I'd allow it; it's close enough to the date.

Are distinct DLC episodes like Undead Nightmare that were released the same year as the full game they're associated with their own game or part of the main game?

My inclination is to make them separate, but it might be more expedient to group them. With something like Angry Birds/Angry Birds Halloween it's a gimme but Red Dead offers a more complex problem.

Is Civ Rev on the iPhone as good (or better?) than the DS version?

Civ Rev on the iPhone is better than the DS version because the touchable part of the screen is bigger, & dragging units around is more natural-feeling than moving them with the stylus/directional pad.

you're the first person i've heard who liked that... it's the multiplayer XBLA one, right?

Nope - it's the 360/PS3 3D fighting / platformer (sort of an Uncharted 2 / God of War hybrid, or a much better version of the Lament of Innocence PS2 game).
You play Some Guy, Belmont (aka Robert Carlyle, Vampire Killer) accompanied by Patrick Stewart, veteran vampire killer, who wins an award for "Best voice actor to convey ludicrous dialogue with absolute conviction and gravitas". Hideo Kojima's company produced it.

It sounds ludicrous (well, Castlevania), but it works - the combat is crunchy and satisfying, character and creature design is good, the environments look fantastic (especially when you get into proper GOTHIC VAMPIRE CASTLE et al)

I think it went under the radar when it was released at the end of September, and the 3D Castlevania games don't have alot of pedigree.

Good thing this thread reminded me about Persona 3 for PSP, I actually went back and played it and... beat it in like a week. That's a LOT of PSP for a week. Soooooo good. I bought it for PS2 BOTH times and never got far because it was on PS2 and mine was giving up the ghost even then. Now that I've actually properly played through it...!!!! The first time I've enjoyed a jRPG in YEARS.

So was this a really great, awesomely deep year for game releases, or did I jsut have far more time? I feel like I'll have a hard time whittling it down to 10 or even 15 games (although I don't think anything here really kills the #1s of years past, if that makes sense).

personally the iOS renaissance had a lot to do with how much time I spent playing games this year; it's pretty hard not to play games constantly when they're right there on your phone.

that's beautifully circular; the reason the ios renaissance happened was cuz the platform was suddenly everywhere and developers saw cash to be made.
