Ha, wasn't that hot in 2007?

I'm looking forward to 1 vs 100.

JimD, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 08:14 (sixteen years ago)

Little Kings Story is amazing.

zappi, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 11:09 (sixteen years ago)

I'm looking at the release list and seriously wondering if I am excited for a single game this year. Like, Raiden Fighters Aces I'll probably get... everything else I am not at all hyped on. At least for 360. It's all "wait and see." Dark Void might be cool though.

I'm kinda hyped for Black Sigil on the DS. And Knights in the Nightmare. If I had a PS3, I'd add that new Pixeljunk game.

I am disappointed with my lack of hype so far.

Qrottytzoppe (Will M.), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

Madworld gives me vague hope for using the wii every so often, so that.

***OSCARBAITS FURIOUSLY*** (jjjusten), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)

well I'm nearly positive that MadWorld, Flower, and The Show '09 will end up on my C&P ballot, plus there's the whole slate of games set to come out this year - M&L3, Fight Night Round 4, Infamous, Muramasa, Prototype, Fat Princess, and PJM PSP just off the top of my head. fuck, that's 10 right there without even listing Peggle DS or Rhythm Heaven or GTA:CW - and any of those three could have made my top 10 for last year.

and then of course there's Pic Pic.

jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

also the sequels to Uncharted and Dead Rising will most assuredly own

jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

I'm currently most hopefully looking forward to Infamous and BlazBlue.

Way too hot on SFIV to care about much else anyway.

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

Psyched for Prototype - I still regularly play Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Is Beyond Good & Evil 2 going to make it out this year or next?

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:33 (sixteen years ago)

I'm putting BG&E on the same timeline as, like, Sin & Punishment 2 (ie I'm confident that we'll actually get it, but we'll get it when we get it nahmean).

also oh yeah, all the fighting games! I wish I had an extra $250 laying around right now; I would totally pick up a TE stick just to take advantage of it (even though I'd probably only use it like five times since I am unmitigated shit at all non-Smash Bros fighting games ever)

also also Wii Sports Resort! god, this year is stacked.

jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:45 (sixteen years ago)

Way too early to be sure, but optimistic about Fuel, Bioshock 2, and Brutal Legend (if it ever actually sees the light of day). cautiously optimistic about Red Dead Redemption, Singularity, I am Alive, and (much to my suprise) Mini Ninjas.

Oh yeah, and in the "already out" category, still really digging House Of The Dead: Overkill for what it is

***OSCARBAITS FURIOUSLY*** (jjjusten), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

Supposedly re: BGE2 most of the production team are working on Rabbids Go Home at the moment, then shifting to BGE2 in autumn. so next winter at the earliest (sob).
Sin & Punishment 2 i can see coming out later this year though. very interested in motionplus games, the tiger woods preview videos look good & i've been really wanting a good wii golf game.
still holding out for Infinite Space this year as well.

zappi, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:54 (sixteen years ago)

Bah! I want BG&E 2 ASAP!

But seriously, too many good games coming out this year. Not that anyone else will try it, but PES 2009 for Wii is outstanding, subtle but definite improvements over the '08 version.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:56 (sixteen years ago)

oh and Assassin's Creed 2!!!!! that could easily end up being a top-5 game for me if they really end up making all the changes they're promising (much like the first one was for me back in 2007).

oh and add skate 2 to the list of contenders. and yes, I want Infinite Space too.

but really, the most amazing thing about this year is that pretty much everything listed so far is known. have there even been any stealth hits this year? My World, My Way perhaps? HotD: Overkill?

jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 18:18 (sixteen years ago)

oh and EyePet this year too! I expect that I'll get at least as much enjoyment out of it as I did out of Noby Noby Boy.

jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 18:20 (sixteen years ago)

also Cave Story on Wiiware. sorry for turning this thread into my own personal Twitter.

jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 18:21 (sixteen years ago)

is my world my way any good?

Long, helmet-defying hair (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't played it so I can't say for certain, but it got a bunch of praise from jrpggots (particularly ones professing a love for wacky non-sequitur-driven Japanese humor).

jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

So far, Big Word Puzzle Book is ridiculously addictive: http://www.ds-scene.net/?s=viewtopic&nid=7512

Long, helmet-defying hair (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 30 April 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

oh shit that looks amazing!

jamescobo, Thursday, 30 April 2009 17:38 (sixteen years ago)

it has a "random" mode with various settings to control how random, how hard, etc.
There's also an oddball ranking system so you can "level up" during play.

Long, helmet-defying hair (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 30 April 2009 17:42 (sixteen years ago)

the individual games aren't anything super special (hangman is hangman is hangman) but they're well delivered (though a bit british; wtf is "lorries" doing in there?) and seemingly endless. this is definitely THE game for an international flight.

Long, helmet-defying hair (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 30 April 2009 17:43 (sixteen years ago)

as a longtime vociferous advocate for Clubhouse Games I am alllllllllllllllllllll about some incredibly rudimentary games packaged in a thoughtful & efficient manner, so yes I'll be buying this ASAP (hopefully it won't be en Francais this time).

whoa! that sounds pretty awesome. can't imagine it won't come overseas, tho.

fyi, you can play imports on a u.s. ds lite. (and maybe others too.)

original bgm, Friday, 1 May 2009 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

actually that would be one of the few games I wouldn't be able to import; the language barrier just seems insurmountable in this case

jamescobo, Friday, 1 May 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

I broke down and finally got a 42'HDtv last night, holy shit.
What are good 360 games to see beautiful images on this thing.

dick having, you know (forksclovetofu), Monday, 4 May 2009 18:06 (sixteen years ago)

you seen Fight Night in HD yet? even like four years on, it's still probably the biggest "whoa" moment of this generation for me so far.

also Assassin's Creed and BioShock and FO3 and all the usual suspects. oh and Rez HD.

jamescobo, Monday, 4 May 2009 18:17 (sixteen years ago)

now i wish i'd waited for bioshock and fallout.
Bio2 and FFXIXIXLXIXL can't get here fast enough.

Fight Night 4 looks even better.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 4 May 2009 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

oh I'm sure it does, but I doubt it's going to have the transformative "$500 for a video game system man that thing better come with a warm hole to put my dick in" -> "well maybe I can afford one if I only eat twice a week for the next three months" effect that its predecessor did.

zinguist (cozwn), Monday, 4 May 2009 22:29 (sixteen years ago)

I think "really good" is a stretch, but the demo was fun. I like that it has some ground stuff, although it's pretty rudimentary.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 4 May 2009 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

zinguist (cozwn), Monday, 4 May 2009 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

literally every new tidbit of information about Infamous makes me want it about a thousand times more. and then they had to go and tack the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta on too!

jamescobo, Monday, 4 May 2009 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

i am so confused by that because having gone back and tried it again to see if i was just out of sorts, that demo was fucking awful. (hint - if you want to win, just be chuck lidell and whack buttons randomly and you will win every time. AWESUM CHALLANGE.) xpost

might be interesting

did i hear someone say sequel to dead rising?

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 08:33 (sixteen years ago)

I am buying Plants Vs Zombies today.

JimD, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 08:53 (sixteen years ago)

Plants vs. Zombies is my favorite game this year thus far.

Planning on pre-ordering Brutal Legend later this week. What I'm looking forward to is primarily the smaller indie or downloadable stuff, and the Boom Blox sequel and Beaterator. I clutch onto the hope that LMNO is still alive.

I wouldn't count out Rabbids Go Home - it seems proper very much in the vein of Rayman 2, and production cycle will have been close to three years by release. (Not to mention BG&E is inappropriately canonized.)

litcofsky, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 09:31 (sixteen years ago)

I'm baffled as to why Popcap games cost twice as much on their own site as they do on Steam. Especially dismayed because at $10 I might've bought it today on Mac...

^^^ srsly u guyz

truncate bliss (Lamp), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

EZ, it was very enjoyable - but it's status as some artistic triumph in gaming is ridiculous, the game is superficial and archetypal.

litcofsky, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 19:12 (sixteen years ago)

Guess we'll have to disagree; I think it is a marvelous Zelda-esque adventure story, with many memorable characters and a world I want to explore further. I didn't find it superficial, nor any more archetypal than any other "hero's quest" story. That's kind of the point, after all.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 19:42 (sixteen years ago)

I liked it but I lost interest after awhile.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 20:02 (sixteen years ago)

Ha, the help screen in plants vs zombies is great, it's just a note which basically says "when zombies come, do nothing. When zombies reach your house, you have won. Love from teh zombies".

JimD, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 12:33 (sixteen years ago)

Fat Princess has finally captured my interest. I wish it was coming out on PC though - on PS3, I doubt it'll get the necessary player base :(

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 7 May 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

OMG plants v zombies has kept me up past 2.30 two nights in a row. $20 seems expensive for a desktop defense clone, but damn is this ever polished. May have to buy.

I’ve seen a lot in my days as an mp3 blogger (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 7 May 2009 06:32 (sixteen years ago)

Isn't is still cheap on steam? I got mine for £7, and got a copy of Heavy Weapons thrown in for free (Heavy Weapons is shite though).

JimD, Thursday, 7 May 2009 08:40 (sixteen years ago)

I was pretty hyped for Prototype until the latest promo video- developer guy goes over all the awesome, innovative missions in their game and it's the same crap we've been seeing over and over since GTA 3. Chase this guy! Find and destroy these objects! Protect this helpless chucklefuck from hordes of enemies and if you fail START ALL OVER AGAIN! Admittedly, I play most sandbox games for an hour or so of Explosion Therapy to unwind after work with the actual story mode a distant second consideration, and Prototype's rampagey bits still look incredibly fun and well-executed, so that takes some of the sting out of it, but Jesus, dev team, don't act like escort missions are the second coming.

Telephone thing, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

Also: the Red Faction: Guerrilla demo is surprisingly great for a game I expected nothing from.

Telephone thing, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)

was not aware of the steam option. I'll be buying tonight.

I’ve seen a lot in my days as an mp3 blogger (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

I briefly played a demo of the new Red Faction at Comic Con last summer and thought it was awful, but now I keep hearing everybody say it's pretty neat + I do like the idea of an open world game set on Mars = think I'm going to finally give it a second shot.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:45 (sixteen years ago)

The demo on PSN/Xbox Live is pretty tightly controlled- time limit, short mission leading into two back-to-back setpieces- so I get the feeling it might not be truly representative of the final product, but what's there is great fun. My only complaimt (aside from the time limit) is that the on-foot shooting controls are a bit iffy, but they're at least functional, and it's much more fun to kill enemies with bombs and trucks and giant robots anyway.

Telephone thing, Thursday, 7 May 2009 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

bit.trip beat is one of the most frustratingly difficult games ever, but somehow i love it. its like a pong version of rez.

zappi, Thursday, 7 May 2009 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

It kills my eyes & the levels are too long, I think. When I finally unlocked the second level I was too beat to even play it. Still, yeah, a cool game, but my eyes go bad even thinking about it.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:09 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I enjoyed my new romp in the Red Faction demo - it has real powerful feel. I didn't mind the on foot shooting at all (360 version). The only possible weaknesses I saw were a.i. related - sometimes the bad guys in the demo are shooting at you from who knows where with frightful accuracy - other times Ive walked up to them, bumped into them from behind and the don't seem to notice until I start shooting? Also confused about the different factions, but imaging the game itself will make it more clear. Love the destruction, even if I wish it was a little less blocky / clunky. Really loved the mech section! Will wait for reviews, but if the game presents enough variety (weapons / missions) and doesn't have too many bugs, the new demo has definitely put it on my radar. Unfortunately it's currently scheduled in kind of a packed section of the year w/ at least Infamous, BlazBlue, King of Fighters 12 & Marvel vs. Capcom 2 all probably knocking it out of my budget.

Does Rad Faction still have a multiplayer component?

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 8 May 2009 03:58 (sixteen years ago)

Doesn't Dragon Age: Origins come out this year?

Mordy, Friday, 8 May 2009 06:36 (sixteen years ago)

BG&E2, if that's what it is, looks good but fairly anonymous.

cod:mw2 up in this thread obv

zinguist (cozwn), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:03 (sixteen years ago)

+1 on MW2; I loved CoD4 despite being inexcusable shit at it, but I gave it up once the PS3 version turned out to be the least of all possible worlds.

and yeah, the demo's really fun (if absurdly limited). there are a bunch of alleged issues w/ the final game (only 10 recorded nicknames and a max weight limit of 235 pounds [when the current IRL champ weighs like 265 right now] for CAW being the biggest one) but it's really obvious from the way the game plays that the devs liked FNR3 almost as much as I did. also the single-player mode is supposed to be surprisingly deep & engaging.

jamescobo, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

Plants vs. Zombies worth bringing up again as a GotY candidate; certainly best thing out so far.

forks:

enjoying plants vs zombies but doesn't seem that different from any free (desktop tower defence) or very cheap (geo-defense for iphone, which i've spent HOURS on) or cheapish (pixeljunk monsters, which i've also spent hours and hours on) game in the genre. is there any particular reason i should "fork" over $20 for it? from the demo it doesn't seem any better than the three i just mentioned.

never knew glass joe was french

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Thursday, 14 May 2009 14:39 (sixteen years ago)

s1ocki, I don't think you're wrong really, the core game in PVZ is a very good example of its genre but nothing more than that. But there's an enormous selection of minigames/puzzle modes/mini-tamagotchi-type-plant-cultivation games, etc etc which open up once you've beat the main adventure mode, and I think it's the combination of those with a perfectly good tower defence game that makes the overall package great.

JimD, Thursday, 14 May 2009 20:20 (sixteen years ago)

Zen Garden is worth the PVZ price of admission alone.

Mordy, Thursday, 14 May 2009 20:33 (sixteen years ago)

ufc getting very well reviewed btw

zinguist (cozwn), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

The Ghibli game comes with a book apparently, which ties into the gameplay somehow. Clever bit of anti-piracy maybe, but no doubt it's going to mean GORGEOUS PACKAGE too.

JimD, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

I'm actually going to hold off on getting UFC until it's like $30ish; it's fun to play but since everyone I know got it for 360 instead of PS3 I'm in no rush. besides, this is an exponentially more pressing concern.

been picking up some good bargain bins lately: battlefield bad co., kane & lynch. got my eye on call of juarez too. what other 7/10s are now worth £10?

I know Valkyria Chronicles was selling at like $30 a few weeks ago - I'm not smart enough for strategy games but it's been getting deafening praise since it came out.

Gladiator A.D. is not a traditional 3D fighting game. It's more of a hybrid between 3D Fighting games like Bushido Blade and Boxing games like Fight Night.

passed on the lead in "all i can do is crossups cuz ihave no skills" (jamescobo), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 03:08 (sixteen years ago)

I mean someone still needs to be making an actual Bushido Blade for the Wii but that's my interest piqued right there.

As I wrote on t'other thread... Plants v. Zombies. Does this game get hard, ever? Am on to stage four and I think I've let two a grand total of two zombies through, pretty much by accident. I have 2000+ sun power left at the end of every game.

not "hard" per se. wait for the minigames/survival stuff.

yeah, it's pretty much great so far (although I haven't turned up the "guess what word the DS is thinking of" game yet). feature set is just insane; it's gonna be sad when quirky little games like these go digital distribution and stop feeling compelled to come up with a cartridge full of content.

say one thing for EA: they really know how to build a HUD for sports games: the little news ticker, ESPN updates etc are dope

I kno their games are quite often like menu sims bt I don't mind cos they give u lots of settings. love me settings

cozwn, Friday, 26 June 2009 15:24 (sixteen years ago)

do you have any tips jc?

cozwn, Friday, 26 June 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)

not really, I'm still getting used to the controls. I tend to be a bobbing-and-weaving-ass dude so I'm having a little trouble adjusting; also four years of FN3 have conditioned me to preload the haymaker so I'm kind of struggling now that they've changed the mechanic. the game's still great, of course; it's just a matter of acclimating myself to the new game balance and training minigames. still rules, though.

so satisfying counter punching someone. like most things on live: playing randoms is obnoxious but playing folx off yr friends list is heaps of fun

a+++ recommended imo

oh hells yeah the FN3 stick controls are an alternate scheme! okay, I should be playing this a whole lot more once I get all my sliders properly set. that just leaves the shitty training games and barebones corner interface.

Guys, I was rocking out 1v100, like #3 out of the entire group, when the game just dumped me back into my 360 dashboard and when I logged back in, I was at 0 points again. FAIL.

So has anyone tried Blood Bowl yet?

Telephone thing, Sunday, 28 June 2009 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

i am baws rank at this fight night, i can't do anything except just button bash. If I try and dodge or block I just get cuffed. Only done a few fights, but can't get into it at all.

the shock will be coupled with the need to dance (jim), Sunday, 28 June 2009 20:30 (sixteen years ago)

Blood Bowl is one of the most shoddily made games i have ever played. the presentation is embarrassing, the interface sucks and it's buggy. everything about it has the cheap ring of a tin plate. however the gameplay is just passable enough that with the assistance of a huge dollop of nostalgia i am loving it.

special guest appearance (Roberto Spiralli), Sunday, 28 June 2009 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

oh yeah loved me some blood bowl growing up :D

cozwn, Sunday, 28 June 2009 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

jim let's fight on fn, u can beat me up cos I am gash

I had a fight last night w/these stats

opponent (hagler)
score: 98
total punches: 566/942 (60%)
counter: 7/10
knockdowns: 2

coz (robinson)
score: 90
total punches: 392/593 (66)
counter: 62/90
knockdowns: 0

I know he landed more punches thn me but I wsn't just spamming jab but looking for opportunities, blocking and countering. look at his counter stats vs mine. but he totally raped me on scoring. :(

cozwn, Monday, 29 June 2009 11:50 (sixteen years ago)

right cool, i'll give it an evening tonight (want to actually learn to block and dodge) and play you some time tomorrow.

so i am been keeping on keeping on with Blood Bowl and the good stuff is showing through more and I have become gradually inured to the crap stuff so it is now a high quality game experience. the online mp is a bit weird to figure out at first but i haven't had a single problem with connecting or finding a game, and it seems like a decent community of players, if you are okay with a bunch if frenchies dominating proceedings. in summary: WOULD RECOMMEND
