It saves your information on servers, so you can gain ranks and ribbons and stuff. With ranks comes new guns. The game play is (in my opinion) an improvement on 1942 and Vietnam, and the ranking system makes it addictive. I like how the emphasis is on Global Points, which are your kills combined with flag caps, healing points, and teamwork points. I am not great at killing, so I tend to get most of my points by playing Medic or Support. Healing, reviving, or dropping ammo for other players. I started playing in early January, and I am still enjoying the game immensely. I should make Staff Sergeant by the end of the week.

My clan's server IP is "85.236.101.16 port 17173". It's well admined and a friendly place. Hop in and say hello! Avoid the "official" EA servers like the plague - they're completely unadmined and tend to attract tosspots.

Jets aren't too hard to learn (despite the mysterious bullshit and posturing of your jet pilots). Find a load of empty or near empty servers and practice. It's quite relaxing. Be wary that the J-10 is a million times better than all the other jets and trumps any skill level in the other planes. If you want to learn get the J-10 first, then move on to the others or you'll be going down every two minutes and wondering why. If you want some no-brainer jet fun, get in the second seat on the bombers - there's little to it other than point click kill although it can give you motion sickness.

Heli's take a long time to learn. It's one thing being able to keep them airborne, its another thing entirely being able to use them well. You need a good pilot and a good gunner, preferably in communication with each other. Not something you'll find on the average server. Again, try the gunners seat. It's not too difficult to pick up.

I've tried the beta and yeah they added Caspian this week. Hornets return and are a lot easier to fly than choppers.

that's if it runs well enough, i have no desire to pay hundreds of pounds for a new gfx card just yet. The beta ran okayish, struggled slightly on top settings. if i reduced the screen res it was better but there was no screen size below 1920xetc that didn't end up fkcing up the aspect ratio of the screen.

i don't care about resolution, but squashed graphics can go eat my pants.

thing is it is already lag city on Bad company 2 servers with 32 players, how do they think having 64 is going to be any better

the knifing animations on this are kinda extravagant but awesome.. have yet to experience a greater joy than creeping up on an engineer repairing a tank and knifing him in the chest.

I've been playing BF games since BF 1942, and have been playing this one for about a week. Without offering any opinion on whether or not this is a good game, I had a moment after playing a few rounds Saturday night, where I realized I have not really had any fun with this game yet.

- The grind for weapons is miserable: I've picked up enough of other people's kits to know what I am missing. With the weapons I have no, I can't hit anybody more than once or twice from a distance. When I do mange to hit someone, it rarely seems to kill them; most of the time they turn right around and kill me while I am reloading. Yet, I am constantly getting sniped by people I can't see - who aren't even using sniper rifles to do it! I am positive that this is related to body armor, heavy barrels, etc. I am trying to be patient. Experience with BF2 and BFBC2 tells me that it will get better with equipment.

- I hate that these BF games have turned into such long range affairs. I get that this is a byproduct of trying to simulate modern warfare, but it makes me long for the simple days of shitty WWII rifles. Most of the time I don't even see who kills me until the death camera (if the server has it enabled).

- There is absolutely no teamwork. I thought the same thing the first time I played BFBC2: Man, this would be fun with a clan, but it is total chaos without any organization. Both the spotting mechanic, and the ability to spawn on squad members help to some degree, but for the most part it is total chaos with a bunch of angry nerds predictably insulting each others' sexual gender preferences.

I am so over big multiplayer games. I will keep ramming my face against the wall playing this game until I gets fun (if it ever does), just like I did with BC2, but this is the last Battlefield game I intend to buy unless they make some major changes next time around. Bring on Skyrim.

battlefield seems like a stressful game for people that like succeeding at stuff

maybe, but if you mean people who like a 'quick win' then yes.

I really like this game but those criticisms are fair. Matches can be miserable if you're on with a bunch of retards. But I still prefer the team/objective based play compared to the c/d ratio competition that's cod.

well guess what just dropped through the letter box, as well as my new vacuum cleaner which wasn't due until thursday.

so my day off today, and plans arranged, just became filled.

i'm not hardcore enough to make friends and have a headset and form a team and work together to complete objectives, which all sounds super fun. i just log on and play with pubbies and get instasniped 10k times and occasionally shoot a dude. it's entertaining enough for me but for people that give a shit (but not so much of a shit that they do all the hardcore player dude things) it must be really frustrating.

i seem to do okay with crap guns and few addons though. in fact in bc2 i mostly use pins insread of all those scope shit. apart from sniper.

anyway this isnt bad. its got many problems. really dont like the tactical light addition. bbl

supposedly the tactical light is getting fixed in the next patch, which is good

I guess two of the main things to always keep in mind of this game is where youre at in an open position and to not blindly rush out into a situation.. sometimes you cant help it, but once I decided to slow my roll I started to do a hell of a lot better.. learning the maps is a big part of this as well.. I also learned to love the support class and the bipod. If you cant straight up kill anyone the +50 suppression bonus is a nice consolation prize.

how's the 1p on this? i enjoy military shooters but don't have much time for the multi grind

i was highly confused by the gun upgrades in this one at first, i didn't realise they'd returned to providing the two different weapons types for Russia and USA. So I was like 'where the heck has my RPG gone to?'

okay so it behaved itself for the past few hours. got to rank 10 but not without a KD ratio of something quite ridiculous

additions i'm not keen on - prone, tactical light, mortars, hud stuff, maybe a bit too many add ons and kit stuff as i'm totally lost.

but i'll get used to most of those changes i'm sure.

also got this running with the gfx all on high (not ultra) and everything else switched on, and the highest res, and it runs fine.

MW3 too fast, gunplay not as good, maps too cramped w/too many different routes to cover off, worse sound. best thing about MW3 is 60fps

yeah, BF3 takes a bit of time but bloody hell once you start to see all the equipment/vehicles it has to offer I'm starting to be very impressed.

also, on pc, this looks miles better for me at the 1400x720 or whatever it is screen size. only because at full 1920x1080 the menu parts make up a tiny part in the middle of the screen.

And why did they make it so that the chat windows closes right at the end of a game? Now we don't get to call each other noobs, fags and campers when we lose. ah well.

was 7 vs 1, about 190 tickets vs 100. I was in the 7 with 4 other squad mates. decided to switch teams unilaterally so threw a grenade at feet and switched. was then 8 vs 3. we were down to 120/130 tickets vs 60/70 at one point when a squad of level 21, level 13 and level 7 colonels joined at which point we BOSSED it and eventually won by about 20 tickets

haha. i had a moment yesterday with a sniper on those tall cranes. I was trying to snipe him but he was prone and was hidden from my bullets. But in my attempts, his squad members kept spawning on him and so they took my flak. which was nice

Had my best session before, after a trying night of failures, finished with a 20 :5 kd ration. My secret weapon? IR scope, seems like my new favourite toy for finding those sneaky campers.
