Cozwn - is that your days job(?)... I saw your post on SRK... or did you find the listing somewhere else? It would be kind of amazing if they released a stick for just a downloadable game. It's so hard to get sticks now, it's really weird (I need a second ps3 one).
― Jeff LeVine, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:14 (sixteen years ago)
I found the listing somewhere else; I expect they're going to cash in on the TE stick hype with every capcom fighting game they have the chance to
― the most naturally gifted poster of his generation (cozwn), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)
Do we think they'll revisit 3rd Strike and/or Alpha next? I wonder if this will have widescreen support or just be a straight port with added online. Probably just a straight port or we woulda heard more about it in advance (I'm fine with blacks bars tho).
― Jeff LeVine, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)
what ive heard from a friend that works there is that darkstalkers is a good bet for getting a revive
― Lamp, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)
this all better be for the PS3 too; MvC2 is probably my favorite non-Smash Bros fighting game ever and I still pine for a TE stick for some reason.

My prediction - MvC 2 will be pretty much exactly the same but with sloppy netcode added on, it'll be the cheapest route (though the game will cost a little more than usual due to extra licensing fees). If Darkstalkers happens (which I am skeptical - I love it but has it even been a huge hit?) they might go ahead and do the HD treatment on it, though this is more likely for an Alpha 3 port (Capcom loves redoing that game over and over again) or 3rd Strike.
― Nhex, Friday, 17 April 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)
darkstalkers sells v. well in japan i think and from what i can gather theres tremendous affection for it w/in capcom - yr right tho that darkstalkers games have sold poorly in na but i dont think that its ever gotten released on a popular console. the darkstalkers ps2 port was japan only?
i dont think the HD treatment is likely tho but a port as dlc seems to be a good bet

the game just looks crazy and kinda unfathomable... in a way tht something like, say, tekken br or kof xii (to name a couple fighters I've never played) just don't
I googled how to play mvc2 and the thread on SRK is just mind-boggling; different teams and different numbers of counter-picks, unfly, SJCs, blocking's not tht important (<--this in itself is esp wtf) etc etc
anyone actually know how to play it on here and can give a beginner's skinny or point to a good guide?

Cozen, MvC 2 is a lot easier than you think, it's just stupid stupid fast and a lot of getting used to dialing. Not saying it's easy to master or a BAD game, but it's not really in the same world as those other games (and IMO not as fun on a higher level). Hell, even compared to earlier vs. games. It's kinda fun... it's candy.

i mean, i think it's probably pretty broken if you actually try and play it 'properly'? i thought the consensus was that it was so goofy (TRON BONNE) that it defeated that kind of thing

― thomp, Wednesday, 22 April 2009 16:40 (sixteen years ago)
this thread made me wonder: to what extent, if any, are people still developing 2D sprite-based fighting games? i mean, now that even street fighter has gone polygonal without finding it necessary to shunt it off into its own little numbering system ghetto i was curious if they were likely to continue happening
or if it'd get like the adventure game community or whatever
― thomp, Wednesday, 22 April 2009 16:45 (sixteen years ago)
honestly, MVC2 is every bit as pick-up-and-playable as something like Smash Brothers; you can pretty much count on making a bunch of crazy shit happening onscreen regardless of whether you're any good or not.

sprite fighters are pretty big in Japan rn: Blaze Blue, Capcom vs. Tsunomoko (or whatever it's called), and the new KOF (I think) are all 2-D IMSMR. I think HD's giving the genre a second wind (unlike adventure games, for some reason. I mean I for one would play the everliving fuck out of a HD Monkey Island).

thought tatsunoko was polygonal. blaze blue looks interesting/mental
i'm not sure why i'm bothered (seeing as most developments fighting-game wise past since sf2 turbo have largely passed me by) but i'm glad people are still bothering
do the polygons in sf4 and other essentially 2d 3d games make a difference mechanically - i mean, do these games use fancy 3d hitboxes in a way that would impact the play much?

KOF XII looks pretty badass. I haven't played an SNK fighting game in like 15 years, so this'll be like a whole new deal. Totally love the 2D HD sprite look.
I don't know how I really feel about MvC2. It's pretty button masher friendly, but I sorta dig the wacky, smash brothers-type thing it's got going on. It's a nice change of pace I guess. It feels a bit cheap and thrown together though, it's basically a Capcom frankenstein monster cobbled together from old games. It's kind of amazing it hangs together at all. There are like a zillion characters and I don't even know how many playable combinations altogether. Plus all of the assist types and play types and whatnot. It's nuts.
And that fucking character select screen music will haunt your dreams. Jesus Christ.

This is why, when Capcom asked me to come test a version of MvC2 with online play, I nearly soiled myself. We went through everything, from well-known glitches to standard combos and tactics, and the gameplay was all there. Certain gamebreaking bugs have been removed, of course (the Gambit glitch, for example) but everything else is intact. Guard breaks, infinites, simultaneous DHCs, unblockables, countering with Assist 2 after a snapout, the Juggernaut glitch…everything that makes MvC2 crazy is still the same. We checked for the problems that plagued the PS2 and Xbox versions (crippling slowdown, the counter-out bug, etc.) and found none. This is the game we all know and love, but prettier.
― Nhex, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 04:19 (sixteen years ago)

I don't have any inside info, but my guess would be if Capcom is gonna do another port it'll be 3rd Strike. I imagine they're going to take a break after this though. But I still have my hopes for Tatsunoko vs. Cap maybe at E3?
Anyhow tried out the limited (no online or single player!) ps3 demo this evening and it seems like a good job. Widescreen support is fine and the game seems to run very smoothly / looks as good as it could look probably. Custom soundtrack support is a godsend!

I didn't get to play very long this morning and didn't get to try out online, but so far it seems like a slick port / runs and looks great. Seeing as I almost paid over $100 US for an inferior version, getting this enhanced version for $15 feels like a steal. Very happy, but yeah, slightly overwhelmed by the learning curve. Basics seem easy, but there's just so much content / just looking at the character select screen is overwhelming

Boring article, but...
But a strong license can do very well, too -- Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is "tearing up," according to Kramer, having surpassed Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix sales within a week and a half.
I'm going to assume they mean it surpassed the weekly sales rate as opposed to completely beating HDR's total sales... but yeah, as easily predicted.

on a stupid fighting tip at the moment, no idea why because i fucking suck at these games. well i suck at most games that aren't gta but still.
so i got MvC3 and the SSF HD remix, crazy hard. Trying the Missions in the former game, so hard to get the combos.
And I can't even get past level 3 on SSF. Not even going to touch multiplayer until i can get some more practice with these.
― remove this man from the internet (Ste), Tuesday, 31 May 2011 13:36 (fourteen years ago)
slow going but am learning these games. i bought SSIV and then was told that they had released SSIV Arcade Edition, ffs.
at least now i know on MVC3 that i can press LMHS hits for combo, and keep doing it for aerial combos too. that's neat.
the supers are really easy on this compared to SSIV, they all seem to be the same. overall i think i prefer SSIV
Missions still hard, but getting there.
