i'm slowly crawling thru medium. i have changed my tactics, and am getting much further with the use of many pea shooters, than with just two massively upgraded squirt towers and a dart gun.

managed just over 2000 in normal mode. i see the good way is trying to block the little beggers so they have to move through a maze of towers.

The maze is the only way to do. Try to make them pass each gun at least twice. That way the more you level up your weapons the more effective they are for a longer stretch.

Stevie - if you have an old copy of "Warcraft 3" you can find hundreds of these types of games, they're still very popular on Blizzard's Battle.net servers. Epicwar hosts player-made WC3 maps, search for "tower defense" etc...

You guys are using too much of the grid. You really just need to load most of your guns into the upper left corner and max them out. Then place a few more squirt towers to the bottom and right to help with the flying guys.

Has anyone tried the 100 level challenge yet? I've been doing well on the normal stage (usually 6000 with 5-10 lives left) but the 100 level challenge gives me more trouble even though it appears to be the same thing at the Normal 50, just with an extra 50 tacked on.

Not really. I mostly just use them as filler. I tend to use as many maxed out squirt towers as I can afford and then one or two maxed out dart towers.

something I've found is that unless your set up is hugely powerful and you have a bunch of lives left, you're better off just letting the level 48 spawn bosses go (i.e. sell off a couple pea shooters or whatever (but remember to replace them before level 50) to open a direct path for them to the exits). Otherwise, all you're going to do is just split them up and then not be able to kill all the smaller ones, and you end up losing a ton of lives. They also draw your firepower away from the two flying bosses, which guarantees they'll get by you, too. whereas if you just let the 2 big ones go to start with, you only lose two lives and you can focus everything on the flyers.

What I've been doing (because you care, & I don't wanna work right now):

- set up funnels @ both entrances to push the guys toward the NW corner
- pop up a few pea shooters below the N entrance, centrally located for the FCKING PLANES
- upgrade the middle shooters like a mofo
- expand the maze path (N/S) for the Group mobs
- get 1 or 2 snipers up & running around lvl 20
- build the entire maze (tho I screw up the end parts)
- upgrade more middle shooters to sniper (FKC YOU PLAINS)
- get irked @ lvl 48 when the swarm hits

I've been doing ok with diagonal mazes that push em all up to nw then run them back and forth -- concentrating both where the same towers can hit them then taking them out with some heavily upgraded squirt towers. gave up on the snipers coz the squirts seem a better deal for the gold. then a couple of frosts at the entrances. what's nice about the youtube video is hitting them with the bigger stuff later in the maze lets you push out the waves faster = higher score.

My problem is having central squirt towers/dart towers wasting their time shooting at ground creeps that don't immediately need to be dealt with. I've had no luck on hard with my maze style. My damn job keeps getting in the way of experimentation.

I did max out the air tower and it was really helpful in dealing with the planes and flying bosses. Downside - very expensive. Maxing out the bash towers is pretty useless.

i found a new technique!

if you split the path so that there are two wildly diverging possible paths that later rejoin, the foolish drones follow the shortest path, but then just as they get to where they rejoin you can fill the hole with the basic tower and they TURN AROUND and go back the long way, which means you get another pass at them.

you may even be able to re-sell the blocking tower and get them to turn round, i'm not sure i've tried. but you could keep em trapped back and forth multiple times!

but if you place the diagonals right this can be helpful because it isolates them. spreading them out when you have a fullish maze is useful - cos picking them off one at a time is easier than in a pack.

i just managed to do it by slightly extending my maze in the end. i also abandoned the "funnel them all in from the NW" some time back cos big crowds are hard to pick off and concentrates all the fire locally when all the rest of the screen is inactive. latest method is to lead W lot DOWN to SW corner and N lot EAST to NE corner and then build up a diagonal from SE corner up to NW corner. you can build up a long back and forth maze where they only pass at the half way stage. Also cover S exit so that it's entered from SW corner and E exit so that it's entered from NE corner. filling in the rest of the maze to make it absolutely as long as possible with some dart towers spread out in the middle to get the planes.

f knows how the ppl at the top of the score sheet are getting such high scores tho :-(

I'm still playing this stupid game. Level 65/100 6915 points is the best I've done so far. Tricks that work seem to be:

build as many overlapping diagonal paths across the board as possible.

Build squirt towers in the middle and get 2 or 3 up to top upgrade ASAP

Likewise for swarm towers - I nearly got the 2 big boss flyers w/4 swarms @ quad upgrade.

AAAAAARGH someone stop me from playing it :( :( :( :( it is like crack.

there is a youtube video of someone getting to level 100, but not finishing it. s/he has a huuge cluster of maxed out air-only towers (whatever they're called), and it still wasn't enough to stop all the flying enemies. after watching that, i'm not going to bother trying the 100 again. doesn't even look enjoyable.

Up to about level 65-70, it's enjoyable. Once you get some clusters of maxed-out squirt and swarm towers, it's fun to watch them gang up on the little creeps. After that, it starts sending too many waves in at once, and the whole screen fills up, and it just bogs down into tedium.

I think I've had enough of it now.

you know jeff, i might have to concede victory to you for the normal high score. i don't know if i can squeeze 24 more points out of my maze.

also, which maze have you been using? you apparently aren't the only jeff on DTD, because whenever i click on your name, your score doesn't come up in the maze list. but then again, you probably can't look up your own past mazes/scores either.

have you been using the same maze for awhile now, or do you change it up? do you use juggling?

also, the hard high score is still up for grabs.

i use pretty much the same maze, occasionally placing pieces earlier or moving them closer to the entrances, which can change score dramatically

How on earth did you get as far as level 151? I'm sure it's impossible to get past 105!

That laser beam game is pretty tedious once you've played it a couple of times.

Start with two cannons (C) and a missile (M) very close to each other with space for two more turrets right next to them.. Level up their fire rate at first, especially the missile launcher. Set up a tazer or three, increase their fire rate just outside range of missile launcher. If you have levelled up the three turrets (CCM) you should get a nuke that will fire just as the bunched up bad guys come in to range. Big points v quickly. Set up another missile turret and more tazers. Level up like demon ESPECIALLY fire rate and power, don't sweat the range, in fact limiting the range is the best bet really, it concentrates the firepower into a tighter circle. Add a lazer, level up everything (including range) especially power at first, hopefully you'll get a multi-lazer ball regularly which will help out no end. If you're lucky you'll have time (I never have btw) to build another cell later on the track of the same things. Power up towers are great but it's hard enough levelling up, saving up for them is near impossible.

yowza. i hit about 145 and then it was all over. the combos were taking care of the enemies before they even hit the map until about 130, especially that multi-lazer ball. then all of a sudden the enemies increased in power drastically and it seemed nothing at all could kill them and that was it.

they also updated the graphics some and added at least two new types of enemies, dark and morph. dark are these small, slow dudes, but they are very, very tough and there seem to be a bunch of them. morph will randomly turn into a new type every 5 or so seconds, between regular, dark, immune, and i think that's it. not flying or spawn, thank goodness.

ink tower with freeze combo is pretty decent but really, still, if you wanna take out the air bosses seems that sticking with squirts is the way to go.

I've been looking for a trade off between enough upgraded dart towers to nail the darks and upgraded squirts/swarm towers. My squirts get too busy killing spawns and darks and just let those flying dudes pass unscathed.

I used the squared-off spiral path. 2 cannons/1 rocket launcher at the first corner, 2 lots of 3 tasers before that, 1 laser/2 cannons (a shit combination, TBH) somewhere else. After 140 it just gets stupidly difficult, with the invaders virtually invunerable.

Similar layout, but I made 2 sets of cannon/cannon/rocket launchers. I only got as far as level 176 b/c I knew I was about to get 0wn3d, so I started frantically clicking the "next wave" button. I think it would have been either 155 or 156?
