k yo.

lately, myself and Onimo have been playing CS:S together. any other uk/european CS:Sers care to join us any time?
if we get a few players together at weekends or summat, i'm sure much fun will be had by all.
we play on the UESC Monkey Brothel server most of the time. drop me a reply/email and i'll throw the IP at you. just think, if we get enough people playing, we can put [ILX] tags on our names, and all the kidz0rs will think we R teh ub3r l33t!!!111

: /

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

you'll grow out of it.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm up for this. Online fps'ses always seem so much better when you play with the right people, rather than general internet arseholes. If you're on google talk/msn, you can add me on either with the email I use here. This would probably be the best idea, what with the state the Steam "Friends" list has been in for the last year or so.

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

i played CS from beta 5 until about early 2002. i am now out of the loop. what exactly is CS:Source? is it a sequel? is it a mod or a standalone? is it tied to HL2? is it free?

W i l l (common_person), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

comes with HL2. "Free" in the sense of not having to pay extra after you buy HL2.

Uses the Source engine, which powers HL2.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

and they say this game is popular? humbug!
any more takers?

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 23 September 2005 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

Steampowered.com says they've currently got 192,000 people* playing so it's popular somehere.

(* probably includes 12 nutjobs playing Ricochet)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 23 September 2005 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, you can click the picture and get a breakdown

33,137 playing CS:Source
131,691 playing CS v1.6

Meaning people be opposing change and/or Source still running like a piece of shit on most PCs.

I was wrong about Ricochet. 21 people are playing it.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 23 September 2005 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

I played HL2 Deathmatch t'other night.

HL2DM is fun in small doses, aye.
there's something so satisfying about killing someone with a urinal.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 23 September 2005 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

oh, Onimo; melton mowbray is in on the ILCS:S action now. i initiated* him just yesterday

three weeks pass...
hey ONIMO have you seen this place?

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

I had no idea that there were still far more people playing 1.6 than CS:S. Maybe I'll see if I can dig up that HL1 disk and go try 1.6. I've never even played it!

Dan I., Monday, 17 October 2005 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

I'd give going back to 1.6 a go too, but some twat l33t h4x0r's used my HL1 key on Steam thus rendering it unplayable to me. Then again, I guess I could go out and get it again for a fiver if I looked hard enough.

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 17 October 2005 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

hey ONIMO have you seen this place?

No, but I might check it out. I assume it's further down the street than Missing Records, either that or I don't do much looking up when I amble.

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 11 November 2005 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

can a l33t moder4tz0r please change the heading so that it says "Counterstrike: Sauce"?

g-kit (g-kit), Saturday, 12 November 2005 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

i recently cancelled my xbox live account. i am thinking hard about buying a decent video card and getting back into CS. madness!

W i l l (common_person), Saturday, 12 November 2005 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

how much cheating is there in Sauce? when i last played CS, you had to download a couple of pieces of software that prevented cheating in order to join most servers. cheating was rampant on servers that didn't require this. i quit halo 2 b/c of the blatant, inescapable cheating...

W i l l (common_person), Saturday, 12 November 2005 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

Not much cheating that I've seen. The biggest problem for me is people calling cheat every time they get shot. I was playing well the other night (screenie above) and was called a cheat several times.

There are still lots of cheats on CS 1.6 - I don't think Valve are as diligent with VAC on the old version.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 13 November 2005 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

i've not seen much in the way of cheating, either. not at all on my regular server, as memory serves. VAC seems pretty effective. i've had "OMG kitty hax!" shouted at me a couple of times. it's a nice ego boost.

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 14 November 2005 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

i remember that feeling well :)

Hey I uninstalled Source a long time ago in order to actually get real life shit done, but did that one new half life level (something about a coast) ever come out?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I downloaded it a few weeks ago but never got around to playing it.

sleep (sleep), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

haha, that screenshot!

you can mix real life and sauce! unless you're WEAK.

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

HI DERE WAHT IS IT MADE?

well.. i'll be DogLatining it tonight anyway! So probably be start playing soooon!

BUMSEX!

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

I never play. I'm rubbish. But I'll try and join in with you at some point and let you all pwrn me. How do I find you?

(I also downloaded lost coast then never got round to playing it. I'm going to do it now!)

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

dunno - i'll go to whereever gkit goes and pwn him so you should join in!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

most often the [ILX] massive are playing on UESC Monkey Brothel - 82.136.6.5:27015

the community is nice, but occasionally it gets overrun with a strange group of disrespectful Strongos that break the rules when the admins aren't around and call everybody lolgaynoobs in all caps until the server clears out. makes no sense to me, but that's how some folks roll.

if that happens, we arrange another server on msn. JimD, come play with us! if you use msn, add me: kittenslikemilk@hotmail.com

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

btw, don't expect a challenge or anything. melting snowbray already coined the phrase "playing like a true ilxor" when he was 0 for 9

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

0 for 9 - is that all it was? I can hit much lower now!

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

shh, i'm trying to talk you up.

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

haha, ace. I'll try and find you all then (although I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to play between now and, ulp, new year probably).

it should be noted that my retort made him die IRL

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

haha i am looking forward to this.

hey does this game still have GRENADES???!?!?! i used to be an expert with them in the original (expert as in I RUN TOWARDS PEOPLE AND LOB GRENADES AT THEM and then die)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

yes, it still has nades.
these days, if you get shot while holding a primed nade, it explodufs when you die and drop it, taking out the guy that shot you and possibly a few team-mates. hoorah!

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

omg that's so what i'll do all the time. SHOOT ME IF YOU DARE BITHC! oh sniper fuck.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

Flashbangs are totally where the fun's at. Even if you don't get the other team, you can blind yourself and the team mates around you - woo!

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

No one was on the Monkey's wotsit server last night so I played some iceworld instead :-)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

I heart fy maps so much. Onimo, have you played any of the glassfloor maps?

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

fy maps are pretty much all I play these days as I don't usually play for very long,

I used to play he_glass on v1.6 which great fun on a lan, haven't tried any of the Source ones yet.

There was another one I can't remember the name of but it had 3 glass/transparent levels and teleporters between levels. Brilliant design, forces you to check every possible direction for enemies.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

what's an fy map?

W i l l (common_person), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 04:09 (nineteen years ago)

None of this 'rescue the hostages', 'protect the VIP' or 'defuse the bomb' crap. Straight shoot out, usually on a very small map with random guns lying around. Fast and fun.

fy = 'fuck you' maybe?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

surely not? :O

snowkitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

the latest update has finally made CS:S officially 1337

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/darkshroud/cssource.jpg

snowkitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

anyway, who's up for a game tonight?
ME ME ME!
i have to do some tidying to get my place ready for LAN action tomorrow, but other than that, the night belongs to Sauce.

snowkitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

You betcha, I'm downloading the update now. I should tidy up for Christmas too, so what time do you want to play?

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

well, i'll be up for a game as soon as i get home, until i get hungry. then it's dinner, tidy, back on Sauce.

new models are groovy. another nice new addition is visible weapons when not in use - primary slung on your back, pistol in holster.

shame we didn't get to arrange anything wrt LAN stuff. we should try for sometime next year, though.

snowkitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

oh, and i spoke to mako-chan this morning about crazy Strongos in the brothel. he did some mad stuff involving the ban list, scripting and FTP software and seems quietly confident that they should all be perma-banned now. fingers crossed.

snowkitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

Oooh, the new models and weapon thing sound very good. People already seem to be complaining that they've only been given two models on the Steam forums - wtf?

Looking forward to easy-going Monkey Broffles!

Best game ever! Congrats on pwning us all.

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:25 (nineteen years ago)

i agree, best hax EVAH!

snowkitten (g-kit), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

Hax? Pfft! I'll have you know I was an (albeit mediocre bottom half of the table) ED Prem player in my prime!
(*goes all misty eyed about collapsing drunk at lan parties*)

CT always go to the same places on de_dust, you can almost shoot without looking. It's funny beating them coz they think they've picked the easy team.

Anyway, you saw how bad I was when we got onto All New Shiny New Nuke (6-8 or something? and that was with 3 frags for a bomb!). A wee bit of room for improvement there.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 22 December 2005 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

i never got the hang of dust as Terro. i'm always first in the rush to A, therefore always buy it straight away because i'm the guy that absorbs all the nades/flashes as i run by. One day I'll learn. But not today. I adore Nuke, i'm so glad it's in Sauce now.
I know what you're saying about almost knowing where players will be - i get that mainly on Prodigy and Italy. Of course, Prod is more satifsying as Terro, since, as you say, CTs think they picked the easy team.

GG!

snowkitten (g-kit), Thursday, 22 December 2005 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

i'm always first in the rush to A, therefore always buy it straight away because i'm the guy that absorbs all the nades/flashes as i run by

man this sounded fun!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 December 2005 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

http://lolrider.com/soon.jpg

ken c (ken c), Friday, 23 December 2005 07:21 (nineteen years ago)

ok guys i downloaded it but can't connect to any games wtf why?!?!?

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 24 December 2005 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

Did you buy it? I didn't think you could play it without buying HL2 which you don't seem to have installed.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Saturday, 24 December 2005 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

ken, i think i just saw you FALE to connect. come on msn sometime and i'll try to fix it, festively.

g-kit@xmas, Saturday, 24 December 2005 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

I HAFE FIXED IT NOW!

NOW HOW DO I SHOT HEAD?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man I reinstalled this and I suck so fucking bad.
Does anyone have any AWP tips? Every time I pick one up (I know better than to buy one) I do so badly that people watching me invariably make comments like "wow, that was just sad". I actually get pity from otherwise callous counterstrike mooks I suck so much awping!

Dan I., Tuesday, 3 January 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

I'm pretty shit with an AWP but I have improved slightly from being in the same position as you.

Don't move when you shoot. I naturally strafe and duck and jump and everything when I'm firing automatic weapons and it's hard to get out of the habit. You must be completely still when you fire. Also, don't spend too much time lining up a shot, if you see someone in your scope just make a very short movement towards them and fire.

I still don't buy them ($5k and sometimes you're lucky if you fire one shot) but occasionally practice with them on deathmatch/fy servers as it's handy to be able to use one if you find it.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 00:08 (nineteen years ago)

i always play on no AWP servers, so very rarely try. i'm pretty poor with scout, so i imagine i'd be equally bad with the elephant gun. at long range i'm better off picking them off with my AK tbh. \o/

snowkitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

p.s we have to teach and nurture young kenneth until he is teh pwn. i can see the killer instinct in his eyes, but his mouse hand doth wobble.

snowkitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

i totally shot head!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

I think Ken is my identical-mouse-hand-twin.

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 5 January 2006 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

hush up, GinSkillz.

i finally reinstalled windows and CS:S AGAIN overnight, so hopefully i'll be up and fragging again soon. need to reconfigure everything again though, mouse and keys n stuff, gah. what key is it for console? F10?

snowkitten (g-kit), Thursday, 5 January 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

` is the one I use (top left, under Esc).

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

snowkitten (g-kit), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

F10 FOR KITTYMENU!!

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

which one is the shot head button?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

my LMB is teh HS button lol

btw, from now on you must be known as [ILX] F10 Ken

snowkitten (g-kit), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

I found a server t'other day that was headshot only (i.e. any other shot inflicted no damage), hard as nails but good practice.

OnimOGC v2.1 (GerryNemo), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

ooh, i'd like to try that. post IP plz.

snowkitten (g-kit), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

I'll see if it's still in my history when I get home.

Try some of these, going by the server names they may use the same thing:
http://www.serverspy.net/site/search/?t=3&ty=&na=1&g=all&n=headshot&w=2&q=Search#searcherArea

(Server spy is a handy site for finding things like this & deathmatch servers & friends while Friends is still fucked)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

While I'm here, I spotted the other night that Influx have started up a Source clan using the ILX tag.#

(better link: http://www.serverspy.net/site/search/?w=2&t=2&n=headshot&g=all&ty=0&q.x=23&q.y=8&q=search#searcherArea
that last search was on "beginning with" rather than "containing" headshot)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Shit, forgot to search on CS Source only :-)

http://www.serverspy.net/site/search/?w=2&t=2&n=headshot&g=21&ty=0&q.x=39&q.y=16&q=search#searcherArea

Most of these will be normal servers but this one looks a good bet: 63.215.74.42:27015 - in USA so good luck with yout ping :-)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

bah, USA. thanks though. i can't believe someone stole our tags! surely we must have to FITE for the rights or something?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno. it's not 24/7 or anything, it's up when it's up. and i only tested it for the first time this morning, for 2 minutes. more detail once i've tested it more n stuf (lol)

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

argh wtf, I'm not able to connect to like 4/5 of the servers out there all the sudden.

Dan I., Tuesday, 10 January 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

how do i take screen shot?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

Type

bind "F12" "jpeg" (where F12 is the key you use to shot screen)

in console or put it in your config.cfg file. It might be there by default.

Your screenshots will be stored in
\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\your_id\counter-strike source\cstrike\screenshots

who on this bitch is excited about militia? it was my favourite map on the old!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

me me me!
it wasn't my fave, but it was up there. i always loved nuke, so pleased they did it justice.
anyway, i'm all better now and back at work n stuff, so i'll be back on the Sauce again in the evenings.
our 2 on 2 session while i was in the grip of kittenfever and struggling to operate a server between two machines was a really funny night. pity it drained all the life out of me and i spent the whole of the following week laid up in bed.

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

Militia on old CS was the most terrorist biased map ever (closely followed by Italy). If they camp the house they're almost impossible to beat. If they storm the front they can pin the CTs in. It gets even less fair after 4 rounds when the terrorists who aren't rushing or sitting in indoor tents are sniping from the roof.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

well, not EVERY map can be CT biased. gotta let the Ts have a couple.

snowkitten (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

There's bias and there's ridiculously one sided.

Militia was my favourite 'too drunk to play' map - I'd go terrorist and sit somewhere dark with an mp5.

See also Seige, Estate, Backalley, Assault, etc. All the main hostage maps with the possible exception of Office are Terro biased.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

but you get to throw grenades into the houses and blow people up! yay!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

Militia's the best map ever! Who plays CT anyway?

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah it would be better if everyone went terrorist then you wouldn't even need to shoot anyone :-/

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

shoot the hostages.

the kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

Right, I officially have Friday evening free as everyone else is out of town. I may install CS:S if there's some kind of ILX game going down... anyone up for it?

I will be toss at it BTW. We could always play UT2003 though. Which I will PWN YOU WITH MY MAD KILLZ at.

As you were.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

there's often an ILX game going down. install it! i'm sutre i'll be playing at some point on friday. you use msn? add me! kittenslikemilk@hotmail.com

don't forgot to bring yr [ILX] tags!

the kit! (g-kit), Thursday, 19 January 2006 08:28 (nineteen years ago)

oh yeah, how do you make those spraypaint tag things?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, just take any jpeg, or make one in photoshop/paint, and in the "options>multiplayer" dialog of CS you can browse your drive to find it. I don't think it can do gifs, but it can do pngs for transparency, but I might be wrong.

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

militia is fun.

so when will we have another game guys? i want to play that sledge one again

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 January 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

er.. i play nearly every night.

the kit! (g-kit), Friday, 20 January 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

yeah but all of us innit!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 January 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

with all the other folks all joining in like

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 January 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

the more often everyone plays, the more likely it is to happen. check the server listings, if another ilx0r is playing, go join them! if we all do this, we'll end up all playing together a lot more often.

the kit! (g-kit), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Well, if we can decide on a time we could all go off and play on a surf map server, rather than hassle kitty with setting up a server (unless there's no problem with doing that).

I've not played since our last game I don't think. Do you play on Monkey Brothel, Ken?

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

server's down, i had to take the CPU out of noobbox and lend it to my brother. sorry! i always play on monkey brothel! more chance of meeting if we stick to the same regular server, i figure.

the kit! (g-kit), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, how generous of you! Sticking to the same server is definitely the best idea. Sorry I didn't show up the other night. If you're playing this evening I'll definitely join you!

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

i'll be playing at some point, probably between dinner and going out. i'll be on msn! in fact i'm on msn now, and so are you, and i'm talking to you, and you're not saying anything back! offended? OF COURSE I AM.

the kit! (g-kit), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Monkey Brothel's been full of bots every time I checked recently.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

i think that was a problem with the last update - servers "crashed" and just sat there on the same map all day with the timer at 0 until they were rebooted. hopefully should be fixed after last night's update.

the kit! (g-kit), Friday, 20 January 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

offended? OF COURSE I AM.

Sorry! I think I just lost 2 hours of my life making a sandwich.

I need proper help though. I don't know what guns to buy. And sometimes it says "you have THE BOMB" and I go "shit! Don't give me the bomb! I don't know what to do with it!" and then I let you all down.

Maybe I should rtfm or something.

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

Lol no it's still a new server so it's mainly full of bots. I have admin there so I'm biased I guess!

Darramouss ftw! (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

rtfm will only touch the basics, mission objectives, controls etc.
you really have to play to get a feel of which guns you like. after that, it's a matter of learning the maps, where bomb sites/hostages are, and then practice, practice, practice your aim, strats and gun control.
the more often you stop by, the quicker it'll fall into place. maybe the best thing to do, at first, would be to pick a teammate and just follow them around and help them out.

teh_kit haev been evicted, oh noes! (g-kit), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 07:13 (eighteen years ago)

Darra, it's full of bots because it's a server made by Broffle regs, and the Broffle regs all play on Broffle. your target audience are Brofflers, and they're all too busy Broffling. And since you're both Brofflers too, not many non-Brofflers will check out the server, because the people most likely to play on there, the admins, and too busy Broffling the Brofflers.

Brofflol.

Well I'm sure if I could play for more than 30 mins at a time without it crashing I'd enjoy it a bit more. Updated my graphics card drivers to no avail. I should try another FPS to see if it's just a problem with the Source engine.

ledge (ledge), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 07:33 (eighteen years ago)

hmm. what card are you using?
what kind of crash are you experiencing?
other system specs?

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 08:44 (eighteen years ago)

Nvidia 6600 gt, athlon 3300 or something... it just terminates and throws me back to the desktop, or occasionally the whole machine resets.

I thought I might have fixed it recently, as it seemed to coincide with steam flashing up a news update, or my virus checker or windows update popping up a dialog box... basically activity from any other app. So I disabled all that stuff, closed all other apps before running... same problem.

Also, I've recently changed my processor, motherboard, graphics card, hard drive - everything except the psu - but I had pretty much the same problem with the old kit! Could it be psu related - the card drawing too much power or something? It's 450w - maybe 400 - I wouldn't have thought it would be getting overloaded.

ledge (ledge), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

psu shouldn't be a problem. if they're overworked, they usually just go pop - i had it happen to a 250w once. i used to get occasional HL2.exe errors on my old machine, but since i installed on the new one, it's been fine. have you tried reinstalling? a little drastic, but it's the only thing that's springing to mind at the moment.

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'll give Far Cry a go, was meaning to anyway, and if that works then reinstall, if not... fuck knows.

FACES = squeal of delight emitted on performing a succesful headshot.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 12:14 (eighteen years ago)

oh noes i missed this! i was out fishing instead, and my internet has been giving me jip this week too.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 13:03 (eighteen years ago)

there will be other times! serves you right for going OUTSIDE. what kind of gamer are you, anyway?

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

apologies if you were doing indoor fishing or something, obv.

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

i wasn't. there is no excuse. i am ashamed of myself.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

I just ran Oblivion and it died... overheating is the only thing I can think of. It's a fanless card, I have one case fan but I could try getting a couple more.

ledge (ledge), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

you can get a fan that goes directly on your video card's heat sink.

sleep (sleep), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

hmm, this may be the case... when i had a 5900xt i used to overclock the fuck out of it. everything ran well, except HL2/CS, i used to get occasional HL2.exe errors. so yeah, overheating may be the problem. case fans worked for me, i ended up with 2 intakes and one exhaust.

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

Poor turn out tonight gentlemen! I had to pwn those guys on my own ;)

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 24 August 2006 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Thursday, 24 August 2006 23:18 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry Darra, I was playing this afternoon (and even doing pretty well) but then X3 sucked me in this evening (I built first factory!).

Yeah Melton, come on, I've never even seen you in there. Are ya yella??

JimD (JimD), Friday, 25 August 2006 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

(cor, just rebooted steam, and CS:S is updating itself now...it's new radar time! I might have a go before I go to bed)

JimD (JimD), Friday, 25 August 2006 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I had a go with the new radar, and I really like it...but it makes CS feel like a VERY different game. I can imagine lots of people being miffed about it.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 25 August 2006 11:14 (eighteen years ago)

Hurry up Melton ffs!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 25 August 2006 12:16 (eighteen years ago)

New radar, wtf? Didn't they already do that?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Friday, 25 August 2006 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

They've changed crouching too, so everything feels the wrong height or something.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

My lack of familiarity with the old version means these revisions will not faze me, and I will pwn you all.

i just got back from Reading. these changes sound scary. i retire.

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Monday, 28 August 2006 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

It's just a new radar nothing else. It's a bit like the one in DoD.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Monday, 28 August 2006 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

Source update is crashing my machine.
Fuck a Valve.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 28 August 2006 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

Tried this at the weekend, but when you die you have to wait for the game to end? how are you supposed to get any decent amount of practice this way? i'm so nube to it i get shot straight away.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

Play deathmatch servers and fy maps to practice using the weapons.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

i never did the Onimo technique. the waiting period after death instills FEAR and DISCIPLINE in the player, hence giving him SURVIVAL INSTINCT and the desire to stay alive. you're forced to get better, or you're in for a lot of sitting around.

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 08:22 (eighteen years ago)

yeah? well i have other games to play.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 08:37 (eighteen years ago)

The waiting period after death avoids GAME RELATED UPPER LIMB DISORDERS and gives you time to DRINK BOOZE.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 08:41 (eighteen years ago)

i can never find the deathmatch games on CS, will have another look tonight

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

in all seriousness, i think the waiting period is what makes CS what it is. there is a genuine 'fear' of being killed, which makes player more likely to cooperate and play intelligently in order to survive. instant respawn games don't encourage this as much, i feel.

i am teh_kit! (g-kit), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

In all seriousness playing deathmatch for any length of time gives me sore and/or cold hands and I end up letting my beer go flat coz I haven't got time to drink it.

Are you people silly in the head? 24 was and is the best television show ever made, Lost started out promisingly but it's quite clear it's lost it's way now (no fucking pun intended) and will just plod on for maybe 1 more season before axing forces it to end in a rushed season finalé.

or we can play HL2DM sometime and you can all pwn me with urinals, since i am so utterly hopeless at it.

I on the other hand am not! I'm even deadlier with the gravity gun than with the scout phools!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 22 September 2006 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

I just started playing Counterstrike yesterday. I vaguely remember playing the beta way back in the day when I would get bored with TFC. Can someone a) summarize this thread and tell me where to play? and b) tell me how to not suck and get AWPed through a door/crate/etc every single fucking round?

adam (adam), Friday, 22 September 2006 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

first things first, you're playing CS:Source, the HL2 version, yah? cos that's what we all play.

a) thread summary: i asked people to play CS with me, some said yes. we play usually at UESC Monkey Brothel: 82.136.6.5:27015

b) how not to suck: aim for the head. basically, this game comes down to being fast and accurate at pointing and clicking your mouse. strategy helps, which you can only develop by playing with a decent team and practice, practice, practice. trial and error. know what works and what doesn't, and adapt. learn how to use (and counter) flashes effectively. biggest tip i can give anyone, use your EARS. sound plays a BIG part in this game, especially with smaller teams.

hopefully we'll have a JIHAD TRAINING NIGHT (hi dere FBI) sometime soon, where we all get together and help out the new ILG players. (see, i didn't say NOOBS)

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

also, learn the maps. can't stress that enough.

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 22 September 2006 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

My strategy at this point is point a big ass pistol at some dudes and click rapidly until flashbang I'm dead. I've been playing the office and dust levels, what else is good/commonly played?

adam (adam), Saturday, 23 September 2006 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

other common maps, in order of awesomeness:

de_NUKE
de_aztec
cs_italy
cs_assault
stupid fucking de_prodigy. WHY is this map popular?

de_inferno isn't common, but it should be, since it's brilliant.

teh_kit (g-kit), Saturday, 23 September 2006 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

Here here! Prodigy is sooo lame. Especially when it gets down to 2 noobs at the end that don't know the level and you have to sit there watching while they slow walk around corners at opposite ends of the map until the timer runs out.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Saturday, 23 September 2006 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

cool! i'll keep my eye on Steam friends.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 08:36 (eighteen years ago)

what can you tell me about the money thing, where does the money come from? how is it earned, does it really matter? i just press auto buy at the start of each round, should i be thinking more about my gun shopping? whats best to buy?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 12:29 (eighteen years ago)

A scout. Real men use a scout!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

kk, having never tried autobuy, i can't really comment on it, but, judging by what the Bots buy sometimes, it's probably shite.

the following is all personal preference, obviously, but here's how i buy (in this order):
I ALWAYS get Kevlar and helmet. ALWAYS.
next on the list is a decent pistol. 90% of CS players swear by the Desert Eagle (1,4 in the buy menu), and i can see the logic. it packs a hell of a punch, and 95% of headshots are instant kills. personally, i prefer the USP (1,2 in buy menu). Larger clip, better rate of fire, but not so much damage.

Next comes the big decision: which main weapon to buy?
For noobs (sorry), i'd recommend the MP5 (3,2 in buy menu). High rate of fire, pretty low recoil, good stopping power if you get a headshot in your burst/spray. If you're at long range, switch to pistol, though, since MP5 is wack at anything over short-mid range.

When you get some confidence with the MP5, try your hand at the AK47 (4,2) as terrorist, or M4 (4,3) as Counter-Terrorist. Remember, single shots and short bursts only, or the recoil will send your aim sky high and you won't hit fuck all.

If you're finding recoil hard to control, try the pump action shotgun (2,1), it's awesome at close range, and even at mid-long range, a few blasts will make people think twice about confronting you, unless they have a rifle, in which case, you're probably fucked.

But really, it's all about experimentation and finding something you're comfortable with. I know a fair few players that always use an SMG or Shotgun.

Personally, my faves in order of preference (with buy commands in brackets again):

AK47 (4,2)
MP5 (3,2)
Mac10 (3,1)
Pump shotty (2,1)

If you have some money left after all that, stock up with HE Grenades and Flashbangs. Flashbangs are AWESOME, i swear by them. I HATE having to rush into combat without at least one.

Sorry 4 essay tbh. Anyone add anything else?

xpost, Scout PWNS, but it's not for noobs.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

great stuff! cheers.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

oh, to answer the other parts of your question:

money is important, yes. the richer team can buy better arms and equipment, and is therefore more likely to pwn.

money is given to players for:
being on the winning team
planting the bomb
defusing the bomb
killing members of the opposite team

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

so is the money always evenly shared within the team?

i'm actually not bad with the sniper, on the dust level i think it was called. might have just been a one off tho.

i really need to get my head shot aiming improved, it's slacking even in HL2 deathmatch.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

Scout really doesn't take that long to get half decent with. The trick is letting people run into ur xhair. I think kitty's covered pretty much everything but also remember a nade kill gets you the same amount of money as a headshot. $300.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

Oh and autobuy auto-buys an AK or M4 depending on team, ammo and Kevlar if you have enough money.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

what is this scout weapon?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

Someone else answer him I'm a gettin angry!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:28 (eighteen years ago)

your default mood is angry.

Scout is the cheaper, grey, bolt-action sniper rifle.

i'm not 100% on the specifics of the money system, google/wiki will have very specific answers and values.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

Scout really doesn't take that long to get half decent with.

so what's your excuse?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:43 (eighteen years ago)

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

Big welcome to Ste tonight. You'll do ok.... ;)

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

heh heh. cheers for the invite, enjoyed it. would you believe that was actually an improvement on my usual play!

are the bots the (chimps) tags?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah they're bots with the (chimp) easy as piss just stand still and they dont know where to aim.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

yah, gg!

any weapon preferences so far, Ste?

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

as a terrorist i really like one of the rifles (one below the Scout i think), had a scope on it, silver in colour? didn't play much as a CT but the assault rifle with the silencer was fairly awesome.

there was only one smg that i could get used to, i really struggled to do any damage with most of them.

got used to the whole buying thing tho, and also recognising my team members from a distance - which is obv good news for everyone.

it was great! even the spectating part was fun.

i see good things for this weekend :)

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

You have no idea how hooked you're going to get Ste.....

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

i'll play you guys again one day

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

come join us ken! whats your screen name?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

we used to call him F10 Ken.

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

so many bots last night, their inane chatter drives me crazy

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 28 September 2006 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

He's got the bomb!

[Chimp] Dave (GerryNemo), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

SPOTTED THE DELIVERY BOY.

[Chimp] Henry Gale (g-kit), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

Need Help! -Arrggggghhhhgurglegurgle

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 28 September 2006 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

and they just take the whole thing far too serious.

having said that, I could've sworn I heard one of them say "OWNED" last night.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 28 September 2006 11:41 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah they say owned and my personal fave 'WE OWNED 'EM!'

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:20 (eighteen years ago)

I played on some retardo server where, when you died, you became a ZOMBIE, and these douchewits would just camp out @ the top of some structure and shoot you while you tried to ZOMBIFY them. LAME.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 29 September 2006 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

Can I just give that guy a big GG for introducingme to the word douchewit

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 29 September 2006 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

is there something wrong with Steam tonight, i just can't get my friends list up.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 29 September 2006 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, friends is fucked atm

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 29 September 2006 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

No Ste we're all hiding from you because you smell! :p

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 29 September 2006 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

I KNEW IT!! ;)

its working now, and kitty is online.

Ste (Fuzzy), Saturday, 30 September 2006 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

and now it's down again

Ste (Fuzzy), Saturday, 30 September 2006 18:35 (eighteen years ago)

aw nobody on tonight.

i had phun playing one of the 'gun games' where you progress through the guns each time you get a kill.

Ste (Fuzzy), Sunday, 1 October 2006 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

Gun games are cool, I won one today and felt like the uber-leetz0r. Nice way to inject a bit of fun into the game, although some of the maps they use on those servers are a tad poo.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Sunday, 1 October 2006 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, i gave up on the forest paint ball one. everyone had reached automatics levels while i just couldn't get off pistol. made it impossible for me.

Ste (Fuzzy), Sunday, 1 October 2006 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

this sounds like fun! i wanna try.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 2 October 2006 08:25 (eighteen years ago)

have you never played them? They're madness!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 2 October 2006 08:47 (eighteen years ago)

still having probs with the Friends server.

And when i want to list the servers at the start of play my columns are screwed. ie the columns "Game", "Players?" "Map", "Latency" are always scrunched up to the right of window whenever i open it up new.

anyone know how to fix it?

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 2 October 2006 09:15 (eighteen years ago)

and yeah of course i drag them across and resize them, but they go back to being scrunched if i restart.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 2 October 2006 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

no idea. what's your desktop resolution? maybe that's the issue. i have 12x10, and mine always looks fine.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 2 October 2006 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

nah don't think it's that, it's a problem thats only just started happening, i haven't changed my screen size (its quite big)

it's as if it's decided to suddenly shart showing the full server names in the window, so the other columns don't stand a chance. Like when you double click on an Excel column and it expands to its maximum entry length.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 2 October 2006 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

it's kinda fixed itself on DoD, but still seems to screwed on CS. oh well, whatever.

have been winning games on DoD actually, knowing the maps on these games really pays off doesn't it.

Last night i was teaming well with some guy, we were clearing the levels in seconds, then he decides to switch teams. Leaves me with some guy on my team who just seeemed to enjoy standing around shooting thousands of holes in all my spray tag pics of my mates pet dog. the loon.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 07:35 (eighteen years ago)

oh, and i was top of my team in a gun game of CS last night too (didn't actually win the levels tho). but maybe this means there's some slight improvement yes?

huzzah!

the gun games actually give you a good time to discover which weapons are chud, like the ak47 for instance

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:07 (eighteen years ago)

If you mean "chud" as in "best weapon in the history of gaming" then OTM.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

OnimOTM!

wtf, Ste!? AK47 is made of pwn.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 11:42 (eighteen years ago)

not for me it wasn't, everyone seemed to be imune to its bullets. unless they happen to bundle into my barrel coming around a corner.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

are you ok with M4 or any other rifles? maybe it's your technique.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 12:20 (eighteen years ago)

The Ak is a harsh mistress. But if you master it it's up there with the best. I think it's slightly more prone to recoil than the m4, so you're probably better giving it a two or three shot burst. Always seems to be a good gun for getting HS with though.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

OTM.
deffo more prone to recoil than M4. with M4 you can get away with longer bursts at med range and pray for the recoil-aided headshot; not so with AK, which takes a little more skill and practice. Aim and squeeze, be sure of your first shot, as subsequent shots will be knocked way off target by the mulekick of the AK.

hey there, struttin' with some barbecue, gonna come play with us sometime?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:03 (eighteen years ago)

the mulekick of the AK.

and thats why i hate it, i guess i'm just a big dandy.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:12 (eighteen years ago)

I put that IP from upthread for the chimp server in my favourites. Been on once or twice, my "handle" is Napoleon.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

you'll get used to it, Ste.
the main thing to remember with the AK is that because of the recoil, as i said above, the first shot is critical. so take an extra fraction of a second to make sure your shot is dead on, because unlike most weapons in CS, you can't really adjust after you've started firing and still expoect to hit anything. you can use that technique with the M4 without too much hassle, but with the AK, forget it. But that said, AK is VERY accurate with that first shot, so aim for the head, and if you hit, it's lights out for them, even if they have kevlar and helmet.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

gutted this weekend as i'll not be able to play anything, birthday do's both today and tomorrow, all day tomorrow! bah.

one thing i realised playing DoD last night, mapping my right mouse button for the 'duck' action and the middle mouse wheel button for 'secondary action'. works a treat.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 6 October 2006 07:23 (eighteen years ago)

i tried GunGame this weekend. it's teh awesome! so fast & furious!

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 9 October 2006 08:54 (eighteen years ago)

What is it?

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

aw nobody on tonight.
i had phun playing one of the 'gun games' where you progress through the guns each time you get a kill.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 9 October 2006 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

kit pwned most of them, while i had a nap at the keyboard for 7 hours.

that mini snow level was utter madness!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 9 October 2006 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

i think i'm going to make a return the more relaxing normal games this week, if anybody is around.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 9 October 2006 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

it was nice to play back on the monkey brothel last night, those gun games get a bit much. It was tough to adjust back to 'strategy' play as well. i found the zombie streets monkey brothel too. and i won a round for the CT's !!

i have a question about lag though. my ping is usually around 30-50. Is this okay? I ask because often I find myself chucking hundreds of bullets right into someones face only to end up deaded from a single shot. and from spectating i see people taking each down with only a couple of long distance shots to the body.

Is there often lots of lag, do i have to compensate and shoot 'in front' of my enemy?

or am i kidding myself and im just a crap shot?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

a ping of 30-50 is fine, that's what i usually have on the Broffle, when it's busy.
You don't have to compensate for your ping when aiming in Sauce. you should be shooting at exactly where the model is on your screen.
i can only put the "chucking loads of bullets into face" phenomenon down to recoil. if you're going to spray, remember that only the first 1 or 2 shots will land where your crosshair is. bring your xhair down to their feet while spraying, and it should send the rest of yr bullets into his stomach/chest/head.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 09:34 (eighteen years ago)

if that doesn't help, take yr shirt off and put a bra on yr head.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

lolz

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 09:38 (eighteen years ago)

i guess another good tip would be to spectate good players. i learned a hell of a lot in a couple of weeks by watching one particularly good player and emulating his tactics (and then stealing his catchphrase).

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 09:40 (eighteen years ago)

i'll watch darramouse then!

:P

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 09:42 (eighteen years ago)

he can teach you the Houdini bullet-catch.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

I hate teh kit :(

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

wai 2 haet teh_kit?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 10:40 (eighteen years ago)

:)

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

sorry i didn't play you in a gun game darra last night, was eating chinese food when you messaged me.

will more than likely be a little 'merry' after watching the footy in the pub tonight, so if anyone sees me on after 11.30. just bear this in mind and go easy heh.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

so come on, own up. who uses a zboard?

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 12 October 2006 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

not me.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:10 (eighteen years ago)

i only started using a mouse that cost over £5 about 4 months ago.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

a guy at work heard i'd started playing CS and has been showing me what he uses, i think he's a bit of a fanatic. using zboards and mice that cost over £50. i argued with him that its all down to skill and not how many dpi's you have. teh kit has just proved me right.

i did just buy a new mouse tho, as mine is cack and is about to die i think.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

I love these spoilt little 14 year olds that get mummy and daddy to fork out tons of £££ for expensive mice and keyboards then throw a massive tantrum when they still can't play for shit.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

in all honesty, i did notice a bit of a difference when i finally bit the bullet and bought a high dpi gaming mouse. however, the difference was largely in the feel of the mouse and the smoothness of motion, any increase in accuracy was pretty negligable. plus it has more buttons, which is cool. even though i don't use them.
i do see a lot of people banging on about their new RAZR mouse that set them back 65 notes. then i headshot them.

oh, in other CS news, looks like the new pricing system is in effect now. a lot of people are bitching about it, but i really like the idea. i imagine m4 and AK47 prices will be sky high in a few months, though.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:28 (eighteen years ago)

actually that would be cool, because it puts more emphasis on the need to pwn people and steal their gun;

free to those that can afford them.
very expensive to those that can't

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:33 (eighteen years ago)

the RAZR that's the one this guy got yes.

will have a look at the new pricing thing at lunchtime when i play for half an hour.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

you get to play at lunch? BASTARD.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

Stop quoting Withnail & I! And this new price thing sounds like it's gonna suck. Why fix what isn't broken?

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

but it IS broken - some of the prices are wacko.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Not for the likes of us!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:12 (eighteen years ago)

me no understand

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

Well basically we're quite good so we don't have much trouble affording AK's/M4's.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

oh. and modest, too.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

They could lower scout ammo tbh, that stuff is too pricey.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:21 (eighteen years ago)

ammo prices are unaffected, but let's do some simple math:
if the price of scout goes down a fraction, you'll logically be able to afford more of (x)

what is (x)?

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

and tbh, if you use more than 10 shots in a single round, you probably shouldn't be using scout anyway :D

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

So why do you keep buying it? :D

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

because it upsets you.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

right, i didn't understand it. it was called CS Source Beta and it was a new seperate download. does this mean that the old pricing system will remain on the old CS system? or is it going to replace it eventually.

lots of "bargains of the week" and confused me completely.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 12 October 2006 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

no idea, i only read the news item.
i'll take a look when i get home.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 October 2006 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

i love those zombie servers where they use the alien skins from Half Life.

and steam keeps losing all my favourites!!

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 12 October 2006 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

so i just read properly what this new system is all about. could have two effects:

1, prices of a few really good guns get ridiculously high and the game becomes inaccessible very rapidly to noobs like me.

2, noob players become learned in the fact that earning money is u&k and i stop running blindly around corridors or into own teams flash grenades and actually start playing properly as rewards are worth it.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 12 October 2006 12:37 (eighteen years ago)

and on the server i played i didn't see any ammo purchase. i could be wrong tho.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 12 October 2006 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

So Darra, you didn't stay long in the gun game. Did you not like it?

To be honest I got pissed off playing everything last night and didn't stay for long either

swore like a bastard at everyone playing Day of Defeat.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 19 October 2006 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

Lol it was fun I just hated that particular map.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 19 October 2006 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

yeah is a bit shit that one.

was just going out as you invited me last night, but will be on all night tonight. hurrah! to test my new mouse.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 20 October 2006 07:46 (eighteen years ago)

Nice!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 20 October 2006 11:09 (eighteen years ago)

I've no plans for this evening either and I fancy some gun game. If one of you fancies adding me to friends so I can join in the fun my friend's account name is: omgsex0r. It's my bro's account so forgive the shitty name!

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

Curse you Ste and your addictive Gungames! Oh and my steam is Kevka2002 or failing that Darramouss.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 20 October 2006 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

Gun games are brilliant. Really brought me back to the CS playing. Though I haven't played much tonight, bit hungover (yeah, still) and a few maps that I wasn't too keen on have been on. I did win the first one I was in though, despite taking about a year to score a nade kill :)

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 20 October 2006 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

Oh man nade kills are the worst. Especially after the delirium of getting a para!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 20 October 2006 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

They are so annoying when the server has armour because I think with full health and full armour you can't get killed by even the most direct nade kill. So you need to bargain on your dipshit teammates doing damage first.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 20 October 2006 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

Good game the night by the way, black cancer sluts!

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Saturday, 21 October 2006 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

Lol you must be Napoleon. Hello m8.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Saturday, 21 October 2006 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't realise in that first game who you were, it was only until i saw your name again on another server that it clicked.

top night on friday.

had a fright on Saturday. loaded the Steam window up and none of my games would launch - it kept forwarding me onto the purchase screens. sorted it out now tho.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 23 October 2006 08:19 (eighteen years ago)

hello

i am back on teh Sauce. i've been on holiday.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 23 October 2006 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

Gaming messageboard I'm on might be changing their CS:S server, which is always dead, to Gun Game. I'll post the IP if it happens.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

i played that zombie server, where you turn into a zombie when you die. nice idea. shit maps.

when you're the undead all your screen goes greenish and strange, much like the alien view in alien vs predator.

has anyone seen those surfing maps? wtf is that all about?

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

welcome back teh kit!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 23 October 2006 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

Bloddy gun game why the FUCK do they give you a nade after a para? I mean what dribbling mong thought that that would be a good idea?!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Monday, 23 October 2006 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

Good session tonight guys!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Monday, 23 October 2006 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

yeah! last night was awesome, it was great that we had so many ILGers together for a game.
i just checked the top post, this thread is over a year old now! we've made good progress, i think we've had 7 different people in the ILG massive since it started. if we can get Onimo and Meltang back on board, we'll have to have a big ILG skirmish someday.

aces faces.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 06:52 (eighteen years ago)

took me a while to find my flow but yeah, was cool to have the ILG clan in the house!

that lag on MB was hilarious.

and still no radar. I've realised it's been missing for some time now, but I just thought it was a server preference. Turns out it's my fucked up game.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 07:29 (eighteen years ago)

Same again tonight then? If MB is fucked still we can go on the-server-I-am-affilliated-with.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 11:59 (eighteen years ago)

lol.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

i'll be there, hopefully. i'm going to have to re-install the whole game i think, the radar problem has been evident ever since i ran that Beta CS game. The stupid cunts.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

Don't do it! You'll be downloading the updates for years.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

You have a point, I might wait until tomorrow and leave it running while I'm at work.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

No problem m'am now you take care of little timmy I'm needed elsewhere. Up up and away!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

I'll definitely be on tonight. Wasn't on for long last night because I'd been playing Gun Game for hours and after a decent start I drifted into suckiness, so I spat the dummy out and went and read a book.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

I think I need to reinstall :(

ONIMO has fallen into changing screen name HELL (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

One day I will play. One day soon... given that soon my job will be over and I plan on doing nothing for a couple of weeks.

ledge (ledge), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

i still have you in my friends list, ledge. i don't think i've ever seen you online. come join us, watch me get my ass kicked by everyone else its such a larf!

didn't get to rejoin last night, got called out. am on tonight most probly.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

ferk off and i got my radar back!

and how much easier is it? wow, just had a quick blast then and totally pwned it. Don't understand how I've managed without it for so long, oh hold on - I HAVEN'T!

just in case it happens to any of you, the command I used in the console was:
cl_radaralpha 1

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 27 October 2006 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

that's not the point, though. the point is that he's still a huge twat that revels in any opportunity to hinder peoples' enjoyment of the game.

I've been somewhat preoccupied with Rock'n'roll Racing on my SNES but I shall soon be playing Gun Game all the fucking time on this server: 83.142.49.24:27015 which at the moment isn't working (guy tried to configure it to Gun Game while drunk, hilarity ensued) but should be soon.

i noticed mine updating last night, for the new pricing system i guess.

It should make people mix it up a bit and stop them choosing the same gun over and over again. i feel quite comfy with them all, apart from mac10 which is just garbage.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

The new radar is brilliant. I couldn't go back to the old one now.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 2 November 2006 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

so all the toys from yr pram are accounted for now?

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Friday, 3 November 2006 08:37 (eighteen years ago)

nobody seemed to like the new pricing menu. I didn't really have any beef with it, at least i don't have to buy ammo all the time.

the flourescent green star 'bargain' labels are uncalled for though.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 3 November 2006 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

it's cheesy, and changing the buy menu around has completely fucked up my buying, and therefore my quick off the mark starting strats. should only last a few days while i readjust, but really, there was no need whatsoever to change Equipment from 8 to 6 in the menu. other than that, there's nothing wrong with the actual pricing system at present. though when AKs are $4000, i'll probably reconsider.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Friday, 3 November 2006 11:07 (eighteen years ago)

No it's completely screwed. Apparently I'm too stupid to buy ammo on my own so they've done it for me. Thanks Valve! And now I can't use a deagle on the first round. Utter bollocks, DoD is looking mighty tasty right now.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, Darrapaws. the Steam forums are calling you!
butyng ammo is a completely pointless feature - you have a gun, why would you NOT buy ammo? it's also inclusive in the price of the gun now, effectively bringing ALL prices down between $50-200 before adjustment, depending on the weapon.
AK, deagle and M4 are expensive? Well, no shit. The most lethal weapons in the game + high demand warrants a high price tag.
Maybe if people spent a little more time focusing on improving skills with other weapons (i'm so glad about my USP fixation now), they'd be less angsty about prices changing.
Anyway, CS weapon prices have been untouched by inflation for 5 years, surely it's about time something went up a little? ;)

Prices change weekly, and what goes up must come down, especially with this model. When things become too expensive, they will be purchased less, the price will drop. Swings and roundabouts. Plus it's nice to be able to effectively buy a Deagle as a main weapon and a Mac10 as a sidearm with your change!

as someone mentioned on MB last night, what really is the point of the night vision goggles? Are they just a throw over from the original CS game, or are there actually some maps that require them?

They're cheap as chips at the moment, star buy! etc. Might get a pair for me dad for crimbo.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

The point is I want the fucking choice to buy ammo. I can use any gun also I just prefer the main ones because they are the best ones.

as someone fairly noo to the game i have since day one been slightly baffled by the inclusion of having to buy ammo, as it was deemed necesary in all circumstances. maybe this is where Valve are coming from.

Darra, totally up for some DoD if you fancy it. I'm going to be all over the steam games this weekend. hurrah!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 3 November 2006 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

my only other point about the ammo is when you've just nicked someones gun, and you survive the level, how do you top up the ammo again?

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 3 November 2006 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

it probably auto buys it for you then wipes your arse too. And I can't wait till they start buying Kevlar for you and making you a packed lunch. Yeah DoD sounds good.

-- teh_kit returns! (kittenslikemil...), Today 2:14 PM. (g-kit) (later)

In eco rounds I often stick with a usp/glock and one clip. The whole point is to save money, manage money, and know how much the team will have colectively for the next round.

If you have to use 120 glock bullets to kill some fucker with a decent gun you're playing the wrong game.

In a rush round you're either dead or guarding a bomb within 20 seconds and umpteen nades of the start and you'd never use 120 AK rounds (well you could spray like a madman but you'd hit fuck all)

Also, as I understand it (my sauce=fuxored), you don't get max with every weapon. MAC10 apparently comes with a clip in the chamber and 40 extra rounds - you use to be able to buy 150. 70 MAC10 rounds = about 5 seconds of ammo = shite.

ONIMO's losing the plot (GerryNemo), Friday, 3 November 2006 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

Plus sometimes you can buy a grenade with the extra money you would have spent on max ammo.

which ones Inferno? Why do the maps have silly names?

where's all the love gone?

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 6 November 2006 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

Infern is the one with lots of physics props - defusal map, looks kinda Mediteranean; washing lines, pottery, narrow streets, growling dog, lots of corners.

i'm full of lurve!

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Monday, 6 November 2006 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

oh that one, i love the dog and physics effects but i don't know it enough to play well on yet. i spectated Napoleon going down areas i'd never even seen before.

at the moment i only seem to do well on Aztec, the tomb raider type map. hate the one with the cooling towers on, love dust but i'm crap at it.

and what the hell is that camp script all about on the Goldfish gun game servers? it seems if you stay still for about 3 seconds it accuses you of camping and nicks yer gun. madness!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 6 November 2006 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

Inferno's crap it's full of pointless props that cause massive amounts of lag.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Monday, 6 November 2006 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

Inferno's great, BUT it's full of pointless props that cause massive amounts of lag.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Monday, 6 November 2006 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

It was good on 1.6. I think source should get back to simplicity. Office looks good and there aren't actually that many props, same with Dust.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Monday, 6 November 2006 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

It doesn't lag for me too much. Back in 1.2 or 1.3 Inferno was my favourite map, tieing with cs_thunder. Which no-one seems to be able to remember when I mention it. It was a big power station, the CTs started on one side and would run over this big outside bit that was a dam. The hossies were kept in a really big room that was two stories high and had a vent high up in one corner. It rocked.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

i don't get the lag, either btw. i just hear about it a lot.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

i was playing last night and i noticed someone commented "his ping is only 19 yet he has lag, wtf" and someone replied "probably on wireless"

so am i losing out using a wireless internet connection for multiplayer gaming? i thought the loss was marginal. if this is the case fuck that wifi bollocks, i'm connecting direct asap.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 16 November 2006 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

People always say that wifi is a bit laggy for FPS gaming, but when "people" = CS players, it's probably to be taken with a pinch of salt.
However, although we use a wireless router in my house, my machine is fully cabled up to it, JUST IN CASE.
Are you using defualt rates, or have you changed them? Your rates are more likely the cause of any percieved lag w/low ping.

teh_kit (g-kit), Thursday, 16 November 2006 12:01 (eighteen years ago)

Been a while since anyone posted here of course.

Happy new year CS'ers!

Did anyone play much over the holiday, there was a cool santa claus mod floating around.

I found another gun game mod. When you get killed you don't have to wait until the end of the round you just respawn somewhere randomly. You need 3 kills per gun though, and its' bedlam.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 5 January 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

Hi dere, Saucey.
Not been playing much over Xmas period, I was worried that my pwnj might slip, but I played a lot of Call of Duty 2 over the last week or so, and found that the FACES still flow in my direction.
I reckon I'll fire up CS tonight at some point, if anyone fancies a game.

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

i would but Steam might still be down. Somethings happened since the new update, and apparently everyone is having problems. It starts to update and then stops, and then you just can't open up Steam at all.

Something to do with bandwidth problems at Steam end. If its up I'll totally meet you there!!

I almost won my first gun game the other night, if I hadn't had to check on my oven it would be pwnj all over the shop.

trickery.net is the name.

Aye, it's got some good maps. The one with all the bunkers (i.e. bunker_somethingorover.bsp or whatever) is pretty slick. It also has churches which is cool and this other one that I've totally forgotten the name of but that has two towers on each side of the map and is pretty sweet.

Few too many smart arses around last night, but still had a laugh.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 11 January 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

Anyone on tonight? I have a heap of art to do for most of the evening but will more than likely be on in the late late hours. no work tomorrow !!!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 12 January 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
I am officially sick of gun game. Back to normal CS I think.

jimn (jimnaseum), Saturday, 3 February 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

two months pass...
REVIVE 4 ILG2 or whatever the fuck it's called.

I stopped playing over xmas, started again last week. I haf lost some skillz.

Everybody play this more.

g-kit, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

I played briefly last week, was awful at first but the skillz came flooding back frighteningly fast. i need a new logo as well.

look out for me on teh steam.

Ste, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

I still play a bit. I have totally lost my skills. Have been playing BF2: Desert conflict/combat whatever. A mod that took 2 years to build but is basically hardly a kick in the arse off of just being BF2. Some good maps though (that is the ones that actually run properly, a good few of them were coded badly and jerk all over the shop), always lots of vehicles littered around the place so the game never resembles the hiking simulator that BF2 can sometimes be. But we're talking about CS. Still playing gun game at the Trickery server I posted above. Probably be on for a shot the next few days because I'm no working.

jim, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:55 (eighteen years ago)

I still am yet to play a gun game. I suppose this is the week.

melton mowbray, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

i tried gun game again last night, all new maps i didn't recognise, it lasted about three seconds. so infuriating.

Ste, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

five months pass...

REVIVE TO LIFE!

I kiss you new catalyst driver for fixing my Sauce. Now I need to learn how to play again.

I am <3ing 'headshot only' deagle maps.

onimo, Sunday, 16 September 2007 09:58 (seventeen years ago)

badly timed revive ! i have loads of painting work to do for the next 6 weeks.

i like the new friend interface

Ste, Monday, 17 September 2007 08:58 (seventeen years ago)

played CS;s at lunchtime and am addicted again. but as is the norm with this sort of thing I've completely forgotten how to play and got my ass kicked.

Ste, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:45 (seventeen years ago)

Ok I'm sneaking along holding down my trusty 'shift' key to walk. I press my handy 'Tab' (+showscores) key to check how many bad guys are left and OK WTF IS THE STEAM COMMUNITY AND WHERE DID MY GAME GO?!

They've bound a short cut to a shitty Games2.0 pile of shite using two standard in-game keys!

By the time I work out what has happened and get back to the game I've been stabbied to death.

Valve: twats.

onimo, Monday, 17 September 2007 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

Ooh, I haven't even touched this since I bulit my ninja new PC. I'll try to get online one night this week.

JimD, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 03:19 (seventeen years ago)

thats crazy onimo, valve are such idiots sometimes.

i'm hoping to grab an hour on this today before i have to start painting again.

i've added an avatar!

Ste, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 09:11 (seventeen years ago)

SAUCE!!!! I will play more often and steamfriends you all up when I do.

I encountered the walk/check scores wtf steamfriends problem the other day. Yes, Valve = twats.

SAUCE!!!!

g-kit, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 09:50 (seventeen years ago)

gah! painting all evening again tonight. but i should be available tomorrow night

Ste, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 10:15 (seventeen years ago)

HELLO WTF WHY ARE YOU NOT ALL PLAYING TEAM FORTRESS 2? Actually, why am I not... oh yeah, work.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 13:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not playing TF2 because there doesn't yet appear to be a preorder bundle for those of us who already have HL2 and everything, but want to pick up E1, plus E2 and all the new bits and pieces.

I made us a group! Join!

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ILG

We have no picture. I might use the one from here:

JimD, Sunday, 30 September 2007 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

FFS, you're getting two $30 games and a $20 game for $45! And you can pass on the HL2 to someone else (er, allegedly).

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:11 (seventeen years ago)

in ur group
doing nothing

(srsly though, now that I'm in, what is it for?)

onimo, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:24 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I'm wondering that too now.

And that's a fair point AF, I hadn't actually looked at the bundle prices, I just wondered where the one for me specifically was.

JimD, Monday, 1 October 2007 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

Bought a new mouse from amazon yesterday so when that comes in I'll be on and cracking. This one does the spin round your head thing far too often.

jim, Monday, 1 October 2007 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

Team Fortress 2 is out!? This is the worst thing I've encountered since my PC fried. The first time I've desperately wanted a new one, at least.

How long until that Orange Box thing is out on Xbox? I assume it'll be able to play against PC folks, a la Shadowrun, and if it does I'll be there.

melton mowbray, Monday, 1 October 2007 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

Meltang

g-kit, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 10:51 (seventeen years ago)

I pre-ordered the orange box last night and had a quick go on TF2.

Seems fun, i adore the graphics. was a little confused with how the gameplay worked but i'm sure after tonight i'll have sorted most of that out.

i'm

Ste, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:31 (seventeen years ago)

ooh, and so Portal becomes available on the 10th ?

yay!

Ste, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:33 (seventeen years ago)

Aw wow, thanks for the E1 gift Ste, that's fantastic!! :-D

JimD, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago)

Portal is LOVE. I haven't enjoyed a game this much since Psychonauts, which isn't much of a coincidence seeing as how they're both written by the OMM guys.

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 16:33 (seventeen years ago)

hey no worries Jim

Ste, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

er - anybody still playing this? I just installed it LAST NIGHT! Apparently my pc is slightly less shit than I thought it was. Haven't really played much games on a computer since lode runner tho - so I have some catching up to do. Are there any decent online guides on the basics of the game? Just had time to try it out a little with the bots and was a bit lost there - so don't even want to think about how i'd fare in a real game yet...

steam = jefflev13

Also interested in some Half Life 2: Deathmatch which came packed in. Tried it out a little this morning and it was pretty crazy. I really like that world...

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

This is an epic thread!

Is it weird that more people are STILL playing the original rather than source?

Counter-Strike 187,92 current players
Counter-Strike: Source 83,038 current players

Also, do I now need to buy a pc headset?

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

i sometimes play a gun game once in a while. but gun games attract the lunatics.

HL2 DM is madness non stop, nobody has time to chat. especially the killboxes, great fun.

i think if you're deadly serious about your gameplay then a headset could be useful for team talk. I do find it's easier when sometimes talks to me over the speaker, rather than reading it on the chat window.

Ste, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:07 (seventeen years ago)

Headphones are essential for hearing where enemies are as well, though not quite so essential since stupid new wallhack radar was brought in.

Assuming you know the basic FPS stuff of running, jumping, ducking and shooting my advice would be
- learn the maps, learn the maps and learn the maps
- every time you die switch your view mode to one of the best players in your team and watch what they do
- learn what guns are shit and what guns are worth buying
- don't rush in like cannon fodder until your game improves

I play maybe a couple of times a week. I still prefer 1.6 to Source but I'm happy to play Source if anyone's around and fancies a game. g-kit and JimD still play and I think melton mowbray was going to start playing again so maybe we could sort a day, time and server out?

I've found myself playing nothing but gun games and deathmatches lately as I can't be arsed being dead.

onimo, Thursday, 6 December 2007 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

what are gun games?

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:30 (seventeen years ago)

In gun games everyone starts with a glock or a usp or something. You need to get a certain amount of kills with it then you get the next gun up, eventually progressing to Colts and AK47s and eventually you need a grenades kill then a knife kill or something. First to get through every weapon wins the game. It's deathmatch based so you keep respawning. You can steal levels by getting knife kills at any time (handy for people like me who can't use a Scout).

It fast and frantic and fun but really frustrating if you get off to a bad start and everyone else has a better gun than you.

onimo, Friday, 7 December 2007 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

guys, it's that time of year when we all adopt festive variations on our regular CS names. we have to play soon, if only to see the now legendary handles "Santa's On His Gay", "Jangle Balls" and "Melting Snowbury".

So my youngest brother came by over the weekend and gave me his old video card (and installed it). Before at my monitor's highest resolution, 1280 x 1024, the game could only run out 10.31 frames per second. With the new card the game now plays at 91.95 fps! M

y computer is now twice as loud however (yet still not even half as loud as the xbox).

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

Hey g-kit my Net connection died last night as I tried to change servers. I'll probably be around for a few games this week and Steam Friends seems to be fairly stable these days so I'll look out for you.

i've been thinking about installing this again, i don't know why! I just formatted and saw it there when I set up Steam again. I will probably install it, though, and never play it... and just play more Everyday Shooter and Football Manager and X-COM. I love Steam.

Wow, CS:S thread. Blast from the past. I'm "out of the loop" due to being a L4D freak atm, but I'll come play with you guys sometime. I'm "kittyautomatic" on Steam. Add me n shit. Unless you're a cunt or something.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Friday, 6 March 2009 12:44 (sixteen years ago)

I've been playing gun-game/deathmatch/fy_ maps (sometimes all at once!) for so long that I haven't the patience for 'proper' Counterstrike. I find myself rushing every round, sometimes getting kills, almost always dying, then getting bored waiting for almost 3 entire minutes before I can play again. That the waiting involves reading/hearing a bunch of teenagers calling each other faggots doesn't help.

the innermost wee guy (onimo), Friday, 6 March 2009 12:45 (sixteen years ago)

i managed to get pretty good at gun games and then gave up the game entirely. i hated the knife levels and final nade killing.

the servers i used to play with kit on were good for non-idiots though, can't remember what they were called.

Monkey Brothel ("the Broffle") was still operational last I checked, maybe a month or two ago, although it was empty about 90% of the time and still 33 tick. I still have a few of the old regulars on my Steam Friends list (including the legendary Darramous).

#/.'#/'@ilikecats (g-kit), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

haha, yeah he was on mine for a while too, do you never hear from him?
i don't have steam installed anymore as i only have a laptop with no decent 3d acceleration to play this sort of thing on.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

Sure I hear from him from time to time. He's an amusing chap and a cunt in equal measure. He fitted right in on ILX, which is probably why he was banned.

decided to get back in to 1.6 the other day. Got steam again and downloaded CS:S and it, didn't bother playing then. Today, while ilx was down, but not because of that, I decided to sit about all day playing 1.6 and trying to get back in to the zone. Then I couldn't get in to steam because my password had been changed, I didn't change it. Hijacked a dillion :(

"Hey, We're Clubbing!" (Police Squad) (jim), Thursday, 9 April 2009 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

Obviously this has precipitated a general paranoia about whether I have some key-logger shit going on or whatever, but virus software all up to date and not seeing anything, went on a mad password change spree and keeping tabs on my bank accounts anyway.

"Hey, We're Clubbing!" (Police Squad) (jim), Thursday, 9 April 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

I think they disable dormant accounts or something. This happened to my brother and he had to send Valve pictures of him holding cd-key and a copy of today's newspaper.

ah, but defo not dormant because I was signed in the other day redownloading my games.

When the steam mac client comes out (because I know a lot of you weirdos have macs!?!) we should try organizing some cross-platform ILX gun games. I was playing this over the weekend and it's amazing how many people are out there still shooting away. I'm still terrible at CS:S though :(

Nhex, Friday, 18 June 2010 00:31 (fifteen years ago)

Who's getting this now that it's on Mac? I guess a ton of you already probably own it. Having always kinda sucked at this game, is it (as I suspect) completely dominated by hardcore players nowadays? Nice of Valve to release it on Mac a day early, though the sale is oddly cut down to only two days.

Nhex, Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:33 (fourteen years ago)

The improvements look to be nice (achievements & stat tracking), but right now, some things are broken, like all mods I think - for sure gun games, which is the only mode I really enjoy :(

Nhex - a lot of people still play the game, so there's a mix of skill levels, but yeah, lots of hardcore & it was a pretty hardcore game to begin with - can definitely be a frustrating experience. Some people seem like they've only been playing this game for the last ten years!

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:46 (fourteen years ago)

Some people seem like they've only been playing this game for the last ten years!

I know a couple of guys who have rarely played *any* game other than Counterstrike in ten years. Like they'll buy Wolfenstein and Call of Duty and Battlefield and Medal of Honour every now and then and bash through the single player in a day then try the multi-player for ten minutes before deciding to go back to CS for all time.

My gfx card died on my desktop PC a couple of months back and I've been exclusively using the laptop ever since and haven't got round to getting a mouse and proper keyboard for it so I've only been gaming on my consoles. Once I do I'll hook it up to my HD TV for some big giant CS action, if I can remember how to play it.

I haven't played CS for a few weeks, apparently they've implemented some Xbox style achievement faggotry into it now?

Darramouss, Sunday, 18 July 2010 01:35 (fourteen years ago)

All going to plan, I'll be getting a super duper new PC this weekend!

So I'll be able to hook back onto Steam games, is it now just the hardcore serious CS players that are left playing this. I'm looking forward to my revisit to gun games, but will be upset if my ass gets handed to me constantly.

Guru Meditation (Ste), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 10:14 (fourteen years ago)

Ste - I don't know how much Counter-Strike you've played in the past, but yeah, it's pretty hardcore, especially in the sense that it feels like the majority of people still playing have been playing for the last ten years. Gun Games level the playing field out a bit & tend to be slightly more casual, I guess. There still are A LOT of people playing, Steam stats suggest over 50,000 people a day so you will still run into a mix of skill levels, but there will always be some top players on every server, at least that's what it seems like to me. For example, I'm pretty terrible at CS, and still play from time to time.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 22 July 2010 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

i was really bad at normal games, and only slightly better at gun games but yeah i still played it for hours on end. i'll probly end up more on TF2, and multi theft auto which was frickin hilarious multiplayer stuff.

Guru Meditation (Ste), Thursday, 22 July 2010 14:47 (fourteen years ago)

aaargh can't get this to work. it views the servers (eventually) but clicking on any i just get a server not responding. i thought this might be something to do with my router settings but i managed to get other multiplayer games to work. any suggestions?
