Despite some bad press, I couldn't resist so I picked this up.
Have yet to experience a bug after the first hour, fwiw.

I know some people had noted that all the advance gameplay released/leaked was from the computer version, which conspicuously was the only version the company provided to reviewers, iirc.

i think word's gotten around pretty well by now but there was a sequence in the game that was giving people seizures so be careful out there if you're epileptic
― ciderpress, Thursday, 10 December 2020 14:22 (four years ago)
I hear it's not much of an RPG, as in: it's even more scripted/cinematic/railroaded than the usual AAA fare. I'm still going to play it, though – just not now. When the GOTY edition with all the DLCs goes on sale in December 2022, that'll be my cue. Hopefully I'll also have a better rig by then.
― pomenitul, Thursday, 10 December 2020 14:25 (four years ago)
yeah most of the impressions i've heard are that it really doesnt have much shared dna with witcher at all and that it's more like a bigger fancier version of the later deus ex games. plus some GTA in the open world design

I will not be playing this:
1. I find Witcher 3 wildly overpraised for its rather rudimentary writing (I'll grant that its dialogue has personality).2. It's a first-person game, and as someone who's sensitive to motion sickness, seeing the game's driving instantly made me dizzy.
― Stone Cold Steve Ostentatious (Leee), Thursday, 10 December 2020 18:12 (four years ago)
driving on pc kinda sucks, i wonder if it would be better on console. although CDPR primarily develops for PC so i dunno
― global tetrahedron, Thursday, 10 December 2020 18:13 (four years ago)
For my money, there's maybe a couple of CRPGs (Planescape: Torment, Disco Elysium) that top TW3 in the writing department (well, as far as the side quests are concerned – its main quest was middling at best), so which ones did you have in mind, Leee?
― pomenitul, Thursday, 10 December 2020 18:19 (four years ago)
eh, footage I've seen is third person driving and first person walking/fighting. You can't do the latter in a third person view?Thinking to try this, it's the first time I've had the hardware to run the hot new thing. And the motif is cool. I'm generally witch averse.Multiplayer apparently isn't coming til 2022 or even later. Lots of time to get decent at it!

so which ones did you have in mind, Leee?
Not any RPGs I can think of, tbh (though if we broaden to narrative-driven games, I'd say anything from Naughty Dog would be an obvious improvement). I mean, I'm probably cherry-picking, but there was one Skellige sidequest that just made me give up on the game entirely: Geralt helping the daughter of the thane (or whatever his title) exorcise a haunted place that involved cooking a baby but no not really.
― Stone Cold Steve Ostentatious (Leee), Thursday, 10 December 2020 19:39 (four years ago)
Fair enough! Btw that one didn't especially bother me. I get the sense that very few players actually went through with Cerys's plan, which is so obviously batshit that it's almost an Easter egg. Anyhow, I think Hearts of Stone is the best-written yarn in the whole series..

Having never bought a big AAA PC title digitally... it makes no difference where I buy it, right? I guess the developer has some tie with gog.com, and the game's subreddit is yelling at people to buy it there. gog.com is prominently advertising "100% of your money goes to" the developer as if they are starving artists. No doubt it's pretty wild at that studio right now but it's weird to see the Bandcamp-style promo for such a huge release.
I use Steam in-home streaming sometimes, but I can just add it in to Steam and it'll be the same as if I bought it there, right? Don't care about Steam achievements and all that.
― maf you one two (maffew12), Thursday, 10 December 2020 23:29 (four years ago)
GOG is DRM-free, which means you don't need their launcher to run the game.
― pomenitul, Thursday, 10 December 2020 23:33 (four years ago)
it's weird to see the Bandcamp-style promo for such a huge release
not only that, they made public the fact that developers get 10% of revenue ... for 2020 sales only. buy the game now or the dev gets it!

i buy everything on gog cuz no drm and you don’t have to load a frontend to play it, not that they don’t really want you to load their frontend these days.
i literally forgot i preordered this. don’t know when i did it. it almost-runs. definitely a deus ex / gta hybrid, and i mean if you’d told me it was that i probably would have bought it, so can’t complain, altho haven’t played enough to judge it yet. the driving is indeed bad, probably because gta is designed for sticks and deus ex is designed for m+k.
i don’t think choice+consequence is what makes something an rpg but obv that’s a pedantic rabbit hole; it’s as good as anything else.

There's loads of glitch effects by design so who's to say really.First 45 minutes went fine. I can see why it's first person as there's cutscene sequences and other elements that utilize that (I'm a "street kid" and a cop knocked me out) and they're going for this kind of immersion or whatever.. but hopefully there'll be third person for multiplayer?
― maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 11 December 2020 12:09 (four years ago)
Friend got it on PS4 Pro and said it seemed mostly fine out of the gate. Quickly turned to shit apparently as it opened up.
Was watching footage of the X-Box equivalent of the Pro and it was running around 20 fps and lower. Don't think I've seen a modern game look/run that poorly on a console.
Def a next-gen/beefy pc purchase only, and even then it seems like it's months away from being reliably playable. Hard to say if the core game is any good or not in the first place.

It's definitely playable. Flatmate has been playing it and his review is: "It's fine". It runs well on his PC and I've watched a few continuous Twitch streams and it looks good there too. I'd echo GTA comparisons and it also reminds me of like LA Noire or Heavy Rain a bit with all the criminal secrecy and unexpected interruptions (but my reference points are limited). i'm gonna show my age and bafflement here, but i remember the Cpunk 2020 tabletop, and it was terrible! like it seemed even to us teenagers as a really tired retread of cyberpunk stuff in the mid-90s. and the system was really dated too.
and i gather that Keanu is playing the rock star character the writers came up with as cultural color. some of his "lyrics" are preserved on the internet, funny enough

I'm about 2 hours in and enjoying it! Gameplay wise it's totally Deus Ex + GTA but it doesn't look like its advanced the genre or anything, it just seems a good example of a AAA game. They do the ray tracing of having lots of shiny surfaces and fog, but they do look REALLY fancy. THe hype is too high but I'm enjoying it for what it is.
On my OK-but-not-great PC (6600k/2060) it runs kinda bad? I think the CPU is the bottleneck but on medium at 1080p with RT and DLSS I can just about make 30fps. I've had one mission glitch out and I had to load an earlier save to get through, and there's the odd hilarious glitch of people walking through walls or cars appearing from below the tarmac or whatever. Definitely better shape than when Skyrim dropped and I played the hell out of that so maybe being old has just got me used to harsher times and kids today don't know how good they've got it, they've never had to configure AUTOEXEC.BAT to get the sound card working grumble grumble.

we played a lot of r talsorian cyberpunk 2020 and shadowrun as teenagers, i still have first editions of each in my roleplaying game bookcase. you are otm, both are super campy and full of dumb slang and silly attempts to be edgy. we totally always played both for yuks, but i think we played a lot more cyberpunk (judging from the condition of the book) probably because it was more campy than shadowrun.
the system wasn't that bad especially compared to shadowrun's dice pools which made absolutely no sense. it was so quick and dirty and easy to understand, i mean you can sum in the entire system pretty much in a parenthetical (d10 + stat + skill vs difficulty level of 5/10/15/20/25/30)

Cyberpunk 2020 was fine when it came out in 1988. By the mid-90s yeah, it would be dated both mechanically and in it's cheesy aesthetic. But it captured the vibe of the pulpy cyberpunk stuff like Hardwired really well.

the driving is ridiculous, in a good way for me. Like sometimes I'll turn on GTA for 15 minutes just to cruise around and die. So yknow often I'll stop solid many times in collisions. In this game you can basically hit a car at speed and go under its wheels. And then I found another car that just went right through all the other cars. Yeah pretty buggy.

so is it worth getting a refund on the base PS4 version, or better to just wait out for updates and patches? i just wonder if the game mechanics themselves will be improved, or if all they're going to do is to prevent it crashing and glitching? so far, the whole thing feels really unfinished
― Specific Ocean Blue (dog latin), Monday, 14 December 2020 12:43 (four years ago)
I have a feeling the last gen releases aren’t going to get much better, performance wise. But I believe those with a PS4 version can upgrade it for free to the PS5 version whenever that’s officially released. If that matters to you.Seems like there’s plenty to bitch about unrelated to bugs or performance issues. Like the car stuff is apparently pretty crappy. And car traffic has basically non-existent AI. Like you can shoot at people’s cars and they don’t really react. And they look like they’re tethered together like train cars going along a track. They also awkwardly pivot along a center axis. Cops apparently just “warp in” when you commit a crime. Pedestrian AI appears comically rough too. For a game that’s all about immersion, there’s a lot breaking it.
― circa1916, Monday, 14 December 2020 14:03 (four years ago)
yeah... i mean, i can forgive bugs and glitches so long as they're not game-breaking and they get fixed with updates... but from the very beginning (and bear in mind i've played it all of 90 minutes) there's already a feeling that something's off.
the UI is fiddly. tiny boxes vs an over-sensitive cursor means i have trouble clicking on the thing i want it to. yet at other times it doesn't seem to respond to what i press until i hit the button for the third time. i also experienced some drift in the menu sections which i don't on other games. as well as this, there's a fuzzy, slightly flashy quality to the menu borders that gives me a headache whenever i try to read any of the netrunner emails.
NPCs don't seem to respond in any sort of realistic way. in Witcher 3, people jump out the way, or spit, curse, make remarks etc. here, you can walk right up to someone and breathe in their face and they'll continue idling away in their animation loop, dead eyed and doing nothing. you have to be exactly the right distance away to initiate a "talk" option, and it doesn't always seem to work.
the short amount of time i was in a car was horrible. a ridiculous amount of acceleration but handles really strangely and unlike anything i've played in other games.
really, it's as though the fundamental details haven't been drilled down on at all. there's certainly a plan of a game here, but it's entirely surface-level and feels like an undeveloped industry demo. i'm not expecting better graphics (they could be less headache inducing, mind), but just a similar level of detail to Witcher or GTA would be great.

It is absolutely 100% a proof of the power of built-up goodwill that this apology for intentionally hiding the state of a game on 25% of launch platforms & likely crunching another two months for good boy tokens is going over so well with folks. As my graphics card has passed into obsolescence (and try buying a GPU at any discount in 2020), I've been watching most of the plot through twitch streams. On the high-end PCs of streamers, there haven't been game-breaking bugs, and on sorted systems, only the occasional graphics bug. Clearly C77 was developed on, and for, PCs first.
My sense is that I love visiting the urban design of C77, but the main plot is on tracks and I don't care for the player's character (or Keanu's) at all. Hopefully, by the time I buy this on discount there will be a DLC that provides an entirely new protagonist.

i'm enjoying this tbh. possibly the best deus ex since deus ex (title previously held by dishonored), tho you prob have Too Many Powers. jury's still out on the decision to make it a gta at the same time: on the one hand you have the usual vast blandness settling in; on the other the star of the game is obviously the city itself (a metaphor for whatever) and a dx/witcher1-2 hubs+dungeons structure would have limited its character. (this is the structure of vampire the masquerade bloodlines, a game with a lot to do with this one-- including the way it's on rails but coy about it-- but whose los angeles is just nothing compared to what's brought off here. the ~verticality~ alone.) can't rly speak to the character development / stat system yet; suspect i'll become a big mushy superhero before long, oh well.
the cover system (just, like... crouch behind things... what a concept) warms my 90s-shooter heart. combat in general is pretty damn fun imo for something that's ultimately a janky borderlands.
story seems like nothing special but a serviceable hanger for the environment. i haven't played the tabletop game but posts upthread are otm that its universe is full of 80s cliches-- at the same time the video game's vision of hyperhypercapitalism obviously has a lot of more recent stuff feeding into it ("gotta respect the office!" the deb of night update on the loading screen keeps saying sarcastically, but presumably impotently, about the president) and i def prefer it to grand theft auto's (it uses puerility better) as well as to nu-deus-ex's (people in the street talk about something besides goddam augmentations) as grotesque funhouse mirrors go, tho of course you wouldn't be wrong if you said this particular funhouse mirror became nothing but loving the cage a long time ago.
there doesn't seem to be much meaningful c+c in the story-- just flavor dialogue options-- tho the dialogue is just well-written enough in its forced choices to avoid that fallout 4 feeling of being worked on by an incompetent magician, or having a nightmare. playing a FEMALE-VOICED PERSON and it's nice to play a game like this without having to listen to a geralt/jensen/batman/whoever rasp.
the worst bugs i've experienced have all been text pop-ups refusing to go away. well and that i suspect you can't toggle standing/crouching while reloading. i had to turn all the settings to low, v shameful, but it runs fine; it looks like fallout 3, except, yknow, populated, and you can walk thru doors.
i got better at driving but it's probably a problem that it's not more fun.

i'm probably never going to play this game, at least not for the next 10 years, but i've been dropping in twitch streams and there's something about it that i just find deeply unsettling. not in an intentional way, the game world just sort of repulses me and makes me want to stop watching. i think it's maybe two things:
1. i think i just don't like full environment raytracing. it might be getting to a point where the entire game world is entering the uncanny valley. and it all looks very wet. the last generation of graphical achievement resulted in characters that always looked sweaty, now we get whole environments that always look sweaty. 2. based entirely on randomly jumping into different streams, every square inch of the game world seems to follow a really strict design sense that makes it cyberpunky. it's extremely cyberpunky. there's no variance at all. there's something suffocating about the prospect of exploring a massive game world where every location seems interchangeable. the general raytracey sweatiness might make that worse though. the thing about movies like blade runner is you only spend 2 hours with them, you only see the dozen or so locations the filmmaker wants you to see allowing you to extrapolate the rest of the world. actually wandering around the extrapolated parts seems tiresome
― ✖, Wednesday, 16 December 2020 21:11 (four years ago)

― Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Thursday, 17 December 2020 03:30 (four years ago)
Its based on a 1988 tabletop roleplaying IP.
A year before James Hansen's congressional testimony on climate change. This future, as envisioned 30+ years ago, feels of nostalgia for that 80s. A dark future, to be sure, but still more optimistic about technological advance than might be speculated today. Three decades of tech incrementalism, Moore's law coming to an end, and looming environmental collapse, has displaced the concerns of 80s cyberpunk fiction. I think Paolo Bacigalupi will be regarded as way more spot on than William Gibson ever was.
One of the things I find most boneheaded in the game is that all of the vehicles are internal combustion. I'd like a mod that replaces the engine sounds with electric vehicle whines. And contra the Blade Runner franchise, the real future LA won't be a humid/sweaty place, indeed water will be increasingly scarce. I expect in 2077 corporations will still be evil, but as today they'll manipulate consumers/voters with implicit consent, indeed many/most will seek to live in an alternate reality, in which their personal troubles can be blamed on anti-corporatists. There may be widespread use of updated versions of Google Glass, but very few who aren't blind or deaf will choose implants. The "hard problem" in AI will remain hard: there will still be humans in the loop translating machine learning/data mining to consumer/voter manipulation.
― A Like Supreme (Sanpaku), Thursday, 17 December 2020 18:56 (four years ago)
I don't think CDPR was trying for predictive accuracy, although I'm sure they included some nods to current trends to keep that sense of vertigo. At this point, as many have noted, cyberpunk is just nostalgia for a past in which the future was going to be cool. Why would they include electric cars or anything else from the looming boring dystopia we actually face?
― lukas, Thursday, 17 December 2020 19:13 (four years ago)

If you're not on a legacy console, this is running pretty well. Malcontents will push the glitch narrative, but that's not what I'm seeing on PC. I'm seeing a remarkably fluid game engine, great art, modeling and music, and serviceable but sometimes great writing. The voice actor for female V will be in demand, the male, not so much.
The more serious complaints should be with the issues that will be much harder to iron out: Railbound narratives. Lousy enemy AI. Scaling via bullet sponges. Domino effects in the underlying RPG maths such that some character builds just steamroll through without effort (or replayability). Pervasive environmental misogyny.
My guess, as it gets sorted, and more play on current consoles, this will viewed as technically (over)ambitious, but not captivating.
― A Like Supreme (Sanpaku), Thursday, 24 December 2020 07:44 (four years ago)
Iirc in the Dunkey video says he was playing on a generally solid PC rig, too, and still ran into tons of frame rate issues, really dramatic dips. As he says, if you can get Mario Odyssey running at 60fps on a Switch, and stuff like God of War and Red Dead running stable on a base console, then there is no excuse.

Got the disc version of this as a xmas present. So far, at least with the latest patch, the game has been running decently on my base PS4. There’s some occasional frame rate dropping and stuttering (especially with vehicles) but it’s not at all unplayable.
(Of course that’s not to excuse any issues others are experiencing or the developer’s obvious greed and mismanagement of their launch.)
Gameplay-wise its nothing revolutionary but it’s a solid sandbox action RPG. The story’s pretty cliche but I’m enjoying it. Very GTA.

― Two Meter Peter (Ste), Saturday, 26 December 2020 21:38 (four years ago)
i imagine one of the big factors in not delaying it again was console generation timing - 6 months from now there still isn't going to be a huge PS5/XBSX install base but the 150 million+ PS4s/XB1s in the wild are going to start collecting dust, and people would put off buying it until they can get a next gen console. despite the terrible optimization this game was always supposed to take advantage of that massive late-generation install base. most studios probably would've done the same thing if they were scared of missing that window.
seems to have worked out well enough for their bottom line anyway, in spite of everything

As someone who has had Twitch on in the background for a while: C77 is less buggy than any Bethesda release upon launch, and in some respects more ambitious. Even on base PS4s. There are more serious issues with gameplay balance, which may never get fixed, but objects glitching out occurs about once every few hours, crashes every several dozen.
Yes, in its best visual form it's really demanding of graphics cards. Under 5% of Steam users have a PC with a graphics card that can do it justice (even at 1080p). I'll likely get vaccinated before I find a Ampere card at MSRP or below (Chinese Etherium miners bought most), or AMD updates its drivers to support ray tracing for lighting effects. But for those who were lucky/rich enough to have bleeding edge PCs, its really graphically stunning.

people on PC would harp on the gameplay but gush about the graphics, i just don't get it
― global tetrahedron, Wednesday, 17 February 2021 14:22 (four years ago)
yeah i'd be the opposite. i built a new pc just before this came out (not for this game -- in fact buying it was an impulse decision to "see what my new computer could do") and while i enjoyed the gunplay and the golden path missions and some of the sidequests stuff, the degree to which i needed to turn down my graphics to get even a decent framerate was very annoying and it just didn't look that good. the hud/ui, which at the very least i would have expected to look slick as fuck for a cyberpunk game, barely felt a step above fallout 3? and since the computer i built isn't a multi-thousand-dollar powerhouse or anything, i figured ah its just not that powerful, maybe nothing runs THAT good. then i installed forza horizon 4 and play it on ultra in 1440p (vs cyberpunk which i played on 1080p, didnt have new monitor yet) and consistently get 60-80 frames so uhhh

cyberpunk is massively flawed and probably needed at least another six months before it was released
but it's also one of the most exquisitely-realised, real-feeling game worlds i've ever played in and it has a genuine, tender affection for its main characters, who are all unusually well-written
so y'know it's a land of contrasts i guess

I'm not big on the cyberpunk aesthetic (fantasy 4evah) so I expect I'll enjoy this less than The Witcher series, but I still plan on playing it once it'll be fully patched and I'll have built myself a beefier rig. So… in 2022, probably.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a late 80s idea of the future since that's when the board game RPG first came out. All futurism ends up as retrofuturism eventually. Cyberpunk as a genre just seems to have hit that much earlier because the imagined futures it showed us were set, well, now mostly.

I was so lucky to get a 2060 before the miners went crazy and the scalpers got organised.
This game is very RTX ON with all the puddles and wotnot but I'm not sure I'm into the design of the world at all. Outside of the metal on everyone's face I'm not sure its even a well imagined future city/world. The last Deus Ex game had way better world design, and its not even that good! And even in terms of GRAPHIX, I'm playing RDR2 right now and it looks way better, as well as having significantly better gameplay. I know it's nor fair to compare, but if you're an open world game in 202x you're either gotta beat RDR2/BotW/H:ZD or come with something new, and I just don't think CP77 does on either front.

The modders are having fun with this.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvK_7Ohk16khttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP6cRCYYff4
Another playthrough in (on Stadia, as a new GPU has been on order since December). I don't get the lovely ray-traced reflections/shadows, but also very few bugs (mostly audio looping requiring a reload), none of which are game breakers.
The good is pretty obvious: Night City looks great, especially some neighborhoods like Kabuki and Japantown; fine story & dialogue, good voice acting (Keanu and male V are actually the weakest, here), great character animation (and in 10 languages), good original score and diagetic music, quest design permitting multiple playstyles. And the bad is pretty obvious: poor NPC AI; poor game balance, wherein if one engages with much open world ("side") content, there's no challenge at the highest difficulty; a paucity of meaningful player decisions; and non-immersive presentation of open world content.
Aside from the poor performance on last-gen consoles and most PCs, the pros and cons are pretty similar to those for Witcher III at launch. I think this game will get sorted, and may attract an audience as more migrate to current systems. But CD PR isn't as modder friendly as Bethesda, and the NPCs don't have the rich characterization of a golden age Bioware game. So I'm not sure this will have legs.

― circa1916, Wednesday, 16 February 2022 01:51 (three years ago)
Now that the patch is released (and I have a dozen or so “quality of life" mods installed), I’ve picked this up and am having a blast playing it like an action game with open-world elements rather than the "next gen open world game" the developers pitched it as. I’m playing a "hack and slash" build (i.e., weaken with quickhacks then go in with my katana) and it’s pretty satisfying when the combat music kicks in and I’m leaping out of stealth with sword swinging.
As an open-world game, I don’t find it as satisfying as Red Dead Redemption 2; the world doesn’t feel as “alive”. That’s a vague descriptor, since I don’t really know how to articulate it; it’s more of a feeling, I suppose. For example, the people on the street in Cyberpunk feel more obviously like bots, whereas I was content to stand on a balcony in RDR2 and just watch folks go about their day, or follow a random walking merchant in The Witcher 3 as they wandered the roads. Or I’d stumble into little scripted events when traveling in RDR2 happening in the background. I imagine that’s easier to script in a more sparsely populated setting like RDR2 than Night City, though. (Granted, I’m one of those nerds who appreciates unnecessary, mundane things in RPGs, so wish V could sit at a noodle counter to pass the time before a mission, rather than just “using” from the inventory etc.)
That aside, it looks gorgeous, and I dig driving around at night a lot. I find the side content more engaging than, say, Ghost of Tsushima. There’s valid criticism that it doesn’t feel “new/futuristic” enough in its expression of cyberpunk, but I don’t mind that at all. I read all Gibson et al in high school, and even played a session of the tabletop game back then (around 2001 or so), so it suits me find that it still feels rooted in 80s/90s. I even leaned into it by installing a mod that switches one of the radio station to play stuff like this.

Thanks. Perfect example: I was cruising around yesterday just to explore, and stumbled on this protest at a brain dance studio:
https://i.imgur.com/lp4YocY.png
I walk up to it and… nothing. There’s no dialog from the protest leader or any of the crowd members. Not even crowd noise. They’re just mutely pumping their arms. By contrast, I think of a time I was playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and stumbled across a little event as I passed by a clearing: three KKK members were arguing about how to light a cross, which then fell on them and set them on fire. It was a neat little moment that felt like the world was happening beyond my character.
(I think the worst offender I’ve encountered is L.A. Noire, which I should have loved due to its subject matter, but was completely dead: nothing ever happened in the open world outside of missions, despite how beautifully rendered the city was.)
― blatherskite, Friday, 11 March 2022 17:03 (three years ago)

― mh, Friday, 11 March 2022 18:52 (three years ago)
Finally finished this after beginning in February. Opinion didn’t waver much from the above: a blast to play, but some frustration that I could see a better game peeking through if some of it had been fleshed out a bit more. (For instance, after finishing their side jobs, the romance partners don’t really have much to say or do, beyond some texts.)
For those who finished, what ending did you all get, and were you happy with it?
I originally started going for the ending where V joins the nomads, since it seemed a closest to a happy ending. As it progressed, though, I felt dissatisfied. I always played V as lusting after Night City fame, so it didn’t feel right the my level 45 badass would chuck it all to live a dusty tent, even if Judy joined her. I opted for the secret ending, instead, so I could storm Arasaka with Johnny at my side and become queen of the Afterlife. Plus, the final scene approaching the space casino gave me heavy Neuromancer vibes. A shame about being dumped by Judy but, hey, I bet the DLC will include whoever the player romances, even in passing. And if not, well, we only knew each other a few in-game weeks at most, right?

I feel as bad for this game as one can feel for a AAA mega-hyped beast. The most beautiful open world, so full of work. It’s deserves applause for giving verticality to its world. Up into buildings, down into slums, and thought yeah there are locked doors everywhere, it does not feel like it due to how many inside areas are accessible. It is a game dependent on high-end hardware though. Most of my enjoyment would not exist if I was not playing this on a 1000nits OLED and a 3070 with ray tracing. It has so many flaws, but it deserves credit for the world it created and for how it has pushed video game hardware.

Realistically, probably not until the Christmas holiday - I have ER and TotK to probably keep me going the rest of 2023 for whatever video game time I have left.
But when I bought ER it was either that or Cyberpunk I was choosing from. BG3 wasn't even on my radar. However, I might just cave and get BG3 for Mac OS and Cyberpunk for PS5 and slowly play both simultaneously or something. Or, just maybe, I should give gaming a break for a year and get back into Ableton and write some damn beats again, but that would be crazy talk

Had fun finishing this some months after release. But going back to dink around some time after they first had you reset all your character points, and noping out pretty quick, tells me I'm reeally not an RPG guy. There must be some webpage that could tell me a sensible way to spend the points to be an ok all around character right?
― maf you one two (maffew12), Tuesday, 26 September 2023 01:49 (one year ago)
I'm the same way--though I do like RPGs, I don't dig all all that analyzing of point and perk percentages etc. Whenever I start a game like this, I usually just figure out my concept--sneaky sniper, charmer not a fighter, whatever--and just look up builds from those who've already put in the research. If you search "cyberpunk 2077 builds", you can probably find some. I think I used https://fextralife.com/guides/cyberpunk-2077-guides/, though those may be too specialized for your taste. Of course, in many games it's almost irrelevant once you get a certain level, and you can slaughter everyone with two hits.
― blatherskite, Tuesday, 26 September 2023 16:24 (one year ago)
What I've gathered from the retooled perks is that they've made it a lot more straightforward. The text tells you exactly what each does, what they apply to (weapon types/hacking/movement speed/etc.) and they're divided into tiers that unlock with skill points allocated to a particular aspect. Just browse around a little bit and you're good. I don't think I'll feel the need to look up any guides.
The other thing they seemed to have addressed is how there was a bunch of overlap once your character got to a certain level and you could just be insanely overpowered with little effort
