I'm probably not because my wife won't let me.

I am not not getting a Wii.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 12 May 2006 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

oh what, you can either have a t-shirt that says UH or you can have a game console called WII? I guess that makes sense.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 12 May 2006 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

SHE DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT THE T-SHIRT

i am soooo getting one.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Sunday, 14 May 2006 01:08 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I'll definitely be buying one on launch day, cos both the GC and the DS had amazing launch line-ups and I'm sure this will be the same. And there's bound to be a good steady stream of triple A titles, it's not like nintendo are the kind of company who'll only release one game a month for the first 12 months, then one every two months for the next 12. And I'm sure every nintendo published title will be fantastic, rather than just one in three being properly great and the other two being souped up tech demos! And they'll be nice and long too, there's no way I'll have clocked them all in 2-5 days each. So yeah, there's really no reason to wait a year then buy a console for half the price with a decent selection of cheap games. I'd much rather pay a lot more, and have the console in constant use for the first year, and not collect dust at all, oh no.

(jeez, this saying-the-opposite-of-what-you-mean schtick gets tricky!)

JimD (JimD), Sunday, 14 May 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

This thread, which made perfect sense to me yesterday, has now become a colossal mindfuck.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 14 May 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

To respond to Jim's post, I'll be not getting a Wii because, just like the DS, I've found all the titles that it will be backwards-compatible with to be of no interest to me whatsoever - I've owned every console by every manufacturer for the past 20 years and have played all of the popular games through to completion, so it seems just plain silly to me for them to think that this "Virtual Console" and "GC Compatibility" are a big draw - certainly not to a guy like me who has a practically monastic fascination with this stuff, why would I want to play Fire Emblem and Paper Mario AGAIN?

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Sunday, 14 May 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

(ok, reverse speak off, it's not worth it)

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about the virtual console thing. But the problem there is pricing, I think. It looks like it's going to cost me more to download the old games than it is to pick up 2nd hand copies. Which doesn't really make sense, to me.

I mean, it's not that I don't want a wii. I do, and eventually I'm sure I'll get one, becuase there's no way I'm missing Super Mario Galaxy, apart from anything else. But I paid over-the-odds early adopter prices for both my GC and my DS, and in retrospect I didn't get much out of it. I could have had exactly the same amount of fun for a lot less money, if I'd been a bit less eager. So I'm going to wait, this time round.

JimD (JimD), Sunday, 14 May 2006 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

I think my decision as to whether or not I'm getting the Wii ASAP or waiting will depend on Zelda mostly. I mean, I'm really eager to get ahold of Zelda, so if there's a bundle of Wii+Zelda that when subtracting the price of Zelda means the Wii works out as less than buying it on it's own, I'll probably do it. Of course I might be skint when it comes out and have to wait a few months anyway.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Monday, 15 May 2006 08:32 (nineteen years ago)

Zelda is a launch title = there won't be any bundle pricing.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 15 May 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure yet, but the Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy footage went a long way toward convincing me.

sleep (sleep), Monday, 15 May 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

Merrill Lynch predicts $200 price point which is of course a gigantic leap of faith considering that every Nintendo console ever has debuted at $200. $250! Perish the thought. That $50 is for Twilight Princess.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

I liked the way the microsoft guys at E3 were making a big deal of the fact you could get a 360 and a Wii for the price of a PS3. It had a nice "Let's all team up and fight 'em!" feel to it.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

It's genius in the sense of "if you hadn't thought of this already, let me explain to you how you can have your cake and eat it too as long as you don't mind the possibility of missing out on Killzone 2: Dank Warfare or FFXIII: Gayballs Of The Scheisse Legend. I like the folks who've been posting how MGS4 is going to be a "must-rent."

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

Moore should put his money where his mouth is and try to sell a bundle for $480. Call it the Wii60. Oh I'm a genius.

It seems like between the PS3, the root kit fiasco and the bluray (w/ REMOTE KILL capability if they detect you doing anything they don't like to your player), Sony is beginning to eclipse M$ as the most loathed company.

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

Only because Microsoft isn't doing anything for the forseeable future.

I'd still buy a PS3 before a 360, though Kameo looks sweet.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Kameo was disappointing, I thought. Pretty, but the gameplay is pure 1992. And not in a good way.

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 18 May 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

hahahaha yeah Sony laying down kernel hooks for DRM purposes is BAD, because that's like, HACKING, but MSFT writing the DRM into the OS is OK, because - hey - feature not bug!!! Fuck 'em both. You do have to try pretty hard to get /. to hate you more than Microsoft, though. And then have the Economist write a sidebar calling you a "follower." BLU-RAY is the new PETS.COM!!!

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 18 May 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

To be fair, the amount of evil in 30 megs of Sony rootkit vs. the amount of the evil in 2 gigs of WinXP.

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 18 May 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

the difference, as Jeff Bezos and Eric Schmidt can tell you, is in strapping value-added user experience TO your evil, which is how MSFT gets by mostly okay and Sony totally fails, like a guy who wears wolf shirts at the hygiene competition.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 18 May 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

So, it turns out the company I work for makes the Accelerometer that's going in the Wii contoller.

But we charge over $5 per unit for bulk buys. Couldn't that potentially make replacing/buying extra Wii controllers a pretty expensive affair for us poor consumers? After all, we already pay enough for extra controllers without fancy accelerometers in them...

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Friday, 19 May 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

I take it back, apparently it's Less than $2 for high volume customers. No excuse for expensive controllers then Nintendo!

SLASHDOT:

Nintendo has revealed to Famitsu.com, at the company's recent press conference unveiling its financial results, that Wii would arrive in Japanese stores with a maximum price tag of 25,000 yen. After taking in account various factors, the conversion to other currencies comes down to a launch price of: 225 dollars, 225 euros, and 150 pounds." (obv. I know the games themselves will be backwards compatible but I'm wondering if the remote can act as sort of a pseudo-analog but with more precision or something; it'd make FPS/shooters a lot better. Hopefully Nintendo will give us something more substantial than Mario Quake or whatever.)

Is there still no release date? Don't tell me they're pushing this wondrous goddamned contraption back to next year...

There's no release date yet, but one of the Nintendo dudes said at a recent press conference that they will be making an announcement "in September" in which they are going to confirm the release date and release price. They also confirmed they're gonna be selling the console at a loss, which I think is a first for Nintendo. Dunno if that means the price will be lower than has been hinted at so far...

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Saturday, 19 August 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

The price [of the Wii] has not been decided yet, but I expect it to be ... less than 250 euros

As usual, it hardly seems fair when they've said it will be no more than $250 in the US.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Thursday, 24 August 2006 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Nintendo fanboys have BEEN the apple fanboys of the console world ever since Nintendo went from dominating the industry with great hardware and software to becoming a distant third-place competitor. Playstation = Windows!! Boo!! Nintendo DS = iPod!! Yayy!! etc.

I wonder if they're actually going to stick to releasing different colors of the system or go with the new Apple thing and only make iWhite and iBlack versions.

You'd need something to SPEND them on anyway...

You should be able to spend them on the emulation profile R&D. So someday it might work.
At all.

Microsoft is aweful, and their system will not be very successful.
Sony might just nearly go out of business because of the PS3.

I think the only reason they haven't pulled out, thrown their hands up in defeat and apologised is they have SEVERE financial commitments to IBM, the laser makers who've now most likely offered a discount, and various other suppliers.
EVERY press release now is just Sony trying to keep their stock from plummeting further.
I bet the Execs are selling what they can, stateside at least.

Prices announced seem reasonable:

Console: $250 (for Wii console, Wii remote (w/ strap), nunchuck attachment, Wii AC adaptor, Wii A/V cable, Wii console stand(?), sensor bar, sensor bar stand and two AA batteries.

Classic Controller: $13
Nunchuck: $13

VC Games:
NES: $4.50
SNES: $7
N64: $9

The Euro price, after all, currently equates to nearly £170, whereas the US price comes out at less than £135, which is a game-price of a difference.

But you're right, it does look like being damned good fun, and that's all that matters.

Also, I've never heard of Avatar The Last Airbender, but it looks good! Might even try and see the cartoons...

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Friday, 15 September 2006 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I just got an email from PC world. Can't find any news articles to confirm, but:

"Nintendo have officially announced the launch date and price of the eagerly awaited Wii. The Wii launch has been confirmed as the 8th December 2006, just in time to fill those Christmas stockings. At a price of only £179.99 it's the must have console of the year."

So, £45, or around $85 more expensive for the UK market, GZeus.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Friday, 15 September 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

The avatar cartoons are mediocre.
An american cartoon apeing Japanese animation style that takes place in China....

In regards to the UK price....OK.
I would imagine so. THe UK has Big Tarrifs. That must get annoying. Do you guys have many electronics manufacturers?

The GZeus (The GZeus), Friday, 15 September 2006 16:18 (nineteen years ago)

It doesn't take place in China, there is an entire fictional planet w/ separate nations, North and South poles, etc. FWIW.

region locking has been on virtually every system since the famicom, in one form or another.
The DVD dongle is apparantly cheap.
Why not build it in? To avoid licensing costs.
DVD-enabled devices require a licensing fee to the designers of the format.
That's why GD-ROM existed. SEGA couldn't afford the licensing fee at the time the Dreamcast was made.
So, they save people that want to use a DVD player to watch DVDs with good quality and for people who care more about space and number of hookups, THEY can pay the licensing fee.

Last week's excitement over Sony dropping the price of the PS3 in Japan may prove to be short lived with news coming out of the Tokyo Game Show that some PS3 games may cost nearly $100. Sources indicate that several PS3 games will retail for around $76 to $84, well above the current generation's $40 to $50; the price increase can be chalked up to increased development costs. Sony seems to have a knack for shooting themselves in the foot, no? – Nicholas Deleon

Not to piss on your parade roc, but I think the PS2 will go UP in price after the PS3 comes out.
Why?
Because the PS3 isn't compatible with ALOT of PS/PS2 games, and Sony will likely stop PS2 production to catch up on the PS3s they won't have ready for spring.
Thus making the 'smartest' move by a video game company since Sega dropped all systems but the saturn.
OR they could do the smart thing and not discontinue the PS2 for most of the life of the PS3.

But what IS certain is the PS3's release won't drop PS2 prices much.

The PS3 does not play many PSX titles.
They will likely discontinue the PS2 to make up for lack of PS3 production.
The resulting lack of systems that can play many games means the used prices will go up.

I'm not trying to Hijack anything.
Someone mentioned prices dropping, and I stated why I think that won't happen.
I'm not the one spewing insults and venom.
They stopped making GOOD psOnes, and by PSX I mean PS and PS2. X meaning 'unknown number.'
Look at Wikipedia. They can barely make their already late production run of too few units.
People will likely sell alot of PS2s to buy their PS3. Prices drop for used if the PS2 stays in production.
However, many of the uninformed will find that half their games won't run on the system, and then rush to 'buy them back.' in someway, causing prices to go back to their current state(close to new, really).
This is all basic economics, really. And since when is 100-150 bucks for a (currently) working system with controllers 'mad cheap'?

Whereas the Wii(because I DOO want to stay on topic, but people keep DRAGGING THIS OUT AND INSULTING ME) has full backward compatability with 4 generations and at least 5 branches of gaming.

The Wii will own, the 360 will keep American gamers dazzled, and the PS3 will go down as the system that came too early or the Neo Geo of this generation(if Sony stays solvent).
I can hardly wait for the Wii. It's everything that gamers like me and my friends have been waiting for a system that puts GAMES back in video games.

There is a general public without emulators who haven't played NES Super Mario since Ever, and they will pay money for it! Don't try selling them 10 sports games and a crap tetris. nintendo fools!

I think Sega chose to give the nod(that's really all that's needed from them for a 3rd party title. The tech was licensed from them, but the code is the 3rd party's, I think) to games they knew would be sucessful for one reason or another, and threw in some games like Columns and Ristar(Hey I like puzzle games, but they get old) to see if anyone bites.

Like taking your 4 favorite lures fishing, but a hook and that weird live bait you saw at the shop to see if anything bites.

So, I've just seen the huge Edge feature on Zelda and the screenshots from Twilight Princess - am I the only person who looks it looks like a load of overwrought GOTH GUFF?

In fact, I am yet to decide if there's a killer MUST HAVE game to justify me buying one immediately - both Trauma Centre and Cooking Mama I have on the DS, I'm still happy with Animal Crossing on the GC, bothrd re racing/stealth/war games, Elebits looks cool but not £200 worth of cool. And there's always Pokémon, but am more happy with that on the old handheld anyway. Downloading games of course looks great, but it's depressing they're region specific unless you get round it by buying an American wii, connecting to the US shops and so on (I guess - and I'm not dorky enough to go through all the BOTHER). AND AND there's no dvd playback for the first consoles released...

So I don't think I will be getting one unless I come into some money. Why not send me some!

HA!
I KNEW it!

A big reason the NES was a success it got non-gamers to game(remember it came out after the crash). The controllers were the best at the time, the light gun game(ONE GAME that I know of, but EVERYONE has it) was fun, and if you were rich(by my standards at the time) you even had the mat that you ran in place on and looked like a jackass then lost the olympics.
All while smiling.

The Wiimote shall do two things for non-gamers.
One, get them to think "What's this?" and pick it up.
Two, get them moving around. I find many non-gamers think gaming is lame because it's non-physical(yeah, burning all the sugar in my brain, and getting forearm strain trying to control the guy in Lords of Thunder at Hard level on the second to last level isn't physical...). now they'll (just like that silly mat or DDR) see and feel that games are indeed fun. Some people need physical motion to get their blood and adrenaline pumping.

1. OK seriously I'd almost forgotten about backwards compatibility with the Gamecube in the midst of everything else. I forgot that that is a feature that rules.

2. If Square/Enix/Taito do not sign off on the rights to let Nintendo have their classics for the virtual console, I am going to compare them unfavorably to Paul Bremer.

There is a general public without emulators who haven't played NES Super Mario since Ever, and they will pay money for it! Don't try selling them 10 sports games and a crap tetris. nintendo fools!

They're going to put out a bunch more old games each month, IIRC.

10 a month according to Iwata, I think. 80 for Japan by January. Which means probably about 50 for the rest us by then, maybe more, but at that rate, and with the GC option, I cannot possible imagine that there will be a dearth of content, by any reasonable standard.

I wonder if they'll let the USA have Terranigma this time?

They cost $30 when they came out, and if it's half as fun as it should be, you're till getting $9 worth of fun for free.

I think you mean Kid Chameleon. That's not an Alex Kidd, it's independantly awesome.

And the TG-16 is great if you like FUN games like action and Shmups.

If you want RPGs and fancy deep gameplay, you have to go to Turbo Duo/CD or CDROM2. Even then it's really just awesome action games.

I love Shmups. Thus, I'll be getting a full-on PC-Engine and CD setup when I get to Japan, and loading up on cheap HuCards and CDs.
not to mention Mega CDs...

In any case, I'm excited about these games.

Hmm, it wasn't that great. I mean, obviously the system will thrive or fail based on the games, but Wii Sports was roughly as fun/innovative as Eyetoy Play 2; Exitetruck and the new Monkey Ball are garbage. The Zelda was pretty nice but in the early stages of the game, I haven't seen anything you couldn't see on the PS2 or XBOX, and the control doesn't add a whole lot to the equation. I'm also not that into the art style of this one, but I imagine I'd get over that as the game progresses.

a.b. (alanbanana), Sunday, 12 November 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

There's not greater resolution in regards to pixels, but there's no need for that anyway.
Why market to the massively in debt? They'd just sell the system when the forclosure happens!(if you don't get the joke, ignore t until you do)

There's greater amount of video ram and overall processing power, but it's compatibl with the GC games(obviously).

And the ability to control a FPS without fiddling with three directional controls and 10 buttons isn't a gimmick.
It's brilliant.

I can't wait untl someone makes a Shmup that's controlled with the Wiimote.

aaaaaaaAAAAAAAWWWWWWW DAMNS:

Excite Truck allows you to listen to your personal MP3 music files during the game. By inserting an SD Card into your Wii console, you can choose the music you want to hear.

How to Select Music Tracks
1. Insert your SD Card into the Wii console.

2. Begin or continue a game and enter any race. Before the race begins, press + on the Wii Remote to access the Sound Options screen.

3. Select the "SD Card" option.

4. Any MP3 files available on your SD Card will be displayed (100 songs maximum). To choose a specific song for the race you are about to enter, highlight that song. You can also choose to randomize all songs shown for that course. Highlighting "Default" will play the standard in-game music.

5. Press 1 to return to the Sound Options menu, then 1 again to return to the pre-race screen. You can also use the "Sound" command at any point during the race to change the current song.

The whole design and marketing of the system, particularly the outboard, computer-compatible storage options and the(initial) decision to have it be region-free shows me that Nintendo is the only company to 'get it.'

Gamers want choices, they want to play older games, they want FUN, they don't want to wait forever just so a game came come to the USA watered down and poorly translated, then sold at a higher price to pay for those 'additions.'

def not: classic controller

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

Wii only pushes 480i though, right? So S-video should be satisfactory? Or fuck it, just the one old reliable yellow RCA.

(after wrangling with my new HD satellite receiver and LVD TV last night I have determined that Nintendo is absolutely correct, simple is best and the format wars are completely against the interests of the consumers at this point)

LISTEN U TURBO CROUTON (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

component > s-video > composite

or so the reviews and general theory would imply. and composite is what you get in the box. not s-video.

also thinking about despite not being mad for FPS/shootin' games: far cry

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I went for the package on ebuyer that has Zelda, Red Steel and Far Cry. I really want Zelda and Red Steel, Far Cry looks a'right from what I've looked at since ordering it.

Not fussed about the classic controller, but I seem to recall reading that Sega VC Games will need the classic controller (i.e. not Wiimote compatible), so I guess it might come in handy.

I suspect the Wii controller will get its share of racin' and skatin' titles from third parties soon enough. Developers make more money per title for less capital outlay up front plus they're saying 4 million units in households by 2007. The math says any smart publishing house should be backing AAA titles on Nintendo first for some easy money.

Inasmuch as FPS are concerned, I am looking forward to Metroid Prime: Corruption being the first one I try out since I last got roped into playing goldeneye nearly a decade ago.

Shmup+Wiimote=Orgasm X-Mas.

Oh, and sunnywhatever.
I have no idea what you mean, i can only base what you mean on what you way, thus I asked.
There are many things I'd have said to you, but I do realise that most people that act like that only do it on the internet.
Myself, I try to act like myself no matter what means I'm using to communicate.

In short, don't say things that you wouldn't say to my face.
That was uncalled for, so don't do it.

How precise is the motion detection?

It took about a day to get used to it in ExciteTruck and about two seconds to get used to it (and about four seconds to get frustrated with it) in Wii Sports Boxing. I'm starting to fuck around with Wii Sports Baseball now and it feels REALLY precise. ExciteTruck is getting there too - if you're into games with a Eureaka moment, get this one ASAP because the moment you figure out just how to control the truck is a big one. I haven't even played Zelda yet!

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

We should develop a mental model based on surveys of experts and see how that matches up against laypersons' understanding of the problem, then redesign the methods by which we present information to address those gaps.

To keep this on topic, perhaps we can come up with an ILX UI that can be operated entirely with a simulated fishing rod.

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

I am seriously looking forward to fly-fishing in Wii Animal Crossing, how lame is that

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

The math says any smart publishing house should be backing AAA titles on Nintendo first for some easy money.

we'll see, but seriously don't underestimate how bad publishers feel burned by their experiences w/n64 and GameCube.

M@tt He1geson: Sassy and I Don't Care Who Knows It (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

I probably won't have the money to buy one of these things until December (had stupid priorities, like a new winter jacket) but once I do I figure Zelda and a small handful of GameCube titles should tide me over in that period between "Have grown tired of/realized I'm not very good at Gears of War" and "preorder came in for Forza Motorsport 2".

I am sad that Red Steel is apparently shitty, though. Even sadder that apparently GC games (specifically Killer7 and RE4) are not Wiimote-compatible.

nate p. (natepatrin), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Red Steel is getting "mixed" not "shitty" reviews, but I'm waiting. How much are GC controllers now anyway? You need them to play Virtual Console shit anyway

roc u like a § (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Probably $20, which is what I paid at Target for a new XBox controller. (And yeah maybe "shitty" is overstating things, says the dude who likes Killer7)

nate p. (natepatrin), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

(and is boggling at the dudes flipping out over Z:TP getting "only" 8.8)

nate p. (natepatrin), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

(from GameSpot, and I haven't trusted their ratings in a while anyways)

don't forget Zack & Wiki and PES 2008.

EZ Snappin, Sunday, 28 December 2008 03:37 (seventeen years ago)

have to say that mario kart wii is really terrible compared to classic mario kart the wheel is such a waste of time and it exposes the shitty wii-mote controls which make the game 1000% less fun and the maps are just jacks of classics. total nintendo cash grab fuck mario kart wii

not counting amazing PS2 ports like RE4 and dokapon kingdom would rep for zelda, super paper mario and ghost squad

delicate mouse tune, crash of cat chords (Lamp), Sunday, 28 December 2008 03:40 (seventeen years ago)

I don't totally get what people are complaining about with Mario Kart Wii, but then I tried the Wiimote/Wheel controls for like 5 minutes before switching back to the Gamecube pad. What did people want more out of it? Better/more stages and old style boosting?

Same questions for Brawl, which was also fun. They're both pretty much iterative versions of the old games, which were good to begin with, plus some halfassed online additions (though I'd give Brawl some more credit overall).

Nhex, Sunday, 28 December 2008 04:37 (seventeen years ago)

The online part of mario kart is about all I play / HUGE plus for me. Endless challenge and fun. Just went back last night and played some Mario Kart 64, which I used to love, and it's still great, but people are looking back at that stuff with rose colored glasses - the game has come a looong way. Never played the gamecube or ds version, so I can't compare to those, but compared to 64 the track design is amazing, especially the remade tracks like rainbow road - going back to play those old ones feels so incredibly plain now. There's just so much more variety to the races now, that's what I like about it, more strategy and action. I also don't use the wheel, but do use the wii remote + nunchuck, which works quite well for me.

Jeff LeVine, Sunday, 28 December 2008 04:55 (seventeen years ago)

i was goofily semi-trolling earlier which fell flat, obv. i'm not a huge mario kart wii fan although playing with the classic controller is a good tip and i appreciate the online play. only problem there is that half the time ppl want to play rainbow road which is my least favorite course. part of it is that kart and brawl aren't games i'd play by myself, even online, and i'm probably not as attuned to the improvements from the 64 versions

delicate mouse tune, crash of cat chords (Lamp), Sunday, 28 December 2008 05:25 (seventeen years ago)

Loving the Wii versh of Bully right now. Will continue to plough a lonely furrow for Endless Ocean, too.

I Was a Teenage Armchair Hongro Fan (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 28 December 2008 10:20 (seventeen years ago)

Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy (tho I think I've realised I don't enjoy the tweeness of Zelda games much anymore)

Honourable mentions: Twilight Princess, Tiger Woods.

But seriously judging by what I've played to date the Xbox 360 has limitless amounts of good games, like the PS1 or PS2, more than you could ever have the time to buy/play. And you aren't forced to play ultra twee cuddlestein mountain games.

Local Garda, Sunday, 28 December 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

Serious Games for Serious Gamers that play Serious Games!

I on the other hand am on Galaxy, Wii Fit, Princess, Metroid (is anyone else playing this at all? It's kind of amazingly beautiful and satisfying 24/7), and looking forward to No More Heroes.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 1 January 2009 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

Metroid really is pretty awesome, although the boss battles drag like a Fassbinder movie. it's totally worth it just for how amazingly well the game itself controls, though.

jamescobo, Thursday, 1 January 2009 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

Got stuck on some boss battle about half way through and never went back to it. Couldn't stand how many times you had to shoot those guys.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 1 January 2009 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ on my list of games i should finish before i buy a new one but i'm at the point where advancement isn't worth the frustration. it does have great controls and looks fantastic
