the idea of bruises adding up to something

for rocks to skim

a tendency towards... motion pictures

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 00:48 (fifteen years ago)

ian, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 00:56 (fifteen years ago)

ian, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 04:33 (fifteen years ago)

sides 4 & 6 of atalanta on one side & 'private parts (the record)' on the other = most played ashley cassette

yes lovely sells it for top dollar. or drop me a line next time you're in SF.

I think my christmas present to myself is going to be that new 700 page book of lectures / scores. It's really not ok how much they're asking for it, but it's only money

Just saw that book... yikes it's expensive, but it's only gonna be more expensive once it's totally unavailable and gone, i guess? maybe if i cut pack my lunch for a week i can justify it.

Finally, I have come to think of frogs as emblematic of that relationship -- that I barely understand -- between the mysteries of the transfer of life from one generation to the next and our irrevocable, necessary commitment to the use of nuclear energy. This association of images is ambiguous for me; I do not know how it started, nor whether I should trust it. I suspect that, like other preconceptions about biological "facts," it defies explanation and can be stated only as an admitted bias for whatever facts there are to be discovered.

she makes a double life
she makes a perfect system every day

she stands there in the doorway of her mothers house
looking at the grass and sky and at where they meet
never once thinking thoughts like
it's so like a line
or, the difference is so powerful
or, which way shall I take to leave
My mind turns to my breath, one.
My mind watches my breath, two.
My mind turns and watches my breath, three.
My mind turns and faces my breath, four.
My mind faces my breath, five.
My mind studies my breath, six
My mind sees every aspect of the beauty of my breath, seven.
My mind watches my breath soothing itself, eight.
My mind sees every part of my breath, nine.
My breath is not indifferent to itself, ten.

sarahel, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 23:49 (fourteen years ago)

ARGH I have a gig that night

that's a great one to present at Mills because it's all refracted anecdotes about living in Oakland while teaching at Mills in the late 70's

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

i have a gig that night too - but i'm playing late enough i can do both.

yes
(i'm writing, and what i usually do when writing is put songs/albums/playlists on repeat, and so the music comes in and out of consciousness but at the same time creates this steady non-disruptive rhythm/tone)

are you gonna play hooky from work to go to the Weds. thing?

sarahel, Thursday, 24 March 2011 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

I'm guest lecturing Zeena's class on tuesday, so two days of hooky (& three consecutive days of Mills) is probably pushing it. Maybe, though.

he sat and thought about obedience
he had resolved that, of the two kinds,
the kind that takes every message of order, rule, law as error
that everybody who passes along these messages
that loathes the buildings
that contradicts the inner voice
that resists, in short, was his
and the other kind...
how could it be?

having seen them play 'The Backyard' for about 9 years now, including once sitting right next to Ashley, it's been amazing to see Martin begin by interpreting very much in his own voice (with his own occasionally more snarky tone bringing an edge to the more ironic lines) and very gradually move closer and closer and closer to purely inhabiting Ashley's original persona.
