tenant--which means i probably don't have that option legally?

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:22 (sixteen years ago)

sounds like you bought the deposit from the last tenant right - so the landlord is still holding a security deposit one third of which you own - i think in general its best to think abt things like the security deposit and the legalities as bargaining chips - this is never going to make it to court - what you want is to be bought out - and of course the biggest leverage you have is that youre still in the apartment - and its v difficult if not impossible based on how they dealt w/the lease for them to make you leave

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:25 (sixteen years ago)

i appreciate your input, dude. tbf i'm confused because in the tenants right pamphlet it states that the tenant has the right to renew if the apartment is rent stabilized (assuming mine is but honestly not sure.) however, i was led to believe by my room mates that we were going to renew, so it's not as though the landlord didn't, in fact, offer the renewal.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:28 (sixteen years ago)

so you stay there - you stop paying rent - you make them aware of the legal situation (obv the particularities of this make a big diff but it sounds like yr in a pretty good situation legal wise) - and you demand three months rent to leave - you end up negotiating down to 2 months or whatever and you move

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:28 (sixteen years ago)

i mean thats what id do - pending of course finding out exactly what my legal rights are

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:35 (sixteen years ago)

-speak to tenants rights people.
-speak to the landlord
-write e-mail telling my roommates how disappointed and hurt i am by their decision to fuck me over.
-respond to more craigslist ads looking for roomies

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 04:40 (sixteen years ago)

from a legal standpoint yr roommates are irrelevant in this situation - you had a contract with the landlord. your rights as a tenant and his obligations to you are governed by the law. he could be in deep shit for renting out an apartment you are inhabiting without notifying you.

yr to-do list is 100% in the right order.

Le présent se dégrade, d'abord en histoire, puis en (Michael White), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 14:33 (sixteen years ago)

Ian, I'm pretty sure yr building is rent-stab because it's got over a certain number of units (I think the minimum is 6 or something) and hasn't been substantially renovated and doesn't qualify as luxury housing. You should be good to go, on that point.

Guys I am so fucking upset by this.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

i'm sure, it's upsetting just to read about!

housing issues are incredibly stressful when you're fully in control of the situation. (moving, only less stressful than getting a divorce, is that right?) having something like this dropped on you when you are already feeling low is particularly cruel. the way you describe it, your roomates are kicking you out of your own home because you weren't sunshiney enough about all the people they had crashing there. that's morally gross and probably illegal as well.

i don't know what to tell you other than ilx is pulling for you

goole, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 17:05 (sixteen years ago)

i'm going to contact the landlord today.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

ian, i'm not clear on why, besides financial issues with moving, you would want to pursue the option of staying there

that would be uncomfortable for everyone, would it not

cutty, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 17:11 (sixteen years ago)

no no no i'm not trying to pursue living there, i'm trying to figure out if i'm entitled to anything considering i was never given the option to renew the lease and my name was taken off the renewal with neither my knowledge or consent.

ian, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

just a shot in the dark, but I doubt there's gonna be monetary compensation there; most likely just the option to be put on the lease.

u r a horsing lawyer tho

max, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

were the other two hoes individuals on the original lease, that you were on? if not, it's pretty clear that they are new residents, and you are no longer one i.e. it's just like you moved out and someone else moved in i.e. you are entitled to your security deposit

but that's more a kneejerk ethical reaction, not a legal one. your meeting w/ experts is the right course of action

xxps

if that month's free rent is equal to or more than the security deposit, then that sounds like a fair deal.

The place I looked at last night was decent. The room is SMALL and does not have a window, but it is v cheap and a 15 minute walk from work. Also, there's a back yard, the kitchen seems decent, and it is cat friendly. i've started moving small things out of my apartment, planning to pack all the books & records tomorrow. not sure what to do with them. thinking about putting everything in the basement at work and/or my friend b0nnie's basement. but then i'd have to move stuff twice, if i do move into this place or wherever i move. if i move into this place tho i'll probably have to leave a lot of books/comics/etc in storage. the place has a basement which i can use, in addition to the two basements listed above.

i haven't felt this shitty in a long time :\

ian, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 21:34 (sixteen years ago)

Ian, I know a heavy metal guy with a van who you can hire. He doesn't do any lifting, but he watches the van while you load in. If you wanted to use him to move records to Bonnie's house, that would be fast and pretty easy.

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

Prob you could get him to to drive you from your house to B's for like $30. If you want help carrying boxes on Saturday day, I am avail.

i think my all time bro mike hunchback is going to help me move shit out sunday w/ his van. tomorrow i pack all books & records, sunday move some things to bonnie's and some to my work.

i'm meeting the roommates at the potential new place tonight, so it's possible i could begin moving things directly into the basement there before i start living there, but i don't know.

omar little, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:04 (sixteen years ago)

Ian hope this works out okay. Back in June my flatmates decided to move out, completely out of nowhere, even tho we'd resigned the lease in March. They said they wanted to live somewhere cheaper but you still kind of think "was it something I did." I can totally relate to feeling like you're the one with grievances and people just bailing before ever sitting down to talk about stuff, not even opening things up to the possibility that they might be annoying you.

For me the landlord basically said he wasn't giving them their deposit unless the moved during a break in the lease and so they had to stay until September. Anyway it looked for a few days last week like landlord was going to sell the place as a result of them going, which would have forced me to leave. Luckily he changed his mind.

It sucks to have to think about upheaval and stuff, hope it goes smoothly.

I for one welcome this new Nazi ILX (Local Garda), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

Recommend you put your stuff on a pallet or on top of some waterproof Tupperware storage boxes at B's. That place has been known to occasionally flood.

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:11 (sixteen years ago)

yeah she mentioned that Laurel--we have plenty of pallets at work. Thanks for the heads up tho.

I feel so bad for my kitty. I moved him into Keegan's today and he just follows me around like a lost little man. And I'll have to move him again, at least twice. To somewhere for next week, and then (fingers crossed) on the fifteenth into new apt. I think next week my co-worker/friend Erin is gonna take him, and that's only a few blocks from here, but poor guy! I will miss him so much for that week while I am sleeping at the store (cat can't live at the store cuz the store cat is a violent motherfucker.)

BTW, meeting with new roommates postponed til tomorrow but talking to my friend who's hooking me up it looks like if they are cool with me I might be able to start moving stuff into their basement as soon as this weekend, which would be a huge help.

I have found a room, and it is in Williamsburg, and hopefully the fourth roommate does not have a dog or else my cat might be traumatized but, you know how things are.

Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 12 August 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)

i am more or less moved in, and mostly unpacked.
we are having a party next saturday--hello new roommates, goodbye old roommates.
ilx is invited.
would a mod change the title of this thread to reflect this change?

ian, Sunday, 16 August 2009 01:27 (sixteen years ago)

btw if anyone can explain to me why i have so many records and what i need them for that would be great kthx.

ian, Sunday, 16 August 2009 01:27 (sixteen years ago)

i'm blown away that you were able to get kicked out and find a new place in the span of a week.

BIG HOOS's wacky crack variety hour (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Sunday, 16 August 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)

give ilx your old address and everyone can order a pizza to be delivered there

omar little, Sunday, 16 August 2009 01:38 (sixteen years ago)

right place/right time, hoos-- my co-workers gf just moved out of this room, and another of the roommates is a friend of some local ILXors. if this fell through it would have been WAY harder. moving in NYC is this complicated process involving credit checks, references, interviews & bank statements.

ian, Sunday, 16 August 2009 02:04 (sixteen years ago)

btw i am chillin in my new back yard right now with some beer & weed & i can get the wifi signal from the house--sick.

ian, Sunday, 16 August 2009 02:24 (sixteen years ago)

Yay, ian! How is your kitty doing?

tokyo rosemary, Sunday, 16 August 2009 02:28 (sixteen years ago)

oh MAN.... he was hiding this morning when i got up and i couldn't find him for approx two hours; i was freaking out. walking around the block, yelling his name in the back yard, shaking a bowl of food etc. so i come back in from the backyard like 10 minutes before i have to go to work, and he is just sitting on my bed like "what up dude?" i think he must have found a really good basement hiding place. the dog scares him & makes him agitated, but when i am home he usually hangs with me in my room.

ice cr?m, Monday, 17 August 2009 16:08 (sixteen years ago)

ari and i are gonna come i think--maybe i will make some more seven layer bars

max, Monday, 17 August 2009 16:09 (sixteen years ago)

miss u sanskrit.

hope you guys come on over, it should be fun. r0ss warned me that when our other roommate throws a party it tends to involve a lot of people who don't know anyone living here, and that he (r0ss) generally hangs out for a few hours then flees til 2 or 3 am. so, it could go either way. i'm generally not a fan of huge house parties at my own home, but since this is a good occasion imo and it would be nice to see everyone, i am totally thinking it will rule.

ian, Monday, 17 August 2009 17:25 (sixteen years ago)

i'll have a jug of cheap whisky. and maybe some cheeze doodles.

ian, Monday, 17 August 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

eh if it gets bad the fun people can peace out to a bar

max, Monday, 17 August 2009 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

I've been to a few parties there, Ian. If it's not just us usually we camp out somewhere and chainsmoke. It all works!

i went to the bbq place near my apartment last night.
the guy slicing the meat is a regular customer/nice guy I know from around.
Dude hooks me up--doubles my pulled pork order & throws in a half-rack of ribs. what a bro.

ian, Friday, 21 August 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

also pretty sure he gave me more brisket than i was charged for

ian, Friday, 21 August 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know where to get old rasputin in my new neighborhood. i had the victory imperial stout a few nights back & it was aight but no old ras. also finally found an ny deli that stocks sam smith's taddy porter on the regular--really like that one.
