who's your team? my phils are 36-27-2 (lol ties), ranked 2nd behind florida. my most dependable pitcher is javier vazquez. I am sad that roy halladay can't be upgraded anymore after reaching level 3.

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:32 (fifteen years ago)

my phils are currently 68-45-1, first place and heading soon into the playoffs

Mordy, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:34 (fifteen years ago)

What's the deal with New York N + New York A? What are those letters supposed to stand for?

Mordy, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:34 (fifteen years ago)

national and american? one's the yanks and the others the mets.

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:35 (fifteen years ago)

That makes sense!

Mordy, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:36 (fifteen years ago)

Notice how some of the players like Manny Ramirez + Ruiz are represented by super white looking avatars at bat? Lulz to be had.

Mordy, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:37 (fifteen years ago)

yeah they don't exactly have the best selection of avatars? everybody's really fat and their bats all have teal lightning bolts on them.

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:46 (fifteen years ago)

Am the nymets...15-16 currently but just coming off a 6 game win streak

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

Also, someone explain leveling up guys pls? Havnt been doin that

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)

you can use the points you win for achievements to level up your guys (gives modest increases per stats).

I think your dudes will level up naturally just by playing enough games, but you can always speed up the process by using the card levelup option. however it's not always successful and you can end up wasting a lot of points, especially if you are trying to upgrade a dude who is a Rare or Hero card. generally I try to keep all my guys at level 3 or above.

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

The dilemma I struggle with is whether or not to invest points in leveling up "normal" dudes. Like, I play as the Cardinals so I have Pujols. But he's "normal" Pujols, so I'd hate to level him up big time if I'm just going to find a rare version later.

Z S, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:25 (fifteen years ago)

I found a rare version of Ryan Howard and he's great (but statwise not that much different than regular Ryan.)

anybody chanced upon Lance Berkman yet? does he look like a pallid bloated corpse to anyone else?

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:26 (fifteen years ago)

(also 9 innings won't let me play normal Ryan Howard and rare Ryan Howard at the same time. ;_;)

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:27 (fifteen years ago)

One question: you know how some of your players will have little traits ("slugger", "clutch", etc)? Are the stat boosts that come from those traits reflected in the stats you see on the back of the card, or are they on top of the stats?

Z S, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:28 (fifteen years ago)

the fate of the world rests on this answer!

Z S, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:29 (fifteen years ago)

I've got a golden Ryan Howard (don't remember the name for that quality, but I think it's the highest level) and he's a monster hitter.

Mordy, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:31 (fifteen years ago)

there are 'tips' that display while the game loads but most of the time the game loads too quickly for me to read them. I feel like they hold the key.

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:32 (fifteen years ago)

^yea I hate those are so fast

I think John lannan has shut me out twice

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 August 2010 03:43 (fifteen years ago)

playing as the Tampa Bay Rays (GO YOU RAYS). beating the dogshit out of the rest of the league but still somehow 4 games behind the fukkin Yanx in the AL East. got a golden Stephen Strasburg and he's maybe the best card in the game - 100s for control & power, 5 bars for all 4 pitches, like 80 endurance, etc. also drew a rare Jeter today but my infield owns (Cantu, Barmes, Sandoval, & Aaron Hill [who is inexplicably leading the league in home runs]) so we'll see. God help us all if the next version adds the ability to trade cards between players.

the Xbox 360 controller, which looks like a catamaran (jamescobo), Thursday, 26 August 2010 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

daaaaaaaaaaang, how many games in are you? I have a few players with stats like that (Brian Roberts, Ryan Braun), but I'm only 20 games in.

Z S, Thursday, 26 August 2010 04:32 (fifteen years ago)

jesus christ

GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Thursday, 26 August 2010 06:02 (fifteen years ago)

have no platinum dudes ;_; hate it when you get a special card of a shitty player

dayo, Thursday, 26 August 2010 07:19 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, I've been buying upgrades. Too many.

Jeff, Thursday, 26 August 2010 12:05 (fifteen years ago)

Drawing a lot of gold cards and combining a lot of cards.

Jeff, Thursday, 26 August 2010 12:06 (fifteen years ago)

The rest of my team isn't that spectacular. I can't seem to get good cards for SS and LF. Haven't really bothered with the bench. What sucks with combining cards is that I'll combine 3 gold cards and get another stupid fucking coach that I already have. Or an ugly cheerleader.

Whoops, catcher is McCann

Jeff, Thursday, 26 August 2010 12:21 (fifteen years ago)

Do ppl use inning jumps? Are they exactly what I think they are?

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 August 2010 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

I use them when I'm getting totally blown out, like 10-0 after two innings or something.

Z S, Thursday, 26 August 2010 19:26 (fifteen years ago)

I use inning jumps when all my pitchers are redlining and I can bear to watch.

Jeff, Thursday, 26 August 2010 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

fucking minnesota took 2 out of 3

dayo, Friday, 27 August 2010 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

who is this joe mauer fellah and how can I get him to play for me

dayo, Friday, 27 August 2010 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

Bought this based on the love shown here though I don't really follow MLB. My Orioles (good team?) are a dismal 5-13 but I've only just figured out the card system so things can only get better.

sofatruck, Friday, 27 August 2010 01:05 (fifteen years ago)

My Orioles (good team?)

http://i17.tinypic.com/6ptj2ua.gif

Z S, Friday, 27 August 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

damn.

sofatruck, Friday, 27 August 2010 01:08 (fifteen years ago)

haha, although who knows, maybe the skill of the teams doesn't line up with real life. I'm playing as the Cardinals and when I picked them they didn't seem to be rated as highly as I thought they should be.

Z S, Friday, 27 August 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

I started with Chicago N. I don't think I have any of the original players left since I replaced Theriot today.

Jeff, Friday, 27 August 2010 02:17 (fifteen years ago)

changed a coach/cheerleader card out for one with BAT POW + 3 and hit 3 homers in a row next time out

I think the BAT EYE stat increases the probability you make contact and/or hit it to a favorable position on the field? not sure though

what's the stat next to running speed for fielders? kind of looks like a glove. is that the fielding stat?

dayo, Friday, 27 August 2010 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

it's the fielding stat, yep.

there are a lot of unexplained stat increases...for example, my brad lidge is BUDDHA, iirc, but I have no idea how that actually affects anything

Z S, Friday, 27 August 2010 13:58 (fifteen years ago)

Resilient in the face of batters hitting on him I think

Mordy, Friday, 27 August 2010 13:59 (fifteen years ago)

Just realized that despite my bottom of the league standing, my team actually leads the league in batting average. My pitching is dismal.

sofatruck, Friday, 27 August 2010 14:01 (fifteen years ago)

is there a point to getting cards of people I don't give a shit about?

bnw, Friday, 27 August 2010 23:54 (fifteen years ago)

just wondering if I am supposed to do something exciting with my jerry manuel card

bnw, Friday, 27 August 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

I combine all cards that I don't give a shit about in hopes that something good will turn up. HATE when I combine like 3 rares and it gives me another stupid coach.

Jeff, Friday, 27 August 2010 23:56 (fifteen years ago)

what are the best coach cards? I have a cheerleader and a coach who give Point +4%. so technically I should be up 8%. but I don't know how that actually works.

also I figured out the best strategy in batting is to swing at every pitch. it sucks when the computer wises up to it and you end up at swinging at four intentional balls.

dayo, Saturday, 28 August 2010 02:44 (fifteen years ago)

I got a gold pujols card. Whats up now bitches.

mayor jingleberries, Monday, 30 August 2010 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

Beaten by an extra inning mo rivera DOUBLE and in the following game facing halladay and he goes 4-4 is some "y am I even playing this" level bs

johnny crunch, Monday, 30 August 2010 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

verlander got lit up by the braves for 5 runs today and it's even worse cuz I'm playin as the phils :(

dayo, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 05:40 (fifteen years ago)

okay so my last couple of games have followed this pattern:

-reds jump out to 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st, even though I was careful to pitch around the strike zone using my best aces etc. etc.
-reds pitcher with stats below 70 shuts me out
-I have nerd rage

also don't forcibly try to upgrade your players. if it fails, let it be. if you try too many times it limits their max level. ryan howard will now never achieve level 6.

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

same here. My stl cards season is sadly mirroring the real stl cards season - I somehow got swept by the astros, I can't seem to break 4 runs in a game lately, and 90% of my hits are weak dribblers to second base.

Still, I'm somehow 19-14 or so.

Z S, Thursday, 2 September 2010 00:33 (fifteen years ago)

also my plan to pump up the BAT EYE stat was not so successful. I got all my players up to above 83 (some above 90) but that didn't translate to more hits. maybe I should stick with it for a few more games.

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 00:36 (fifteen years ago)

btw 1.04 is out featuring a new 'Modified team roaster'

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:13 (fifteen years ago)

Uh, this new update is buggy. I can start any league games without the app crashing. And I can play home run mode but the damn thing keeps vibrating even though I have it turned off in the settings.

Jeff, Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:31 (fifteen years ago)

argh yeah i cant start any games in league mode either. good way to go cold turkey I guess

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:51 (fifteen years ago)

...so you're saying I should not update to the latest version!

Z S, Thursday, 2 September 2010 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

Correct. Unless you would like a clean break.

Jeff, Thursday, 2 September 2010 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

on the plus side, if history is any indication they'll give everyone who got fuxored out of progress a shitton of points/level up cards/increase rate cards/inning jump cards/etc. in the next update. I still haven't spent all the points they gave me for updating to 1.01 yet.

GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

so uh 9 innings is avaialble for ipad now too. :<

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Friday, 3 September 2010 01:14 (fifteen years ago)

yes but you don't need to buy it twice; it's a universal app

GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Friday, 3 September 2010 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

:OOOOOO

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Friday, 3 September 2010 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

I suck at this game and swing at every pitch.

bnw, Friday, 3 September 2010 04:15 (fifteen years ago)

I still pretty much do. It won't hurt you that much. I still usually get 8 to 10 runs a game.

Jeff, Friday, 3 September 2010 13:55 (fifteen years ago)

the computer pulled a fuckin SUICIDE SQUEEZE on me last game

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 September 2010 17:39 (fifteen years ago)

haha yeah the computer tried to do that to me too. I really like the idea that when the programmers made the game they followed some sort of idealistic 'the way baseball SHOULD be played' manual instead of how it is actually played in the majors

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Saturday, 4 September 2010 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

Still no update ://///

Jeff, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 12:01 (fifteen years ago)

2 straight come-from-behind-in-the-9th-inning wins in the last two days! my neighbors heard me yelling from outside last night when I hit a walkoff homer to beat the loathesome and detestable Yanx.

GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Thursday, 9 September 2010 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

Update is out.

Jeff, Friday, 10 September 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

ANOTHER walkoff win!

GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Friday, 10 September 2010 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

d'you guys have like whole lineups of platinums? only good 1 i have is adam wainwright. have a hero mauer & just got a special pujols.

sorta like that it resembles real life in that it's really hard (at least for me) to sweep a 3 game series. my team is still hovering around .500 after like ~80 games

johnny crunch, Saturday, 11 September 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

this is on sale for a buck right now, buy it or go make other people buy it or just do fuckin SOMETHING

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 22 October 2010 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

is there a double switch option that i'm not seeing?

fuck a draw btw

pitchers' batting skills seem to be overinflated imo

i have no idea what to do with cards btw, halp.

i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Friday, 22 October 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)

Another thing I noticed (lol lunchbreak) is that I can't find my DH available to hit off the bench (I'm using an NL team). Does that make sense? Like the DH is unavailable as a PH unless it's an interleague/playoff game?

i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Friday, 22 October 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

another newbie q - is every batter a switch hitter?

also not sure what the two gloves with arrows between them means, when you're on defence

I am terrible at baserunning, also terrible at throwing out base stealers

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 23 October 2010 18:12 (fifteen years ago)

ive never thrown out a baserunner; it's sorta 1 of the benefits of sometimes using an innings jump cuz the computer will throw some out

johnny crunch, Sunday, 24 October 2010 01:17 (fifteen years ago)

i assume you don't collect points for shit that happens in autoplay

thanks for the tutorial link, shasta!

still have no idea how to actually get cards into my lineup

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 25 October 2010 11:48 (fifteen years ago)

I have a 17 game win streak

getting pujols pushed me over the top I guess

dayo, Monday, 25 October 2010 13:09 (fifteen years ago)

ok i figured out the cards... SHEESH.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 25 October 2010 15:38 (fifteen years ago)

well mostly - i have won cards that are visibly in my box, but mysteriously don't show up as options when i go to swap them in. ??

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 26 October 2010 09:26 (fifteen years ago)

so when a player has like "+11" on his card what does that mean? i'll get like a Special card of somebody with +11 but then his stats on the back are crap.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 26 October 2010 11:45 (fifteen years ago)

I think the +11 (or whatever number) is just experience. So you can draw the card of an experienced loser, it doesn't necessarily mean they're any good.

Z S, Tuesday, 26 October 2010 11:51 (fifteen years ago)

Same with special, rare, etc - you can draw the "special" form of a really shitty player (in fact, you will, repeatedly)

Z S, Tuesday, 26 October 2010 11:53 (fifteen years ago)

And the point of a Special or Rare card is that you can level it up more?

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 26 October 2010 12:05 (fifteen years ago)

TBH it seems like level-ups really don't increase the stats that much.. seems worth it to just wait for a better card to be awarded to you, or create one.

I have a feeling this would all make more sense if I'd ever played Magic The Gathering.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 26 October 2010 12:08 (fifteen years ago)

You can level them up more, yep, I think. The problem is that it's also more expensive to level them up, which is totally annoying.

Z S, Tuesday, 26 October 2010 12:48 (fifteen years ago)

I just buy all the extra points.

Jeff, Tuesday, 26 October 2010 12:54 (fifteen years ago)

What do you mean?

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 26 October 2010 13:00 (fifteen years ago)

Leave my points alone!

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 26 October 2010 16:14 (fifteen years ago)

If you go to the card box, then shop you can do an in app purchase of more points. 150000 for 7.99. Also get packs of level up and combo cards.

Haha there should be like a salary cap or something

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 12:31 (fifteen years ago)

protip: since there is no defensive substitution, if a defensively weak player gets on base later in the game, sub him with a pinch runner who will also take his spot in the field. not as intuitive but does the trick.

i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

i have done that!

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

i also am stealing bases at will - i take off whenever the fuck i feel like it. been thrown out like once. it fucks with my swing though. i haven't come close to throwing anyone out myself, so i guess it evens out.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:53 (fifteen years ago)

i can't steal bases but then again my team's avg running speed is like a D. I am 19-15 in my season so far and that puts me wayyyy back in third place in the AL east (BOS is like 25-8 already and NYY are not far behind them) (I picked the Jays because Canada... bad call I suppose) (not that it makes a difference because I just get cards and replace my whole team except Hill, Wells and Lind)

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Saturday, 30 October 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

i'm first in batting and ERA and wayyy near the bottom in RBI and every other metric. basically it's my shitty baserunning, same reason i have 12-hit games where i score 2 runs. i'm hovering around .500.

i dunno what other folks' strategies are but any cards i get that are worse than my current lineup i combine whenever i get the chance, in the hopes of getting a better one.

still no idea how to "boost" the combining process.

i've bought exactly one booster, for 2000 points, and it was crap. basically just keeping my dudes, all at level 3, and hoping for some good luck on the card front. card levelup seems kind of pointless when thousands of points gain you one measly point of stat improvement. i've got a manager who gives me plus 5% so that seems pretty good..

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 30 October 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

i am currently killin it - got a complete game out of beckett last night

question: you guys are playing on "normal" right? i am, but i'm sort of wondering if maybe it's too easy. i went through the twins like a scythe through sausage

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 5 November 2010 11:45 (fifteen years ago)

I'm playing on hard, it got really easy after my lineup got stacked

dayo, Friday, 5 November 2010 12:34 (fifteen years ago)

I feel maybe they cut the difficulty down in the latest update? i dunno though I split my time between trainyard and drop7 these days

dayo, Friday, 5 November 2010 12:34 (fifteen years ago)

hmm I guess I'm stuck. just won a 2-1 squeaker. if I keep winning everything guess I'll need to start over on hard.

it chafes my goolies that player cards don't indicate rightie or lefty!! fuck

also that I can't check a baserunner's speed rating

any opinions on which coaches or cheerleaders are worthwhile? no idea what the diff is between "card +3%" and "stat +3%" tbh

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 5 November 2010 14:23 (fifteen years ago)

you can check a baserunner's speed rating, it's on the card

I use the batting cards, bat CON and bat EYE, think bat EYE increases your chances of getting hits? dunno

dayo, Friday, 5 November 2010 14:28 (fifteen years ago)

once the dude's on base his card isn't available though

pretty sure CON is likelihood of contact and EYE is likelihood of extra-base hit

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 5 November 2010 14:31 (fifteen years ago)

where is the setting for normal/hard ? am into my 2011 season and my roster is p stacked, 11-2 so far but 3 of those are either walk-off or extra inning wins. is hard considerably harder?

johnny crunch, Friday, 5 November 2010 17:22 (fifteen years ago)

The setting for normal/hard only appears when you're first setting up your league season.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 8 November 2010 11:43 (fifteen years ago)

hate hate HATE that you can't tell if someone's a rightie or leftie by looking at their card

still haven't thrown anyone out

after a storming start to my season (18-4) the pendulum is starting to move the other way - toronto has handed me my ass in back to back games. i got c.c. sabs somehow but he lasted two innings.

lolz the other night when a 100mph fastball blew by me, thrown from the immortal grip of... darren oliver

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 12 November 2010 11:06 (fifteen years ago)

Tracer, do you think you're overstating the importance of LH/RH batters vs. RH/LH pitchers? Cuz if you pay attn to the player "attributes", you'll see some LH that are "lefty killers" and vice versa and of course the natural reverse which is intuitive (esp for you!). I think the game really doesn't dole out the advantage the way it occurs in real life. I've hit some of my longest, clutchiest, Jeterrific homeruns with LH batter facing LHP and vice versa, so much that I stopped even paying attn to it.

haha yeah i guess i shouldn't give a shit about that! especially when i'm able to play pedroia at 1B with no loss of fielding stats

the game is definitely catching up with me. getting some tough games these days. submarine relievers are killin me.

for some reason i always find myself playing the orioles. the phrase "suggest ban matt wieters" comes to mind frequently.

ILX, long time no talk. you ruined my life by introducing this addictive nonsense to me.

my batting & pitching:

AND A QUESTION... I got this card at some point, my team is Toronto btw (not that you can tell from that lineup) and I got this... Aaron Hill card? The stats are nearly identical to my original, position's the same, and yet it says he plays for the Cubs and the picture is someone else. Who is the picture? WTF is going on?

first season teixeira i got like halfway thru and he still dominated the HR charts, like 61 total? 10 ahead of the next guy. awesome. wolf has been way more dominant than his stats might make you think on account of being a lefty and a right-killer. haven't used kershaw yet, got him during the world series and he was on the rest-day in rotation for the first run of the second season (i am only 5 games into season 2). does the game get way harder when you hit season 2, btw?!

lolz the other night when a 100mph fastball blew by me, thrown from the immortal grip of... darren oliver

i have had several 105mph heaters thrown for my team by matt cain...????????

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Thursday, 25 November 2010 00:50 (fifteen years ago)

nah it's not harder in season 2 (tho mine is still on easy -- if they let u upgrade btwn seasons go for it, i cant recall if it did or not)

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 November 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

also WOW & TEX's 117 power. never seen that card

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 November 2010 01:11 (fifteen years ago)

^that should be wow @

how u have so many dope platinums my best 1 is like mike cameron

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 November 2010 01:22 (fifteen years ago)

o i guess ur already in seas 2

im like ~ 45-12-1 seas 2

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 November 2010 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

good cards from: 1. luck 2. paid money like an asshole 3. my coach is an upgraded +card% (right now at +9%). I think most of my plats are from homeruns and shit like that. Also gaming for points over stats ie. robbing myself saves to let a starter finish a game, etc. Also last season I had a million blowout games. Should mention that I have a cheerleader w/ +5 bat CON which is why everyone's CON is like 999999999

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Thursday, 25 November 2010 02:02 (fifteen years ago)

in fact except for grienke i think i got every plat there in-game, never ever get anything good from combine, or draw

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Thursday, 25 November 2010 02:03 (fifteen years ago)

I never do anymore. Seriously, I draw a gold card and it's like 30 points in various categories below my current guys.

Jeff, Thursday, 25 November 2010 02:04 (fifteen years ago)

exactly, the good thing is that this season i'll basically not change a single player.

people should go into the player rank and make the second field ILX or something, so we can compare "scores" whatever the f they mean!

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Thursday, 25 November 2010 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

err, why it's good i am not changing players: top of all of the player ranks. last year i only had one guy in top ten Ks because almost my whole pitching squad had a half-year of catchup to play. did we ever figure out how to use EXP?

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Thursday, 25 November 2010 02:25 (fifteen years ago)

i have no idea.. i guess i assume that EXP bumps up your stats?

anybody ever figure out how many inning skips it takes to reduce your EXP for that game?

the other day i pinch-ran for my starting pitcher, and in the bottom half of the inning.. there he was on the mound! huh? maybe that's some kind of s. korean rule?

i think howie kendrick has to have the best player photo (although i am partial to josh beckett's come-hither, kenny powers-esque pose)

one of the "pro tips" that stayed on the screen long enough for me to read it: "difficulty of first 20 games has been adjusted"

that makes a lotta sense to me - i rocketed to the top of the league but the games are much harder now. i also just recently played my first NIGHT game.. ooh!

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 November 2010 13:42 (fifteen years ago)

i have to say the difficulty curve is very very well done - as you get better, the opposition does too

btw Will M. the real way to rack up points is the real man's way - by playing Homerun Mode for like three hours straight til you can't see

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:58 (fifteen years ago)

I will try this Tracer! So much HR mode!

Also, Matt Cain gold card is consistently throwing fastballs north of 110MPH. INSANE

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

HR mode SO ADDICTIVE

finally realized that the timeout menu lets you see the speed of your baserunners, i.e. "Dash - D" or "Dash - B"

The computer is getting crazy good now (around middle of the season I guess.. sky has turned dark orange).. hardly ever swings at anything outside the zone and punishes me if I throw in the zone and don't get my pitching circle down to the minimum

Am I right in thinking that pitcher POW is becoming the most relevant stat?

Better luck next time ...

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

i liked HR mode so much i bought Homerun Battle 3D and... i don't really get it

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 15:43 (fifteen years ago)

idg HR mode - how can I use some of my power hitters? jimmy rollins loses and then it's game over

yeah the latest update seems to mean that the games are getting harder. but it still seems I win pretty easily, and yes I do have a POW +4 coach card or something like that.

steendriver DUMB BIG, his HOOS got HOOS (dayo), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

you can't. you have to use your lineup in order. i've gotten to the 5th guy in the order once, i think. usually i puke out on #3. the pitchers get nastier too, throwing out of the zone sometimes..

i reallllly don't get the diff between coaches who are "card +5" and coaches who are "points +5"

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 00:23 (fifteen years ago)

i mean HR Mode is totally idiotic - i feel like a pavlovian dog or something - but after a tense game it feels so sweet to just bash em out of the park

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 00:24 (fifteen years ago)

points + 5 means you earn 5% more points for all your achievements, I think

kinda worthless

I really hate how when you fail at a levelup, it takes away one level from the max level of a guy.

steendriver DUMB BIG, his HOOS got HOOS (dayo), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

i still have no idea why a platinum card is any better than a normal one. i see the same number of little level lozenges at the bottom. and normal cards are a hell of a lot cheaper to level up.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)

I've started just skipping all pitching innings. Just got too bored with it.

I've enjoyed homerun battle 3d. Although I always get me ass kicked in multiplayer.

Jeff, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)

Jeff I will admit to skipping most pitching innings as well but I often regret it - I'm a better pitcher than the computer. I never walk guys, for instance.

Something that has been infuriating me is that I can't count on doing a hit-and-run - even if the ball is right over the plate, the game often won't "let" me swing at it.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 10:16 (fifteen years ago)

got handed my first ass whooping after 20 or so games of easy wins, by the 1st ranked la nats (aka dodgers)

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

i reallllly don't get the diff between coaches who are "card +5" and coaches who are "points +5"
Points +5: each achievement gives you an additional 5% more points. Not really worth it.
Card +5: A +5% chance to get a card on any achievement. I don't nkwo if it actually works but I have a leveled-up Card+9 coach on alllll the time and I get a LOT of cards. I like it like that.

i still have no idea why a platinum card is any better than a normal one. i see the same number of little level lozenges at the bottom. and normal cards are a hell of a lot cheaper to level up.
They usually start with higher stats, and have 3 special abilities incl. one super-special ability (eg. slugger, prophet, etc). I have had some green cards better thna gold of the same player though, and red better than green, etc. It seems like it randomizes A) what stats it makes better and B) what powers the players get.

got handed my first ass whooping after 20 or so games of easy wins, by the 1st ranked la nats (aka dodgers)
As you get better players this happens less, I sucked from games 21-50 or 60 or so, then my team started to be awesome.

FART MAGNET STUDIOS IS SCREWING US AGAIN!!!1!1!!!1!! (jamescobo), Friday, 10 December 2010 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

one month passes...

further:

- the difference in style between difft pitchers is terrific. some curveballs loop slowly in, others snap tightly.

- the stealing mechanic should actually work; as it is, it's just chance

- defensive substitutions, please!

- stamina depletion of opposing relievers, please! it's not fair that my guys' tiredness lasts through to the next game, but their guys magically "heal" overnight. it takes away one of the great strategic satisfactions of baseball: wearing down the relief corps so that the next day your opponent's no. 5 starter gets left in the game too long

- it is a bit too easy. i'm now into the next season (2011) and i didn't get a chance to switch it up to "hard"

- i love how in the world series everyone seems to play a bit better

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 13 January 2011 12:24 (fifteen years ago)

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 12:17 (fifteen years ago)

I can see their guys stealing from a mile away but only average about a 33% throwout rate.

lol at manny's avatar being a thin white guy, also my team doesn't seem to do good against the first ranked teams. wondering if I should try to get more green/gold cards. I roll with mostly blue cards with good stats (a lot of cats over 100) but I wonder if that's what's holding me back. if so fuck em cause I'm not gonna give em money to gamble for good players.

dayo, Friday, 14 January 2011 12:31 (fifteen years ago)

first ranked teams ARE harder. i look forward to them, though, it's the only time i get a really good challenge.

i'm amazed at your 33% throwout rate - i have literally thrown out ONE GUY in my entire 9 innings career.

i have a couple of sweet gold cards but the rest are blues and reds and i'm beginning to max them out.

my card strategy is usually to go with a card +9% manager (to increase my chances of getting cards in the game) and then a cheerleader with +3 or +4 of whatever stat that day's pitcher needs topping up

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 12:37 (fifteen years ago)

has anyone ever evaded a rundown situation?

beat out a bunt?

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

I've beaten out a bunt once or twice I think...also ran a suicide on the computer once. have thrown the computer out a few times when it tries to stretch a double into a triple. have never ever thrown out the computer at home though on a hit to the outfield.

the newer updates seemed to have nerfed stealing bases - a regular strategy for me would be to single with rollins (my A speed guy), have him steal second, then hit him home. he always seems to get thrown out lately. whereas some of the computer guys I've seen are absolute roadrunners on the base paths.

dayo, Friday, 14 January 2011 12:42 (fifteen years ago)

I've beaten out a few bunts. I'm not sure I've ever hot a triple though! They are waaaay too rare

www.altavista.com (Z S), Friday, 14 January 2011 14:32 (fifteen years ago)

i've hit a few... they have to be wayyy down in the right-field corner with an A speed guy like ichiro

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

i ran a suicide against the computer in like my second game! don't think i've done it much since - it's far too easy to pop up the bunt for a double (or triple) play

still don't have any technique for bunting - i'm not sure if you're supposed to time the bunt button or just keep it held down or what

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

the other day I hit one to left-central, both the computers left and center fielder went for it and dove for it, the ball bounced between them and rolled to warning track

never seen that happen before, feel like if I had an A speed guy I could have had an inside the park homerun

dayo, Friday, 21 January 2011 03:20 (fifteen years ago)

a few times I've noticed that I pinch hit for a pitcher but the same pitcher is left in the next inning. I think I figured out the bug this afternoon. If you pinch hit for a pitcher AFTER the first pitch, it leaves the pitcher in for the next inning. Useful if you want to be a cheating bastard. However, the following inning, you'll be forced to relieve the pitcher.

23 24 (Z S), Friday, 21 January 2011 04:01 (fifteen years ago)

the other day i hit a cycle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jeter had a 1b + a 3b + a hr and I made a hit that should not have been a double but I needed to try to stretch it anyway and I somehow got there.
